OMG this thing is fast !! I'm using a R7500 aiw right now until I get my vapo PE on my R9800pro so not doing any 3d benches right now. Also I don't think its my processor that is craping out above 2.8ghz I think its the agp/pci bus.

The Sandra scores unbuffered? My 2.4B @ 3.2Ghz w/ 2x256mb pc-3200 @ 4:5 (DDR450) does 4500MB/s+ buffered...
Is that Sandra 2004? If not I would get it, it has A64 support now.
You can't compare Intel and AMD bandwidth unless its an FX51. That A64 is single channel.Quote:

WICKED fast, Major..........GJ!
Sandra 2004 didn't work with my A64 FX.......
just n/a every run!
C
Outstanding job Major :toast: Keep up the great work...I forsee some Top 10 3DMark action coming up very soon:thumbsup"
Randi:D
Thanks guys !
Jason I'm running it at 5:3 divider ! I don't have any ram that I can use 1:1 right now.
I took the IHS off today, but didn't notice any improvement in temps. But then again I did the Vcore mod and upped the Vcore to 1.75v so its hard to compare.
Charlie I get the same N/A in Sandra 2004
Tomorrow Vapo PE goes on R9800pro, and I have a FX5900 coming tomorrow too so should be a fun filled week ! :D
your gonna like that 5900, they are fun cards, very highly underrated in my opinion ;)
WOW!! outstanding...
lookin good major!! :toast:
Heres a tip for those of you getting an N/A in the Sandra 2004 Memory bench:Quote:

Hit the refresh button at the bottom of the window, it should run and complete the bench displaying bandwidth figures as usual.
Randi:D
Ok I'll give that a try MrIcee !!!
BTW: you have been missed !
damn, that thing must be flying.
I would love to have that system.
Ahh cmon major....answer mickeys question!!!
How did you get over 260 on the Asus??
Also...since you didnt seem to have any problems leaving the IHS on with the prommy....I am trying to figure out what happened to mine. Did you put dielectric grease all in the socket??
If not, I am wondering if I just tightined down the plastic bracket to tight or something....
What money ?? I've been out of work for month ! lolQuote:

Yeah right Mickey.....your the one I would call "money bags"....
How much ya up to this month??? Atleast 2-3 grand I bet! ;)
Excellent job Major.
I have a funny story for you. I went to a computer show today and was talking with a guy about the new A64 CPU's. He said that he read about a guy who overclocked his A64 to 5 GHz!!! I asked what type cooling the guy was using, and he said the guy did it on water cooling. So it looks like you have a long way to go to reach 5 GHz.
Well maybe thats what I'm doing wrong !!!!! I'll take my promie off it right now and try water cooling, I hope I can get to 5ghz too ! :DQuote:

IMO its the same computer show that was here a couple of weeks ago, run by Gypsies ??
Well Major...thats one hella nice OC even if you wont explain how...
Cant wait to see your scores once you get the VC going!!
Major,
Baaahhhhh......... secrets are cool...don't tell 'em!
C
Major-
great stuff here :toast: Cant wait till the rest of my A64 setup gets here and with my Mach II plus the Vapo your sending me, I might just have to hope and pray for some clocks like you have.
I just lucked out with a good chip, I'm hopeing for 2.8ghz but not sure yet how to get there.
You will have a great setup !! thats for sure ! ;)
impressive clocks Major... 273x10
need some 1:1 action :slobber:
I wish I had some ram that would do 260mhz + 1:1 on this board, but I'm pretty content with it at 5:3 right now. I've just got to figure out whats next to get past 2.8ghz. More Vcore doesn't help, lower HT to 600, 400, or even 200 didn't help. I guess I could try lowering my timmings on the ram, but it passes memtest without a hitch so I don't think thats it. Maybe LDT Vmod ?
Nice clocks Major! :toast:
Whats your Bootup FSB set to? 260 or 261?
And can you go up to 274 if you boot up at say 252?
Jason, the new Clockgen version is how Major got the K8V past 260 :)
http://www.solidhardware.com/macci/k8v/clockgen.gif
no more 260 limit :D
LOL Macci I wasn't going to say anything until it was public ! lol
I've tried going into windows at 240, 250, and 260, all give me the same result. I havn't tried playing with lower multi's yet, I've got to get past this wall and hit 2.8ghz or I won't be able to sleep ! :D
Any suggestions ?? what would the Vldt mod do for me ??
That is just sick!!! I am paying big bucks for a good oc'ing 2.6c right now. I was gonna let these a64's mature a little before getting them being that I usually only build 1 or 2 systems a year, but they are looking pretty mature as they completely dominate the orb right now...and none of them were that high :D
Major Hope it wont do the same thing for you as it did for me RIP
I hope not to Stinger, I've only got 1.75v on Vcore right now and I think I could probably lower that to 1.7 or so and still be able to bench. It was running fine at 2.6ghz and 1.65v
Major that system is gonna be incredible with the 9800 in there. Good luck bud. :toast:
you better go fast though...your secret is out. If you had kept it under wraps you probably would have had the top spot easily!
Well you still have to have a chip that will do 2.7ghz + and I think with my vapo PE on the r9800pro that I should be able to bench at 550/420 or better on the gpu. I doubt I can take 1st Opp is at 2.7ghz too and his Rady is OCed to 580mhz ?? lol
Major,
I believe 27K is "for sure" possible...
C
Is this with an FX or a 3200?
This is an A64 3200+
Ok I've just tried 3:2, 5:3 dividers and no change, I can't figure out what is causing it to lock up at 2.8ghz. Its acting like its the agp/pci bus, and IMO clockgen doesn't change the divider from whatever it is set at in bios so until new bios I guess 2.74ghz is it.
Does the FX5900 like high agp ??
Somehow I think that you will find out that answer on your own;)
Damn fast machine you got there MS
:toast:
try 300fsb and see if a 1/9 divider kicks in
That is rediculous!! Unacceptable!! My grandma can oc her toaster that high!!Quote:

Ya that what I just got through doing ! at first it appeared as though the agp/pci was on a different divider based on clockgen info, but it did the same thing when I OCed it.Quote:

I've squeezed alittle more out of it, lol 2.75ghz now. by disableing a couple of ht settings (that I don't even know what they do ! lol) crc flood and tristate ??
tri state will dramatically affect performance in the tristate area...but once you have left that geographical region, it looses it's affect...happy to be of assistance...:spam:
try agp4x with fastwrites off? if you havn't already and the settings are available. how cold is the northbridge?
Well I'm running a R7500 AIW right now until I get my vpao back on the R9800pro. I'm waiting until tomorrow I've got a FX5900 coming and I want to modify the vapo mount so I can use it on it aswell. So I think the card is already running at 4x and no fast writes. I'm through playing with it tonight, got a big day in front of me tomorrow with benching and will tackle it when I've got it set up to do some benching. Who knows the R9800pro might like higher agp than the R7500 does ? or vice versa ? lol
Damn fine work Major, it's nice to see the results coming in, now all that's needed is the new BIOS for some serious benching. :D
damn, those are some nice sandra scores
:slobber:
Major, I got the same AGP problem with one FX5900 here.... 260MHz FSB and above is a no go.... AGP tearing and black outs all over the place.... like in the early NF2 days, when we wanted 200FSB :D
Those VIA are eh realy dump arse.... I bet the KT880 won't have AGP/PCI Locks...
Please Major Slaughter....
Can you Post the Full Stepping of your CPU ????
I've got here mine and is ADA3200AEP5AP CAAKC 0334TPMW 9441535240131....
This night i will install it on my ASUS K8V DLX and see how it goes....;)
i lost my win install @10*270 :(
Sorry I didn't get to finish my thoughts before I posted the above and could not reply back sooner. My 1 year old son is teething and did not sleep well last night. Anyway, it was not a vendor at the show that said that, but another customer. I started to explain to him that it was not possible to reach 5 GHz with an A64 chip, but after a few minutes I realized the futility of my efforts and just gave up. For some reason, he really believed that it was possible.Quote:

So great overclock Major, Mickey, etc.!!!
Very nice oc Major!
Enjoy...
Just a side note for Althlon 64/FX users. New CPU-Z has been released. Ver1.20.
Grab it here.
this is a definite possibility from personal experience. i had a rig keep locking up because the agp was too high. swapped vid cards w/ same oc, and ran perfect. now get that 9800 in there!!Quote:

Ok Fedex has come and gone and left me with my FX5900, so I'm going to give it and my TI4600 a try just to see if I can verify thats it my AGP/PCI and not the chip (so I can fianlly sleep some !)
Then it back to benching ! ;)
sounds good man :) i can't wait to see the results on the 3d benchies :D 3dmark2k1 is gonna PWN ;) ... and again 1 more congrats on the awesome rig :D
Ok i just installed mine and running with Stock Aircooling and Default Vcore 1.488 at 2230 MHZ......
I didnt find yet the MAX STABLE OC with Default Vcore.......
Is just the beggining and the Memmory until now 1/1 (PC3700 Twinmos)........
keep us posted with your benchmarks
Damn... that's better than my A64.... It seems that I need 1.525V ( trough the CrystalCPUID ) to get it stable @2210.... you're lucky
Well I've been doing everything but benching so far today :(
I've still got to take my Vapochill apart to put on my R9800, and it looks to be alittle more time consuming than I thought. But later tonight should be running 3dmark01.
Cut me some slack Jason ! lol
I had to take my gaming rig apart and put in my Koolance case, then set it back up. Been messing with that all day it seems.
I've been playing with the FX5900 in my gaming rig and so far I'm pretty impressed. It's not a 9800pro but still is very fast, and a definite imporvement over the TI4600 I was using.
that better be more sarcasm or I will be pissed!!Quote:

I'm very anxious to see your results when you go to your watercooling. You should try a make a plate to hold down your waterblock on your 64.Quote:

If only I had that sort of money to throw around.....Im green with envy here.
1 day when ive finished my studies I WILL give u guys a run for your money ;). Until then I will keep chugging away with what my pocket can afford.....overclocking the crap out of it and learning from everything i read here.
:D
Oh and by the way......Nice one Major :)

Really nice there major!
Major,
awesome my man, but be very carefull with VLDT mod as it can take your chip out in no time if you go too high with juice.
damn, nice results...
cant wait to see it with the 9800p :)
Sounds like one of those chances that you should pu toff til you have the cash flowing again :DQuote:

LOL ! :D
Ya I decided not to do the Vdlt mod right now, maybe never ! lol
Ok got the Vapo PE on the R9800pro, everything is set up !
Wouldn't that be classic? :p: :DQuote:

No matter what I try I can't bench at 8x agp any higher than 2.6ghz. with AGP at 4x np up to 2.72ghz but what a hit in performance ! OK back to waiting for some sort of agp/pci lock and or usable divider.
I was able to OC to 2.8ghz with the TI4600 in it, so I think I've got a really good chip. Might pick up the Gigabyte K8N pro this week and see how that goes.
26,256 is it :(
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7134588
Really? I didn't notice any major hit - my 27240 is done at 4x (well my drago scores are maybe a bit low) :DQuote:
AGP at 4x np up to 2.72ghz but what a hit in performance !
I have to drop to 4X after 250 or so. :P
POS hardware!
btw with decent car low you'd be over 26.5k now I think.
PS did you use the beat BIOS on that run? :)
Ya using 1003.015, I can't OC my R9800pro any more than 548 without problems too. I could do better than that b4 on intel CW so I'm sure it's agp related too. Temps are much better now on gpu with Vapo PE by about 10c, so I think once I either get NF3 mb or a fix for this I will be rolling ;)
yea running ATI at high AGP greatly reduces OC potential :(
I was at 564gpu only..on intel I could run dragos at 584/580 :P
I guess its about time to find an AGP locked A64 board ;)
My thoughts too ! I'm going tomorrow to see if I can still get the gigabyte here b4 the weekend.
You guys should try this Gigabyte, and while your at it tell me how to get more mem voltage out of this POS:D
Tomorrow I'll hook up a resister to the OVP pin and get some more v-core, it kicks off at 2.11V. I'm gunna do some 3D at 2800MHz if the OVP mod works and if my memory can handle it with 2.89V-2.95V fluctuating:D
OPP
BTW: Nice OC Major:)
OPP
Opp do you like the Gigabyte ??? POS ??
I guarantee you this chip I have can do upwards of 2.9ghz on a NF3 mb. I hit 2.8ghz at 1.75v. I'm about  of the agp/pci issues. I haven't had this much frustration in OCing since the KT133a
It was pain to get use to but I have it wired now. Biggest problem is the mem voltage, plan on useing 5:4, but at 280 your mem does 232MHz already so it's getting close to haveing to lower the timings.
This is the only mobo I've tryed so I don't know, I do know I'm seeing what everyone else is getting with other boards and it doesn't look all that great, except for macci as usual:D
Sounds like a great chip Major, hope it does the same on a different mobo.
OPP
The only place I even see 600fps is Drag low, never in car !! :D
I did the reg tweak, I don't know what else to try really. I'm through benching until I get a different mb or agp fix.

"Captin, I'm givin ya all she's got !"
lol
OPP my man.
crank up +3.3V rail to 3.6V or so and you'll get around 3.05 v-dimm:D i saw your screenie the other day and noticed you're only at 3.28v @ +3,3v  that's unacceptable my friend:D Also, you bench at 2.5x LDT i take it?
If you take it out of hex and click decimal, you can enter in the number 1024 for 1mb of cache. But, 400 is correct, either way works. It does nothing for 3DMark though.Quote:

Soulburner ---> I know that, I didnt mean just the numbers, Jason wrote "Secondleveldata=1024" isnt it "SecondLevelDataCache=1024"?
nice stuff major
Yeah I meant decimal. SecondLevelDataCache = 1024 in decimal will do the same thing as 400 in hex.
Major, congrats! I knew I'd see your name in lights! ;)
Keep it up!
Good going Major :toast:
I ordered a Gigabyte K8N-pro yesturday and it should be here before Friday. So maybe with this chip I can bench at over 2.8ghz ? at the very least I wont have to deal with the agp/pci issues ! lol
Jason I'm about out of cash ! this might be my last upgrade for a while ! ;)
I've got a 2.8c coming from Intel and P4C800 that still hasn't made it back from rma so I'll have something to play with on the Intel front again in a week or so.
yeah, but right before you get what you are going for, raise your goal :toast:Quote:
