Has any one got one of these folding yet? If so whats the PPD? I'm hoping to up grade my 9800gx2 to one of these around late june.

Yep. I really can't wait to see what kind of ppd these monsters get :)
DO NOT WANT.
After looking at the performance, its great for folding (think two gtx280s), but if you plan on gaming with it, eh. The support is going to be horrible, so I wouldn't bother.
I'd get dual cards or something IMO.
?????what's gaming????
What is this "Gaming" you speak of?
All work and no play.
:shakes::shakes::shakes::shakes::shakes:
Games, you ask?
I heartily recommend FC2. LOL What a BLAST!
No data yet even at F@H. I'm wrestling with the decision right now. The original and common sense plan was to put 3 of my 9800 GX2s in my I7 build.
And now it's 2 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130439
Or one of those and 2 of these... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227360
3 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127361 and 2 solid state disks?
If I went the common sense route with my 3 9800 GX2s I could get 3 solid state disks and have money left over.
Round and round the tequila bottle spins. Where she'll stop nobody knows.
Straight off the Fah Forum some results boys and girls....
"I have two GTX295's installed in my machine. The first two GPU's on the first slot card work fine and I was able to get them going lickity-split last night with F@H v6.23. They worked overnight producing 61 WU's and 3072 points. FahMon 2.3.4 is estimating 14,271ppd for those two cores."
With an overclocked quad and setup like that, you are looking at, what, 900-1000 watts drawn from the wall? It's great performance, but isn't the power used going to offset that?
yeah, 2 9800gx2's would kick it's butt..
From every thing I've heard the 295's use less wattage than a 9800gx2 by a good margin.
yeah, but doesn't the gx2 produce like 10K ppd for one card.... so a 2 card system would be 20K ppd just on the gpu's...
I just ordered one $250 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143128
wiki has
the gtx295 listed at 289w tdp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce...hnical_Summary
and the gx2 at 197w tdp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce...Specifications

Yep, but this guy is saying 14k+ Total for ONE 295. Further info there is that he is having trouble getting the other working.
I have to overclock quite hard to get 11K total from a gx2. I'm not sure what 197w relates to but I see no more than 150-160w change max between idle and folding both sides of gx2.
ahh, I thought he meant 2 cards, I didn't realize the 295 had 2 cores per card... shows how much I've been following nvidia's new stuff. it's way overpriced for me $500..
The 9800gx2 came out at about the same price and droped to 300$ within what, a month or two? So I'm thinking the 295 will do about the same thing.
If it does then I'll get a couple, till then, like Mike said $500 is too expensive (at least for me)
Yeah I think 500$ is to much but its better than what every one was thinking it would come out at (600$+)
GT300 sooner or later. That'll be money. ;)
My wallet hurts just thinking about GT300....
Clearly I didn't have enough tequila before placing my order. If I had I would have gone with the 2 GTX 295s. Instead I went with 3 solid state drives and a mobo for my Phenom 9600.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130136
The mobo will handle my 4 9800GTS cards and should allow 50K+ ppd for 2 rigs. :p: Hopefully that will curb the "Green" penalties I'm paying for living in California. Knowing me I'll still fire everything up for races and kill my budgeting.
I am also thinking of upgrading. I have 8800GTS 320MB.
I was looking for gtx260 216sp but not price drop can maybe get gtx280 or even gtx285? How would be info about those three cards with PPD?
If you search around a bit you'll find that the most bang for the buck from those three is the GTX260 216sp. GTX280 is just a little bump in PPD with much higher power draw, and GTX285 is only a bump from higher clocking shaders comparing to the GTX280. Question is what do you want to pay for one card and with what costs for running it will you put up?
Here's a heads up: http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...0-192-ppd.html
one guy reports struggling to get his 2 295's going at Fah forum but some initial good using one from: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=311924 It's in progress just now circa 14kppd no overclock
I have to say this thread makes me glad I stuck with 3 9800GX2s for the new rig. :) http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7874
i got my 295 today....
180.20 drivers...all others i tried no luck 180.87. older 17x drivers... could just be me and my crappy win xp install dont know.
i used driver sweeper and ccleaner uninstalled old drivers rebooted then dloaded 180.20 from nv.
well;
only thing ive tried so far is my beloved medieval 2. havent done fraps, but ive run 1920x1440 all maxed settings 4x AA and 2x game speed... occasional catch (@ 2x game speed mind you), but otherwise very smooth
cpu definitely not a bottleneck. e4300 @ 3.0GHz :p:
[b4 i run 16x12 with 2x AA and medium settings and ran out of vram frequently- 8800gt]
i do get a very slight noise from a component on the card (resistor or capacitor or something) when using 3d, but no noise at all with 2d desktop
mine running at stock at 70C load 50C idle.
if there is microstutter, i cant see it....
i'll try some fraps soon... needless to say huge difference from 8800gt :)
oh yeah, noise factor is no different to what i had before (ive got numerous 120mm fans) and the 620hx is handling it fine at load, i dont notice any temp difference from before, so the hx620 fan is working admirably.
i h8 to say it but this card needs more vram :D 2048 or more please.
ill run rivatuner to get an idea of the vram situation...
I've god in the past several days a retarded Idea ...
Get me a bottle of yar' booze ! Set sail ... oops ... no to grab me an I7 940 , 6 ~ 12 GB's of RAM and Two 295's
And I Heard to OC them from defalut 576/12xx to 650/14xx is like a breeze ... I'm starting to get PPD wet
actually i cant get 295 to display on reboot with XP :( drivers install i can use the card...then when i reboot the screen goes thru the inital xp screen then when going to desktop it just goes blank...but i hear the ms music....? any ideas? ive tried various drivers all the same result; i have also tried with a fresh install of XP?
i dont think it is the card as the card works before i restart.....
i'm using the 185 beta's. they work great
:/ good for you :)Quote:
Windows Vista Ultimate X64 Edition
Ordered a Zotac GTX295 yesterday and will report on my folding experiences on that. Hopefully my Tagan TG700-U25 PSU will not die from the amps that thing draws. :)
p2501 keep us updated on the status :)
seems like if your going to fold the 295 is a better choice than 280 as far as points per dollar.
...also points per watt it's better than two GTX260 216. I think aside from the price tag it's a win-win card. Oooh, I so hope that it's going to be here soon. :slobber:
Well see what it's going to reach on the shaders, later on it's going to be watercooled.
Update1: Okay, nVidia seems to have not checked the drivers for this thing prior to release. I installed 181.20, everything went fine. Then I went to disable internal SLI and PhysX, rebooted and BAM! Black screen. Nothing. Then reboot and safe mode. Wow. I don't know what I should think about that now. Well I'm downloading 185.20 now, we'll see how this will work out. Pictures will follow once this thing works like it should.
Update2: Got it folding, but just on one GPU (GPU0). I dunno but do I need to put a dummy on HDMI port too?
*looks at his order* 2x VGA Asus ENGTX295/2DI/1792MD3 1792 MB DDR3 (896bit), HDTV/2x *in stock*
*shivers* ooooh this will be bad ... very bad *mwahahaaha*
*whistles* Eager for the results ?
I'll go and fetch them later this afternoon when my Enermax PSU arives
*pokes everyone around* :poke:
newegg has 2 for $490 a piece...maybe I'll go straight to SLI :) imagine with a i7 build thats like 38k a day :D
Don't forget these are still having teething problems for folding just like the 4870s...

I received a reply from EVGA today regarding my issues. Here is my original question:
I purchased three EVGA GTX295 Plus cards for the purposes of gaming and running Folding@Home's GPU client. While the cards work perfectly well for gaming, I'm finding it impossible to get the F@H client to run on the second GPU of the cards despite a tremendous effort debugging the problem (found here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7874). Others seem to be having similar difficulties with the EVGA boards, but there's at least one guy with XFX boards that is having no problems. The most noticable difference is the slight overclock of the EVGA boards and the fact that the XFX BIOS numbers end in .72 and .73 while my EVGA cards end in .90 and .92. Some detail can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7936.
I realize that this is a very esoteric issue, but is there a possibility that I can be notified somehow when EVGA updates the GTX295 Plus's BIOS? Thanks for any help you guys can offer and thanks for really great products and service.
Here is EVGA's response to me:
I’ve received an update from my PM team regarding folding at home:
- NVIDIA is aware of the issue and is working on it.
- XFX will suffer this problem as well, it is a driver bug.
Once nvidia notifies us of an update will make sure our folding team is informed immediately. Unfortunately we do not have a ETA either on such drivers.
http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...p=79244#p79244
Here you go, I'm folding with the GTX295. FahMon reports 7261 PPD.
That you're folding on it is no wonder, but are you folding on both cores of the card? That is the problem here my friend.
WFO, isn't there that guy that supposedly has both cores folding on foldingforums?
Udpate: I have a HDMI dummy plugged in, but still no luck. Both DVI ports seem to be associated with the first card/GPU, while the HDMI port is on the second board/GPU. RT shows this for GPU0 ports:
Attachment 93190
(both DVI ports show up on GPU0)
This is for GPU1:
Attachment 93191
..and it's reading nothing from there:
Attachment 93192
So what to do? Does driver sweeping and reinstalling help? I like what I'm seeing from one card, but I want both running.
Here's what RivaTuner reports. I'm using an XFX card.Quote:
That you're folding on it is no wonder, but are you folding on both cores of the card?
Yup, it looks like both are entering performance 3D mode, but your PPD says it's just one core that folds. For getting both to run, you _need_ two GPU2 clients. There's no such thing as folding SLI one both cards with one client.
Are you xp or vista? I think I read that success was on xp (please don't ask me to find it)
well; i went to vista 32...and the card works fine; i still have no idea why i couldnt restart into xp...
only now i am bottlenecked by the cpu :p:
im going for a q9550 e0...i7 later on....but i need too save some dollars first.
riva tuner doesnt want to show me ram above 512 MB...but i'm fairly certain i am cpu bottlenecked.
i have set pre-rendered frames to 8, triple buffering on, and High Quality, and with these settings M2TW is quite smooth ;), but i need more cpu power (only running e4300@3.0GHurts right now)
I'm running Vista64, and yes, the only reported working installation is XP32, it's on the foldingforums. Bleh I don't like this. Even though I'm getting 8100 on 5758 I want it running full blast. :(

Needs a bit of clocking still and I need to think of a new way of sorting the VM's, because just now I had a monster 511 point WU which was choking one of the clients even if the VM was lowest priority and the GPU2 was set to high.
WOW! 16.6k ppd thats pretty impressive nice clocks!
Impressed!! love the filename too:)
Edit: What was the key
Yup, I think so too.
http://bandwidth.se/imgs/101/0/foldcmp.png
Shaders are topping out on 1512, dunno if more voltage or better cooling will help it any further. The memclk is stunning though, at least IMO. :)
Total PPD will go down because I now distributed both VM from core0-core2 and both GPU's have core3 for themselfes. Let's see what that brings me.
Edit: Oh and fan on 80% (3600RPM) brings me 72°C. It's not quiet and it's a squealer. Louder that both 9600GSO by far.
Edit 2: The key to get it working? I did a fresh and clean setup on both GPU2 clients. Then I changed the second DVI to dummy plug (the same as the HDMI now, second DVI had a cable to a real monitor before but I bet that wasn't the problem). I didn't change anything on the driver side, because 181.20 was giving me headaches before. Oh and I shut the enhance to 3rd monitor on and of and on, and there it was. The second GPU in RT. Wowsa. I have to admit that my Vista install is "vintage", so you might have no problems at all. But to me it seems that the drivers are not really ready for this. Fiddling around like this and needing to install leaked beta drivers to get it working? Come on nVidia!
whats the temp threshold on the 295?
I'm thinking about buying 2 of these and have them fold 24/7 and having the computer in my bedroom and I can deal without the noise.
Please do so, because it would help us all greatly. I at least can afford just one of them. But God I love this card. Somewhere around 1.2kg, matte black metal finish, it's really nice chunk of shiny new geek pron, sooo :slobber:

Excuse the subpar shots, I only have a camera phone to take these.
I plan on it just trying to get my 3rd and finaly 9800GX2 and that folding machine is done.
p,
If you have one and you get the chance can you stick a Kill-a-Watt on this and give us some numbers?
I guess I'm watching the chance of overtaking you verschwinden :p:.... time to start planning another build
can't wait for my kill-a-watt to show much how much 3x9800GX2's draw @ load thank god the government pays for my electric bill :)
Very nice p2501! Glad you got it running! Which "leaked" drivers did you use???
I'll be very happy if I can get 3 of my 9800GX2s running in my I7. Replacement board arrives tomorrow. And I'll put the other 3 in a new AMD 9600 build with a K9A2 Platinum mobo. That should yield 50-60K ppd from 2 rigs and lower my power bill. Of course that leaves 6 empty PCI-E slots and like an addict with an incurable addiction, I'll probably try to fill them.
I got it working! In my situation, there were two issues. The first was my having SLI turned on. The second was the HDMI port needs to be initiated, since it is assigned GPU1, whereas the DVI ports are both assigned GPU0.
w00t
wait what did you have to do with the hdmi? do you need two monitors to make it work?
Heheee, come and get me! =)
185.20, the only ones that work for me. Well, they're beta, so I used the term leaked. I've got the dreaded blackscreen on boot with 181.20.
nV needs to get their drivers working.
Glad to hear that!
But I think it would have been better if nV would have assigned one DVI port to each GPU, maybe we wouldn't have needed to have dummies all around.
It just means that you need to have a dummy in there too and you need to expand the screen to the HDMI output, as usual.
You think this is bad luck ? I have Both ASUS GTX 295 Here lying on the desk ... because the MOBO is dead :p:
Went to the reseler returned the MOBO took the P6T and it's up and running now I need to reinstall the OS I'm using half year old Vista that worked on X48 C2Q and single GTX280 , it's quite SLOW but I'm amazed that it booted without BSOD :hehe:
Btw any fast guide for Quad Client ? I tried the Dual Solution but i recieved some mbad_gpu or something like that
Check the fah forums, getting one card to work on Vista seems doable, but multiple cards = headaches. :(
p,
Would you mind posting (or me posting) your comment at FaH Forum:
"The key to get it working? I did a fresh and clean setup on both GPU2 clients. same question to you neb:
"I got it working! In my situation, there were two issues. The first was my having SLI turned on. The second was the HDMI port needs to be initiated, since it is assigned GPU1, whereas the DVI ports are both assigned GPU0."
OldChap, if you want to post it, feel free. The last time I tried to help there, I was ignored. You might add that rebooting after changes also might be helpful. But these 'hints' are only applicable to single GTX295 systems, I don't know what happens if you put in one more.
Yeah, the missus was laughing when I told her my card was singing for us, lol. Maybe we all should try the nail polish mod and void our warranties? :ROTF:
Naw, I can live with it. It's going to be watercooled, and then I can close the case already, problem gone. ^^;
Hm so far the ASUS GTX 295 is the only nVIDIA card I had since 8800GT that doesnt produce the obnoxious coils squeaking noise ...
Now I dont know why but if I start 3D Mard Vantage and WOW it's a a freeze , but an Instant yummy Lock , nothing except a reset works, but I can easily play Supreme Commander for several hours without an issue.
Happends with all drivers ... but this is perhaps Windows 7 Issue or I don't know ... bah ...
Well I fixed my issue , nvidia driver retardation caused a lot of issues but still one VGA runs and folds
but then I add the 3rd core [ 1st from the 2nd card ] It starts folding on GPU 1 [ 2nd on 1st card ] instead ...
and I clearly set params gpu 0 1 2 3 , the 3rd doesn't work I'm out of HDMI cables
I'm kinda more than confused Shouldn't F@H with flag GPU 2 fold on 2nd card 1st gpu instead of the 2nd of the 1st
Now I noticed that clients GPU 0 and GPU 1 are folding on cores 2 and 4
I think I just created a Vortex of chaos ...
Yep Rivatuner had me confused for a while with gx2's : a single showed as gpu0 then gpu1. two show as gpu1 then gpu0 then gpu2 then gpu3. If this does wierd I don't see any reason why yours should be different :D
Okay, I just found out the hard way that 1242MHz on the memory is my 295's upper limit on air, I went one step further (1260 I think) and it bsoded out. Well, that brought to my attention that, either because of the BSOD or because of the driver, on reboot the desktop wasn't expanded to the HDMI output anymore which kept the second GPU from folding, again. The only way to expand it was to take out the dummy and plug it back in, only after this expanding worked again. Now the second client still didn't want to get back to folding, so here's the second peculiarity about this card/driver: start up the second GPU's folding, then the 1st ones.
Learning by doing, lol.
Edit: Did a standard reboot because GPU1 dropped out of it's high clock and needed to recover. The desktop wasn't expanded again, also I needed to fiddle with the HDMI plug again. But this time I was able to start GPU0 first and then GPU1.
Now I'm getting 14,700 PPD with out of the box settings!
I don't even know in which section it was posted, but it's easy. :p:
Just take the card apart and drown each coil, choke and cap on the card with a good layer of nail polish. It was done on a 280, and it was silent afterwards. While you're at it you can also put on real TIM instead of the cheap stuff nV is using.. :D
Found linky: http://theovalich.wordpress.com/2008...280-squealing/
I'm returning one of the GTX 295, keeping just one ... while playing any game on QUAD sli i often get display error, application hangs up screen flickers and we're back in windows ... and the scaling wasn't that greac ... cept crysis warhead... 1920*1080 8x FSAA Enthusiast made me cry ... that was GODLY .... but as for now .. it's not worth the trouble perhaps as a folder but setting 4 cores properly ... yuck ... nvidia's Quad SLI simply isn't mature enough ...
It's good for benchmarks , useless for games , wants me to shoot someone at folding ...
I'll return it tommorow and get a full refund and buy myself a nice young barely 18+ hooker :hehe: night
YMMV with cyanoacrylate :(
No such luck here, they are singing the same tune. My next step is to set up a high sensitivity microphone after I install the waterblock.
You tried super glue and they're still doing this? Are you sure you've got everyone of them covered? Which block are you getting btw?
Soooo, let's make this thread also about clocks. I've found the sweet spot for my card on all three clocks. It' happily folding at (CSM): 702/1440/1242.
On folding forums someone is reporting folding at 1512, but I don't know if that's really _stable_ for him, I mean 24/7 folding stable here with an error rate close to zero.
Anyways, if I bring her up to 1476, the first one is fine but the second starts with NaNs. At 1512 the first starts with NaNs and the second has an NaN rate of maybe 95%. So no 1512 on the shaders for me (on air at least), I dunno if it's bad luck of the draw or if this is standard. So please all report your _stable_ clocks here, I beg you. ;)
Explanation of the squealing: http://theovalich.wordpress.com/2008...280-squealing/
What drivers are you using guys ? The officials WHQL'ed are giving me gaming issues , nvidia driver stopped responding bla bla ... didn't happend before ... I think. In foldin' is good
185.20
I just installed 181.20 today.
I'll ask again. Everyone, what are your stable clocks on both cards (stable as in absolutey no NanNs or whatnot)?
Additionally, of what brand is your card?
Shush ....
p2501 run . I'll find you one day and eat your dog :hump: ... I installed 185.20 ... boy was I suprised , That what I saw was not Microsluttering , it was Macrosluttering or FrameFrogger Edition, didn't matter what game I started ,From the beginning I had teleporting units ...
Thank god that the 180.20WHQL [ On the other side 180.22 not very crispy and crunchy ] are much much better , "teleporters" are visible only at 1920x1200 8x FSAA and High Load Games. As for the Folding, I'm out of dummy plugs , just 2 Cores are folding correctly [ 1 VGA ] and I don't think I should buy myself another 2 LCD's
Waaaaaait, you're running 180.20??
Sorry to hear about your experience, but that driver was the only one that let me boot with SLI disabled. But if you're running 180.20 with success I might try that too. But I'm returning my card tomorrow. If I buy something that expensive I think I can demand that both parts perform the same. :(
Yes 180.20 works like a charm, 180.22 works too but sucks hard in games and 185.20 gives me sluttering as newer.
I took one GTX 295 and will refund it tommorow ... it's too much work to make it work correctly even in games ... horrid
And I don't want to be nVidia betatester ...
Abd in the other hand the SMP client doesn't work ... evil
Oookay, then I think I'll try 180.20, too. Thanks for that, maybe with this I can get rid of beta drivers. Anyway, my Zotac will be refunded tomorrow, additionally I pulled the trigger on a XFX GTX295 and an Antec Signature 850W to go with it. The XFX got at least two good reports over at folding forums.
If SMP doesn't work then why don't you try multiple VM's? You're destined to do this with your i7! :)
(get WinAFC to go with it, I'll help you set it up if needed)
