Wow there is a lot of stuff on that motherboard.
PIC SLOT ? hm
That'll be my new board.
i been lookin for pics and info on this for a few days. anyone can translate or know additional info on this or what the difference of this and the current maximus II besides 8x xfire and ddr2 vs 16x xfire and ddr3?
it sure looks like a killer board.....
I have also heard good things about the rampage,...
Nice board, but nehalem is too close get a 775 board, it looks too bloated.
anyone else notice the nice big red start button?
finally more PCI-Express and less PCI
Whats the deal with the OC Tweak It switch?
Uh since most people have pci slot sound card's pci is good.
They just started introducing pci-e 1 sound cards recently.
Sure looks pretty, but.. Far too expensive for a 775 board at this point. X58, 1366 and Nehalem is practically right around the corner. :)
To much :banana::banana::banana: going on on that board for my liking, and yest to close to nehalm to go to that i feel
And way out of my price range, id have to sell one of my kids to get that thing.
I'm still waiting for the first Mobo with built-in WiFi support... Especially as PCI seems to be disappearing....
Otherwise, that board at least looks like business....
Best Regards :toast:
Does it have ICH10R SB?? Rumor has it that they might put ICH10R+x48, hence the delay. Also, the last two IO ports, are they SATA or SAS?? The last time I looked at the pictures of this thing @ hardwareinfo, the last two ports were orange color, so going by what they did with the P5N64, made me believe they were SAS. But looking at the Maximums II formula, which is the P45 cousin of this board, they had 8 sata. So it looks like just 2 more additional SATA ports through some other 3rd party controller.
To Maximus II or not to Maximus II,
THAT is the question !!
:p:
Perkam
Cool, only 6 months later than the rest of the competition
I think the "extreme" folks are Nehalem bound at this point. Sad part is that probably means we get the "early ducks" for mobo's and subsequent issues thereon, but those who wanted X48, probably have it by now.
except nehalems are so new and there will be bugs in the mobos paired with premium prices. q6600 was over $800 at launch, and how its just over $200. it'll probably take about a year for nehalems to hit the mainstream market so until then, the current 775 will still suffice
Looks to me they were trying to get rid of leftover heat sinks they had lying around...
What ever happened to the Pinot Noir? anyone else remember that one (yes...I know it's essentially a blinged out Rampage extreme)
A close-up of the button reveals ;;;

Easy Overclocking ...
ok, I'll admit I was wrong, then again, most of the RoG boards these days all look nearly identical, meh
This board looks awesome but as people have said, it is quite late to hit the market.
its PCI not PIC
very weird pciE slot placement... :eh:
Looks too cheap looking. I mean the red color really offsets the quality of the parts.
Oh god, another motherboard that looks like the machine city in the matrix, wonder if Neo is actually in this one, couldn't find him in the MSI boards, false advertisement i say.
sound card rox though, try to say the name 3 times fast!! Thats my test for good hardware, if you cant say the name 3 times fast, its an awesome product!
I'll probably get called a troll but as much as I think this board looks rather cool and feature rich (albeit slightly cluttered), I wish ASUS would stop churning out new boards and concentrate on fixing all the niggling glitchs, bugs and problems in their X38 based BIOSES (for the P5E series boards).
I have 2 different P5E boards (one DDR2 based 8400 PC the other DDR3 QX Yorkfield Quad based PC).
BOTH are flashed with their latest respective BIOS yet only the P5E3 has the correct voltages for the 45nm core, P5E over volts.
and then we get onto the other glitches...performance level is not described correctly in either BIOS.
If ASUS sort their BIOS' out then they would be great boards.
Getting back on Topic I do love the break out PCI-E card included with the Rampage Extreme, IMHO the P5E3 should have a PCI-E slot above the 1st graphics slot for Audio.
The other featuers such as heat sinks on the board look useful to, and the solid caps are always better than the good old caps we used to get a few years back on the ASUS boards
John
Originally this board I hear was cancelled due to the P5E3 Premium being so good...why bring another board to market that brings nothing new?
Now I hear they found some tweaks that will allow this board to shine above the Premium.
That is why its a little late, remember also X48 has another year at least to live so there is still a huge market for it
This is DDR3 board?
yes, all the asus boards with the word "extreme" behind it is the ddr3 version
looks like a hotwheels edition board
exactly, if your going to spend a million dollars on another Asus board, at least wait a few more months and get the new nehalem (sp?) boards..... Asus, and im sure most other companies will try to market the dead 775socket boards just 1 more time to get our monies, dont fall for it:up:
tempting but i'll pass
if you download the pic I attach now, just increase its size a bit in any viewer, not too much 'cause won't be able to read anymore, you can get the confirmation that the mobo has actually got three SATA controlers, like the Maximus II.
1st one ICH9R with 6 SATA
2d one Marvell with 2 internal PATA and one external SATA
3d one Silicon with 2 SATA
pic found on the same site as OP
OK pic is too big to upload here...link comes in a minute
http://pic.xfastest.com/MB/ASUS/RAMP...REME/RE-03.jpg
edit:
(I made a stupid confusion when I first posted here due to the same number of controllers on the RE like on the Maximus II...which doesn't change anything as to the nature of the primary controler on the RE/X48, that remains an ICH9R of course, and no ICH10R only available with P45 atm. (and BTW it's been confirm X58 will ship with ICH10R).
The pci-e x1 xifi audio cards that have been on several boards now are very, very nice. In saying the board was late, I may have implied that the features were not good. That is not the case, it is a very good board from the spec sheet.
Damn, I need a second job. No SLi but its not like I can afford a second 280 GTX anyway although the price war is making that a possibility each day.
Oh no, I feel an upgrade coming on.
The board is gorgeous, love the (Windows Vista Certified) Start Button and Thermalright esq VRM coolers. Hell it even has an Extreme Engine.
I wonder if a 4000 series quadfire setup on this board would beat tripple GTX280 SLi on EVGA 790i. All the red with a pair of 4870s of x2s would look fantastic in my red Cosmos. This board probably wouldn't have been released if ATi hadn't pulled a blinder with the 4000 series.

So this is basically a DDR3 Rampage Formula with the revised heatsink/WB along with the onboard Xfi right? What was the MSRP supposed to be? $400+ ?
I love it ...
Too late. I love Asus, but if they really want to make an "enthusiast" board, they have to give us "enthusiasts" the option of using different heatsinks, just like DFI. I rank Asus above everyone else, but the R.O.G. boards keep looking tackier and tackier...
Any word on release date?
Am i the only one who thinks their boards are too...gimmicky?....
Have you used one of the recent ASUS boards - Maximus or Rampage, Kingcarcas?
You might think it looks tacky but I must say the passive sinks on their x38/x48 boards work very well. I have the Formula myself and am very impressed with it. This board seems to be only an improvement on it. My last 3 boards I've replaced the stock cooling right off the bat because it sucked ( which means more money I shouldn't have had to spend after the fact )and this is the first board I'm keeping stock because it works. The lack of noise is also a plus.
And as far as using your own heatsink, on the Formula the NB/SB sink is separate from the mosfet sink so you can easily take it off and use your own air/water solution. I was prepared to put a Swiftech MCW30 on the NB and a Evercool on the SB but it turns out it wasn't necessary which impressed me.
Ugly as all hell, looks like a toy truck you'd give a 4 year old.
that nb block is fugly as hell!!! can u take it off?
This picture should give u a hint...

any know the release date?
more screens and results (600FSB prime etc)

According to this article, you can take the nb block off. This board looks awesome.
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/06...new-features/1
When ... ?
damn sexy board but...
A) probably costs about 800 dollars
B) is the "overclocking" part covered under warranty, or is it another marketing gimmick like foxconns "quantum force"
The waterblock looks pretty disappointing. Looks like 3/8 barbs that are forged on.
Its been asked a number of times but no replys yet: release date?
then obviously no one knows, as this is a preview of the board. it's not even a full review
No you are wrong. The person who got the board will know or can find out. We just need to move this question up the chain till it reaches the source and then back to us again... so can the original poster go back to his/her source and ask the question? And ask the source (in the case that his/her source does not know) to go up to his/her source and ask the question .... and so on till we all get an answer?
Dont think it will be ICH10R:
Chipset
Intel® X48/ICH9R
in here - http://www.asus.com/news_show.aspx?id=12040
is it a transformer or a mb?
fusion block gonna be aluminum aswell??
Well, a few days ago it showed up on Asus' support site, under downloads.

Pure speculation, but I'm thinking about 4-6 weeks, hopefully sooner though.

that block looks to be made from aluminium... when will they learn:shakes:
@$284 to $325 that makes Nehalem less than the cost of the wildly popular E6600 that sold for as much as $360. For the first 6 months the lowest price was about where Nehalem 2.66GHz will start. The problem is the Motherboard's cost might look just like this Asus Board. I'd stick with the $130 version until Nehalem ships.
Sorry to ask such a basic question - never had a crossfire board before - can I run a single GTX280 on it ?.
Thanks All.
Yes you can run a single GTX280 in it.
Bloatboard that gets outdated within 2 months. Still a nice board though. :)
this board is like some lego construction kit - there are hundreds of possibilities to attach parts to it
though, this board looks awesome. it's bloated yes, but just from the looks it's very high-grade and the black, red and gray colors mix up very well.
and all the settings, and the Tweakit function just seems to rock with on-the-fly settings.... can it be better? and those who got the board, it simply rock! very feature rich bios, good cooling... good components, this is Asus nr1 card i think... its a "me want warning" all over it hehe.
Now in stock at www.overclockers.co.uk !!
That's $450
I think I might go with a P5Q or Maximus II if the price is the same here in US.
super overpriced!!! fail
As all Enthusiast motherboards with ddr3, all top notch x48 boards costs as much. its just to swallow it and buy.. :)
I am not sure what they are talking about but this LOOKS to be the first review of the Rampage Extreme....or is it the Maximus II Extreme? Or maybe some mythical board that has a P45 chipset and somehow morphs into a Rampage Extreme when you take pics of it....
http://legionhardware.com/document.php?id=763
I think you need to mentally replace the "Maximus II Extreme" with "Rampage Extreme", then everything makes sense...
Was thinking of posting on the discussing page but cba to register...
edit: then it talks about Crosslinx, from then on the "review" lost all of its credibility.
