Good news if true, thanks for posting this
We see B3 can reach 3.3-3.4Ghz on 4 cores with a good SB750 motherboard.
Let's see the less power hungry(2 vs 4 cores) B3 dual core top and maybe even exceed that.
Finally AMD is covering almost the entire desktop range with K10,except for single cores.Good product differentiation ,just needs to be seen what prices will be with these chips(German sites states a 45W TDP @ 2.3GHz)
Excellent.
Awaiting reviews that pit it against the E7x00 and the 4850e.
well this is unexpected. Interesting to see a dual core with shared l3 cash, i translated the site... but google translate didn't do the best of jobs. Are these kuma's native, as in, are they an actual processor designed to be a dual core, or are they a phenom with 2 cores disabled? The low clocks seem to be indicative of the latter, but then again, they could be going for the efficient power market with a 45w tdp.. if they can get the clocks up a bit, and they are true dual cores, with a tad lower tdp these would be great as a mobile chip :)
Found some early entry at geizhlas.at:
Holy banana, allready were waiting for 9950 be 125w version and dfi junior matx mobo but both of those havent yet appeared, but now this... gotta test this ge 6600 if possible to get soon... two less cores higher change to oc further ... and 45 w TDP IMPRESSIVE!
With an 11.5x multiplier, it is doubtful that these CPUs will overclock better than a 9950. I wouldn't expect much beyond 3GHz.
It's nice to see Kuma but I don't see the point of this launch at all. These CPUs will cost more to produce than Brisbane yet given the clocks, will perform much lower - a GE-6600 at 2.3GHz will cost much more to produce than a 3GHz X2 5800+, yet the 5800+ would be faster.
This would be much more interesting if Kuma was launching at 2.8-3.0GHz. The GE-6600 should be a good energy efficient CPU, but in terms of performance it's not going to do much. If AMD wants to price these CPUs competitively, even the GE-6600 will have to be cheaper than Intel's E5200, which costs only $84.
Also the 1.6GHz HTT/NB speed is just killer. I don't understand why the clock needs to be so low - suppose it it is for the energy efficiency, but still, running the cache / NB @ 1.6GHz is rediculous. When you have the NB clock at that speed with Phenom, it decreases memory performance to the point where AMD has no memory advantage over Intel.
What I want to see from AMD is a nice 2.8GHz 95W Deneb that overclocks well and is reasonably priced.
I heard about the 9950 with 125W rating some time ago,but it seems it is coming real soon.Maybe they will launch a 2.8Ghz 140W chip,a last of the 65nm K10s and match this clock with first Deneb(as they said they target not to go slower, frequency wise , with the first 45nm chips compared to 65nm ones).
We need an unlocked BE Phenom X2 chip,be it a 2.5Ghz 65W one.It would be much faster than 2.6Ghz Brisbane and OC practically the same.
What the Sh*t-crap is wrong with AMD? We get 65nm Duallies 6 months after the quad core comes out and they're clocked at 2.3Ghz ??
REMEMBER That you can get an AMD Tri-Core Phenom 8450 for $105 here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103254 which runs at 2.1 Ghz. So I hope I don't see a 2.1 Ghz Dual core for $120...

Found the link,it's official ,AMD just announced the 125W 9950 Phenom BE and new Triple AND DUAL CORE Black edtions!!
http://www.amdzone.com/index.php/new...9950-goes-125w
Maybe this news deserves a whole new thread?I will post it soon,so maybe if it needs, this post can be deleted.
This is great news and proof of AMD's CTI in full motion.Quote:
New Black Editions: 9950 Goes 125W

AMD has announced three new black editions. They include a new Phenom X4 9950 that is 125W instead of 140W. They also will include new triple and dual core black editions.
* AMD Phenom™ X4 9950 Black Edition processors will transition to 125W (same TDP as 9850 Black Edition). This is our highest performance quad core and when paired with the AMD 790GX Chipset, has been getting rave reviews for its over-clocking capabilities!
* AMD will introduce the AMD Phenom X3 8750 Black Edition processor – the first ever unlocked triple core processor!
* AMD will also introduce the new AMD Athlon™ X2 6500 Black Edition (product details & positioning available on September 1, with price announcement). The highest performance dual core we have ever offered – at a great price and it is also unlocked!
Isn't this what one would expect from maturing process tech? It's a great move for AMD no doubt, but you sound indeed a little too happy as if you were affiliated with AMD. More sceptically one could (or should?) venture to say: too little too late.
I don't think it's kuma, unless if kuma is based off agena, because it's got the same cache as an agena core with just 2 cores disabled (2*512 kb l2 per core and a 2mb l3). Besides why else would the clockspeeds be that low unless if amd couldn't get them higher stably? If they are the trash of agena, it would make sense that the top clockspeed is only 2.3ghz. Honestly if it was a new chip with a good bin I'd expect at least 2.6ghz for the black edition since TDP shouldn't be that high with a dual core
About time eh! Why is it clocked so low? I guess its a good replacement for the EE Brisbanes, but surely a 3GHz version to replace the aging top end Windsor X2s would have been better?
informal, you are affiliated with AMD... in mind and spirit. ;)
Dual core 2.3 GHz and 45 W is just as impressive as quad core 2.4 GHz and 95 W.
What do you ecpect? It's the same stepping as usual and a locked multiplier.
Who would buy this?
-If you have a X4 now you wont downgrade to X2, you wait for 45 nm.
- If you have a Athlon X2 you want more from your upgrade than this. You wait for 45 nm.
- If you're about to buy your first AM2+ mobo . . well if you have waited all this time then you can wait for 45 nm too!
This is clearly not the Kuma we have heard about before, not only because it now have L3 cache, but also because it's called Phenom and not Athlon.
It's good that they're dropping the Athlon name (even though it sounds better), because Phenom X2 says it all.
No need to mix up the new product line with old names, it's just confusing.
god did anyone look at what I wrote? I don't think this is the original kuma either, this looks to be a cut down agena (the 2mb l3 kinda gives it away, not to mention power was cut in half at the same clockspeed)
Yeah, it's a dual core K10 as should be, but it was supposed to be called Athlon X2, according to some sources.

AliG, you're right.
Actually the roadmaps from mid 2007(long before K10 launched) contained a Dual Core Stars(K10) cores with 2MBs L3.There was a version without L3 listed but we never knew if it was a K10 core or planned Brisbane ,since its code name was Rana(not Kuma) and it didn't support HT3.0(this last feat. i'm not quite sure, but think it was HT2.0 only-so Brisbane).
1.6Ghz Hypertransport is not impressive at all. AMD really needed to make their specs exceed any Athlon X2 to make these worth while. I suppose they're just for the low power, low end market though.
what about availability of kumas? i hope this is not another paper launch. and yeah, native dual core would sound much better (and probably oc too)
AMD's naming convention is tops in this regard, nothing ambiguous I hope they keep it.
Kuma is something that AMD really needed and it's good to see this come to fruition simply because it helps out where the current bulk of the market really is.... aside from this, the other good news is that it really highlights the utter rubbish Fuad spews:

http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...8298&Itemid=35
NB speed is much more interesting than HT speed, and we have no info on this.
additionally i doubt that amd is going to release a 45W black edition and expect the BE to be clocked at 3ghz min, if the BE isn't clocked at those speeds it is a serious failure :shakes:
Its not what u think it is -.-
I've already had a debate on this with my fellow members. I used to think that Dual core Kumas were Agenas with disabled cores and the first batch may well be.
But true Kuma's are native dual core Phenoms. We know this now because AMD has been sampling them for its Fusion processor due for launch next year, which uses a dual core Phenom.

that's probably a 45nm phenom though, I'm nearly 100% certain that this is just a cut down agena, that's the only reason why I can see the clocks being so low (these are the :banana::banana::banana: bins)
It makes sense to use disabled X4's for X2, since the 45 nm ones shows up soon anyway.
