NEW AMD SuperPi 1m WR LIVE at G|C Germany!!!

Hey guys,

I just returned from one of my greatest trips ever. First of all THANKS FOXCONN, specially Saaya for the invitiation, hardware, food etc. :cool: and OCZ for the support you gave with RAM and a powerfull PSU!

We were able to set a new WR for AMD chips and I hope there are still people that care about :p: :D

AMD PHENOM 9950 on FOXCONN A79-S with 1000W OCZ PSU - LN2

We also benched Quad-Crossfire but as we screwed up the vga drivers for tests with other cards (very strange issue) I couldn't improve the score on the last day with more CPU power - well good enough for full AMD setup ;)

What cooling?, no coldbug?

damn I don't even screened that 4 gig but maybe we have a pic - not sure, think not. ln2 cooled - record day it was around -15 to -20 pot temp. (~-10 speedfan) today with a little bit lower voltage I could do -25 in speedfan. have to test more under cold but it EATS ln2 crazy! dice wasn't good with the pots I had, will try a different on it asap.

Very nice results man, there were alot of people who said 4Ghz would never be broken, it's nice to see them proved wrong.


That Foxconn is still the only SB750 board out over here, and at a ridiculous £200 (give or take) it's holding up alot of people like me who want to see what their Phenoms can do. God dammit give us some decent mobos to play with!!

The voltages are a little scary for me personally, I certainly wouldn't want to run those as everyday settings, but you did inspire me to push my machine a little farther, and it seems I've found a new sweet spot that I can feel comfortable with.. ;)

My 9850BE didn't have problems under FC (-25*C). Unfortunately I don't have mobo SB750 - two probably very good Phenoms 9850BE waiting for it. Poland is underdeveloped country :(

With some mem @ 600 @ 4-4-4-4 could have improved some more your sp1m record

The clock is indeed impressive. However 1M SuperPi score is rather crappy. I get a bit over 18 seconds with my E4300 @ almost 3,3GHz.
I know latest AMD's are crappy for SuperPi, but i've never thought they're so crappy :(

It should not be looked at that way:) Superpi is a good bench for testing when compared to the same architecture but not so good for comparing to the other brand. Its the same as memory bandwith tests, Some just suit Intel or AMD better and are not reflective of real world computing performance.

we really had to fight for that 247HTT 250 would crash 1m the first loop. we are trying to improve that somehow but maybe it needs a new bios first. more htt would be very helpfull for better 1m time.

SuperPi = simply a speed dial in which fast or slow Retards//Advancements can be made and or observerd...

It truely can only be used to test your improvement on a particular system after a tweak has been performed really:D..i would never compare INTEL to AMD for Pi's whole different technology in how the chips speed /latency works...

Last day was fun, we had Foxconn Avenger with E8600 2x4870 LN2 ~5.7gig and on the other side A79-S with 9950 4x4850 running 03 "against" each other.
Intel 83401 - AMD 83447 or sth like that. It was 46 points ahead for the AMD rig that is what I remember for sure. I really was like :ROTF:

if it would be that easy ;) I had 3 different kits but you only have 667/800/1066 for mem and last divider wouldn't work when overclocking. even with my mushkin kit that can do 620 on mars easy it wasn't possible to boot 220 FSB.

Foxconn's board isnt even available here yet sadly, about no single RD790/SB750. It's driving me crazy, Im already waiting for over a month for my new DFI. I even started to think just to order a cheap RS780D/SB750 board just to have a quick look what my Phenom would do.

Problem however is that whenever the DFI arrive it will be very hard to sell the other one since a lot of people buy Intel stuff anyway. And if I could sell it I wouldnt get too much for it anyway:rolleyes:

Ah, nice post there:up:. You're perfectly right there, comparing SuperPI with different architectures is useless. Lets say it's only usefull for the fun trying to get a better score everytime:p:. But well, only takes ~20 seconds so no big deal.

that's insane, hopefully 45nm phenoms will be like this consistantly.

The sad thing is, a stock e8400 will easily spank that pi score. Before you guys go bashing me about this comment, I'm running on an am2 dual system currently and intend to upgrade to deneb because it's much cheaper than going with yorkfield and quite frankly nehalem has not impressed me at all for desktop use. And yes I know pi is not representative of real world performance, just making the comment because I find it both funny and kinda depressing at the same time

Then the question becomes... which is more important; superpi or spec? I can't see a point in saying superpi, but spec ain't too important either. Just a note so not everyone would think about just superpi and forget everything else and get depressed. Those spec results for Intel are depressing.

My superpi-record is with a lousy E2140:D And I've OC'ed... a few AMD chips in the past.

...but I think it's got plenty of charm to have those 20s runs;) The Intel chips stop before they've started:p:

Yes, that was quite funny. :D

I was running FOXCONN Avenger (P45) @ 570x10, memory 5:6 with 6-5-5 and 2x 4870 stock cooled. I got abbout 83.3k in 2k3 in vista and SoF managed to get 83.35k in 2k3 with 4x 4850.

There we made some jokes:

"Your rig is faster than mine."
"Why?"
"It´s already running gt4, mine is still in gt2."

Only disappointing fact was that I couldn´t run cfx on blackops, for what I was prepared perfectly. :( But anyway, it was a nice time and a very nice experience. :yepp:

they sure get hot man, sof said the 9950 was blowing at least as much ln2 as a qx9650 at 5.5g ... well, after all its 65nm vs 45nm... plus k10 gets really really hot if you push up vcore from what ive seen while intel 45nm heat seems to scale more linear and slowly with higher vcore

the sad part is that k10 doesnt care about cold and high vcore...
if theyd scale up to 1.9v and like at least -50 then wed see 4.5 at least i think, maybe 5g...

it worked on the blackops, remember?
it really sucks amd couldnt send us any cards to upadte the bioses to add 4870x2 xfire support... we just bought 2 cards in retail in taiwan and are updating the bioses now :/

but even then, remember what everybody said, ocing 2 4870x2 cards in xfire isnt exactly easy or fun :/ i really hope they improve their ocing support in future when they release new cards...

Yes, right. It sucks that they didn´t send even one card. :down:

Disappointing thing was that there was no blackops on sunday to work with. So I had to run cfx-benchmarks at home (would´ve been cool to show these 137.5k 2k3 and 40.6k 2k5 with stock clocked cards to the crowd).

But anyway, having a "battle" between 2 totally different systems was a lot of fun. And working with Avenger, too (now there has to be a bios with cfx-support for it :D).

Yes, well said. Yesterday I tried cfx and with overdrive I could overclock gpus and memory from card one and only memory from card two. Gpu clocks from card two weren´t set. :down:

Since the beginning ocing crossfire is a pain in the a**.

Hmm sound wierd... Can it still be somethings that hold the cpu back, maybe i need to get one and try it... i want to see a try with high multi like 22 and <-200htt and see if that help with -50c .

I will try 200HTT with as much cold as possible very soon. I still have to take AMD clockspeed record down that's why I was allowed to take the system home :D :D :D (and to buy a 3rd 4870 and do some more 3D, right saaya?! :D :D :D )
but I have the feeling not even one of the Phenom cores I have will do that no matter what I will try. MAYBE 4100 cpuz is possible on the first core but no more. unfortunatly I will not have time this week-end so give me 5 days for some privat things until I fire up that rig again with dice and a different pot ;)

I've always wondered, is there really any reason why amd's l2 is so slow compared to intels? I mean its not like having an l2 is a new thing, I see no reason why they can't get that down to like 4 or 5 ns from 14, that would finally give them the chance at winning a super pi stock record

@albert not measured vdroop at all yet. CPUz is jumping a bit but no idea about how reliable it is on that board.
@xt0m yes I had OCZ in it most of the time just for the 1m I used Mushkin - actually this was partly OCZ booth and they wouldn't have liked it benching mushkin all the time :p: :D

I tried to repeat validation on DICE today but with no luck :( did a little bit here and there but nothing real special. to keep this phenom cool under load with high voltage you really need LN2 - with dice my temps will raise too fast :( did a very quick 32m @3.6gig but no good time. still very satisfied with stability up to 3.7 anyway - past 3.8 it becomes hard with dice.

I made a couple of 4 ghz validations but they are all not working ?????

the foxconn board you used is the real deal i just used the psu calculator and by it you were pushing 400w just from your cpu alone and the 4+1 phase held up ,no wonder it drinks ln2:ROTF:

Hi i'am using the foxconn a79a-s board to it dosen't say at there web site what the power phase set-up is on the board but when looking at the foxconn board to my old DFI LandParty DK M2RS board that has 4 Phase power on it . The foxconn board the power set-up is 1/3 longer about 1/3 more hardware and the heat sink is one the longest i seen for the power set so what every the hell it is i,am thinking it not 4 phase.

i usually count the coils to figure out the phases
