The Antec Three Hundred Case Thread

Hey people, i just got this case for $59.99 @ FRY'S Electronics, let me start off by saying i never thought i would like a case this much, i have paid in the past over $150-300 for as case and did not like it this much, this case has amazing cooling just like the Antecc 900 but for alot less money, I also have the Centurion 590 and like this one much better, build quality is the same as the antec 900. Case is very strudy and fits alot of hardware for its small size, it can fit 3 9800GTX's in SLi with no problem, everything about this case i like, for $60 bucks its amazing, so much value and style for so cheap is great, also i like the fact that its so small and can fit so much inside, cable management was much better than the centurion 590, i will post some pictures soon..........if anyone knows how to do a nice clean window mod, please post in here, anyone else with the case can post pictures and info here, thanks

Build Quality = 9 (only complaint is the side panel, kind of noisy with fan on the side, i think some sound deading sheets can fix this)

My cpu idles at 29-32c on 4 cores, loads in the high 40's, gpu idles at 55c and loads at 60c, temps are great, ive got all 5 fan slots filled.

The 1200 is out already, but it looks bad IMO, this is more compact and cools great, and it only $60 bucks!!!

Actually doesnt look near as horrible as the prototype, I actually like it now. Though the fan cage on the top is still ugly as sin, why would they do that, why not keep the normal top, I mean, were they sitting there and thinking, "we need to make this case ugly some how"

wow didnt even know it was out lol.....yea its kind of big but i want something bigger than the 900 it just does not have enough room....and the cooling on the 1200 will be bad ass

I really like this case. Better intake airflow then the 690, only 1 single 140 on top, and then a 120 on the side. This looks to be a no frills good cooling case which is something I have been waiting for. To bad I already bought a Rocketfish case.

It still doesn't compare to the 900 for me, and im not keen on the meshes in the empty drive bays, they look too shiney, also not keen in the side fan... other than that looks pretty good for the price :up:

wasup, nice rig ! , i have some question for U , what revision is your psu ? U dont have problems whit this 9800gtx ?

Hey, my 9800GTX has a revised cooler, where the power plugs are wider and have no problem with going in, even the older ones, you can push it in with no problems.

the only thing i'm not happy about is the length of the USB, audio, LEDs & power/reset wires - they are all a tad short. I'm impressed that the fans supplied are speed variable tho :)

I'm not saying the Antec 300 is bad at all, but the CM Centurion 590 just seems superior to me in every way for just a few bucks more.

Actually nothing about the 590 is superior besides a bit more space inside, despite having more fans, my 300 cools better than the 590, i have both cases in front of me, i would pick the 300 without a doubt, also the 590's front grill is so fragile, if you grab your case, your going to dent all your grills in the front...........antec FTW after having used both cases.

can you post a comparison pic of the 300 and the 590?

i want to mod my 300 - think i'll put a side window on it :)

the PSU flipping thing: I was hoping that the psu could be mounted fan-down. @ first it seemed like that that could not be done :mad: .. then I thought to myself "I really badly want it down - how hard can it be to drill a few holes & mount it?.." so I wacked it in fan down, looked @ the back & whaddaya know?! it can be mounted either way! :D so a big :up: to antec for giving the consumer the choice! :yepp:

both fans are too loud for my liking - & thats both of them turned to 'L' (low) setting :( - its not *very* loud, just a lil too much for my tastes :| I'm not too worried, as this sys is only temp, & will eventually be re-located to another room, where it can make all the darn noise it wants! :D

I've already wacked on a case sticker too :D

once I had installed my gear, I typically had to plug all me cables back in.. It felt weird looking around the rear-end & finding the psu cable now goes @ the bottom, & the expansion cards & mobo stuff further up :D

I might post pics later.. if anyone is keen..

I think it would be better with the psu fan up, blowing into the case like would if it were top mounted. Anyway here's the manual and it says if the fan is on the bottom of psu to point it up.

That's the case I really like, but I don't think it'll be wide enough for my Xigmatek cooler.

I cant really do a comparison between the 2 since i have sold my cneturion 590, and i can say the antec has much better qualiity than the M9, and much better cooling as well with the PSU on the bottom, the antec doesnt look like its only 60 bucks, the M9 looks cheap and feels like a 50 dollor case, the centurion is much better than the M9, if your shopping for a case in this price range, look no futher than the ANTEC, or the 590, both are great cases, but i personally like the ANTEC a bit more, but very close between the 2, build quality on the 590 and 300 are MUCH, and i mean MUCH, better than the M9, i have built many systems with these cases, they are best sellers because of the price of the cases.

Do the front 2 120mm fans light up?

The 300 does not come with any front fans. The other Tri-Cools are junk any ways. I might pick this case up if I can find it somewhere for free shipping.

Just got the 300, great budget case. got an extra free 120mm fan because antec were having some problems with them post QA. mine were all good though lol.

Tiro if you could post some pics of the insides that would be awesome, im keen to see your cable management with your PSU right-way up. cheers.

PSU fans do not blow air into the system. They suck air out of the system. Also there is no real upside down or right side up to a PSU. You face the fan in the dirrection is will be able to pull the most aitr into the unit.

there is no 'right-way' up ;) Antec has given the consumer which way it goes :up:

Either way, I'm mounting mind so the fan can do it's thing. I don't see how it could blow air out down pointing down.

To be honest I don't like this case. I can't understand why the PSU should be mounted down. Instead of it I'd choose a NSK6000 at any time over it.

check out my pics - look @ the 2nd last one. look closely @ the PSU - notice how its raised from the 'floor' of the case - this gap is plenty for the PSU fan to suck air through :up:

Either way, I'm mounting mine with the fan up so it can draw more air then. I wasn't really trying to discuss which way the air flowed, I know the PSU fan takes air in, just think it would work better pointing up. Not trying to start anargument or anything, I'll probably try it both ways and see if it makes any difference in temps.

mmm.. it would appear that *maybe* the supplied fans arent as noisy as i originally thought.. i put my ear to my pc - my psu fan is spinning kinda fast (& noisy)... looks like i'll experiment by either mounting the other way :D - or i'll open the psu up & connect the fan directly to a 4-pin molex & de-volt it to 7V :D

Out of all the cases I had to choose from, this was the sharpest looking. Doesn't have too many visual frills as most gaming cases. It still looks sharp with all black and blue LED's.

I, myself have an Antec Three Hundred and i love it mainly becuase i got it for only 47$ at microcenter and the build quality is amazing. i'm also interested in finding / modding an acrylic side window and paint the inside of the case. Would be cool if you lived in the OC so we can meet up, i have several acrylic tanks to cut . lol

I have one as well and it is getting HACKED up. :yepp:

I love this case. Easiest case I've ever worked with, so simple and spacious. I'll post some pics of my rig after I redo the cable management. I bought 3 extra scythe fans along with a zalman fan controller to tame them... it keeps things ice cold. I'm considering modding it for some visual flavor after a while.

gratz gar but i think cm 690 is a bit better than this though

This case is 10 degrees cooler at idle and 30 degrees cooler at load than the Sonata it replaces, and I have yet to install any fans other than what it came with :D

I just picked up one of these for £35, which is an awesome price. I'm off to uni in september so thought I'd get something easier to move around than my stacker. XD

The stuff space behind the HDD cage for the spare cables is pretty nice.

Had I considered putting the PSU the other way up I could probably have got the CPU power cable running behind the motherboard, but oh well.

I put 2 120s in the front, and the CPU idles ~4C cooler than in the stacker, and the GPU ~7C cooler idle, heh.

Overall, very pleased with the case for such a small amount of money. Build quality seems really decent, and with all the fans on Low (I have a tri-cool at the front also, and a fan from the stacker on 7v) it is pretty quiet. One complaint is the lack of vibration dampening for the HDDs, meaning my maxtor is having a field day :P

best price/performance case IMO :D

Reminds me of a Cooler Master Centurion RC-590...O I got 1...

Recently built a new rig, it´s good & cheap case and with 2 quiet fans included. Only thing that I don´t like is the hdd cage,
would like a 90degree one instead. And if anyone wondering about noise levels, only thing I can hear now is the pwm controlled cpu HSF :)

Have to make the cable management later(almost like Tiro_uspsss´s), currently the atx 12V 4pin is clamped to the HSF :D

Got one of these last week and started building it up last night, it's a nice case. Just roomy enough, although the cable routing options aren't all that great because of the lack of holes around the 5.25" drive bays. Apart from that it's pretty good.

Photos are taken partway through, I still need to sleeve the PCI-E cable and mount the HDs, although I'm not going for a standard setup for that. I don't want any comments about the paint either, it's purely for when I mount the window, I know there are chips and missed bits all over the place, but they'll never been seen in normal use, the main chamber is well coated.

I made a bit of a hack of cutting the holes for cable routing, but none of them are visible anyway so I guess it doesn't matter - the large hole was for the ATX cable, but in the end it was neater to bundle it with the power and sata cables for the optical drive rather than having it looping around from the back, so it was a wasted cut. I also needed to get an 8-pin power extension cable. I tried running it under the mobo, but it looked neater doing it this way, and it doesn't intefere with closing the right hand side panel, so it's all good.

My camera doesn't seem to like the particular shade of red that I've chosen. In reality it's not so garish and the finish it quite smooth looking...ish.

My plan for mounting the HDs is to combine 2 tips from SPCR. The HDs will be mounted vertically in foam, wedged in an interference fit between the 3.5" bay uprights, and I'll be attaching some W-section aluminium to the sides, both for extra bracing to keep things fairly rigid, but also to act as a heatsink and keep temps down without needing much airflow - this suspension coupled with the heatsinks should make them as silent as possible without risking overheating which killed my old Spinpoint. Obviously once they're in I'll take more photos, but the idea is that from the side they won't be at all visible.

That's beautiful mate, the colours are really really nice.. but i guess you're right, the camera doesn't do the colours any justice. I'd like to see some pics of the final thing when you've got your hard drives installed and stuff, it sounds really interesting. I'm too scared about hacking up my case :')
Although when you attach the sata data cables, it really messes things up.. especially when you have got sata ports all over the shop!

I used this case for my new build and i must say i was very very impressed, only thing missing is a side window and this thing will be flawless. I love it i will post pictures later i have to go to class now....school FTL!!

I just got one of these since newegg had a great deal on the case + antec's 500 watt earthwatts psu for $85 shipped. :D

How many fans do you guys think I'd need to cool a mobo w/ 4 video cards? I am currently using the case for a htpc, but my rocketfish stays too hot with that many video cards (its a folding farm) and I need much better air flow, so I'll switch eventually.

The 300 comes with a 120 in the rear and a 140 up top. It has mounts for 2 additional 120's in the front. If you replace the stock fans with better ones and put some high-CFM 120's in the front 2 slots, you might be okay. A lot of your final temps are going to be determined by how hot well your video cards cool themselves to begin with. (I know, "Duh", right?:p:)

I would definitely suggest doing some airflow mods to the front and rear fan locations by clearing away the stock sheetmetal and replacing it with some good free-flowing grilles. You might also consider doing a bottom mounted fan. Depending on how ambitious you are, you might even consider replacing the front-panel mesh with a more open pattern of modders mesh for better flow.

One thing that I would also watch out for is your CPU temps. I'm sure that you know how heat rises and your processor is going to be sitting there right above those 4 GPU's. I would seriously recommend a top-notch CPU cooler.

Another big concern that I would have is whether you will have room for all of those cards behind the 3.5" drive bays. You might end up doing some cutting to get the fit right.

Whatever you decide to do, give us some pics of the process and the end result. The 300 is a great case, especially for the price, and it should be used and modded more.

I'm thinking of getting some zalman ZM-F3's, leaving the 140mm fan as stock.

My folding farm is an msi-k9a2 and will be populated w/ four 9600gso's. They aren't long cards (shorter than the mobo itself). My cpu heatsink is an xigmatek s-1283, so I think I have cooling down. Folding only requires about 50% cpu utilization max for 4 cards in vista x64. As you can see, the cards do not move air out of the case:

Thanks! It stays nice and cool up there. I had to mount it upside down, but that doesn't seem to cause any issues. It's attached to the top of the case with a 3.5" to 5.25" drive adapter. I used the bottom tapped screw holes on the adapter to mount it to the top of the case.

Thanks. I think I'm pretty much done with "modding" it for now. I might cut a hole up top so I don't have to have the 12v connector routing over top of the video card, but I'm pretty content with leaving it how it is.

Here's some from my recent build. Today I cut some holes into the case and finalized the cable management. Deciding whether or not to paint the inside black...

-Drilled holes into case for cable management
-Painted the yellow SATA cables black
-Painted rear I/O shield black
-Painted rear slots black (Including from g-card & sound card)

I stuck mine in an aluminum Vantec external enclosure. There's no space for one in there anywhere anymore.

Since im getting rid of my watercooling and all that stuff, and getting a 4870x2 im allso gonna get a new case. So the big question is..... Will a 4870x2 fit in a antec 300? without doing any dremel work on the hdd rack?:)

Under Prime small FFTs I see 60C. I've seen as high as 80 on Linpak. These remps are better than the GT did, and I've got a video card in the loop too! I'm seeing peak temps of 40C on the GPUs under furmark.

could you could keep the top 5.25" bays and install a 240mm rad under where the 3.5" bays were?

Yes, I had an MCR220 down there before I removed the 5.25" bays.

cool i might give that a shot for my next build. kinda wanna go watercooling and i need a midtower so this case is hard to pass up at this price

i just added some blacklights behind my tinted window on my blacked out 300...
