Self Catering Accommodation

Okay, i'm tearing my hair out over trying to find some decent, reasonably priced self catering accommodation in London (with access to tube station nearby no more than 30 mins into central) and so far my internet-fu is failing me.

Everywhere i've found are in places like Kensington and Belgravia, and they're stupidly priced. Even a HOSTEL in Paddington wants to charge me £89 a NIGHT! No wonder the country is getting fewer and fewer visitors, i could stay in a 4 star hotel in New York or Miami for that price! :shakes:

GRR! Last year i stayed in a hostel (self catering) in Shepherds Bush (5 mins from Ravenscourt Park) for a mere £350 a week and it was great! Simple, but great. Now of course, their website has been down for months, and i think they've gone out of business, leaving me with few alternatives.

I'm looking at spending £5000 just for f*cking christmas with the g/f :(

Does ANYONE know of somewhere thats less than £750 a week in or around central london that does self catering that looks halfway decent, rather than someones crappy flat that's had a makeover with half a tin of dulux and a throw rug? :up:

All the more reason for you to keep that beautiful estate out in the country... :)

16 days, from the 19th December to the 4th Jan (she'll be with me from the 23rd to the 3rd)

Kai. I used to travel to London nearly monthly for a while. I stayed in the Holiday Inn in Sheperton. Was alright. Wasn't too expensive. And was a bit out from any built up areas. Canal beside the hotel and a lake. Very romantic if I was that inclined at the time.

The only problem I have with London in general, is that its full of well.. you know... Londoners and Brits. :up:

I want to be able to cook for myself what i want, my G/F is diabetic and has to keep to a certain diet, and i'd rather not eat out all the time and drain funds quicker than they're already going to :(

I'd suggest trying a travel agent that specializes in business travelers. It's been a few years since I've traveled for any job, but I was always staying in these "extended stay" kind of set-ups that our company travel agent put me in. I'm sure that London has some sort of business-to-business internet phone book that you could give a look.

I may have found a 1 bedroom apartment in Canary Wharf for £80 a night - only £1280 for the entire duration of my stay, which actually seems reasonable to me, here, take a look!

The only caveat is, it's not available on the 4th, i have to check out on the 3rd, but not a major deal, as the G/F flies back that day and i can go stay with a mate.

For that kind of money you should be able to go on a nice cruise......

Doubtful, for a cruise, you're looking at that much PER PERSON, PER WEEK.

Yep - sorted it out with the owner who's apparrently a forward unit commander in Afghanistan, with the British Army!

Cotswolds are 10x better than London and far more romantic... ;-). Just think you can then do day trips into London, just a40 m40 and your there....plus open fire etc in the cottages...I am a country bumpkin though.

Pam is from Florida and i've known her since 2004/5 when she was an exchange student at the same university as me. We've been very close for years, but recently it's developed into something more.

Silly question here, but in all seriousness, you dont think it could be becuase you inherited 500k is it, as youve made it public knowledge on here and women are known for being gold diggers. I would be careful if Im you as you are a nice guy and you dont want ppl taking advantage.:down:

On a side note Im holding a wow tournament over xmas, thats also doubling as a meet new people gaming/dating session and I wondered if your interested at all.....:D

HSBC didnt transfer the funds to the G/F in time for her to book airfare and didn't transfer funds to the apartment owner. In addition, yesterday evening, when trying to book my Ryanair flight, my card had been flagged and i couldn't book it.

Now there are no more seats left on Ryanair.

Did she tell you that she could book flights the week before Xmas? 'Cos thats almost impossible. Now I don't travel to Yankeestan. But from others I've heard and from relatives and friends, if you want a flight, week before Xmas, you book a few months in advance. Becasue they are just all gone. Thast just a thought...

We were both looking at flight details - Delta Airlines from Orlando to LHR via Atlanta, GA - there are still a few seats available, and they're pretty cheap. I'm guessing because no-one has any money at the moment.

No point now, cause *I* can't get a flight to the UK and there would be no accommodation at the other end.

But i'll probably go over to the States in January to make up for it, and i shall indeed pick up cheap goodies :p:
