DFI first DDR3 motherboard, UT X48-T3R Heatsink by Thermalright
-
Thanks Andre, really stunning pics, can't wait to see some results from your new toy.
-
great pics andre... im really looking forward on seeing some benchmarks :D
-
Nice Andre... :)
I didnt get this toy, sadly... Can you post max FSB quad and max FSB dual ASAP? And if it allows 1:2 at highest FSB... :)
Btw... Hope you didnt boot with that PLL :p
Kinda would fry your chip instantly, hehe

I really like the layout & the heatsinks look like they actually do something. I've never owned a DFI board as the bios options scare me. I wouldn't have a clue what they all do. Does the manual explain what all of these settings do & how they increase stability/overclock? Or is there like a guide somewhere online for DFI virgins like myself?

yes, in my country @ Online store prize is $343....
-
I hope we'll see a war between this and blackOPS:D
-
Hope DFI has sorted out all the 3870x2 card issues in this new mobo, pls test with a 3870x2 if possible.
-
This is going to be really interesting, i think we might see the craziest DDR3 clocks with this mobo.
-
LT version for $100 savings, simpler heatsinks, and the win.
-
i'm such a dfi fanboy:D
but i'm broke and have just stepped up my pos 780i for an 790i.
i will get one in a few months or so thuo
-
Look that board very promising........
-
i have the UT x48-T2R version and have been wondering if because the nb can take after market cooling without removal of the heat-pipe assembly, you should be able to mount a waterblock on it, right?
-
perfect pci/pcie slot placement and i mean all 7 slots
will get the mobo just for that alone
-
The neon green lines serve as warnings so you don't cut yourself on the HS's.
If you go Tri SLi no PCI slots though, unless you are using single slot or WC obviously. Why haven't I realized this before
-
i didnt say the slot config is perfect for everyone but it doesnt get any better for me than that config which only comes along in a blue moon
-
when and where in the usa be available?
-
looks like my P35 has to go now :D
Andre, is the NB too close to the proc area? i mean if you would use a HR05, would you still be able to fit a TRUE?
-
Sorry for delay. Oskar still worked at 2000 CL7 and CL8 1T stable. I think I will post some results soon.
Andre
-
Lookin good man, cant wait to see some benchs on this one
-
Looks really good and u are so true, Oscar is playing 1.84 or 1.86v 2000...
Really looking forward to see more info...
Keep testing it...
-
thought it was just the fact that this board is DDR3 that's different, but it seems the PCI slots also differ from the T2R.

They should have kept the T2R layout, more room to freeze things.

DFI still worked hard with all strap. I just test 400/1600 now. DFI will fixed all strap worked before this mobo is available at 5/29.
-
It looks sweet, cannot wait to get my hands on this board. Hopefully it will be in the shops within the next few weeks, it fills like an eternity since i first heard about the board.
-
Man, that is a really sick board! I miss overclocking DFi boards, they're so much fun. I want this!
-
Finelly!!! :D what I have been waiting for this moment!!
Since 26 february when the news came I have been waiting, it it has gotten delayed and delayed and delayed!!
yeeeey... :)
some one know if any other store that will ship in the EU also will get it the 29th?
MotherboardPro dont ship international, so i have to get it in EU, and 3 shops here still says pre-order but no date.
regards.
-
are you sure i thought motherboard pro did ship overseas. i could swear they did
-
Ahhh ok :)
but it is a far way to ship electronics i think, what if it is broken when it arrives?
omg, sending it back, and RMA and yati yati :)
i will look and trend4pc or scan computer, or Hpm computer first if they will get them at the same time, if not , then i will get it all the way from the states :)
i looked at their shipping, they hardly shipped all over states, so i figured it was really a no go :)
but if u say they are like petra's i like it!
regards.

At the moment I'm trying to sell my S2E to pick this board up, been waiting for months for availibility! Can't wait to read more results from testing, so far looking very promising! Thanks Andre for posting your testing results, much apprecaited! Also Clunk great job with your review as well!
-
@Clunk
Nice Review! Waiting for the rest!
-
Thanks :)
The first good news is that the TRUE fits and also the RAM slots don't get in the way of the top PCI-E slot now :)
-
Hi Infa
HPM have them must admit i'm tempted but have got to sort a fewe thinfs before i can order :D
You going for one , tather than your Asus ??
-
Me & kiwi having already 2 coming to us from trend4pc.de... we'll see how really good (or not) these boards will be (having that QX9650 in the house which on P5K3Dlx almost set the 1M & 32M WR's ;) ) If these boards can give additional 100Mhz vs Asus as well as having solid CPC & DDR3 performance, the Pi times will be better ;)
-
Id love to see this compaired against the new foxconn board, to see which is better in overal performance. I do not know which one to get.
-
It's really cool that they added finer grain control on VTT.
-
Just ordered the board, should arrive this afternoon as its on the delivery truck as I write this! I'm gonna do my best to get my currrent system pulled apart and then build up the DFI quickly so I have some time for testing and initial thoughts. So I'll do my best to post back later tonight if all goes well!
Clunk - Can't wait to read the last parts of your DFI X48-T3R reviews (results) once your able to get it posted! I've been having a blast reading and checking out your site, very impressive!
-
-
I must say that I struggled quite hard with what board to get (to replace my S2E), it was between Asus's P5E3-Premium, DFI UT X48-T3R, and Foxconn's BlackOps. I think their all decent boards with the Asus probably the easiest to setup, overclock, and get stable followed by the DFI and then the Foxconn. This is only based from the reviews and articles I've read. However on the other hand that list is probably reversed in terms of potential, Foxconn, DFI, and Asus (for overall clocks, especially with sub-ambient cooling involved). I like to overclock as much as the next guy but I also only have one system so I like it to be reliable too. This is probably the only reason I got the DFI over the BlackOps, well that and the somewhat steeper learning curve on the BlackOps as far as the BIOS is concerned. In any case I'll be keeping close tabs on the thread you just linked to Supershanks so thanks for posting it!
-
Yep understand, I was an early adapter of x48 & went for the Gigabyte GA X48T DQ6 over the Asus's P5E3-Premium , basically didn't see any advantage in paying an extra £70/$140 that the premium was here in the UK. From what I've found , together with Ace-a-Rue (see thread in siggy). I've been very pleased with board.
It's only now of course that the DFI & Foxconn have appeared. Again I'm more drawn I guess to the cheaper but well appointed DFI board. Like you say though I'm interested to see how they compare.
-
I am now the proud owner of a new DFI UT X48-T3R motherboard which just arrived less than 5-minutes ago! Even though I've done it a hundred times I still love opening up new hardware and checking it out! As usual with DFI this motherboard is beautiful and the build quality is very good! Its so much different seeing hardware in person than it is viewing it in a photograph (no matter how nice the photos are). I think this onboard cooling setup is even nicer than my old DFI UT P35, plus it looks like this will actually do a decent job of cooling even when pushed a bit! In a few minutes I'm gonna pull my S2E apart and transfer everything over to the DFI, if all goes well I'll be up and running (with a clean install if WinXP Pro)within a couple hours. Once it is up and running I'll try to post back with some better descriptions of the board.
With that all said I've got a quick question for people who already own this board, the board arrives in a plastic clam-shell container. The actual motherboard is in the bottom plastic half and the transpiper type cooler and sound card are attached to the upper plastic half. Well there was a small empty white box between both halfs of the plastic container right about the CPU socket. Well was this box supposed to have something in it or was it just used for keeping the two plastic clam-shell pieces separated correctly? I quickly browsed through the manual and it doesn't show this box, plus I seem to have all the parts shown in pictures? If anyone has information on this I'd be greatful! Last but not least, wish me luck guys in getting this board setup and running!
-
The box is used as a filler only. It is empty.
-
Very nice
Quote:

 part of what keeps us coming back. Looked at Clunks thread & couldn't see anything related to your white box, i'll ask.
Must admit I'm getting an itch
look forward to seeing you running
luck:)
-
Thanks Praz, glad to know! Have you put this board through its paces yet and if so what are you general thoughts so far?
Supershanks - I'm glad I'm not the only geek who still enjoys opening new hardware, heck I even enjoy the smell of new hardware, lol! By the way thanks for the kind words, I'm hoping for the best! Alright this time I"m really shutting down and starting the new build!
-
Haven't had much time with it. What I did notice right off is no more double boot from a cold boot or FSB change. I haven't posted any results as I'm using an Alpha BIOS. It's tuned for clocking 1GB sticks but seems to do good with 2GB ones also. I asked last night if a beta version based on this one could be posted up.
-
Quote:

 yes at least it's cheaper than that other great smell , the new motor :)
-
I'm surprised more people here haven't jumped on this board yet...I think I'm gonna go with this over the Foxconn for my phase build...I know the BIOS and already had great sucess with the X48 LT board...I hope more people jump on this so we can get some good discussions going for it.
-
Updated things slightly.
It turns out that there is a glaring error in the user manual regarding the PCI-E slot configs.

clunk, you referring to the 1x instead of the 16x?
-
Yep, the manual says that PCI-E 4 is the second 16x PCI-E slot, when it is actually 1 & 3 that are the 16x slots.
Also, I found that if I started off with the 8800GT in the PCI-E 4, and then moved it to PCI-E 3, I still only got 1x until I reset the CMOS.
Seems ok now :)
Added DFI UT X48-T3RS voltage measuring points.
-
Granted it doesn't really matter but this was by far the worst DFI manual I've ever read before, nothing at all about BIOS setup or settings? It does however do a great job of having different launguages, lol! Well after a long night I got Windows loaded finally, after getting the genaral BIOS settings sorted. Unfortunately I had to go to bed for work today but I've got a few hours tonight to play around. I'm currently using BIOS version 05/21 (probably most are using this BIOS) and it seems to be fine, although I do have one major issues that I haven't spent much time on but I will tonight. Once I got the BIOS setup (except for Genie settings) I tried manually setting my DRAM timings (just the main 4, tCL, tRCD, tRP, and tRAS to 7-7-7) and upped the DRAM voltage from 1.5v to 1.9v but it wouldn't boot, just got an odd "01" error code. The only way to get around this was to manually clear CMOS and start over. At this point I've been unable to change DRAM timings with any success, even thought the DIMMS are only clocked at 1333Mhz? Has anyone experienced this problem so far?
Now that I'm home from work I'm gonna give it another go, and I'll have more time to do it but any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited!
Clunk - Thank you very much for posting Voltage Measuring Points, what a huge help! I didn't think that Smart Guardian was all that accurate, lol! Thanks again guys for all the postings, I also hope that others pick this board up as I think it will be a pretty decent mothreboards once things get sorted a bit.
-
I haven't played with the timings yet, but I will get to it over the weekend.
This is as far as I've got, but I have some 2000Mhz OCZ sticks as well :)
-
Thanks Clunk, I'll post back soon once I've given this some proper time. I should have done that first instead of posting before knowing what the problem was!
-
Haven't had time to play much. OCZ 2x2GB 1333 ReaperX at 1600. Don't think the board can hold these timings at 1N with 2GB sticks but gonna give it a shot.

There is a thread about this mobo at ocxtreme.org.
http://ocxtreme.org/forumenus/showthread.php?t=3306
OPB post some SS for bios settings.

So far I didn't see any SS for CL7 running, and others report problems to run memory @ CL7.

Now we have one SS for cl7 timing. :)

It's because new beta bios solves some issues. Now sticks that had C1 error can boot and work (previously no boot at all) and RAM oc with CL7 is much better now. There are still issues with RAM dividers but hopefully they will be fixed
I don't know when that bios will be publicly available though

Guys thanks for all the posted information, much appreciated! With that said what BIOS are you guys currently running, I ask because I've only been able to find access to the 2x BIOS files at DFI's website.

Yep been like that a while I'm using 2:3 divider on the most 500+ fsb shots , probably the most stable & best diider on my GA-X48T-DQ6.
I'm only using cpu-z for verification, using everest cpuid instead which reports correctly

We definitely need some software updates. When manually pulling in tRD phases, Memset misreports the performance level. Everest show the value correctly though.

 Yep guess that's what we get for living on the edge :) , but it is a bit sloppy on the software side seeing as x48 has beemn out a while now really

Managed this one so far OCCT/WPrime stable :).

Nice. Which BIOS are you using. With the posted beta I've found what looks to be good 24/7 settings. E8400, 8x500 FSB with 2x2GB Reaper/1333 at 1666, 7-6-6-20 1T. Hope to have my usual screenies up by the weekend.
-
I'm using the 06/09 official beta, I figured it would be more relevant for the review to use a BIOS that everyone can get hold of.
I will try the TTTT, but after I've done the testing :)
I'll look forward to the screenies then :D

Same BIOS I'm using. And I agree about the importance of the BIOS being available. That's the reason I haven't posted many results. Doesn't matter how good the board is if the BIOS being used isn't available to everyone. So far, the 06/09 seems better then either the TTTT or the 6T. And at least with 2x2GB sticks the yellow slots also seem preferable.
-
This board kicks ass
Anybody looking for a x48 with DDR 3 should go for a P5E3 Premium or this one.

The yellow slots seem to be working better on the 2x1GB OCZ sticks also, but only by a small amount - 2-4FSB  I haven't tried for tighter timings yet, will get to that tonight hopefully.

How are your NB/PWM temps Clunk?

Model 3 I would guess? And whats up with PL=8 for channel A and PL=9 for B?
BTW, why is there no TREF in bios? It should default to 16383 :)

Oskar is tweaking away for bios improvements apparently
as to channel A/B with different PL that's a tweak by adjusting the phases of each channel individually in bios http://i4memory.com/reviewimages/mot..._16_large.html
yeah difference between tREF 6240 vs 16383T is <1-1.5s in super pi 32M but shaves ~0.2ns of everest memory latency heh
