MSI announce its X58 Motherboard Named "ECLIPSE"

Just received the Press release :) and the autorisation to publish such pics.

The first visible change on Eclipse is about it equipped the Socket B (LGA1366) to support the next generation Intel Core i7 processor (codename: Nehalem), also it will replace the current FSB to step further on QPI (QuickPath interconnect) structure to enhance the bandwidth up to 25.6GB/s (twice than FSB1600 standard). -More room around the socket, unlike the ASUS.

Nice!! I've never considered an MSI board before, but this one actually looks good.

After working with P45Platinum and P45D3 Platinum I can say that DrMOS is a good thing. The droop is not very bad, and everything stays pretty cool in the socket area.

and the good part is that you still can desolidarise them from the pcb and make a "Shamino-like" mod :rofl: to have a free socket space !

I don't want tri channel, I want my quad channel! The board still looks very engineering samply. It also looks like the motherboard is now being taken over by RAM slots... And where are the micro boards? :yepp:

And why are they still putting so many PCI slots in there..it's time to move on.

Well huge heatpipes might not be so good. Canucks were pretty hard on the Gigabyte 45 Extreme and said their cooling was usleess and impractical [well duh on the last one]. More copper increases costs too.

I also like Intel's X58 Smackover board a lot, except for one thing and that is the fact that it only features 4 DIMM slots.

I like those little switches very much!
But why two with the power symbol? Only clutters the area and complicates things...

Also any ideas of that little DIP switch labeled "cpu clk1"?

It's probably still an early sample so the symbols on those buttons will probably change, just my guess though.

My brother had one of those. One of its USB ports fried my ipod, and there would be sparks from the USB whenever you would pull a mouse or whatever out of it. Also, it would often shut down after pulling/plugging something into the USB ports.

Then, one day, my brother said one of the USB ports began to output a thick, quick-moving stream of dark smoke. He immediately unplugged the computer, and the motherboard never worked again.

Talk about a fire-hazard. Geez, lucky he was there.

Don't know about MSI after that incident...

This was all after of course about 4-5 years of usage but still...

yes i include the external connectors also, i have at least one external sata device connected to my pc, right now i need a bracket for that which costs me internal connectors and with 6 other sata devices 8 total connectors just dont cut it anymore. ;)

The board has undergone some significant changes since it first appeared at Computex...

- Removed on-board audio
- Changed slot layout (presumably for audio add-in card)
- Removed power connector near first peg slot
- More power phases near X58

nearly perfect PCIE placement, the only problem are the last 2 which should switch places with the 2 PCI. Cause you cant possibly put anything on the last PCIE as it is so close to the usb and case connectors.

Nice... I may seriously reconsider my vow to never buy another MSI board. Hits all the strong points, heatpipe assembly is large, but not obscene, great layout, nice colours. As long as the power circuits are solid under stress... can't see too much wrong with it. Screws instead of push-pins for the heatsink would have been a nice touch, but nothing we can't fix ourselves.

I just hope they don't pull an Asus and make that top PCI-Ex1 slot a sound-card only slot.

This is a very true, I've tried perfecting my cable management so many times, only to find out that I have to pull that one USB cable accross my motherboard. :shakes:

Why doesn't some motherboard manufacturer sit down with a bunch of people from the forum and make a list of all the things that should be included and make damn sure that every one of the points is included.

Look at the updated pics with the D-LED panel. They moved the power over to where you wanted.
