Hehehe, I just posted the same post like 10 seconds ago, lol

I noticed it after I posted mine:eek: Guess I have 2 times the chance at getting an answer then:)
If there's a cheaper board that'll give simular performance that'll be fine too:D
I have the P4c800-E and i can stay that it's a very stable and fast board. Haven't used the MAx-3 but i did have a MAx-2 board which is essentially very similar and didn't like at all. The Abit board is a fine board but i always found it a bit flakey when o/c highly ie my 3.0c @ 3950 in a MAch-II.
I think it's universally agreed that you can squeeze more FSB out of the Asus board which comes into play if you have a 2.4/2.6 chip, not so important on the 3.0/3.2. Anyway you can't really go wrong with either but i'm sure the Asus is a bit more stable from my experience.
Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to lean towards the asus board now. I was ready to order the max till I read a few posts about people having problems with it, plus the asus is fully compatible with a Vapochill:)
Oh yeah, and I save over 30 bucks:D
I'm running the P4C800-E and LOVE it.
Just remember that the BIOS is a bit wierd. because the mem-divider settings go like this for ASUS.
RAM FSB
400=1:1
320=5:4
266=3:2
Hollywood - glad you're enjoying your board as well
have you played around with different bios's so far??? mine came with 1009 and i havent tried 10 or 11 yet as ive heard mixed reports for both but i might be able to squeeze some more out of it .....or end up with a dead board if i temp fate with 1011 :)
I have them both and I have think my E overclocks better and is more stable than this max3, but with a good bios or 2 maybe that can change. Also, the extra vdimm on the max is cool if you don't want to do the mod.
As of the 1.2 official bios, I would have to say the E is better
Ya know bro...I'm just using the most up to date BIOS I could get...which was the 1011. And I've not had problem one yet. :DQuote:

That Asus is a top board. It's the best canterwood out there IMHO. I've had my 2.4 @ 3.8, my 2.8 @ 3.9 and my 3.0 @ 4.2, all in the P4C800-E with the latest bios. The max3 doesn't even come close in my books.
Ok, that's it....I'm convinced now, goin with the Asus:)
I can't wait to see what I can get outta this cpu!!
Thanks
P4C800-E Deluxe!
I wanted to be a little different...i just ordere a 4pca3+ rev2...wish me luck guys :D
I figure even if performance is down, how big of a gap could it be? I like the vdim and don't want to spend money for the max3, not that i realy have a problem doing a vmod on the p4c800, but it is nice not having to. It also only costs $140, so there is a huge difference. I realy hope this board does well...seems like it is very strong.
I am sure I won't regret it...my best rig 4 months ago was an 8k3a+ and 1800xp @ 1.7 with an ax-7 and loud tornado. I have been using a 1700@2.6 with nf7-s rev2, and I had my intel rig going during the summer with an ic7-g, which I sold because I planned on buying the max3, but it just didn't seem worth the price tag.
I can finally get my pelts going and finalize my rig...for about 2 days that is :D
would you mind posting a link as to where you got it from? 3.3 vdimm is yummy.. :toast:
I built an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe for my son and was so impressed with it that I bought one for myself. This is coming from a guy who has a stack of Abit mobo boxes in the garage 4 feet tall! It's a great board! :D
censuspc.com
I talked to a sales rep and he said they got a bunch of rev2's in, and are not selling the rev1.1's anymore. They are gonna keep the 1.1's for "rma buffers" so that people can't switch out of their old one's by saying they are broken. If you buy one now you will get a rev2. He claims there aren't many, and they are going fast...but i doubt that, just sales talk. I am pretty sure anyone that would have been buying this mobo realy quickly already has a few...well I guess I bought it as soon as i heard, maybe i am alone...
I saw mwave had them also, but don't know if they are rev2's
hey svenn, did you even get one of those cooltechnica delay thingys that you posted in another thread? That looked kind of cool...wonder if it would help the cpu live a little bit longer, starting as cold as possible instead of possibly starting as hot as possible.
I have it sitting around, but I don't have a P4 board or chip yet... still deciding on the max3 or p4c800-e deluxe... Everywhere but this thread people are saying go for the max3 so I'm so confused now, lol. I think I may go max3 just so I don't have to do the vdimm mod. I really hope this prom works with it though :-/Quote:

The max3 has a sucky 5:4 divider problem where the pc will not boot over a certain fsb level, for me its 285. WizardB has the problem, and I believe a few others here have it to :(
I am going to wait till early next week for a bios to be released and if it isnt, then its the P4C800-E for me
Like The Dude, I have a stack of Abit boxes and the last Asus board I owned was the P4PE, and I returned it the next day cos I hated it so much.....but from what I have seen, the P4C800-E aloows higher OCs and appears to be more stable than the current Max3 Abit is offering.....
Wonder if its the actual board, or just a bios is needed.....time will tell :)
Because of that 5:4 problem amongst others, I could only get a 600mhz overclock when I had my max3. Ditched it, replaced it with the Asus and now enjoying a 1200mhz overclock.
You could be right about that. Look at the NF7-S. I owned every revision of that board. Lately Abit seems to have adopted "The Microsoft Way" of making the consumer pay them to beta test their boards. Funny thing is that it seems to eventually result in the best mobos. ;)Quote:
time will tell
;) hehehehehe
Problem is Dude, I only have nextweek of Uni for holidays and then back again for a few weeks before exams....so prob need a sollution in the next 4-5 days......the main thing about the Abit is the vdimm....but then again the Asus mod is pretty easy.....oooer decisions decisions :stick: :D
Phil, that post just made me tingle :p: U really got 600mhz more from the Asus board? What about when u Oced with the 3:2 divider on the Abit?
Faced with the same decision...I went with the Asus, but in time I expect the Abit to improve as usual.;)
Yep - a clear 600mhz better with my Asus than with the Max3, and I tried both a L311 3.0C and my 2.8C. Both chips are good for 4ghz. I gave up trying with the Max3 to be honest after I found stability at 3.6 and it wouldn't go any further no matter what. I wanted to run some benchies and this was a hopeless situation. I hit the 5:4 bug without doubt. 3:2 was pointless because the ram wasn't being pushed enough for my liking. I can now run 270-280FSB stable in the Asus 1:1 with my Corsair 4000, and 270-280 stable with my OCZ 3700 Gold at 5:4. Depends what mood I'm in ;) FWIW I got over 55k in Aquamark. I've just reapplied my waterchill to the gpu although I'm struggling with a pesky leak at the mo. I want to hit 56k.
WOah damn nice there phil
Based on yours and Dudes advice, it is making me think more about it....but currently playing with a 2.4 and the 3:2 divider is fine....but again, its pretty lousy having a board that doesnt do something it should be doing defaul
Exactly my sentiments mate. You don't pay top dollar for a board to run it at stock do you..
I am yanking out this max3 today and going back to my p4c800-e.
for some more testing.
I can't seem to get past 265fsb with a shread of stability but at 265 it will loop 3d mark with only 1.625 volts on this 3.2c WTF? It has to be the board thats holding me back as NO cpu voltage will make it run stable over 265.
I'll know for sure which board is better by the end of the night :)
I'd be very interested to see your results mate - I'm convinced there is something untoward going on with the Max3. It was such a bad performer that I even thought I had a dodgy board. lol.. At the end of the day I had tried two cpu's and two different lots of memory in mine, and couldn't get more than a 600mhz overclock max stable, and that was with a MachII. It's either incredibly picky with memory, or it has the worse bios on record! I'm sticking with my Asus from now on.. Tried and tested. :)
Same problem here. Can't believe they released this crap to us in this condition.
My 2.4 was maxxing at 3.3ghz (275fsb). Ill be testing a 3.2c on it this week, and if I get the same thing, then Im switching to Asus.
I am returning my max3 also. It ran 300 once now I cant get it over 260. It really sux with the 5;4 and 3:2 dividers. The board has issues.
Seems like Abit keeps releasing beta bios' to us. They need to get off their ass and give us what we paid for.
I have the p4c800-e delux and it works great for me. Getting the vdimm mod done now to get 3.2v out of it. Comes with lots off goodies and is very stable
Another happy asus owner here... :)
Well, I went and did it......got the Asus:) Prolly gonna install it and the 3.2 tonite and see what she can do:D
Thanks for all the replies!!!
Yup -- after I fried my IC7-G, I swore up and down that I'd get the Asus. But then the MAX3 came out and I thought "ABIT must have the kinks worked out by now," and I bit. BIG MISTAKE!
CPU temp on this board is always at least 7C hotter, even at idle, than on the IC7-G with the exact same rig and BIOS settings. The PWM temps are much hotter under load because of that stupid OTES plastic. Worst of all, the Vcore is all over hell and back -- ranging from 0.5v low on idle to a full volt low at load -- so I can't even worry about high OC without going over 1.7 Vcore, which I'm not comfortable doing on air. All the complaints about undervolting on the Asus helped steer me from that board, but the ABIT seems to be worse.
If I could get a full refund, and not bite the 15% restock from Newegg, I would return this thing and get the 800-E tomorrow. Since I can't, and since I have my own unhappy experience with ABIT's lousy RMA service, I'll chalk it up to my own stupidity. Next spring the MAX3 will make a good hand-me-down board to my kids, along with the Lian-Li case that suffered a slow death by Dremel. After that, no more ABIT boards unless they pay me!
:stick:
I bit it and rma back t newegg. Got an p4c800e deluxe.:D
........I think abit is going downhill fast because its just not the Intel mobos with the bios problem. Now they screwed the NF7 mobos too.........
is there a newer bios than 18 on the nf7? I got my highest oc with the 18. It was higher than 14 by about 3 mhz.
........no but any bios other than the d10bios most cannot use the 10/10.5 multis above 215fsb...........now the downside to the d10 bios is that ram settings are different than any other so if you can do 9.5x240 with the d18 doesn't mean your ram will do it with the d10 bios...........
i have heard everyone saying that about the 10x and 10.5x, but mine work in all bios revs. I checked 14, 16, 17, 18 and it worked in all.
I have heard that happen to the 8rda+ and other nforce2 boards, so maybe it is the chipset.
.......it only happens w/cpu interface=enabled. It happens to 99% of people but there is that 1% that got lucky. You might be in that 1%........
Sweet:D
This was a good thread, I had some SERIOUS issue with my Ic7 and IC7-G and I picked up a p4c800-e. This was a good move on my part as all my issues went away. I tried every possible solution to fix my Abit connectivity issue, multiple Cable modems, Multiple Nics, Multiple Hdd's both Sata and IDe, multiple Memory sticks, Cpus, PSU's, Bios updates as well as using a new bios chip and lastly subscribing to DSLreports line monitoring to prove my IC7's had funky problems and it wasnt my ISP. I would lose connectivity EVERY 30-60 minutes and if I rebooted I had net access again, IMAGINE rebooting 20-30 times a day.....It was INSANE!!!!
The only thing I dont like about the p4c800-e is that the Northbridge should have a fan on the Northbridge as it gets a bit toasty (gonna watercool it) and the temp readings are very inaccurate (cpu shows 28c load and the mobo is 27c load)
Hey thats no biggie but this Abit guy is now a Asus guy
