guys, i know u can't accept the pink color on ur motherboard
this UD5 version is close to retail. here is a new looking of Gigabyte
mobo, i know somethings things could be changed, if u do enough efforts.

Ooooooh, Aquamarine style, looks pretty swish. Should have changed the orange for navy though and kept a uniform style.
That's very nice looking. Dark navy or something would look better than the orange, but then again it wouldn't be a Gigabyte board if it didn't have odd colours :p:
Board layout is quite nice, can't see anything that jumps out and hits me as OMGWrong.

Nice color... i want to add something (not about the color). It's more better if GIGABYTE use nut & bolt to tighten the heatsink rather than using plastic screw.

This board certainly have the "cold" feeling to it. While it's not the very best layout out of X58 boards I've seen I'd prolly pick this one if I'd have to choose one due to UD3 & it's 2oz copper layer alone. Oh and 10 angled sata ports is soooo unlike Gigabyte, nice.
I for one think that board looks flawless. :shocked: I would love to have it right now and play around with it. People are just really picky today it seems. It's not like you would be using those slots no? If you throw a video card or a sound card in there would the orange slot shine through it or what? BTW the spacing is perfect imo and I really like that 4xPCIE slot in that position. Good job hicookie! :clap:

Indeed a lot of nice boards are poping out on the market , this aqua color is lovely still FDD conecntor in these days ? heck even I bought an USB FDD for flashing and stuff ... to many connectors crumped together ... not good
Hicookie, I have no idea how much you are allowed to say, but is all that cooling really necessary? I mean x58 "lost" some major parts that where moved to the cpu, so heat shoud not really be a issue, or am I completly wrong there and x58 runs hot for some reason?
Board looks good, hope it will perform, but ide and floppy should die allready.

It's nice that they made PCI-E 4x slot open-ended, but it seems that NB cooler pushpin would obstruct any cards longer than 4x.
Cut the top of the pushpin off? Anyways--I like the board. What's the second controller for SATA (the white ports)? IT looks like a very nice board otherwise: I don't have THAT much a care about colors of the boards--I don't like windows on my cases, as I prefer large fans there instead.

we are going to have huge problems insulating these and other nehalem boards....can we at least have a clean gap around the CPU socket....even if just but 4mm or whatever

Very nice looking but I agree, kill those orange slots.
Someone suggested gray and blue and gray go well together.
The only other thing I'd suggest is pull those plates off that say Gigabyte as I'm old school and not happy unless I can screw a small fan in for cooling.

I see they finally turned the SATA ports 90 degreed which is a very nice addition, just wished they would have started this trend earlier with the P45's. Other than that, I like the new color scheme, looks great! But why keep IDE??

I'm one of those people who think Floppy and IDE connectors need to go drink bleach and die. I also think the same thing of PCI slots (not PCIe, but PCI), but I think less people agree with me on that one :p:

I think the FDD is at least still required. Other than that, they probably have the IDE though whatever the SATA controller they will be using (those 4 SATA slots--the "odd ones" :p:). That's fine with me. Not everyone will have that type of money, though yes many will. Some of us want the best & cheapest possible--our budget may be enough for a Nehalem setup, but it may not be enough to replace older IDE drives, ever optical drive we own, and PCI TV cards, sound cards, NICs, &c. And some of us don't want to--if I owned that much already, I'd prefer to bring it to the machine that would use it most. I use a floppy drive (combined cleverly with a memory card reader) and an 80GB IDE hard drive, in addition to my SATA DVD burner and 320GB SATA hard drive. Some of those components WILL be transferred to another computer. I have another 8.4GB hard drive that will be fine for Server 2003 or something, and this 80GB hard drive will be fine for Server 2008. Of course, once I build those rigs. :p: (Sossaman and Nehalem 2P?)
Wow, this board's colour scheme is second only to DFI's luminous green and black.

Nice looking board, I'd like to see more internal USB headers tho. With 2x2 as it is now you always get into trouble with cases that have 4 front USBs (like the TJ07, Lianli Armorsuit and many more popular cases), as they don't leave a space for T-Balancer, Aquaero and cardreaders. Ditch one internal firewire to make room for a 3rd USB header maybe, most people don't need them anyways.
I also agree on what most people here already said:
- let go of IDE and FDD
- get rid of plastic pushpins, they give everyone the creeps
- like Dinos said, can we pleae get some clearance around the socket?
I have no idea how I'd get this mobo properly insulated for 24/7 phase operation. Which is what we do here for our main rigs :D
So right now, I probably wouldn't buy this mobo due to the lack of clearance around the socket. Which isn't only a Gigabyte problem I am well aware, let's hope DFI can do better there like with the X38/48 series of mobos.
push pins for high-end boards is just not right. :D other manufacturers got rid of it for their top toys. Im pretty sure Gigabyte can do the same.

I love having a floppy drive. It's not time for that to die until windows7 at least. SOME of us need a floppy on rare occasions (I hate floppies, but once in a blue moon its absolutely crucial). And the usb floppy drives that emulate as floppies are NOT compatible with all motherboards, before you ask (eg: the new intel DG45's).
For the love of god keep the floppy. You can remove the HDD Ide drive though, they aren't necessary to install raid drivers or use an emergency recovery disk. Ta.
As a side note I'd like to know why everyone is complaining that its there. If they pull it off, it's not going to make it cheaper for you. And if they leave it, it won't make things cluttered unless you put a floppy cable into it... which it seems that none of you are going to do anyway. So what's the drama?
Actually i'd rather have the IDE and floppy there, comes in handy quite often. With a floppy i can recover a bad BIOS flash even with the screen totally blank, and sometimes when you run RAID with a SATA DVD-drive the stupid board thinks the DVD-drive is a HDD (DFI & ASUS :slapass:)
So i don't mind the IDE and floppy sticking around.
The main benefit of removal would be freeing up more space on the PCB for the other components.
Long live the floppy drive! :D Keep it handy for some emergencies. :D
That motherboard's already filled--little reason to add much more. Heck--I'm happy to see two Firewire headers on-board, but I'd like to see two Firewire headers plus two Firewire ports on the rear panel, in addition to four USB headers on-board. I dislike the placement of the audio header though--it should definitely be moved, perhaps to where SYS FAN2 is. Many of us could use the second PWM header next to CPU FAN or somewhere more accessible. I agree with ditching the plastic pins for heatsinks--they need to go. The last thing I think should go is the audio connector for IDE optical drives: it's old, it's antiquated, and by the looks of it, it's unnecessary. Gigabyte included a second SATA controller it seems, and they're not known for FUBARing ODDs with RAID.

price looks good on the EX58 Extreme -> 265€, still only listed in a few shops, so i expect that the price drops down to somewhere around 240€ (same price as the X38/X58 where).

Ditch the ide/floopy, change orange to blue color and add S775 mounting holes. This would be a close call for my first x58 board then.
