Then why not 8800GTS 640?
Because g92 is better then g90. Small core revision between those :)
So, 8800GT is my choice?
probably with the price/performance right now. But do your due research as well.
Actually, I've Radeon X1950GT 256 Mb and it's enough for me. My friend is going to grab a new PC and he asked me to know what to choose from those cards.
Personally, I play only Quake 3 and Starcraft: Broodwar :), but X1950GT was able to run colin mcrae DiRT on my 20" Samsung 206BW.
Well, I can't say what settings I used as I don't remember them, but I can say they weren't the lowest.
Well it wasn't really playable ( read = enjoyable ) so maybe I should count it as being able to run it :)
Ok, but let's return to the main topic of the discussion. Should I get 8800GT or 8800GTS? Or 9800GT?
when did the 9800 gt come out?
i don't see them for sale yet either. they better hurry because the Radeon 4870 is going to be faster than the 9800 GT. i'm not sure about the 4850 though, which will probably be priced to compete directly with the 98 GT. the 4870 will probably cost around the same as a 9800 GTX.
+1 :up:Quote:
I personally would get the 8800GTS 512m "G92"
Are you really sure, that price difference between a new and an old 8800GTS isn't much? I heard a new one is noticeably more expensive, isn't it? Anyway will the overpayment be worth?
for me it would be hands down 88000gts 512 g92...
in fact I've almost pulled the trigger on this one several times in the past couple months.
$195 after mir (Free Witcher PC game)
MSI NX8800GTS 512M OC GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready

but my 2900pro is fine, until these newer cards this summer.
Go with the 8800GTS 512mb (g92). It is the best bang for the buck card, availiable right now. Also It's basicly the same thing as the 9800GTX, minus
3way SLI support.
Ok, thanks to all.
and i think we have a winner......

CandymanCan, thanks for the detailed explanation.
it isn't quite true, but i suppose it's close enough. the 8800 GTX has the older G80 core, lower clocks, and a wider memory bus.
Am looking for one myself, but i read something about a '9900GTS' and '9900GTX' with something like a GT200 core?
Read it here.
Is this bull or are they really coming out around the summer?
Also read here (in dutch);
Something about 200 SP's..
That the 9900GTX should get a 512bit bus and the 9900GTS a 448bit memory bus.
With the 9900GTX 1Gig of memory and the 9900GTX 896MB of memory
But most of the time it's just guessing what they do at that site..
Anyone as some solid info on it?
For me there's no necessity to have 1 Gb RAM on gpu...
the 9900 GTX is not a rumor. i believe they're scheduled for a July release and it is going to be a monster. big, hot, and fast. it will probably be a dual core card.
Then the 9900GTS would be a Single card GPU?
Hope that it is also not a rumor than.
Otherwise my MCW60 won't fit i guess.
you never know wats gonna happen...there prolly trin to get you nvidia guys to hold out longer if the 4870 is going to be wats expected..

IF this is true, what is that little chip-alike thingy on the left of the card?
