Sure, since you have inlet linked to inlet and outlet linked to outlet.

The idea is this: if you own an MCR rad already, and you have room for a two-core, why toss your MCR? Just add a stackable. It's better bang for the buck. Also great for push-pull..

Rads are sold individually. Only inclusion (or not) of our custom short fittings is in question right now. please vote :-)

fitting are cheap most of us have extras, and if you dont they are, what 5 bucks. big deal. i like how this rad opens up new possibility that weren't there before. alot easier to run two rads together. you can stack it, or you could use it like a normal mcr320. or you could use them as fill ports. if you dont include barbs could you include plugs?

Ugly plastic plugs already come in (free) with the rads (but no orings).

I checked, it is possible to use these (ugly) plugs with an oring to seal the rad.

If I use my (beautiful) chrome plugs, these are expensive..($5 a pair) and I am concerned they would jack-up price unnecessarily.

This is why I would not want your fittings, I would rather have the option of using 38mm fans. I may be misunderstanding what you stated, but based on that alone I would not want fittings included. Also, as stated before, most of us have extra fittings so why pay for them if you are not going to use, especially if it reduces cost by $10.

38mm fans and some BP D-plugs! :up: Fittings included though is nice.

Gabe, we have nothing against your fittings; just have tons of them in drawers and don't want to add to the mess!

i just check and from the specs 25mm is the shortest distance.
is there anyway you could confirm that or otherwise.
to me, this would be a great solution for a short distance fitting solution.
or maybe it fit with 38mm fans.
if i understand correctly the rads have G1/4 fittings on both sides

daaaamn... I just bought myself an MCR320 the other day... shoulda waited a bit longer. I guess now I'll just have to upgrade even more:clap:.

I say make the fittings optional. That way, those who need them can get them, and those who don't need them (already have some/have thicker fans/whatever) don't have to bother with them :up:

Vote against. I like the idea, but if I'm going to the trouble of stacking two rads, a 38mm fans are going in-between, that setup doesn't look like it would be friendly to the larger spacing. But I realize there are a few logistical issues to having separate SKU's.

AWESOME!!!! I was gonna get another single 120, but i see no reason to now, will just get another 320 :P it'll fit perfectly in my setup :P

I think that the poll is somewhat unclear on what you are actually voting on, and should not be taken as a decisive tool.

Are you referring to the fittings between the radiators or the pair on the stackable rad?

People aren't interpreting the poll correctly. This is for the fittings that connect the radiators together. I voted to include the fittings BETWEEN THE RADIATORS as they're a bit harder to come across.

I think he's saying that 25mm is not what SLI fittings come in...the fittings that are included will do 25mm+ :)

(i.e., it's my interpretation that that is a piece of tubing going over the fittings between the two rads, there's nothing preventing anyone from going deeper than 25mm :))

As I'm writing this, a (standard) MCR320 is installed on the test-rig, going through the runs.
From what I'm seeing so far, this radiator might be ideal for stacking. :)

I still don't think people get whats going on.
What he is saying is, I can jack the price up and include 4 stubby fittings so you can connect the radiators, or I can keep the price low and you can get whatever you want.
I would rather not use stubbys and get D-Plugs or any sli connector so thats why I am voting no.

Fittings... i would like to have it come with the fittings between the rads and 2 plugs. For the 2 last fittings i would rather use fatboys or my own modified EK fittings.

Edit: Btw, how much of an increase in performance would this be? ish... Is the stacked mcr220 as good as 1 mcr320? (lets say with yates)

I see what you are saying Vapor and that does make sense, still, I use compression fittings and I would probably just use sli/cf fittings in between them for a little extra strength. Now I have not seen anyone mention this, but I wonder how a few of these stacked together would do, i.e. 5 of them stacked. Would the restriction be too much and a complete waste? How much of a return do you get when you add one, then two, then three, etc..

By the way, nice job Gabe for getting this too the market. Nice to see Swiftech still being innovative with rads as they are with their blocks.

Utnorris: I bet stacking any more than two would'nt bring any advantage (unless we're talking about using 5000rpm fans or something like that).

Yeah, air saturation levels on a single MCR are already in the 50-70% range for the fans we use (slow to ~3000RPM). Stacking two will theoretically get air saturation levels of 75-91% based on those numbers, which is pretty significant considering how little of a downside there is (no added noise like a higher speed fan, no huge space requirements like adding another rad in parallel, etc). What it ends up being....eh, we'll see :)

In theory, going to three won't be hugely significant, 87-97% (and again, probably less in practice) air saturation levels. Going to 4-5 will be even worse in terms of gains just because there's less to be had below the 100% ceiling.

And considering higher RPM fans (that would benefit from the more radiators), already are associated with low water to air deltas, the benefit from going from 75% to 87% will be pretty low, unless there's a massive heatload.

I wouldn't worry too much about suffocating fans with 2 or even 3 MCR series. I have an MCR320/MCR220 stack right now and the difference between the open fan and the two buried fans doesn't seem too bad, even at low RPM :shrug:

Using a 38mm fan will simply require a slightly longer piece of tubing in between the stubby barbs.

Nice gabe! Ive been holding out on buying a 2nd MCR320 because of the thread where these rads were originally brought up. Good to see manufacturers taking input from the little guys :up:

Your fittings are fine. Thing is, I use push-in, so I have no use for them... I don't know the rest of you, but I have a box full of unused fittings...

Yeah same here.. but I'm thinking of jamming in a G3/8 to 1/4" adaptor and hope for the best :)

Just so people know, this is good even as a single radiator.
The reverse threaded holes can also be used as fillports when placed on the top.
Probably the best reservoir you can buy.

The schematic below will put the debate to a rest.

To anyone in the "No" crowd, I am asking to please measure your SLI fittings (or whatever 1/4" BSPP fitting you plan on using), from base of the flange, to tip of the fitting, and report here.. if it exceeds 8.3mm (0.32"), it won't work, at least with a 25mm fan.

If using a 38mm, then MAX fitting length from flange base to fitting tip should not exceed 14.8mm (0.58")

And if thats too short, theres always the original Dplug.

The DPlug is ultimately the best choice for this setup.

Sorry but this 15mm dimension seems wrong.

Per information here: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/bishg14sidse.html "The length from end of thread to end of thread is 30 millimeters. " BP threads are typically 5mm. So it means that flange to flange, you'd have 20mm (30 - 2x5).. and this is too long by 1.4mm for use with 25mm fans.

Now by the look of the dual o-ring design, I roughly estimate that these can extend about 5mm , and this is too short for a 38mm fan.

BUT I also have more concerns:

1/ These appear much more restrictive than our 1/2" barbs which may affect radiator performance.

2/ More importantly, our welded threaded nuts are not always perfectly perpendicular to the plenum face. Using these fittings, we would have a solid connection between the radiators and if there was the slightest misalignment, it could prevent installation of the fans.. and this is the reason why we chose a "soft" alignment (using tubing), to compensate for this potential problem.

3/ A final concern is the fact that our radiators feature an o-ring groove, and these fittings are designed for a flat face since they have a captured o-ring. If the OD of the fitting body is larger than 17.8mm (the OD of our o-ring groove), then the fitting might not be able to seal.

Based on all of the above and looking at the Poll showing a majority of yesses, it looks like we'll have to include our fittings.

First off I can say that the standard BP D-plug is indeed 30mm (20mm + 5mm threads x2). I don't have a mini with me, but I assume that it is smaller than the standard, and consequently I would assume the 15mm number thrown about is correct. As for your other comments.

1. Somebody just provide the ID of the mini and we can see.

2. This could be a concern, but only the producer truly knows how large of an issue this is.

3. I know that folks use a 2nd o-ring with BP fittings on a GTZ so I would expect something similar here.

All things considered, what kind of cost difference would we be talking about between the radiator ala carte and the rad with 4 fittings? Also about what would the 4 fittings cost by themselves? If the difference in price between ordering the fittings seperately vs the built in cost of having them included is fairly small then there is really no reason to include them since roughly half of us wouldn't be wanting to use them. If the cost difference is substantial (returns to scale and whatnot) then they should be included. Just my opinion. Hasta.

I stand corrected. the item I saw at Sidewinder isn't the mini but the regular.

So the mini might indeed work, but I still have that alignment concern. how much of a problem is it? ppl haven't been complaining because it wasn't a problem at all in a standard setup, but it certainly is in a stackable setup. I have asked our QC team to increase their vigilance in this respect for future production, but this doesn't address the thousands and thousands of rads on the market out there.

price of our fittings (set of 4) is $10 . That's the amount built-in the price of the stackables.

current prices are :

320: $77.95 incl fittings
220: $63.95 incl fittings
120: $47.95 incl fittings

If the price of the fittings by themselves is $10 and the additional price for including them with the rad is $10 then it seems to be a non issue from a consumers point of view. Why include something many folks don't want if there is no discount for the bundle as it were.

Reason why I did the Poll. So far 56% want the fittings included, and 44% don't.

You'd want to include the fittings because if in the enthusiast community you already see a majority wanting them, it will be even worse among casual users.. and that's why I am concerned that we'll have people complaining that we SHOULD include the fittings left and right!

We are only aiming at pleasing the majority of the users out there.

Personally, I really do not have a preference other than the mechanical fit concerns.

That would just be the fittings not included route. Producers don't micromanage like retailers, that's what retailers are for.

I can only speak for myself, but I am accustomed to ordering products where fittings are not included. I knos swiftech has much more of a "mainstream" market (microcenter and whatnot) than your average WC supplier so at the end of the day it is a business decision. All things considered, I think if you framed your poll differently such that it reflected that there were no cost savings to the bundle your poll results would be different. Basically if you ask the enthusiast community, would you rather be able to buy 4 fittings for $10 with the rad or be forced to buy 4 fittings for an extra $10 on top of the rad, you would get a lot more votes for not including the barbs.

glad to see that you care about client opinion and satisfation. voted no, but i see it will not be a bad option to include the fittings on.

The regular D-Plug is 20mm, the large one is 25mm(I think), and the Mini-D plug is 15mm. The mini-D is only sold at performance. Honestly they have a very large ID, but the part that concerns me is exactly what you wrote, the

gab, I think you have your answer. You really don't want the bad publicity of folks complaining you should have included the fittings. An out might be to include the fittings as an optional accessory? Kind of like an optional backplate for HSF. But then you'd get peope griping about paying extra for what they feel should have already been included. Kinda damned if you do damned if you don't. Include them I guess, you'll probably get less headaches overall.

mechanical fit: 100% right .. I think you'll be able to install the fittings, but then you won't be able to fasten the fans as the fan mounting holes will be misaligned.

In contrast, with a soft mount, you install your fans on one rad, you put your two bits of on, you press the second rad on, put your snap rivets in, and finish off by fastening the tubing with hose clamps. Even if the fittings are not 100% aligned, the tubing is thick enough to compensate.

BTW I stood corrected after the above post regarding the D-plug length.

Plus more cooling than a TC or Feser for less/equal cost :up:, have always said MCR is best bang for buck, and now it's an even greater value.

Thank you for at least listening Gabe and I think you are right that it would be better to have them than not if there is an issue of mis-alignment. While I personally would probably not use them I am sure there will be a lot that will. I look forward to seeing some results. I am also waiting to see if anyone uses a bunch together as a big rad sandwich since it has been talked about before. My only concern would be that the fluid would be running in parallel vs. series and therefore not sure how well the fluid will get circulated through all the rads.

if fully bled, shouldn't be a problem, although I have a feeling bleeding is going to take a turn from a PITA to a nightmare. Only one feature I wish would be added to the newer MCR is a bleed screw.

Naekuh, this is just another tool in the arsenal of tools that you guys use. As I said earlier, it will save a buck to existing MCR users who want to boost their performance and take their system to the next level.

Dual-row radiators also run in parallel Utnorris. The only difference is the additional pressure drop caused by the presence of the fittings.

Sorry for not reading the whole thread, but is the poll on whether you to include normal fitting or the fittings to connect to rads? I think you should clarify that.

Also, please do include O-Rings that fill up the recess in case someone uses fittings that have a recess themselves (i.e. almost all fittings except Swiftech fittings). When I got my MCR320 I had trouble getting it to seal with the standard compression fittings for 8mm ID tubing that is common here in Germany. Luckily for me I had some extra O-Rings for my Thermochill G3/8 fittings around with which I was able to use the MCR320.

Other than that I think this is a GREAT idea. I expect performance to be close to a Feser/Thermochill (well I trust Swiftech not to release something that won't improve performance) and thickness is similar too, so it's not a problem. Flow should also increase since it's in parallel.

dude, have you got any results of pressure drop/flow rate - ie if i was to stack say three or four (or even just two) of these, and use it with a normal pump (ie 12v, not iwaki), then would people still be getting reasonable flow in a loop with cooled 4870x2, and i920 overclocked? would it scale well if we went for more rads, and added in a second 4870x2?

If you have space, you are better off (always) installing a second rad by itself (in series), but if you do not have enough room, then this will give a very serious boost to your thermal performance at relatively low cost.

The problem we all face here is to strike a balance between space constraints, thermal performance, comfort of operations AND cost of solution. If space is the defining factor, then it forces compromises on the other 3. The stackable solution aims at minimizing the impact on cost of solution.
