eXtreme Air Cooling

But thought I would share a couple of vid's of my new babies with everyone :)

Have recently got my hands on four Delta FFB1424UHE spec below:

Am running a dedicated variable voltage PSU will be set at 27v in the end and two 12Amp 24v PWM units which will each control two the the fans in the end...

Anyways they arrived today so took some quick video's (excuse the poor filiming! forgot the tri-pod in my rush to get home)...

OMG WTF! Wow!

Whenever my vacuume breaks, I can turn this on and act like I'm cleaning....

I couldnt stand that noise, sure your getting killer cooling potential but your losing a few ear hairs as well.

Damn, I'd probably need a new PSU :D

Phew....right now can't find a UK supplier but IMO i'd prefer the one's I did find. As long as you can accomodate the 76.5mm depth they are only 120mmx120mm, can be run on 12v, are 1/3 quieter but I admit only shove 220CFM.

A reviewer of these fans said holding one to your face is akin to sticking your head out the car window at 100mph complete with tears and flapping hair.

I had 4 Papst 24v fans with 280CFM @ 24 vdc
I had them running at 8v and were quite quite.

Yeah but at 8V you really stuffed the CFM.

Anyone buying 24V is thinking about throughput - CFM and you bought four of them.
But then you went and crippled them with 8v supply.
IMHO I would of saved some bucks and bought smaller ( quieter.) fans in the first place.

been waiting on the new ducting to arrive trying to use 80mm is just to loud! sounds like I have a wind tunnel next to me!

So thought sod it and tonight have just got the cable ties out...

Whole thing is securly tied to a cross support had to be very careful installing the MB close to 2kg of fan and heatsink

how much cooling power are you actually getting? i would assume this follows that rule of diminishing returns

to be fair I havent run them at anything above 8v yet... just got it setup is nearly 2am here and the g/f is sleeping... i value my balls and these things are louder than our vacum cleaner... at anything near 24v

am not expert on heatsink design and that but I am not sure if its the CFM that will make the most different the pressure that these fans produce is unreal nearly 3 times that off the big 120mm model... even at 8v I can walk past the back of the setup some 8 - 10 feet away and feel the air comming out of the rear exaust.. am pretty certain given the fin density of the TRUE that the fact its pushing the air so much harder will make the most difference..

Have some time tomorrow so I will ramp up the clock and fan speeds in the morning up to 4ghz and see what sort of temps i am getting on small fft load in prime

as long as it can move air all the way through the TRUE, i don't think air pressure matters. don't quote me on this though. and since the CFM and pressure is so high, i think you won't even see a difference in temps of your case or CPU. this overkill just adds more noise, but since this is XS, overkill is good :up:. if you have some time, do you think you can test CPU temps with 1 vs 2 fans?

I got them from Delta's UK distributor (Aerco) one of the only companies I could find that sell them in single units...

In regards to the temps I ran a quick 1 hour prime @ just over 3.9ghz earlier today before I went out and was getting load temps that were around 14-16c cooler, adjusted for ambient and on the same settings as I have prime'd 8hours stable at on my previous setup.. (52/52/49/49 @ 24c ambient for those that are interested)... so assumming that the motherboard can hold up will run a couple of hours prime tomorrow @ 4.023ghz just to get an idea of how it compairs to my best run on the old setup and then will start to push durring the day tomorrow.. maybe tomorrow night I can get a nice low ambient run at 4.075/4.1 ish assumming i can get my P5K-E stable at that sort of FSB

Crazy fans... 80 Watts? and 650 Grams!!?!!?!?, that's basically as massive as my S1283.

unlesss you're reunning a quad on 1.45v or something :shrug:

These fans would be the most useful not with Air Cooling, but on a dense fin Rad.

why am I doing it? why not.. no one else seems to have and want to see what can be done!

I have 4.023ghz, 8 hours primestable on air and want to see what more i can get... this setup is giving me another 12/14c to play with over the old so should get some more.. if only my motherboard would man up for long enough

As to the effectivness of the extra CFM well its had to tell if its the increase in CFM or static pressure but my temps at high vcore prime95 load (1.6v etc..) are a good 12-14c less than with the 120mm, 190CFM delta's I was using before

Make sure you securly mount your case to the floor. I wouldnt want to see it sliding across the floor! Looks very cool cant wait to see how it works.

they are ok actually will run @ 3v min although noise wise they are ok up to about 9v.. at 8v they are spinning at around 2000RPM which from the feel of them is the same sort of airflow my old 120mm delta's produced at max RPM (3600)..

hehe 1.45v ? mine doesnt feel like its had a hard days work unless its seen 1.5v+ :p

cooling wise at 8v and my Q6600 @ 3.2 (with the fans at 8v) I am getting around a 5c temp difference between idle and 2 hours of prime95 small ffts load..

with the fans @ full and the CPU @ 3.8ish (1.464 load vcore) I am getting around a 23c difference between idle and full prime95 small ffts load..

Am actually very please with the mounting of the heatsink as well getting 1c difference across my cores which is always nice!

So far havent gone much higher got myself a P5Q deluxe and am still playing with the BIOS trying to get 8 hours stable @ 3.950ghz to give a solid platform to push past the 4.023ghz I had on the old setup..

You can still get some more performance with mondo fans on the Ultra 120x and the IFX-14. I did in my review here. Going in so far as to strapping 2 76mm thick fans with a 38mm hi speed delta. pic 1. pic 2. And this was not even a quad core cpu.

Thats awesome, but my temp w/ my 133CFM rpm Scythe fan was the same as w/ my Delta 220CFM. Anyone know y? My Q6600 was only at 2.4GHz, maybe i should overclock it more to make more heat?

would guess its the amount of heat the setup is generating... only start to see a real differnce on mine once I start pushing 3.4ghz+ am noticing a real difference @ 3.8/3.9+

Looks like I haven't been keeping up with the forums lately. Anyway, I've been searching for someone who will sell me a Delta FFB14{24|48}UHE since the time when one could search for "FFB1424UHE" on Google and get no forum hits, only about 3 results from a few distributors.

I've contacted, multiple times, every known North American Delta DC fans distributor, as well as Delta's new European distributor Aerco, only to get 2 types of responses : 1) "We can't help you because even though we sell the unit in quantities of 1, we don't stock it, and in order to stock it, you have to a buy a minimum" which in the best case is 16 units, and in the worst, over 100. 2) "We don't stock the unit but we can get you the number you need, without a minimum, if you can tell us what company you work for and the details of your employer's product design for which you require this fan." Also, I've gotten honest replies from distributors explaining how Delta are a bunch of c*cky *ssholes and that they have their hands tied -- apparently Delta doesn't stock the fan themselves, but custom builds it on demand, with a high number of minimum units and a extremely long lead time : 8 weeks . As one distributor said

So, in summary, I've almost exhausted all my options, including contacting dozens of Delta's "Valued Partners" and surplus dealers. As a last resort I called up the local Delta rep, who happens to have an office about 5 miles away from where I live :

I was really elated when the rep apologized for Delta giving me the runaround and offered to give me free samples of the FFB1424UHE. He said to wait 3 weeks at which point he'd call me. Unfortunately, he has yet to call.

Also, the same goes for All American Semiconductors --a Delta Distributor-- which for the FFB1424UHE, redirects you to OnlineComponents.com . I was able to "order", as in their system took my credit card information, 3 fans. After waiting for the backorder lead time to expire, I contacted them as my credit card had not been charged. No reply. So I contacted them again. No reply.

So, that's my story. At least I got my hands on several new FFB1424SHGs -- Delta's highest end 140mmx140mmx50mm fan -- which "only" do 273 CFM :

Uh, ok I see, thx. I have a 220CFM Delta - 120x38mm - 65BD. The one u want is 74DB, not sure but U might want some ear protection lol :)
