Hey XS!

Ever since my Genome project (which unfortunately never got completed) ive had a worklog bug eating away at my soul. Having moved to the UK for studies (MSc in Electronic Publishing) i had a quick WC build with parts that were taken from my genome project and put in a LiLi 2010B (nothing worth showing pics) with a mediocre dual loop setup inside to get me through the first wave of study sessions and web programming.

Now after Christmas, New Years, Birthdays + Namedays, i have saved up some cash (which is all gone now) to start a build!

so without further adieu i present to you the hardware.

My Goal is to get a clean looking build, with the shortest loop possible, low noise and great cooling.

Pictures should start floating in around monday when the majority of my parts arrive... wish i knew how long my case will take to get here :(

Ill let you in on a secret though... the color scheme is going to be a little... "Fresh" :P

So finally had some time to take some pictures of what has arrived so far... I just want to take the time to apologize for some missing pictures. My Ram, Motherboard and CPU have not been taken out of their boxes, because i dont want them getting dusty, and i cant repackage ANYTHING to save my life. So im going to wait for the other hardware to arrive so i can build/take pictures for you guys :D

Well, If i go dual loop, i cant seem to get a tubing layout in my head that would be as short as possible... I need parts, blocks and etc to see if im going dual loop or single.

More over, i dont see a point in buying a third pump and spending 60-90 pounds extra for it, and not spending it elswhere (sleeving, cable clips, sound dampening etc)

I finally made the order for the case... cash runs in so slow lately :S

Check Jab-tech for Bei Fei's blocks, shipping might be cheaper. You may have to e-mail them to find out. Also, drop Bei a PM, maybe he can help you out if he still has some. Looking forward to the build.

ive been in contact with bei, and hes got one waiting for me. now all i need to do is do some freelance work to get the extra cash needed. Bei's blocks are the last thing i need to have all the parts for the build. Well that and sleeving material. But Nils from MDPC told me they might be getting white sleeving kits online soon, so im pretty much waiting.

Now, all im waiting for is my actual case, bei feis blocks (in UK customs apparently... hope i wont have to pay extra cash), and to make a decision on a fan controller. (i think im going to go for the Lamptron Hummer one... i like it. its simple, got lots of power, and with a few minor mods it will suit my case perfectly.)

I hope i get this build done soon... i got lots of course work's coming my way... :(

could you please take a shot of the xspc tubing with a white background? i was thinking of getting it for my next build and i must find out what shade of orange is that. thanks!

yeah ill try and take a pic of it... although my white background is a couch.... hope that will do. and in my opinion its sort of sanguine orange/red... more towards orange though.

im liking the dark red background... its a PITA to set it up... its my couch throw. lol... and yeah the tubing is soooo nice. no pictures do it justice... or maybe i suck as a photographer :D

i got the white sleeving from member here @XS DualBrain (AKA Nils, from MDPC-X heres the link to the sleeving on his website... http://www.mdpc-x.com/MDPC-Sleeve/Schneemannpackung.htm) The sleeving is really high quality, but white sleeving has a larger pain than black. you have to tape up every cable with white duct tape before you sleeve it to get it perfectly white...

hehe... not much more progress lately... sanding down radiators and other parts is very time consuming, and i cant get down to any more sleeving, because the psu i will put into the build is the psu im using on my current machine. i do however have a little question regarding loop layout...

I know lots of people recommend the shortest loop, and others recommend a rad before the cpu... but im a bit stuck...

I decided im going single loop (so now have to choose a pump either 655 with ek rev2 top or 355 with xspc top) the loop isnt very restrictive my blocks are: GTZ, 2 feser rads (quad and a triple), EKgtx280 FC block, Swiftech micro res v2, and bei fei's NB/SB and single mosfet block.

but seeing as the case is, i find the shortest tubing to be 320 rad (front) ->gpu->cpu->NB/SB->Mosfet->quad rad (top)->res->pump... plus it gives a nice tubing layout, lots of parallel tubes in a vertical layout.

Getting the quad in before the cpu will add atleast an extra foot (or two) to my tubing. Will doing that improve my temperatures a great deal? or 1-2 degrees? and i dont like the fact of having a tube go from the gpu all the way to the top in through the whole case (come to think of it, just that tube will be 2 feet the MM 24 is a monster).... i find it quite useless and ugly...

Also ive been pondering as to which way to make the rear case fans blow... i was thinking into the case that way i would have 5 fans blowing in (rear fans and triple radiator) in 4 fans blowing out (quad on top)... This would also help the quad a little bit more fresh air from the rear of the case...

any ideas? thoughts? ....complaints?! (FU if u have any :P)

I think you do what works for you with respect to your loop layout. I see no reason why the layout you describe above won't work and work well.

WTH... i was looking at my emails, and i realized that my order for Bei Feis blocks were extremely delayed... so after a bit of searching, and a bit of parcel tracking, i find out they have been in customs since the 14th of feb awaiting a customs tax payment! so i called them up to see why i had not been contacted to pay. this is what the conversation went like:

Me: I just realized there is a a parcel in my name, awaiting payment.

took me well over an hour and 3 phone calls to the same guy to pay for something... all i can say is WOW! then they wonder why people turn to alcohol! Cant they jsut make life easier adn elt me pay from the first phone call? do they have to make me do a billion things before i sort out what i want?!

PS: sorry for the wall of text, just ridiculous how slow the public sector can be...

Now, i am a bit scared, cause now the hardest part (in my books) is coming up. Removing the stock solutions... Any advice? Ive heard something about putting it in a zip-lock bag in the freezer, heating it up (heat gun or just a hair dryer?)... Any advice?

Looking pretty nice, interested to see how it goes. keep the updates coming.

as for removing the stock sinks, I would try the hairdryer first. get it nice and heated and then do your best to do a light twisting motion; avoiding directly pulling it off. I have only really seen major issues when the TIM is really old and hardened. that is when you really start to see components getting ripped off. I think you iwll be fine with some heat.

hehe... unfortunately no... things have been going rather slowly. Im all stressed out about university (cant even eat properly anymore, or sleep for that matter)... Im still waiting on my case to get shipped... mountain mods said they finished manufacturing it on Monday (i figured they would have several sheets of metal cut out to provide, instead of every order being produced separately) and they said they hoped to have it powder coated and shipped out by friday (yes 2 days ago) but i never got an email confirming it got shipped... so im guessing monday it will ship 6-10 days delivery (and then some time in customs). I also cant get down to the nitty gritty cable sleeving as the psu i will use is in my current machine which i need for uni atm... Seems this project may be dead for a little while longer! :(

so ive been making some progress... im sleeving my psu now.... eugh :( pics coming soon though...

So.... im back... after... nearly 2 years! whoa... 2 years!

im probably old news by now!!!

been seeing some of the builds happening here, and i am in shock at the level of improvement everyone has!

in the past 2 years. Ive seen AMAZING improvements in photography, as well as build quality.

I will try to keep up to those standards aswell :D

Should be FINALLY done with this build by this weekend...
(I was drafted in the military so i had NO time for myself, let alone a build... then my gtx280 got fried, so i was saving up money for a gtx480, but by the time i saved up the 580 launched, and i finally opted for a HD6970!)

What is left to be done...

-Get the new GPU kitted with a waterblock
-A few peices of acrylic to be cut into shape
-Painting of a fan controller/light controller
-Create Fillport/Drain port
-Mount pump
-Mount reservoir
-Add Filters
-Cable Management
-Fit CCFLS
-Tubing layout
-Add Feet/Casters

Looking fantastic.

Have a quick question. Are you able to go 2 480's in the build if you forgo the 5.25" bays? The angles look deceiving. Clearing thinking says no.

Looking at this too, probably the XL-ATX board for the future & possibly asking to have the psu rotated horizontally to make it fit.

I think I need a pedestal :(.

in the mean while, ive been painting my peripherals (keyboard, mouse, my fan switch bracket, etc) :up:

trying to find a way to paint my monitor frame as well... although seeing how many screws my keyboard had, my monitor seems scary!

i also saw something kier was doing and he created a cover plate for his motherboard, and i thought that was amazing, but finding orange plexi around here is hard... ill see what i will do...

my case feet arrived, got them mounted, as well as my d5 top/mount. drilled out a drain port while i was doing things.

Wow, nearly 2 years ago, I've subscribed to this thread and haven't been on here since that day! Still, like i said (2 years ago...Lol), this is looking to be a great build! Keep'em coming!

Just a quick pointer though - you have both sets of front rad fans blowing at the rad at the moment ;). Tiredness does crazy things to you, I've done that many times myself :lol:.

Nice flowing loop, not gone made on tubing :up:. I can see it being a real pig to prime and bleed though, I'd say tip it on its front but that would leave the pump at a high loop. Patience will be the key I reckon (but you certainly aren't lacking in that :))!

Wow, yeah, hehe.... just realized! DOH! i was going to remove them anyways to replace the fan screws with some hex bolts but thanks!!!!!! probably wold of put them back on the same exact way!

The fans are Xigmatek F-1253's and the tubing is Masterkleer Orange.

ok, so update.... the machine is leak testing atm, but i do have a question.

I set up a flowmeter (koolance inline one, with the frequency booster) and an inline temp probe.

Im using a d5 koolance top at #5 setting, and my loop is this;

Res -> Pump -> 360 Rad -> Gpu (EK fc) -> Bei Fei Mosfet -> EK Ram -> 480 Rad -> Cpu -> Bei Fei NB/SB -> Res

My flow is 1.1GPM.

and ambient is 24 degrees and my water temp with no load is 22.9

Does my flow and temp sound ok? i thought with no load that i would have atleast a deltaT of 3-5 degrees... or am i mistaken?
And one last thing, i think my psu is acting up...

i turned it on for the leak test, pump fired up, all was good, i turned it off so i could refill the res, and when i tried to fire it up it threw down a fuse (in my fuse box), i went turned it on, and attempted to fire it up again. it worked, no problem. i again shut it off to refill, and then turned it back on, and the fuse dropped again. Everytime i turn off my psu, and try to turn it on again, it drops a fuse. I tried it at another part of my house, thinking it could be a faulty wall wiring. and it did the same thing.... In the mean time, i left it on overnight for leak testing, and 9 hours later it was still on. The psu is a thermaltake 1200 Toughpower, and the only thing ive done to it, is changed the fan.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. and i cant wait for it to be all tidied up, everything in place to show you guys :D

Holy moly! what size tubing is that? Maybe it's just the pictures, but it looks a lot larger than 1/2, 3/4.

Its XSPC/Masterkleer 1/2-3/4 Orange.

It actually is a little bit wider than 3/4 (i havent measured, but my 3/4 spring clamps barely slide over it... :S)

Its FINALLY complete (build wise).... unfortunately though, its been acting up, and it seems my motherboard is dying :( it wont post unless i clear the cmos ... still trying to figure out what is wrong... only thing left for me to do is to change the cpu, and the cmos battery. else its a dead/dying board... :(

So... turns out my motherboard had a dead PCIe, and 2 dead ram slots.... i dont understand why, or how this happened, but thats what my testing came up with.

All the parts worked on another motherboard, and the stuff that was originally on the (secondary) motherbaord didnt work on the p6t.

so... i went ahead and purchased some new parts.

New Hardware is:
EVGA SLI3 x58 motherboard
12GB of 2000mhz Dominators
SSD (Intel x-25M 120GB)

New Cooling Parts:
EK SLI3 White acetal block
Koolance 80mm Reservoir (i didnt like the way the micro res looked)
Second D5 + Dual D5 EK White Acetal Top

Im still waiting on the watercooling parts, but everything is open on my table, and waiting for installing.

Updates should be coming hopefully this weekend.

I had already drilled holes for my pump mounts, before i got my soundcard, and luckily enough... i had enough space to mount the cards. it was close though.... REAL CLOSE....

ALL in all, im happy... got it to clock to 4.2 ghz, stable... with "decent" temps.... but i was somehwat dissapointed.... so....








i ordered more parts.... Got me a nice 120gb Intel sata III SSD, and some new cooling parts!

So before i am even done with it, i was unhappy and decided to make it a dual loop...

Im splitting the loops like this.

Loop1: D5->cpu->quad rad->res
Loop 2: D5->D5-> Triple ->GPU->Mobo->Ram->Res

so, another update incoming... hopefully soon!

Are you going to do anything with that blank front bay? It's just sitting there...empty...lonely...naked in this present world...

ive been hitting and missing with the front bay. i was originally gonna put miltitary switches for cathodes, but i replaced cathodes for led strips.

then i thought, aquaaero, 2ndary lcd display (Matrix, CrystalFontz, etc) but it was cmpletely out of my budget... plus to mention, half the thigns foferend would go to waste.

Then i thought card reader/usb ports etc, but it isnt deep enough to fit those (because of the radiator)

so now im waiting for a final shot at something, which should arrive with my upgrade package...

Speaking of upgrades, when i took out my EK block and reassembled my gpu/ram/mobo loop, my flow with 2 D5's at setting 5, went from 2700-2900 rpms (fan controller) to 5200-5400 rpms.

i cant remember where, but i read that 4000rpms = 1GPM.

Looking like a very nice build. What kind of tubing did you use again? It looks really great.

Also the drain plug + fill port makes it _so easy_ to refresh the distilled in your loop with almost no effort.

This looks amazing. I just looked through and read the entire log! As a said for your other build log. You give us all inspiration ;)

The tubing in my earlier versions was XSPC 1/2"ID - 3/4"OD Orange.
When i took it apart and added the new mobo, etc, i used Masterkleer 1/2"ID - 3/4" OD
The drain port was removed in my second revision.
