Jetway HA07-Ultra (790GX)

It's cool when the manufacturers hear us. I'v just reviewed the HA07 Ultra, wich is a really good board, but it was lacking something. So I sugested Jetway to include CPU-NB Voltage and Multiplier settings.

They have just send me a beta BIOS with CPU-NB Voltage setting, wich helped me to get my X3 8750 to 3.2GHz (12x266):

The only problem with this beta is that the ACC is not working (no boot when enabled), hence the high vcore.

Now waiting for the CPU-NB Multiplier :)

Are you sure it's not just a warm boot issue. I must do a cold boot sometimes after changing ACC values on various 790GX boards.
Did you select 1.45V or 1.475V in the bios? Board temps look similar to GBT790GX was always a tad below cpu temp there with a small fan.

justapost, I'm pretty sure it's a bios bug. It costed me lots of clear CMOS to find out it was the broken ACC. I did some cold reboots too.

I selected 1,40v vcore, the board overvolts a lot: 1,41v idle 1,50v full

My previous best on this board was 12x250 1:2

My RAM won't do 1066 so I had to lower it down to 667 for 266MHz base htt clock: (+100mv on CPU-NB to work at 2400MHz)

Can be only the sensor reading is off. On the AsRock I saw a similar high overvolt under load. Measured with a DMM it was only half as high.
But on that board also the idle reading was reported higher.
Max difference between idle and load i measured was ~0.03V. That was close to the voltage regulators chip's limit for overvolts. This chip's spec said the chip powers off safe once that limit is reached. Was an STL6740L.

Your board uses an Fintec Sensor chip. AsRock an Winbond and GBT used an IT87xx. On the gbt board the sensor chip readings where really close to dmm measurements.

Ran everest mem bench for comparison (testing cpu's limits on aircooling with 330W psu there atm).

I really hope that this board is available in UK ,I have been looking all over for this particular AMD GX board with no success.

I had no problems with ACC on older BIOS (initial and A02), it's just with this beta.
With ACC AUTO this X3 gos to 3GHz with stock vcore (1,20v) plus 10% (secound "gear" on the 7 shift) = 1,36v full.
Without ACC I had to set 1,325v wich gives about 1,39v full.

I'll look for a vcore measure point to see if it really overvolts that high. ;)

The 8750's clock nice for their price. Did i get this right you can select the CPU-VID and give an multiplicator for the vcore. GBT always used stock VID and and voltage offset. AsRock uses vid's up to 1.55V and then starts to add 0.1V voltage offsets. In the bios you can select that as vcore up to 1.8625V.

You can select the VID (from 0,8v to 1,55v in 0,025v steps) and a multiplier (the 7 shift, wich works just like the DFI's CPU Special Add): +5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35%. The maximum selectable vcore is 2,09v (1,55v + 35%), but then there is the overvolt...

The cool thing is that if you don't touch the VID, you can overclock keeping Cool 'n Quiet enabled. But Cool 'n Quiet sucks on Phenom, it refuses to return to normal clock with just one core on full load. Cinebench scales over 3x on the triple core because the 1CPU runs with one core at 1.5GHz and the xCPU runs with three cores at 3GHz...
So I have to disable CnQ for maximum performance.

But it works like a charm for power consumption. idle power with CnQ is 110w, idle power without CnQ is over 150w (total system, both on IGP only). :(

It might scale if your load would let it. The Windows thread scheduler bounces a thread between all cores in a system very rapidly. Try idling and just setting affinity to one core under load.

Particle, I'll try it later. It will probably work, but then I have to set affinity to all cores for the xCPU run.
This looks more like a OS issue. Nor XP or Vista know how to get the maximum out of current multicore processors.

When a process is jumping from core to core a Core 2 Quad, there is no problem if it jumps from core 1 to core 2, but when it jumps to core 3, the L2 cache of the secound DIE (cores 3 e 4) doesn't have data for that process, wich leads to performance loss.

Things will get a lot worse mixing physical cores and logical cores on Nehalem. Imagine if the OS schedules two heavy processes for the two logical cores of the same physical core...

Thank you for the details. The multiplier way should produce an bigger overvolt than the offset way.

Can be you have C1E enabled in the bios. That caused such behaviour here under linux. One core always jumped from c1e to p-state-0 and not p-state-1. So all cores ran at maximum voltage.

If you want better power consumption, use CnQ with tweaked p-states.

The new BIOS brings the C1E option, but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm happy that AMD is a decent option now. This Jetway costs only $ 110 and a good X3 costs little over $100.
Where a good P45 board is about $150 and a good Core 2 Duo (like the E8400 E0) is almost $200.

And overclocking K10 is way more fun than doing pointless high FSB on Intels. :)

HOw is the Jetway treating you still?

OK.... Got mine yesterday. and wouldn't you know it, its dead..

Will not boot, or even POST. Just gets FF in the port 80 display and hangs. No video. Tried multiple types of memory and processors... tried clearing CMOS, tried standing on my head with one toe facing mars.

DOA, oh well. Just my luck

As far as impressions go, it is a REALLY nice piece. Super clean design, terrific heatsinks and really clean layout. I'm gonna RMA it and try again

The packaging is very austere, which is nice, although the box is a little cheesy, with "Hummer Studio" all over it. There is an awesome clear piece of the board in one corner that has a little horse on it that lights up!

Also, it has the best selection of ports I've ever seen. It has 8 (eight) SATA ports (6 regular and 2 eSATA). 3 Video (HDMI, DVI, VGA). Tons of USB, on board CMOS clear, start and reset switches. A really nice product, just hope I can get a good one.

well anyways FF on the led screen on board the HA06 similar board I got has that and that shows up when it gets in to XP.

what Power supply are you using ? and also have tried boot it with just cpu and memory in it the IGP usually defaults to D-sub after clear cmos.

Yeah, such life with Jetway, or more precisely, tier 2 AMD board makers, it's always a hit or miss thing. I do hope it will be successfull, i don't want another Soyo or Epox in the making -though the economy is certainly not that promising.

Yeah, thanks... FF is the correct runtime port 80 code, it is supposed to show up when the BIOS hands over control to the bootloader.... I hope to get it when I get it to boot.

I may try swapping some other components to see what happens, did some CPUs and memory, no power supplies yet, but will do that this afternoon. I may try another video card and try and bypass the IGP...

I agree, although I had some GREAT Epox boards that were indestructible!!! The board itself looks as high quality as any Gigabyte I've ever owned. Looks awesome actually. Just may have gotten a dud, which has happened with every board manufacturer I've ever tried

Got it WORKING!!! hooah :up:

It didn't like the CPUs I was using.... Have no idea why, but I don't care ATM....

Tried a A64 4100 and it popped to life!!!

Now, on to testing

OK. Been testing for the past 5 hours. This is TRULY a nice board without a doubt. I have my lame-oh 9950 in it and it will actually boot the blasted thing at 3.2 (x16). Neither the Asus M3A79-T nor the godforsaken Gigabyte 790GP-DS4H would do that. My 9950 sucks and has spastic cores on 3 and 4.

I've had very little problems testing it actually. It behaves the same every boot, unlike that which we do not speak (the Gigabyte ds4h, henceforth, the devil board). My Asus M3A78-T also behaves nicely as well (as does the awesome Asus 79-T).

Several things have already impressed me.

1) Hybrid Crossfire works, unlike the devil board.
2) ACC works, unlike the devil board.
3) The board boots the same every time, unlike the devil board
4) It has typos in the BIOS, like our friends at DFI, its charming
5) It will boot at 3.2Ghz (16x@1.45v) over and over again with my lame 9950
6) It is a clean design, simple, but has all the goodies
7) It is not the devil board
8) It is not slow, like the devil board
9) Jetway is a small company, and they still seem to be able to fix the BIOS...AND tell us what they did, unlike the devil board
10) The network adapter seems to always work, unlike the devil board
11) I need serious help :rofl:

For those that are interested. Total kit is Jetway HA07 Ultra, 9950 BE (140Watt), $9 cheapo coolmax power supply, Asus radeon 3450 in Hybrid Crossfire, 2 x 80GB seagate SATA1 drives in RAID 1, Thermalright K8 cooler (way too small, but cost 8 bucks at micro center on closeout), OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 1066 memory (ganged). If it survives the night on Everest torture test, I will replace the devil board with the Jetway and feed it with adult components, instead of the cheap junk I'm testing it with.

Anyway, I will continue to test and report

Now, i'm even more interested to this baby, you such a tease, nanohead ! :D

I'm might be doing the Deneb review on this board, it's nice. If only i could get someone at Jetway to send me a BIOS that oficially supports the CPU.

ECS 790GXM-A
Biostar TA 790GX
Jetway 790GX ultra

Looking for feedback if anyone can offer, the prices on these boards are really good, s far leaning to Jetway or the ECS
Appears peeps like this Jetway and I just wanna get to 3.5-3.7

I ultimately had some problems with the board and returned it to Newegg. I would never say its a bad board, its actually quite nice. Performance was very good, and the quality is terrific. I had 2 bad firmware flashes, and the Jetway RMA process is neanderthal to say the least, and I just got turned off by the company (in the US at least), not the product. If they had a half decent RMA process, I would have kept trying.

Well board sounds great but obviously lacking support think I will go w the ECS unless I get more feedback. The Asus is nice but too mcu for me to spend as I got a sealed 920 for 160 shipped so I wanna build the base cheap after selling off a dfi p35 t2rs and xeon 3220. Not sure how much of a gain I will see I just wann play with some new gear

Newegg has refurb Asus for $90 US, I got one a while back and it was brandy new! No regrets at all.... ECS is spotty (personal experience). Biostar has been quite good lately too on the affordable scale

My past experience with Boistar has been bvery good I had a TA770 and the 45 intel board and both were great. Newegg refurb is a crapshoot but reviews on the ECS board by users have been solid....

the board is quite stable and actually performs very well for its price. I have my x3 720 on it and I was able to reach 3.7 just by bumping up voltage to 1.5v and upping the mult. So far so good.

The thing that I like about this board is the cpu temp led display. I have had issues with AOD, coretemp showing temp ~8-10C below actual temp.

You should also consider foxconn a79a-s 790fx. Its about 180CAD from newegg.ca after 100 savings.
