Possible to remove pci slots without breaking the board or desoldering every single connection?
Why are you painting it?
And I do not believe you can remove them without desoldering them but dont qoute me on that
Well I am going to do one of those white/black color schemes and I want to paint the pci slots all white.
I just had a revelation put dead card into slot
paint
???
profit
tape it up?
OOO ok so you are painting the PCI yeah I would just tape it all over and then I guess a dead card would work I dont know I have never heard of anyone doing this
that too.
All the pci slots including the pci-e's
and all the other slots for that matter.
Ide sata fan connectors atx power all of it.
I'd say: VERY BAD IDEA!
If you want a board with a certain color scheme, then buy one that matches that scheme as good as possible. But don't mess with parts that you don't have a clue about.
This is not meant as an offence, please don't misunderstand me. I'm only concerned about operating safety of the board. If you should accidently cover thermally sensitive parts in lacquer, or if you should get some lacquer inside the slot(s) (which most likely will happen with what you are planning to do), it would be highly possible that your motherboard will go up in flames later. Due to thermal overload, or perhaps due to a power contact that has increased resistance because of some of the paint being stuck there, or something like that. You can't foresee things like that. Especially if you don't really know what you are doing.
Just my :2cents: ,but think about it. Would that mod be worth the risk? Really think about it!
Do you seriously think that I would let that happen.
I would spend hours prepping everything. taping off everything perfectly.
I seriously doubt that if I accidentally cover a cap or resistor or something in a little paint its going to explode the next day.
After I paint the slots ill check for that meticulously cleaning off any paint that got where I didn't want it to go.
Just because I am a noobie to the forum doesn't mean I have a lack of skill or ability.
Also lots of pre testing and practice on other boards.
So, you are an EE or a CSE who can really check if everything is alright after doing the mod? I dare to highly doubt that. What you are doing is risky and absolutely pointless, although you might not want to see it.
A single flake of lacquer in the wrong place can ruin the slot, board or the gfx card.
Keep to painting cases or any oher passive parts, but stay away from painting anything active if you don't exactly know the possible consequences. If you don't want to hear the warning, do the mod. Perhaps it'll be alright. At least I hope so for you. But if anything goes wrong, don't come here to complain.
So, if you really think that you have all the needed skills, then stop asking and go ahead and do the mod already. Don't know what's keeping you.
Check out this, he painted his mobo, no update really though. :)
they make plastic covers for your all the slots on your motherboard including your rams slots.they come in all different colours...just pm me........never mind you already painted it...
Just dont use any paint from china, Lead is'nt good for a motherboards circuits!
I wouldn't do it at all... that's just asking for trouble.
Well seeing how that guy diddnt seem to have problems with his board and he painted the WHOLE THING
I think ill be able to get by just painting my slots.
I mean seriously guys.

Very gooood
very fing cool
I've been told you could do that.
O my Asus 790i ultra would be fing sick white!! My warranty is already fed sooooo hmmmmm.
Doesn't it ruin the heatsinks?
You should ask the guys who dreamed up the TRUE Black Edition  ...
I think it would be potential harmful as the paint would cover the ferrite cores on the inductors and mosfet heatsinks which get pretty damn hot... anyone like the smell of burning paint?
Thats pretty sweet!
nope all I want to do is paint the slots
just that
that pen mod idea just gave me some great inspiration for PermaFrost, thanks for posting it :)
Saw the PCI-E connector off a dead card, add some painters' tape?
thats the plan :)
This thread has really got me thinking about painting my 790i board.....
Think the spray paint that is used for plastics would work the best? I want a white motherboard!!!!
The maybe trace the points with a black marker....I already goofed the warranty on the board so.
I am trying to get that fresh murdermod look.
All I am going to paint is the slots white. Dont know about the whole motherboard.
Seems like as long as you mask and stick a dummy card in the slots you shouldn't have any problems.
What kind of paint? high heat ceramic?
So I went and bought the PALSTIC use spray paint last night.
White.
I am going to paint my 790i Ultra.
I don't know if I will paint the blocks yellow or purple or just white tho. Thinking about that one today.......
I have a stacker I want to paint it purple or yellow then it's eaither one of those colors that will be on the grill. Also painting the ocz phase that way to.....
I think purple and yellow grates would look better. I don't know about the board tho.......Purple and white? White and Yellow?
this is rediculous.... what ever happened to adding some coldcathodes and calling it a modded system... this is alot of work here
lol. Yeah.
Lets put it this way... my husband says that I should run around grunting like Tim Taylor and saying "More Power" like he does. It seems like most people on this forum are exactly like that.
Its not about the work, its about how cool it is and what it can do.
:yepp:
think resale value. Only people who don't mind potential fire hazards and your choice of colours will buy it from you if you ever decide to sell.
if you never sell that wouldn't be an issue though.
I just know I wouldn't pay you 12quid for a home painted 790i mobo, lol

VERY EASY TO REMOVE!!!!
Not sure maybe purple/Yellow tubes
http://img.techpowerup.org/081225/block bottom.jpg
A lot nicer than I expected!!!!

As you all know this board has been deep freeze ready. Had nail poish all over it...and de- electrical grease all over it. PLUS still had spots on it from when it had the major major leak on it and would not turn on for two weeks.....ALMOST DONE AFTER HOURS AND HOURS
I used a Zip-Tie and a paper towel to wipe the zip-tie on it. About to move to alcohol to get the last tid bits/ O man I didn't want to break one little chip and kill my board.....

Hey my board came down in price a little LOL
$329.99
Motherboard is going to be white(It's going to look sweet I already know). I don't know about the pci slots and stuff. I might just let them be....Don't know yet. I could just cut a pci-e video card bottom off and paint them one by one.
Sorry Camera Phone today.....

http://img.techpowerup.org/081227/paint 790i 2.jpg
All tho it does look kooL like this
No one can call me a chicken :banana::banana::banana: for sure now LOL
I just started painting on a 790i Asus Ulta motherboard with no backup!!!
Just got done with the 2ed coat going to wait a bit more for the 3ed/
http://img.techpowerup.org/081227/paint 790i 3.jpg
I've never thought painted motherboards look good. That being said, what I find interesting and visually appealing is building a motherboard cover, from which you cut the necessary slots and what not and paint that, as those should be smooth and flat.
A cover would be cool also.
IDK I have never seen motherboard spay painting before this thread.
I just did a 3ed coat and it's starting to look really slick and shinny.
Almost almost!!! Thinking about taking a permanent marker and color some of the chips red.
http://img.techpowerup.org/081227/paint 790i 025431.jpg
Or tapping around them and using the same paint as I am on the blocks.
LOL I wonder what the RMA department would say LOL.
lol if it doesn't work you should tape a video camera on it and rma it just we can see the look on their faces.
Good job, I'm am scared for you if you don't have a backup. But you could always hang it on your wall and frame it. :) Hopefully it will work fine though
http://img.techpowerup.org/081227/first white 790i.jpg
Tell me a white motherboard is not the :banana::banana::banana:?
Going to fix missing spots with white out.
It's not finished yet!
wow...
hahaha i wonder if this thing will even boot.
Who knows lol. I had to even scrape fingur nail poish off the damn board before this LOL. And all that black insulation crap...took forever. Used a zip-tie and a tooth pick to almost 1/2 section of the board....I'll post a pic of the back and you will know I'm talking about:).
looks pretty cool, need some colour to contrast it with though i think. Be interesting to see what this does to your temperatures if it ever boots again :D
wow, I feel like I should do this to permafrost...... but I think that the RMA value of my board needs to be considered first.... this board has a 3 year warranty with DFI
omg need to see if this works..
Well I'm not turning it on been cleaning today....on here on and off LOL
Camera is dead so sorry bad cell phone pic.
Also I'm going to paint the block while it's off the board. Tonight I plan on doing that, and turning it on 2mrow.
http://img.techpowerup.org/081227/maybe.jpg
Just a what it would look like now.
omg your crazy!!!
hope it works, looking sweet!
haha looks like someone dumped flour all over it! hahaha ,
i like it tho , its mad..
I can't wait to see if it works or not!
omg.. madness.. love it! :D

Had to turn down my volts....always have been funny with this chip. Up one day down the next. Freezing it makes it worse....IDK lol
30mins of prime blend just fine.
Oh god no offence but its terrible.
All i want to do is get the ports like pci and :banana::banana::banana: colored. Not the board itself. What have I done. I got someone to paint a 200+ motherboard white for no reason at all.
Please have my children
You think this looks like :banana::banana::banana: LOL
I was also told by a guy that has ran more than one RMA deparment that you could paint a board with no issues. I have known about it for a while. I seen your thread and it made me really want too do it.:)

blurry burly :( I only likt this kind of blurry personally link nsfw maybe......
http://img.techpowerup.org/090101/blury no flash.png
I have not finished painting. I have two water loops yet to install water blocks on video cards. The phase on the CPU(which I might make glow, a window, and other things.....A meanwell will be installed in the case. Also I put 2 more uv lights for a total of 4 in there. IT LOOKS WICKED!!!!!!
Over at techpowerup someone found out or said that this plastic spray paint is used on heating pad mitts. It's pulls in heat. In fact the other thread where another guy has started doing this has proved with his word and SS that his temps DROPPED after painting his heatsinks. It could make the board last longer. It could.
I killed the warranty on this board as soon as I took it out of the box. ASUS would never let me send it back to them. For one the serial number is jacked up!!! So I tossed it in the trash, and really I have put this board to hell and back I would feel bad about doing a RMA on it.To each his own, but it looks even better in person. There was around 15 20 people over last night/all of which loved it:)
It really really looks better in person. I can't wait to take it to a lan event:)
