player is KMPlayer 1433. i have both of these cpus and i cant watch a single 1080p movie without stuttering etc. 720p is fine but it is on my old laptop too...what is going on?
OS is XP X64 , vista X64 , 8 gb of ram , nvidia 260GTX...
please help :shrug:
You're probably not using GPU acceleration and 2.6Ghz doesn't cut it for 1080p. I had to overclock my media center's 4850e to 3.0Ghz in order to play 1080p perfectly because FFDSHOW doesn't support GPU acceleration. I guess 2.8Ghz is enough, but i set it to 3.0 just in case.
I was getting audio/video desync with 1080p, everything 720p was just fine.
you mean KMPlayer doesnt use hardware acceleration?
what is the 1080p source? is it x264? or blue ray?
just for your info, i am running 1080p 25 fps, x264 (Matroska) smoothly with a x2 5200+ and a 9600gt.
KM Player isnt the end all either, i dont use it, i use media centre lol with some codecs
give us more info?
Video codec is important. HD-DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, and x264 all rely on the H.264 codec which is extremely taxing in 1080p. At modest bitrates of around 12-15Mbps, you'll be swamped on a K10 up to around 2.8-2.9GHz. Even then it's just barely enough.
If your media is in MPEG-4 (xvid, divx, WM9, etc) then you'll be alright even at stock speeds.

i watched a movie that was encoded at 7mbit average h.264. some parts went over 100mbit input bitrate and demolished my cpu. i found out my 3ghz duel core can do about 20mbit before crying. id figure a 2.5ghz quad could do almost every blue ray rip out there, but until i have one theres no point assuming
it is a X264 movie , 1536 kbit/sec ... what was the name of that codec package, CCCP or something?Quote:

install the CCCP and while KMP still has jerky playback , WMP 11 with the matroska codec loaded plays flawlessly :D . Cant believe the KMP falls short
k-lite codec package works a dream too, needs a bit of configeration, but aftert that its fine, glad to hear its working ok :up:

I use media center for TV, DVD, cause I have tv tuner but I haven't tried recoding a digital shows yet. tuner supports 1080I/P TV.
I don't get many though.
Is Cool and Quiet disabled? I know Anandtech has had stuttering issues with video when C&Q is enabled.
what about using VLC player? the new version is pretty extensive with settings....plays my 1080p .mkv files flawlessly
which codec r u guys recommending for .mkv play back in WMP?
I can play 1080p movies smoothly using the onboard vga of my Asus 780G and X2 5200+ @stock 2.7Ghz. No stuttering or lags whatsover and I am using KMplayer also.Quote:

This FFDSHOW will install over the one that came with CCCP and fix you right up. Your problems will be solved. I had the same problem with a 6.64GB 1080p Blu-ray rip and my 3.0Ghz Opteron 185. One core is not enough to handle the decode. Two cores at even 2.6Ghz are on this old CPU now. Try out my solution. I guarantee it will work perfectly for you. Have a nice day.

Like has been already stated, a 780G/790FX X2 or Phenom combo should be more than Bluray capable with multi-core and hardware decoding software support. Iron Man looks and sounds amazing. The only problem is some tearing under fast moving scenes. Several other Blurays experience occasional video and audio stuttering. I was convinced my main problem was slowish DDR2 and a lack of sideport memory. So I'm hoping yours is the complete solution.
BTW, I don't know if anyone else has experienced this with the BE-2400... it's fixed at 1.250VID no matter where the FID is set. I confirmed this with a Kill A Watt and again with a multimeter.
well back with a new problem , if i leave CnQ enabled the playback is still troublesome...disabling CnQ is fine even with a 12GB 1080p movie. What i noticed is that CnQ although raises the voltage to 1.3V while the movie is playing the frequency is stuck at 1250MHZ. It doesnt go to 2500MHZ as it should despite the fact that vcore reaches 1.3V. I checked that with cpuz 1.48 , maybe a cpuz bug?
but still with CnQ enabled the processor cant decode the 1080p content

Core AVC = best HD decoder on the net probably.
my 3800+ x2 @ 2.5 can play any 1080P rip i have tried.

Also theres a way to "trick" VLC into using our ATI and Nvidia HARDWARE video decoding capabilities. You go into the settings and mess with overlay and decoding options. Google info about VLC and you may find it.
Interesting Note: My WD 74GB Raptor crapped on me so I installed OpenSuSE 11.0. That 6.64GB 1080p file that I needed a multi-threaded FFDShow to play in Windows plays on one core in Linux only using ~80%. Instead of 90% of two cores in Windows, I only need 80% of one core in Linux!!! I'm trying to find out why. This works with any of the players (well the players with codecs, linux codec support sux) in SuSE so I think Linux uses CPU resources more efficiently. Interesting...

Ideally I want to continue using Media Center as I like its UI compared to others.
Has anyone got a similar configuration, who can offer confirmation on compatability, and what codec packages are needed etc...
I'm fairly new to the whole HTPC stuff, particularly where HD is concerned, I've had my DVB-S card setup and running with WMC for a while now, which took a bit of fiddling to get it to all work, but want to upgrade to DVB-S2 in readiness for HD.
I've done some searching and noticed on the GreenButton site that Windows 7 MC pre-Beta seems to offer full DVB-S2 HD support, and wonder if this might be the way to go, rather than installing Vista, maybe get a [cough] beta copy of Windows 7[/cough] and install this to run on the HTPC and until the retail version becomes available.
VLC can use the video card, you just have to set the output module to Directx.Quote:

Gotta agree with you on this one. All my BluRay, DVD, Divx, and etc. plays flawlessly on the VLC Player. I wouldn't use anything else. All the codec and tweaking stuff is a waste of time when VLC can do it all for me. I have a mere AMD 4050e Dual Core (stock clocked), Radeon 3850, and 2GB of RAM under Vista 32 Bit Ultimate and everything runs without a problem. All my 1080p and 720p play great, be it Blu Ray Disc or downloaded torrent content. Sorry some of you are having problems though.Quote:
