3.6Ghz doesn't mean crap without benchmarks. Some 9950s can hit 3.6 lets see how it performs.
Could be engineering sample or somethign newer since that board "Asus M3A79-T Deluxe" has AM3 support listed on it for ASUS's website

What volts were necessary to do 3.6GHz and which revision of the chip (final or DVT)?
Yeah, some more information would have been usefull. It's a nice OC nonetheless, but the 'easy' part makes me think, could it been higher with a bit more time? What Vcore? NB OC? etc:confused:
With 7% IPC increase that would be like an 9950BE at 3.85GHz. Best I could reach on air was ~3.2GHz/1.45V. On their press meeting they showed 4GHz at 1.55V on air. I'd be interested in NB oc limits also.
All i see is an asus board with a waterblock on it.........I can take a pic of my board with a DI unit on it and say i hit 6ghz.............screenshots speak a 1000 words for eveidence.
Yeah, there are limits to what can be said right now as all of you are well-enough aware.
All I'll say is that the evidence for what I'm saying will be clear enough in due time.
I will qualify my "easy" statement though - It took me about 1/2 an hour to find a quad prime stable (8 hrs) setting of over 3.6GHz on air. Also there was no mussing about with HTT settings, so that should give you a clear idea of what chip this is :)

So the Jan release is AM2+ only? When will the 1st AM3 ones be out? I thought they would have released at the same time since they don't specifically need a AM3 mobo.
AM3s are planned for Feb or March as I recall.
Wonder if SB600 still makes them worthless for overclocking. Might get some use out of this M3A yet.
sb750 has been shown to only help very pore clocking chips. sb600's are still most of them anyway real good boards.

Im a bit in a black hole though. There's not much to chose regarding motherboards for AM2+ right now and thus Im seriously considering to get a M3A79-T Deluxe because of the extra phases. On the otherhand Im thinking of just giving this 790FXB another try and making sure I get some better cooling on the MOSFETs.
However I cant find any after market MOSFET coolers which will fit on the DFI. I took a look on DFI's newest UT board for Intel, X58. If you look at the cooling etc on it, it's awesome. But I seriously dont see DFI releasing another AM2+ UT board. And if they plan to get an AM3 UT board, it will probably take so long to get it available that by then RD890 is out as well. DFI is always too late with releasing things:(
So at this point I think I might get that Asus board or just sit it out on the 790FXB untill/after RD890 and see if there's any good board out by then.
But then... If there's finally a good board Ill have to swap to an AM3 Phenom II CPU anyway... It's getting annoying now lol:p:

Well, I was Priming overnight. I wake up the next morning and notice the PC was off, but with stanby LED etc on. This is weird since I cant even shut my PC off since it will always restart. I've always been a bit afraid to do that, myself. Those motherboard makers are real sticklers on RMAs. All it would take is a little bit of AS5 left unnoticed during cleaning for them to reject your piece.

No benches unfortunately, but that shouldn't be too much of a mystery. It's a Phenom without the TLB bug. It has some more cache, and some tweaks. I'd say probably within 2-10% of original Phenom clock for clock.
As for more headroom, I don't know how good the compatibility of this board is with the mystery chip. It recognizes it correctly, but it takes a long time to POST. I think with a better board/better cooling there has got to be more headroom in here. Like I said before though, this was a VERY quick & dirty overclock and I don't even have the chip/board anymore.
I know you guys are foaming at the mouth for this stuff, but I'm lucky I was able to post what I did.

CPU-Z is an old version and did not detect a lot of things correctly about the CPU.
The frequency is no problem though :)

I wouldn't worry about the Agena string. No Agena has a 6MB L3 cache, and that's what CPU-Z is showing.
