Have you tried the mod to enable the rest of the cache?
Nice o/c btw :)
This is the second thing I'll do with those two after I found out where's the MAX for each of them.... just to check if the cache is all good will there be a penalty in the MAX clock, when I'm using 256k L2.Quote:

I have a 1600 that will do 2.4GHz w/ 1.9v and crappy cooling.
Right now I have it doing a distributed computing project at 1.7v and 2250 WITH the L2 mod(for the extra 192k L2 cache).
So for $42 delivered, I basically have an XP that'll do at least 2.4GHz.
A couple of us have been playing with these over here...
http://forums.teamphoenixrising.net/...threadid=18244
yeah but the cost is so close to the 1700xp's that other than the fun of being able to mod it into the real mc coy the chips are just too close in cost for me to actually buy one.... but deff a killer deal and verry interesting indeed :toast:
later perc,
with the right cooling somebody is going to crack a 100% overclock on the 1400's some day
That may be true for USA, but here in Bulgaria the good 1800+ ( there ain't no 1700+ anymore ) are 60$+.... so one 1.4GHz for 42$ is quite a deal.... and even bigger one if the L2 cache is all good :)Quote:

later perc,
It's really good to see that those Durons like high voltages and MHz.... It's a shame, that I can't have more than 1.75V with that A7N8X Dlx... but hell - that little puppy will go in my main system with some EPoX ( or sumthin' else ) mobo and the P4 goes to the testing system.... don't need so much of a power when watcing movies or listening to a MP3s ;)
"....And then the Duron became an AthlonXP..." :toast:
Well.... now it's time to test if I can reach the same o/c speed as I was reaching before the L2 mod...
....... and back to 2300MHz
I might get one of these for a bit of cheap fun, plus I just killed my test duron in a very stupid way (dont ask, i was clumsy)
It might be fun to try and get a 100% overclock from the 1.4gig :D :D
Im also working on a Vmodd for very high (and hopefully stable) vcore, a cheap duron will make a good guineapig.
Not to mention that If you get good core with a working L2 cache up to 256k it will make a good Tbred ;)Quote:

my results:
cpu1:
1600
MIXIB 0336 TPMW ---> 2200 1.85v on air
cpu2:
1600
MIXIB 0336 TPMW ---> 2300 1.90v on air
Where is the guide for modding these?
Looks like I'll be getting one of there :)
they look like fun.. but for $5 more i think ill graba second 1700. already have this one at a 1gig OC on air.. so i think i may test my luck on a second. if its better this 1700 goes to a friend for $45 :)
and the world goes round.
http://www.ctgilles.net/images/duron...2388-cpu-z.jpg
I noticed the newest going better, this is an old one... Still one with a short core :(
I'll be getting me one, and will threat him with 2.3+ V and peltier cooling!
I was going to get one but changed my mind because they don't overclock any better then a Barton and even if they are cheaper then a XP2500+ they are at the same time slower because of less cache.
It won't even POST like that :rolleyes:Quote:

Ever heard of the cachemod? If you're really lucky you'll be able to mod your modded xp-duron to barton, now that'd be xtreme :DQuote:

Why wont it post at 2.3V?
Almost none of the 1.5V chips like it, I found my chip went higher on 1.85->1.95v then on 2.3v
I have a modded 1,4 GHz. It did run Prime95 for sevral hours at 2,05 GHz with 1,92 V and VapoChill PE cooled, but anything higher was no good. I'd like to try higher voltage, but my mobo won't.

hello their,
nice find by the way
Could I ask you for some information??
What id like to know is what is the stepping on your chips?
We could see if the part of the wafer the cores are taken off is at the edges.
What this tells me is that there maybe from the 'worse' part of the wafer but seeing the silicon process is reaching its maturity we will be getting better chips at later dates (assuming that the process is as 'pure' as previous wafers)
I c sum info has been posted the more the better.
So peeps with these durons please provide information.
Cheers

So all I have to do is cut that one L2 bridge?Quote:

Can I use a pencil for that?
Nope, you'll have to use the "old" Palomino/Tbred metod.... with the silver conductive ink.
Can you do it with a pencil drawing it like a inverted C, i think that would workQuote:

Now i've a question to ask : i can get a duron 1.4 for 42€, the 1.6 for 44€, a tbred 1800+ DLT3C JIUHB for 82€ and finally a barton 2500+ AQZFA 0336 for 110€. Which one would give me the best perf? (something better than my actual cpu)
I have one that'll do 2500MHz watercooled 1.775V :)
Wanna buy it? :D (PM)
I'd buy the Durons just to play with, the Barton for my desktop (I like more cache, although it doesn' t actually is THAT faster :)
(have one that does 2400MHz at 1.93V (PM me)
Just tested mine with low voltage and 2GHz at 1.45v is pretty nice. ;) (and that's with 256k L2 btw)

the pencil alone will not create a good enough connection for the CPU to think that the bridge is closed.. you'll need silver paint for sure.
Like can I use AS3 or is this something from like a hobby shop?
how bout some tape and wire. :D
It never worked i've tried it a few timesQuote:

My first one wasn't too good either, did only 2G @1.8V
Haven't been able to test the second one cause my psu has some problems...
For the price you can buy a few and test them
Here some benchies of my watercooled Duron1400....

Nostra try to unlock the remaining cache and tell us how it does oc then?
Yeah....I will receive this week the unlocking silver... I can get it in my hometown...but it will cost me 22euro. And that is the half of the costs of my cpu. Now I will receive it for 4 euro's, only have to wait a few days.
Nostra did you got the conducting ink from the net? Where?
No a inet"friend" is sending it to me. Will cost me 3 euro's. Don't know where he is getting it from....
you got a bucket of ice on that yet Nostra. if not you're only a small jump from a 100% overckock. very nice indeed
Just straight watercooling with water of 25 degrees...
D-tek Whitewater waterblok..
What are your cpu temps with that beast?
45 degrees stressed..
Are these amazing chips available in the US? if so, where? TIA
i did to one of my cpu's the l2 mod.
i used pencil and draw a "C" at the last l2, and it worked
Has anyone tryed to unlock a duron with the new cpu pcb (p3 alike)? I know the L2 trick works for the old cpu pcb. I have tryed it 2 times now...but it won't work...
Well.... after a week or so my CPU magically died..... a reboot and after that..... nothing.... changed the cpu and everything is up and running now.... RIP.
I have modded my cpu and the 192kb extra cache works! I can also clock the cpu as high as before.... Here a simple compare. The first bench is with 64kb cache and the other bench is with 256kb cache.

I'm burning in a mod'd Duron1400 at 2.52GHz and 2.00v atm. Not bad but I was hoping for a little more at that voltage.
Tested my second duron 1600 a bit, did 205*10 @ 1.55V, but then my nf7-s bios chip died...
hoping to get a chip of a friends broken nf7-s this week...
mean time, xp2100+ power
here a little pifast bench with my Duron 1400

Hi NoStra,
Your post if of very good timing! :)
I have a friend who is at a computer fair right now and is looking at some of these chips...
Could you tell me how you did the mod with the new pcb??? My friend says the pcb is alot different to the old xp and keeps mentioning that the 'channels' are differnent if that makes any sense to you.
The chips he has seen their are MIU...0338's, new style pcb. I need information as soon as possible so i can ring him so he can buy the chip.
Basically how did you mod the chip and do you have any more info regarding steppings and if chips which are more new are similar in performance to the older siblings.
hope you are still abt
thanxs
mongoled
Get the MIXIB chip...mine is a week 0335 Z
The L2 can be modded very easily. Just fill the lasercut with silverglue, and you are done!
It worked for me
Thanxs 4 the very fast response,
I need 2 confirm something with you. In your post u wrote 'silverglue' do u mean 'silverglue' or superglue???
If u mean superglue then im assuming this is the same mod that we had to do to the old tbreds to unlock the multipliers.
If you did mean silverglue, what is this?? Ive nver come across silverglue be4.
Also there only seems to be MIU...0338's their on new pcb so I hope my friend takes a chance to try one of these out. But like i said i definatly need confirmation on what i discussed above.
thanxs
mongoled
Any electricaly conductive glue should work fine. All you have to do is fill the laser pit between the two bridges with conductive stuff and it should unlock the rest of the cache.
Silverglue...not superglue.. MIUHB 0338 should do also great clocks I think...Quote:

Hi! Im gonna buy a new duron on monday, should i buy a 1.4 or a 1.6? Im thinking of selling my 1700+ so I can buy on of each....
It shouldnt matter if you can verify the steppings. Worse comes to worse and it sucks or you get a Applebred "A", unlock MP and the rest of the cache and sell it as a MP :D
Im gonna buy it in a local store so that wont be a problem... Guess Ill buy a 1.4 then...
Just buy the one with the best stepping.... there is no difference between 1400 and 1600....
There is only 1 thing you have to know....NEVER buy a MIUGA stepping. That is a Tbred A core.
MIXIB is the best stepping huh?
Don't know...but mine is :) I haven't seen anyone going faster than me with watercooling...
Cant wait until my 1.6 gets here in a couple weeks from newegg :D I guess I'll have to do the L11 voltage mod to give it the full 1.85v of my kr7a without vcore mod.. although I might just do the vcore mod, lol.
Ok, then Ill get a MIXIB if I can ;). And I will get my watercooling this week to...
I'm actually giving up my AIUHB XP2100 for the 1.4 I'm testing now. The person who I'm building the computer for will be pleased he's getting the "better" CPU and I'm pleased this "sucky" Duron is cruising at 2.52GHz. ;)
Please, can you tell me where did you buy it from? TIA ;)Quote:

Thanks taco! :toast:
yeah, I saw the one at NewEgg but I wasn't sure because the pic posted here (first page) it's brown and NewEgg shows it green. Are you sure they're the same steppings?

Aaah, I got my new 1.4 now :). Just started to post here and some other places. Im running @ 166x11 with 1.5 vcore right now, gonna test higher now...
Has someone tried with the 1.6?
Tried a 1.6 and had it running 2.41GHz at 1.95v with a SLK800a and 7v Tornado(which is actually pretty quiet) in about 20 minutes. ;)
I didn't try any higher but it seemed to do that without breaking a swet really. I would have liked to try it under some water but I had to ship it out in a system I was doing.
Wouldnt happen to remember the stepping, would you Jeff?
For the Duron1600, MIXHB0331 was the only thing I wrote down.
I just got mine from NewEgg and as usual I got screwed... :cussing:
They sent me a MIRGA0337VPMW
/edit: I didn't mean NewEgg screwed me, I was talking about my freaking luck... :brick:
oh wow, that sucks eq..
i hope to gawd i dont get an A stepping.
Like I said.. MP + cache bridge mods and sell them as 1900+ MPs to local people for good prices (for a mp ;))
//edit: "them" being applebred "A"s.
I asked for an exchange already so hopefully I'll get a newer one next time around...
Well, my testing temporarily ends right now due to lack of cooling... It started swetting 4 real @ 166x12.5 with 1.65v... MIUHB stepping...
Yeah nice Oc all with this :) Put it some Prometia and tested it ???:D mabe 2.8-2.9Ghz with good stepping
I'll some to your house with my cpu and my frineds nf7-s 2.0 then ;)
she just arrived :) stepping is MIUHB 0336VPMW
bbl with results :D
Give use some results! :) I think you will end @ 2500Mhz.... Most MIUHB's will end there with watercoolingQuote:

I don't know how you guys do it.
I just received the replacement chip and they sent me a MIRGA again.... :brick:
so far, priming at 12x200 at 1.75v :D not too bad. this is what a slk-947u and a extremely quiet 92mm fan.
im using the 19 bios, im not sure if thats the best to use for fsb overclocking, i have the hacked d10 bios sitting here.. would it be worth a go?
also the power supply i got is giving me some pretty low rails on the 12v (11.55 under load) its a sparkle 400w. its got 5 pots in it, but im not sure which is to adjust which..
so far so good, but theres definitely more.. :toast:
sry about not posting a screenshot.. here you go, prime 95 stable at 2.4ghz on aircooling (slk-947u) :toast:
now if i could only find the cache mod for this kind of duron..
http://www.dynasty.1337clans.com/php...php?pic_id=169
Just fill the L2 bridge with conductive paint. Not really much to do. Like I said in the PM, I just scratch a tiny bit off the laser cut to make sure the conductive paint makes contact with both sides of the cut. I don't think you need to do this step but I do it. ;)
Here's a post with a picture:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...798#post241798
(I realize yours is the new package, but the L2 is basically the same)
ok heres a picture of the new package duron :
http://images10.newegg.com/productim...104-159-01.JPG
vs
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postid=241798
also you notice the brown one has the first L2 bridge cut. the green one that i have has all the gaps closed but the last one. and if you look closely it looks like the L2 bridges and the L9 bridges are one, from the little gold dot. theres only 1 in between them.
there has to be a pin mod out there somewhere..
You have the one in the first picture right? Just fill the last L2 "gap" (ie laser cut) with conductive paint. Don't worry about the "dots" that are hidden under the package now. Like I said, I scrap a tiny, tiny bit off the "gap" and fill it with conductive paint. (btw, I use a small magnifying glass when I do mine)
ya, i give the L2 mod a try. filled the gap in with some as3, didnt work. i thought i did it quite good too.. still looking for a pin mod for the cache mod, if there is one. if anyone knows id really appreciate the info.. :toast:
heres an update, this was a quick run to see how high it could go. was able to get some small benches in.. ;) 1.9vcore
