Waiting for other games :). Which have you chosen for testing?
P.S. Almost have forgotten, good work
Nice. I can't wait for the rest of the results.
Thanks!
Where is CF test :D
Why you do not test on Catalyst 8.6 http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Cata...load-1942.html
Some OpenGL test please, want to see if ATI has fixed this.
Thx
Mascaras, congrats for the 1st portuguese 4850 benches ;)
You rule men.
But I'm waiting is for the 4870 :D
Great Mascaras...hahahaha.
Wake up, you can´t sleep today!!
How come you are using high settings in DX10 and not very high?
Oh yeah.
Can you do 1920x1200 at them settings? :)
Good start mascaras!
Dou you have any overclocking tool for it beside CCC Overdrive?
What about the other games? We're full of crysis and 3d mark benchmarks :).
Enough?
Nice one mascaras.
got the second card installed , temp not so high
Second card in Crossfire mode = 44º
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/2...mps2vgags6.jpg
i only instaled the cards ~ 3 hours ago (lunch time in midle) :p:
regards
Uh how are Jimmyz's not "real"?
And yeah there is still no tool other than CCC...
Very nice crossfire results there mascaras .
Can you please try crossfire 1680x1050 at very high dx10? I would really appreciate.
Scores look really nice i must say. This little card looks like a real powerhouse.
Looking good. :)
Wonder how 3 and 4 cards will scale and compare to like sli from gtx 280s and 260s
OK then, I see you want to install the second card, so to unleash the beast:). We'll wait till you get satisfied with the CF and then will ask you for some other possible bench games - like F.E.A.R, UT3, World in Conflict, GRID, Age of Conan and the promised 3.2 ghz processor tests, of course if that is no problem . GL with the CF ;).
Any micro-stuttering issues you could have noticed while benching, mascaras?
added crysis "in game" crossfire
no micro-stutering at all in 1st level , but dont get too excited because with HD3000 series crossfire on crysis 1st level also no micro-stutering , but other levels yes !
i will test more levels and also very High
regards
Hi!!!! thx you very much :clap:
Can you Oc memory and see how it scales??? so we can see how much bottleneck is because of ddr3? Thx you
Mascaras please include some detailed comparisons of AA perfomance hit in other games
Looks like the shader count on the RV770 is really starting to kick in... just noticed that DX10 high @ 1280 x 1024 has 34.41 avg FPS for the 4850 w/ 4xAA while 9800GTX is 34.64 w/ no AA... interesting!
nice pic
1600x1200
very high

sweet thread!
can't wait to see more benchmark results. The 4850 seems to be right on the 9800GTX's ass,. Good to see!
Wow... 4850 is realy close. :) But nvidia is going to launch drivers that'll boost 9800 GTX performance (if Fudzilla isn't lying). I wonder how much will that driver change the situation.
added crysis in game (high & very high @ crossfire)
In last level of Crysis @ crossfire i noticed few breaks/stutering (example : when runing down the stairs inside the ship ) !
regards
So do we know the performance increase of the 4870 over the 4850 yet?
lovely review Mascaras as always, my favourite of course...
how 4850 performs in what concerns to image quality, is smoth or what?
any breaks in Single or CF config?
cheers might
image quality so far is good !
will test few more games !
regards
Well...
1280x1024 4xAA 4050mhz e8400, 2gb Vistax64 64 bit test 8800GT @ 625/1000
Drivers @ default values
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/6277/88gtdx9sk6.th.jpg
I am the only one that thinks this is not surprising? I mean, 8 months after 8800GT is out, and for more 45€ you get about the same performance (at least at those settings)
nice review....just cant wait till we get some modest OC results, when that nut is cracked im sure this card for the price will rock.....bring on the big boys toys !!
No we don't. Higher clock speeds and GDDR5, new ram rumored to provide 5-10% boost in certain scenarios.
UPDATE: hardware.fr 4850 review posted in Xtreme News
Performance greater than 9800GTX and 8800 Ultra. Bring on the 4870!
Hey mascaras,
can you try some different frame buffer depth and see if it has any impact on micro-stuttering??
Thanks a bunch !!
Just a Tip, include min FPS too that is important :) great review you got here waitting for more tests :)
grid Race added
best optimized game for Crossfire i ever played :)
Btw:
9800GX2 results i had saved with same system but Grid Demo (not full game like HD4850 CF) and only 1680x1050 (HD4850CF in 1st post @ 19200x1200)
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9101/forumqg8.th.jpghttp://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2...rum6az0.th.jpg http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4...rum4ok1.th.jpg
regards
No WiC results?
great thread. i heard GRID didn't scale well with CrossFire. did you rename the .exe or force AFR through CCC? or did it just scale well out of the box?
Vantage tests @ Crossfire Added
i just run the game
CCC = Default
btw: GRID Race with the Patch released few days ago >>> http://files.filefront.com/Race+Driv.../fileinfo.html
regards
From Portugal
Nice work mascaras
Soooo....
HD4850X2 =~ 9800GX2 ||
9800GX2=2x 8800GT (G92) || ==> HD4850=8800GT (G92)
Nice... kinda late, but still nice :)
Mascaras is that possible to place the results on a table?
I think your great efforts are really well appreciated, however misunderstood by some forum members by the fact is not clearly organized. Keep the good work up :)
Regards,
Metroid.
Thanks for the comprehensive tests and for the numerous in game screens. :bounce: We wait for more:up:
official driver Catalyst 8.6 - http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...common-vista64
Mascaras, please benchmark this:
Crysis VERY HIGH + 4xAA @ 1920x1200
Single Card + Crossfire
WITH CATALYST 8.6!! (it works!)
single 4850
Crysis @ 1280x1024 @ VERY High Setings @ 4AA @ DX10
According to GRID help file (or readme file), the game is not optimized for any dual card config. I think I read this.
However when I play it with my 8800GT SLI, both cards are pushing, the temps on both cards are identical.
I suppose the same thing happens with two cards in CF.
Regards
Nice scores
Can you compare a 4850CF (~440$?) vs. 8800GTS 512 SLi (~340-400$)?
actually 4850 XFire cost 296 Euro (147 x 2)
http://www.grosbill.com/4-sapphire_a...formatique-ati
bye
8.6 official installed on my 4850 x-fire setup and is working nicely. wish I had some time to test and game lol.
more crossfire tests added !
i will test same games @ single card and also vantage !
regards
I am very impressed with this review and thank you for doing it.
I am confused on one thing in your charts there are red text with an Asterisk
I can't find any foot note to explain what this means. I know dumb but confused.
can you test 3d mark 2005?
thanks
Very nice review, mascaras!
Could you, please, tell us if there is any micro stuttering when running in Crossfire mode? I know you already told us earlier that in Crysis there are some lock-ups, but what i refer to is this.
Cheers!
@mascaras
Could you test Age of Conan with HD4850 Crossfire please?
thanks :)
beside Crysis , all games i tested i didn't noticed much mico-stutering ! (at leat not too noticeble)
you´re right , i started testing single card today , and guess what???
1920x1200 AA x2 ultra settings = almost same Fps as CF (70/95)
so i guess the game dont scale well @ Multi GPU (same hapens with GX2 and SLi) , however the good new is that single hd4850 can run the game @ 1920x and AA with very good FPS :)
im uploading the SS
edit: added Race Grid @ single card
added COD4 singleplayer @ single card
added 3dmark vantage Performance test @ Single card
Mascaras, any info about the hotfix?
Thanks!
the first part of review was hd4850 Crossfire with CAT 8.5 , the only single card test i done @ 1st part of review was the crysis but i also tested today with Cat 8.6 and same thing (also in CF no gains)
i only started 2nd part review today @ testing single card in Games but already with cat 8.6 ( i didnt test singl card in games with cat 8.5 before, so i cant compare :( )
regards
Good work @mascaras, that was what we've expected:up:.
Sorry you test with 8.6 hotfix or 8.6 ?
They talk about stability gain, any change ?
And about temp, do you try to change Thermal Compound for Artic Silver 5 or Noctua ? Because it seams that there is to much on stock...
To make you're thread more completed you can go to make a look there : http://www.generation-3d.com/article...50,ar295-1.htm
They talk about architecture of the card if you don't sign an nda :p... & if you know a lil'bit french...
nope , the cards are not mine ! (today @ last day)
but yes , lots of ppl reporting that changing thermal Compound the temps are much better , also the Artic Accelero S1 seems to be very good with HD4850 !
i only had 4 days to test HD4850 (single & Crossfire) , i tried my best testing all the games i could !
But with the EVGA GTX280 i will have lots of days to test it , so i will Full review the card with lot of benchmarks and games (reviews section / card should arrive tomorow or tuesday)
i didnt posted the hd4850s in reviews section because is more a Testing Report than a Full review !
best regards
OK, you make a great job for 4 days & 3 different catalyst to try, great ;) !
Good luke for GTX 280
If you'll have time try to add your HD4850 test to have an idea (like if you sould allready think about it :p)

well, regarding to performance i've nothing to say unless it's the best bang for the buck actually, but i have a problem,my monitor is a HP2207h HDMI and have two connections...sub-d and HDMI, and using the hdmi dongle and plug a cable to my monitor shows a washed out image as if the brightness setting was to high, the blacks are dark grey and not only in movies...games and windows too,i've tried the sub-d and everything is ok,i've pluged the monitor by hdmi to my tv box and works well, meanwhile i opened a ticket at AMD to see waht they say about that,if anyone have a clue please just let me know.
kind regards,
What about ATItool.....wont that work as a overclocking app on the HD4850?
also....was curious... wil 2 of these (crossfired) fit in the Antec P182 casing?
