Just got C2Q 9550 C1

This is my first chip that cost over $200 ($279) I bought it new retail from Frys.com

So far priming at 3.8ghz 448x8.5 at 1.25v, VID is also 1.25v pack date 9/04 and is probably one of the last C1's

So I determined my E8400 was a dud, for example my E8400 needed 1.3v to prime at same 3.8ghz and it would go up to about 70c at this setting, priming this at 56c and I have 2 more cores! Only problem is I can't push it very far due to my board sucking I don't even have gtl adjustment

So as a recap 3.8ghz 1.25v priming so far, not too bad is it? Seems like a 4gig chip if my board would let me :yepp:

Doesn't seem to shabby so far. Only have had chip for couple hours. IBT using 4GB of ram. Haven't really tried lower volts

Looking really good; this is the best chip in the price to performance ratio right now. I don't know why more people aren't running them.

I have a C1 Q9550 and OC'd it quickly and easily to 3.4 GHz at 1.144 volts. Given this low voltage it seems it has a ton of headroom for OC'ing further. I'm sure that the EO's are better but the C1 I have performs like a champ.

Thanks! It's weird how this chip reacts to crashing/OC in comparison to my E8400. I can prime as low as 1.22'ish volts (actual) at 3.8ghz but if I lower volts even one notch it BSOD's instantly. Also, I did IntelBurnTest for 6hrs using 7gigs of ram no errors but Prime blend and OCCT mix errored within a few min. Also my little 500w Fortron PSU starts squealing with this Quad, but I will replace it when it starts crashing :up:

I can actually almost get it stable at 471x8.5 for 4ghz with most settings on Auto but Prime blend crashes instantly and comp is unstable! CPU primes fine though. Even setting MCH from auto-1.2v-1.5v makes zero difference in stability and this board has no GTL adjusts

So far I think im stuck at a stable 3.8ghz

anyone need a E8400?

edit: little confused, I ran OCCT mix for 4hrs and IntelBurntest using 7gb of ram for 6hrs both had no errors but prime95 blend gets error in 10min

This is so strange, I cant get it prime blend for more then 0-30min but IntelBurntest runs 6hrs, OCCT ran 4hrs with no errors every stability test is fine but blend sometimes will error right when i hit the button. Lowering the FSB is the only thing that makes it work and no voltage or any settings makes it any more stable at at 448x8.5

Do you game if you do then game for X amount of hours or whatever the main reason u bought the chip for. If it doesnt hiccup or crash who cares about prime

Meh sometimes i do, right now just doing lots of homework and multi tasking. Hasnt crashed, yet. But the fact that it crashes right when i hit start sometimes kinda freaks me. I'd say its doing pretty good though clocking a quad 448x8.5 and 4x2gb of ram on default volts. Just too bad more volts isnt fixing this prime issue

The reason I may want Q9550 even though i7 is coming is I expect high prices (on mboard and chip and ram) on the i7 ,
so maybe for now (2years or so) the Q9550 is best ? wot do u all say ?

Confused too. Linx and IBT produce higher temps but run with no errors. A quick prime and fails within 12 minutes but lower temps :ROTF:

I decided to get prime stable instead.

Well heres 4ghz sorta. I can prime small FFT down to about 1.3v but board isnt stable. Probably doesnt help I have 8gb ram. 4ghz quad 8gb sounds so nice!

Could be, mines made on the 15th week of 08. I've got 8GB ram too :D mine doesn't want to clock well but with 1.28v I'm stable at 4GHz.

ok ya maybe they arent, but def cousins . Mine seems like it would be stable at similar volts though.

I got Prime95 blend stable though. Added 100ps to MCH CLK SKEW and I pass 15min and keep restarting and it keeps going. Before I sometimes would fail instantly

Looks like your chip can be stable at that voltage, but your psu is having difficulty keeping up. PSU upgrade is definately recommended. I had similar issues until added a second psu and found instant stability at an even lower vcpu.

If it's faulty, but a fully working HX520 can easily handle a quad and normal peripherals.

It depends how many peripherals you have hooked to the 12v rails. What is the max amperage of the HX520?

im willing to be your cpu is not why it crashes sometime, i bet it's that 500w psu, or even that P45, the msi budget P45's sre ok but not meant for real high oc's the P45 platinum or diamond would be good fro high oc's

Guys I didn't mean the pc restarts, I meant I manually restarted prime95 to put it on the same prime test over and over where it would always fail. Wouldn't mind having a new PSU though

a little off topic but I notice you have a 32inch monitor.
I'm running a 32inch but when I use the hdmi my colors are to bright and the A/R is wrong , and I cant correct it with display settings, even forcing 1080i or 1080p wont help:shrug:
Using the PC input and the display is 100% Any ideas as to the problem with my display?

I find alittle more PLL will get prime stable
I need 1.575PLL for 4.0GHz stable

Seems like TV monitors are a hit and miss hooking up to a PC. Mine works fine with HDMI but VGA or DVI and it doesnt display red. Your just using the little adapter that converts DVI to HDMI?

if that board has a setting for FSB vref (i am not sure but FSB VTT could be the same), use it, its your friend, it will help you stablize things.
the DFI P45 baords have it and i run it with a setting of 23, rgone over at dfi forums uses 2C for high fsb clocks.
now how that translates into real voltages i have no idea, but it can and does help.

according to the DFI manual it says it will let you overcome FSB walls.

I have VTT FSB but taking it off "auto" just makes it more unstable. I tried from 1.2-1.4

Wish I had that PLL voltage sounds like that could help

VTT can overvolt so much on auto setting that you should better set it manually

Actually you know whats funny? VTT is helping. I can set my MCH voltage all the way down to 1.1 and my VTT needs about 1.4v

I actually was priming the board at 4ghz with 1.1v MCH and 1.4v VTT

I think my MCH doesn't need much volts and it was getting insanely hot to the touch but bringing it down to 1.1v makes it not get hot and its more stable...but now raising VTT is helping but only to 1.4v. But damn almost had a quad 471fsb with 8gb ram and $100 board

Right now im looking at about 1.25v 3.8ghz 55c prime and 60c IBT with 1.4vtt

1.40 would be the max for that chip.
I'm running 1.365(acutal) for 8.5x471.

What are your other volts? This only needs 1.1v mch and is the lowest I can go for 448fsb. Raising the MCH does nada. Man I wish I could get 471fsb, but maybe this is the max for this board

Also, whats your guys temps? My room is just average room temp been running prime blend for little over 2hrs 3.8ghz around 1.25-1.3v and 60c

1.3-1.35 around 55c
1.2-1.3 around 50-55c

I'm on water , maybe 20c ambiant temps are 29-32-33-28 idle
