wow thats some nice scaling
maybe they used 8.54 driver??
Very impressive scaling indeed.
Link of the review from Chiphell.
Just what you'd need to power this thing

Surprisingly good scaling... I'm somewhat skeptical, but if accurate, this is great news.
wtf chiphell link is 3870x2
hmm i'll wait for real reviews. I don't trust marketing slides :p:
impressive. it's funny how to begin with the single HD4870X2 has no issues at those insane settings. the second one for current games is a little over the top but this is XtremeSystems and over the top is what we do. however i would wonder how it scales in Crysis considering that game has a nack for bad scaling on new product.
now if we want to talk over the top then we could use 2 of these in crossfireX on a Skulltrail platform loaded with 8GB of RAM. you could run multiple games at once *drools on keyboard*
Those are some ridiculous numbers if true. And I hope so... I have a Rampage Formula lying around and a 30" monitor as well
Glad you tested @ 2560, because to me, that's what this high end is all about. If it can do that well, you can mentally scale it down res/up perf.
Yeah ... my max resolution on my LCD is 1600x1200, so with UT3 at 16x12 with 8xAA and 16xAF and two 4870X2s... :slobber:
I may get a better monitor for 1920x1200, though. And even then, that is way less than 2048x1536 (but still higher than 1080p)!! :yepp:
Over 100% scaling in DMC4 2560x1600.
I am just drooling everytime I see results of this card, but when exactly is it supposed to come out??? im clueless... august????
If they are from AMD then they used a Phenom cpu....:ROTF:
AMD leaked a vantage extreme score of dual 4870X2s a while back, and it was in the X12k range, higher than the one in the OP actually. And they confirmed somewhere that it was with a phenom.
So... with dual 4870X2s and my Q9450 @ 3.7-3.9GHz (PLUS the overclocked GPUs as well)... :slobber:
eXa:
Yeah one of them will run it. But the posted framerates were averages... so 50% of the time it was lower, 50% of the time it was higher. Now if I could get UT3 running at 1920x1200 at max graphics, with 8xAA and 16xAF, and never have the minimum framerate drop below say 80... I'd be set! :D
Very nice indeed, this def. catches my eyes, BUT i can tell you one think, with dual GPU, you get a lower MIN FPS sometimes, but a big increase in MAX FPS, thats why you get a higher avg, anyway thats what i exp. with my 4850 crossfire.
What CPU (especially clocks) are they using?
yeah ^^^^^
super h4x. this is awesome, i'm glad AMD can do this.
Looks promising !
But lets wait for real reviews like xbitlabs does, with min and avg FPS and TONS of games tested.
Do I buy a 4870 now... or wait for the 4870x2.... or buy a laptop.... or buy crunchers.... or..... ahh too many choices...!!! *head explodes*
Well the wait for the 4870x2 is not that long :D
If it ends up scaling like that i will definately buy 2 of them and get rid of my current ones :) So the HX1000 will make sense :D
Would i a quad @ 4ghz for this setup?
Crysis? :D
I have a lacie 22" crt that does 2048x1536. IDK if the hz is 75 or 80 or 85, but man, these cards could do it justice!

Can't do all. Don't have that much. In the near future I'll have ~$500 to play with.
Yes it does run at 60Hz, but I can still feel a difference between say 70fps and 150fps. I've got an LG L2000C. Don't ask me how or why, because I do not know. Don't even care if you believe me or not, but I can feel the difference.
I used to be a firm believer in your train of thought back when I had a LaCie electron19blueIV CRT, and I had access to glorious 120Hz refresh rates, and then I could REALLY see and feel the difference.
When I switched to the LG L2000C, it was kind of painful at first, as I experienced the impacts of going from being pampered at 120Hz to being locked at 60Hz. But eventually, I am able to still tell a positive difference between 60fps and 120+ fps on the L2000C. It's not the same as the electron19blueIV, but there is something funny/out-of-my-grasp-of-knowledge going on here, and it is not placebo.
Very nice. finally, there are some cards that can make Nehalem a bottleneck for the system :D
that vantage extreme score seems awfully sketchy, especially if they were on a Phenom...
Nope, these are actually legit. It will be amusing to watch everybody argue over this, while I sit back smugly and wait for the official release, and you all realize they were real.
Mine tears as well, but I have trained myself to ignore it. I don't even notice it anymore.
Hmmm done with Denab @ 3.5 ghz+ ? or something?
well, still doesn't scale as well as 2, and i still think having more than 2 gpu's doesn't make too much sense, whether it be tri sli or this.
That's a matter of how you look at it mate... I haven't seen an SLI or crossfire setup do close to 80-100 scaling in games... if these are valid ATI did a nice job on their PCB design... hope they can keep it up and translate this power via good drivers for all the games out there...
Can't wait till next week when these monsters are out here...
send a pair to fugger, have him test it out and then ill believe it
Woa
Please
No
...
Economy slow... must save $$$...
Actually too much power even for 2500 res.
hes got a reputation to loose
not good to choose one side, wont be able to play with the goodies from the oher camp (nvidia etc.)
but can it play crysis? :chicken:
lets see if warhead fixes that multi gpu problem
those numbers are impressive, though
There is no Crysis benchmarks? That's strange...
man, that's powerful, and compared to what nvidia initially wanted this will also be very price appealing (especially considering the low cost of 790gx boards for amd users)
Why does every video card thread end up as a Crysis bashfest?
CrossFire didnot work in Crysis ... cause we havent any scores ...
looks like overkill to me, a single 4870x2 will do just fine...
Where are all the Nvidia fan boys(WAR-B, have you seen these scores):bows:. All the same most people finially have something to upgrade. Maybe i will upgrade to HD 4870x2 by the end of the year, so that the price will drop and the beta drivers would have been replaced. Please is something wrong with XS mailing, as i donīt get my daily mails any longer:brick:
NB: Am not an ATI fan boy; I still use an 8800GTS;)
this is XS.... he has made many non bias reviews and I have also seen many posts showing he has in fact used ATI cards just as much he does nVidia... again no bias.....
Im sure if he had a pair of 4870X2s he could really stress test them AND put them up side by side with a pair of 9800GX2s, GTX280s, etc.
so no he has not the king of all independent testers.... maybe just XS... for now :yepp:
Same nonsense, different thread!
The reason people are asking if it can max crysis is because we already have [much cheaper] cards that can max out every other game.
Read until it sinks in
Those results are amazing...if ATi can pull off good drivers and have the support in all games they will be onto another sure winner :)
HD4870X2 is epic, I've not quite found a word to describe the results for the HD4870X2 Crossfire results posted....other than mouthwateringsupercduperframeratepusherFTW.
Not meaning to sound too much like an nVidia Fanboy raining on ATI's Parade but my concern is that you would require your own PowerSub Station to power your PC....but hey....this is XtremeSystems and there are few things more Xtreme than having your own dedicated Power Station ;)
John
Who was it that put a tri-SLI GTX280 rig under ln2 and got a vantage extreme score of X17k? I'd love to see dual 4870X2s under ln2!
I'm not sure it's that bad, especially compared to 3 GTX280's, or maybe even 2.
Is there anything known about its power usage?
Sounds like KP, though i'm sure those 3 280's at stock still got a higher score than this quad-fire result, so i'm not sure ln2 would outperform tri-sli in that test.
Seems like most of those games had playable frame rates with a single card to begin with. I look forward to seeing how well CF scales in more demanding games. The horse power is there, but are the drivers?
hmm... looks like i'll be upgrading again.... cant wait for the reviews...
Looks like ATI will continue to dominate the price/performance levels. That is some damn impressive scaling.
I would push the cards hard and I would be fair, hopefully scaling is what they claim and not epic fail in games like I have experianced before.
We will soon see from independant benchers, we all win from a good price/performance battle in the gpu market.
"Now it is clear what AMD means with Crossfire-X-Interconnect. It is a bidirectional link between two graphic chips with 5 GB/s. The total interconnect bandwidth by HD 4870 X2 is 21.8 GB/s against 6.4 GB/s by HD 3870 X2."

Hang on, is the sideport only in operation with the X2's or is it in use with the regular crossfire bridges as well? I'm also assuming this is heavily driver dependant as well...
I would assume only with the X2s, since the CFBI connection in the diagram would represent the normal crossfire bridge, no? I haven't really kept up with things in depth, but I assume the crossfire bridge is only for transferring completed frames too(seeing how that diagram shows only unidirectional transfers).
If these gains prove to be at all true, I wonder how much of the improvement is from what I suspect would be a lower latency bus with easier addressing versus just the added bandwidth.
Thats quite impressive actually. Three way CFX?
I received 600 plus mails today :) and why the demand for N fanboys ? each makes his own decision on buying a Gfx card.. enthousiasts buy +400 buck cards, but many gamers will go for the medium range cards, others prefer single GPU's, others don't have the PSU to power it, some peeps cases are too small,... the list is endless... it's not all about pure power... many can live with being at 40FPS at their preferred resolution, others need 150FPS...
ATI did one heck of a job here, top notch, competition is nice !!!
"Chiphell seems to have some early numbers on the 4870X2 (& 4870X2 CF) slated for launch next Tuesday. On initial review, looks like CrossFireX scaling is really good (35-104% improvement) with an average of 66% increase over a single 4870X2. Impressive numbers for launch drivers.
We'll keep updating this story as more websites publish their numbers before the official launch."

O. M. F. G.
Look at those speeds at 2560x1600 with 8x AA and 16x AF!!!!
My next pair of cards... I can't wait. Heck, I might not even water cool them.
This might be a nail in the coffin of the GTX280 SLI/TriSLI... I'm eagerly awaiting the clash of those.
Who could have thought that tables will turn so suddenly with RV770.One small chip to rule them all(until RV870 rocks us again :D)
Why would anyone without a 30" monitor need a 4870x2 in place of a 4870 is beyond me.
Why would anyone EVER need two of them is really hard to understand.
All games are for consoles, consoles' graphics chips aren't any better than a 8800GT.
On a PC you've got more resolution and AA/AF, but that's about it. 4870x2 would be roughly 4-5 times faster than consoles' cards.
Hmm even for my 30" monitor one 4870X2 seems enough...Maybe I will start with one and get a second months later. But wait! This is what I said last time with my 8800GTX and then got a second one 3 days later. And looool I have not played more than 6-7 games during the last 3 years.
Are you serious? I think you ultimately answer your own question in more ways than one.
My honest opinion is that two of these wont be enough for me, but I just might have to make due....as usual.
Until I can run EVERY game at the highest concievable quality, without compromise (in game and external configuration) and retain totally fluid frame rates (BARE MINIMUM of 45fps) I wont be totally happy.
Also, all games are NOT for console. Such as most every decent MMO.
Show me a good flight simulator on a console. And dont give me no arcade crap like Ace Combat.
