so am3 platform still use RD790+SB750, GIGABYTE announced her new AM3 M/B, GA MA790FX UD5P, AM3 means, DDR3 & 45nm :D

Only 2 things I see that I don't like right away - the board is all blue/baby blue/white (I'd prefer black board with darker colored slots, or at least no baby blue colors) and the IDE connector sticks out like a sore thumb being a different color than everything else! :p:
Oh yeah, and cost will probably be up there too I'd imagine.

SB-NB-VRM heatpiped all-in-one heatsink... Ick. Makes no sense especially since neither SB750 nor 790FX produce heat enought to require heatpiped cooling.

Dunno why but the bright blue CPU HSF bracket looks kinda strange. And it seems GB is starting to come to it's senses with the color choices.
The most glaring issue I see is the placement of the 8-pin CPU plug- looks kinda awkward to unplug the cable from..
other than that, that looks VERY nice :D

Dammit.. again they screw up the mounting of the cooler.. there's no way to orientate the cooler like you want to..

But why they still keep floppy connector and IDE. Also PCI should be ditched.
Yeah some people do still have IDE drives and pci sound cards.
Not that many sound cards are made in pci-e format from what I've seen.
Legacy components for the people that don't have the top of the line stuff and nothing but is still important.
I think clonez is right about the phase setup 10+4+2.
Took a look at the m3a78-T deluxe and that board had 4+1 for for core/Northbridge andthen had 2 over by the memory. Which is how this one is setup.
PCI is still useful especially when a board is not equipped with a post code reader, A must have for any ocer IMO. The floppy could go ( bootable USB replaces it ) but its not really a hindrance where it is. With 2 usable PCI e slots even in crossfire why complain about PCI anyway, I like the fact that there are actual usable slots when using dual slot cards, most companies over look this.

i could explain the external-sata design issue,
why GIGABYTE use the extendted sata not use a "e-sata"
first, the sata goes from SB, if you pull it to i/o panel, it goes a long way
and the singal from internal pcb is not that clear, also will reduce singnal quality, and affect other componets ( from lab test max length from e-sata only 1.5M). and even you use a "e-sata" you need to prepare a "external-power cable" for your device, i can't see anything good here.( maybe it has good looking?)
and like GBT's way, sata goes from SB, then use a extension, the signal
is directly from SB and goes to extension sata, im sure the extension cable quality is very good,you can use 2M length sata connect to the extension still work well, also you have a power on the extension,:)
No big deal anyway, if it performs and is priced correctly (which is often the case here for Gigabyte mobos) i would consider buying it ;)Quote:

Power section is one of the strong points of GBT top end boards. My DQ6 uses same design and there is no way of any voltage fluctuation up to 1.88V!
Also if BIOS will be similar to what we have on DQ6 then max CPU vCore will be 2.05V :D

I believe he's refering to the i7 discussion on how having a ton of phases is essentially useless and not needed.
In truth it's not if your not overclocking and the power draw isn't immense.

Spark I have it on my asus, its inset a little has an even ridge that the button sits in, very hard to hit it by accident. Of course with the asus you hardly ever need it becasue if you get a failed OC it just loads defaults anyway on the next boot.....Quote:

ranosb, you need a 945, 940 is ddr2 only, 945 is ddr3 and ddr2.
every xx5 cpu from amd supports ddr3 and ddr2, if you buy a ddr3 board like this one you need an xx5 cpu, if you use a ddr2 board then you can buy a xx0 or xx5 cpu, but id recommend you a xx5 anyways so you can upgrade to ddr3 with a new board and dont have to buy a new cpu again :D
