a few of us had a thread going on overclocking the new zotac 9300-ITX in hardware>intel, but i cant find it any more, is it archived or just gone?
It looks like this weekends downtime resulted in a reversion....
any idea as to whether this is temporary backup or is this the new final?
looks like the same one they put up right after the big downtime.
just wondering, cause i dont want to have post my stuff for sale again
if i dont have to
some of the quite active threads (like GOOC2K9) got hit pretty hard
does a memory upgrade do this reversion stuff... what happened to those nice backups!
I've lost loads of stuff on my two case design threads!!!!!!!
  :shakes:
I lost my entire worklog.....
me too...
As someone who is pretty new, and was trying to contribute and get my post count up... this really sucks.
Damn, the last posts on my Goilath build is gone. Do I need to post everything again?
yep, you do... but maybe in another site for now?
i think i lost over 200 posts, some were just chitchat but some were really important stuff :(
well, just add to the slaughter-list, the GOOC thread went from 36 to 21 pages AFAIK
All my for sale threads are gone...:shakes:
All hall the mighty apple server :bows:
it seems the forum went back to april 10th, so we lost 1.5 weeks... thats why so many posts and threads are missing.
im affraid this is it... if they would have had a more recent backup im sure they would have used it... so whats gone is gone :(
what worries me is that there was no statement so is the server stable now or will all this be gone in the morning like a dream? :D
I put one up a couple days ago too. sale threads and PMs lost could lead to quite the headache.
I see a lot of threads popping up regarding the forums recent instability. All I have to say is that I for one am going to give Fugger the benefit of the doubt that all will be sorted out in time, I have faith. I can't imagine how difficult/frustrating it must be to get things up and running 100% again (well I kind of can, look at my system specs... :ROTF: ). I just thought I'd say what I was thinking, that I (along with everyone else on here) am not happy that the forum got rolled back 1.5 weeks, but it's not the end of the world. Good luck Fugger, figuring out whatever is going on, and I will be here when it's all fixed, guranteed!
XS for LIFE!
The problem is, if the data is restored now any posts that are being made now will be lost! If the data was going to be restored, the site should not have been put back up until it was ready!
As it is at the moment, I am reluctant to post anything in case it is lost again!
extreme systems use an SSD raid.......... maybe is not reliable......for now........:(

Wonder if there is gonna be "official comment"
>.< nuuuuuu I needed those post answers

how bout some humor to break the drama  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8_Kf...eature=related
I've heard nothing officially....I tried calling him today but it went straight to voicemail (which was full).
I talked to him briefly on the 18th as he was taking the server down to add a tape backup (I think....some sort of external backing up mechanism, I don't know servers or databases), but the length of the downtime and considering we're on an old restore point makes me think something went wrong again. I'd like to think the data is in tact somewhere, but who knows.
Pretty :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing annoying.
EDIT: and I saw some talk about a memory upgrade on TPU--yes, there was memory in bound, not sure if it got there on time or was going to be added--but we all know mem upgrades take 5 minutes (especially on systems where you can't change timings or voltages or w/e), it's pretty ridiculous to think that's what caused the downtime.
OK at least this is getting funny now and entertaining ;)
Bah! Now I have to retype my whole FS thread!
I lost my posts AND my avatar changed to my old one.
This is great to see how many people will put up with this bullsh*t. The XS hardcore will be separated from those that like a working forum.
Odd........
let's see... does this work...? :kicknuts:
Dang it the new smiley is missing :(
Well I suppose it will need put back in, eh? :D
Listen a minute:
I don't like it any more than you do but life "ain't always the way we want it"
You redo your posts, you change your avatar back to what it as and life goes on.
As to anyone that lost work logs or "important stuff" my sugestion is to post in the section they were in and ask if anyone there was subscribed and had email notification of the thread and that can get you back all that was posted by you.
I am assuming that anyone that had pics posted in a thread keeps the pics so it may well be able to rebuild your lost data without too much trouble.
Good Luck to all.
Fully agree, I don't visit XS that often anymore, but a lot of times I wanted to go on it was down.
May I remind the people here that it has been like this for ages and ages, no not the last year, but for years. I think XS has one of the most unreliable service records of any forum I have visited.
This is a complete failure, and I'm surprised people put up with this if you think of all the reasons why this shouldn't be happening. Admin 101.
If you did this at a company, you'd be fired.
Awww... no more for sale section for me again. Oh, well.
lol ;)
What Movieman said. I noticed a thread that was not present. I checked my email notification for it and all the data and pics are there. Good to know. Just need to incorporate them again. Uploading from computer not ready yet.

Heh, glad I just got here, well to post anyway.
And this is why hobbyists shouldn't run production systems. ;)
Does anyone know the reason for the down time? Something die in Serverland?
Is it time to pitch in for a "XS Stable Server Fund"? :)
I've lost all my casemod thread, pics and infos....
pretty annoying.....
lost about 30 posts and an "avatar-backup"
WTF..........
:banana::banana::banana::banana: happens, that's life... Yeah ok I now gotta find all my stuff again but hey ho, I'm sure it can't be that hard to track down a user and PM him again :)Quote:

I lost over 3000 posts just from the last two weeks of posting. Any possibility I could get my post count fixed? Should be 6000 posts. Thanks.
Yeah some RAID666
Yupp, sheit happens. I was too busy to post stuff and visit XS lately, but some people must have gotten really hurt.
Wish good luck to some guys for a succesfull deja vu :D
Amateurs at work.......
But as someone stated earlier, this happens a lot to XS. It has always had this broken service and reliability issues.
I've gotta ask this question here..
Do you people think he's happy that it happened? I'm quite sure he's delighted you folk are reveling in your own grief! Seriously, think for a minute before you speak. He's just as mad, if not more so then you people who are complaining. You've spoken your grievances, now move on and be slightly more constructive in your following posts. Unless he is a masochist, I highly doubt that he likes his forum being down, much less the fact that a whole week of information is potentially lost.
Get over it and move on. People on the internet always thinking they're entitled to something. Yeesh.
hahahah, great counter!
i totally agree...
i know charles only means good by taking care of the server himself, but its just not something you can do easily... and its really time to get xs hosted properly imo, id even pay 25$ or whatever for it if thats the problem...
but then again i dont get how other forums run fine without any donations..
coop, where did you find that picture of the xs server? :D
now that i see it... i really dont get how it could have failed, its clearly memtest stable! :D

easy, calm down :)
screwing up is punishment enough right?
knowing you caused a huge mess and have a bad conscience for it is pretty bad... but i dont think its a reason to tell people to stop complaining.
xs is free, but so are 99% of the forums out there... and they dont go down all the time. as long as the complaints result in xs coming out stronger from this crysis than it was before, i dont think complaints are a bad thing.
if nobody complains, some people might think its actually ok to have xs down every now and then and lose posts... and i dont mean in an evil MWUAHAHAH way, but simply by misunderstanding what the communities priorities are.
everybody with lost data, go and check google cache ASAP!
you might be able to find your thread/post over there!
i checked and unfortunately there was only a backup of april 16th... but thats still 6 days more recent than the xs backup, so go check it asap before google updates its cache of xs!
Complaints are alright, but beating a dead horse isn't. I've seen several of the same people today posting over and over again that they're upset. Some even copying their post from another thread and putting it on another. (You know who you are.) Discussion is fine as well, but when you start sounding like a broken record no longer are you complaining, but just trying to instigate.
There were precautions that Charles could have taken, but he didn't. I'm sure this time around he tried to take several precautions, but when two drives out of a raid 5 fail it bites the big one. Who's to say he wasn't in the middle of trying to backup the raid 5 in anticipation of an impending failure, but it went out before he grabbed a good backup.
It's a -free- forum in which some decided to pay for whatever reason that's their own. And for whatever reason, Fugger is doing this mostly out of his own time.
And I'm not directing this at you Saaya. Just people in general.
At least show some sort of appreciation folks. XS has been a major outlet of free information that many have taken from. The people who actually lost something (Guides and whatnot) have all the right to really pitch a fit. Those who didn't lose anything.. Chill.
Rarely do I stick my neck out on any internet forum but the audacity of some people really skeeves me sometimes. About 98% of you people complaining will continue to return at some point in this forum's lifetime. Maybe 2% of you will go to one of your other sources.
Either way, the option is there. You have the right to look elsewhere for information. If you don't like it here, exercise that right.
Reznik Akime, i dont think so... i think your seeing mal intent where there isnt any...
people are just upset, some more, some less... its only natural that people poke at each other or complain or rant in such a situation... what do you expect?
i think its important to know that tempers are a big high right now and most of the things people say now, they dont really mean in a bad way, they are just upset... thats it
Hey MovieMan what is the best HD option anyways-which raid. I got 2 drives 1 for the OS and one for storage
Touche but we all have financial limitations..
Now of course if your offerring to send along a top Raid6 card I'm sure Charles would say thanks..:D
Depends on what the data means to you.
Everything I want to keep I burn and make 2 copies.
The rest, if it goes, I'll rebuild.
raid6 is raid5 and then mirrored completely, like a raid1 of a raid5 array, right?
now that should do it! :D
but really, how come 2 drives fail at the same time?
maybe mixing ssds with hdds is causing some problems on the raid controller rather than the hdds themselves?
or maybe the server itself is unstable and corupts the raid array...
or maybe the ssd firmware isnt optimized for raid5 and causing some weird issue, i really wouldnt be surprised about that...
i wouldnt want to be responsible for this going wrong, id just ask some raid or datacenter expert to set it all up and then have them maintain it too... maybe johan de gelas can help, he sure knows his way around with servers and he seems a nice enough guy he might do this for free or a minimum charge if we ask very very nicely :D
its ok guys.... i contacted "your man in india"
they are busy re typing and reposting everything from the past 2 weeks
seriously tho... what do we do?
should we hold off posting incase a more recent backup is restored or is this as good as it gets and we should move on?
Saaya, "coop, where did you find that picture of the xs server?
now that i see it... i really dont get how it could have failed, its clearly memtest stable! "
a picdump. More importantly though, what you said about Google. I looked at the "Scantily Clad" thread through my email notifier. I am sure the whole thing is there. I looked at several recent pages and back to p-12. Is there a way to import that or somehow save that link and get it back? I'm don't know anything about internet/server type details. Out of all the people here, I would think that if it could surely someone would now how. Is it only available for a certain amount of time? There was no "new" data from the other threads, but the whole Scanty thread is there. It was the most popular with about 152,000 visits. About a thousand in the last week.
Save the girls, the mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I be upset
Thread missing :(:(:(
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:, :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:, :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:!
Charles got it up, be happy! Far worse could have happened!
Damn bananas!
coop, dont think its possible to import something from google cache... well in theory yes, but... thats way too much work.
just save the pics or urls and post it again... thats the only real option, posting everyhting again...sigh...
i dont really feel like commenting on older threads though, only posting in ne threads for now :D
Alright.
the last one i think... march was when they tried to move from hdd to ssd, and it went very very wrong apparently.
then moved back to hdd but things were not right somehow, and now, a few weeks later the hdds failed somehow...
Yeah, I know the one in March is when Fugger lost 2 HDD's doing the switch to SSD's. MM's post makes it sound like he lost another 2 this time, so I wanted to verify.
I was wondering where some of my recent posts went ... oh well, not to worry, I'm sure we have all lost data before and its not as if we are paying for this.
The site still has my support for best PC tech site on the net.
You have to see the bright side in this whole "incident": we got rid of the American XS logo :p:
Yeah, and you would think with a forum as popular as this one that they would have a good raid controller with raid6 support. In the next month my server will be raid6 (currently raid5). You guys need help with hosting/off-site backup? I would be happy to help/provide it for free if you guys don't have or can't afford an off-site backup for your files/dbs so you never have more than a 24 hour rollback again.
Thanks for the hard work getting the forums back up ADMINs.
RMA the SSDs N get some 15000rpm SCSI Ultra320 raid arrays with lots more drives to fail but less chance of losing the forums for days.
I haven't dealt with Mac based server hardware but i'm sure it can be done this is Xtreme after all.
I know this isn't my thread.....but I lost a bunch of stuff too...
I thought I was censored because I was talking too much.....
But instead was it really lost?????
Cause I lost my subscriptions too and some of my signature..... and no one notified me that it was too big or anything????
I haven't been on in over a week since it went down for that month...
did it go down again?????
Thanks
David:p::p::p::p::p::p:
two things:
1) it went down and we reverted to april 10th backup
2) the first major outtage was only 2 weeks, not a month.
Actually, it is fairly common to merge a database with another one and remove duplicates. Being an Apple server, I assume it is running MySQL, which is completely capable of merging a backup, with the current database, keeping all new posts intact, while adding any that are missing.
What Charles needs is someone off-site doing DB backups. vBulletin has the capability of having Admins log into the admin console and save the entire DB to a local Access DB. If two or three admins made it a regular practice to make a backup every other day, the site would never be without a recent backup.
For the record, this post is not a complaint, I am just offering information.
