** CM 690 -> PC 7B Worklog **

Hello :p:

I bought myself a Lian li PC - 7B to swap from a CM 690

The coolermaster is an amazing case, but i want something that looks a bit nicer, something smaller that i can keep my loop internal for (as i attened more lan's now'adays.) Plus my external mount of my CM 690 is fugly.

I recieved the case yesterda, and since then i have abeen a busy bee :yepp:

We start with a stealth bay

I havent decided where to mount the switch yet, any suggestions??

Now for cable holes. I created a large hole to route power cables behind the mobo tray area, along with a smaller hole to route my 4 pin ATX power connector.

I also made two holes for front panel connectors and USB headers. These are pretty tatty, but i think small holes are hard to make with a dremel, the motherboard will cover most of the mess anyway :up:

I have also sleeved the front panel connectors and some fans
NOTE, the front grill for the intake fan is gone

And the main bulk of the work i have completed is a top blow hole and fill port.

Thats all i have done so far.

I now need to go about cutting the bottom of the case to fit my MCR 320 radiator, its going to be tight, but im hopefull it will fit :rofl:

I also want to cut myself a simple square transparent window soon.

The one thing that is going to make my scratch my head is mounting my pump, the barbs on the top of the pump and my radiator wont be flush i dont think :rolleyes:

I also want to decide on what i want to do about a fan controller.

However i dont realy want to use these for this case, i want to keep it stealthed, hence the stealth drive.

Any suggestions on this problem would be appreciated, as well as any other comments :D

EDIT April 30th

Got home this afternoon and cut out the radiator hole. Its going to be a very tight fit, but it will fit, if my cuts are accurate :)

There wont be enough room at the fron for an intake fan, but i may have an idea of getting it to fit there....


Please dont flame me for the rough cuts, its not going to be visible so i didnt spend my time making it look pretty :)

It is annoying, i want to put the radiator in there along with the pump to work some stuff out, but its being used on my computer and i dont want to have to drain it tonight :(

I spent all of yesterday afternoon setting this all up, and its done :D

I cant belive how long it takes to fill a system running off a t line :down: Took me the best part of an hour :ROTF:

It was a real tight fit getting the fornt panel cables and the sata cables to fit , the radiator squishes them into place.

Im pretty happy with how its turned out, its all fit, which is the main thing, i even managed to fit a high cfm front intake fan, which i didnt think id be able to when i measured it all up, which says something about my measurements :ROTF:

Things i just need to do now would be

Sleeve and shorten that fugly blue pump power cable.
Sort some fan controls out
Add my white cathodes
Cut side window

Any comments ?? As far as im aware, this hasnt been done in a PC - 7 before :shrug:

Yeah thats true, they have done three revisions to it all ready, this is rev 2 i believe

Don't use a switch for the cd drive, use a hot key. :)

Thank you, you preferred my CM 690? i got bored of it, it looked ugly with an external radiator, and i did an awfull paint job with it. I love these lian li cases, aluminum is gorgeous in person :yepp:

This is a good Controller for the price, 20w/Channel

I like both of these, but i want to keep the front of my case smooth and stealth ed, the rehobus wont do this, i dont want to go to the trouble of making a face plate for it, ill only mess it up, i love the kazmaster, but its a lot of money for what it is.

I was thinking of maybe just swaping some molex pins so every fan is running at 5 V. It's just a bit of a task if i want to overclock to the max and run some benchies :(

I dont know how much it could handle though, and where could i mount it?

I can run my fans at 5 and 7 V and whenever i want 12V (benching or in hot summer days) i can just quickly re plug them.

ALSO

Has anyone any suggestions on a side window. I want to show the right side (pump) as well as the motherboard area, but i wont want one large rectangle showing the 5 " bays, it will look dire

Iv cut my window.

I couldnt get a good finish on the edges, so im using recycled rubber edging until chilled pc gets some back in stock, unless anyone else knows where i can get some....

Ive also ordered a rehobus, which should be here tomrow, and will get a lian li bezel onto it for looks.

You could get a really small button and mount it in one of the vent holes on the front...
or rewire the reset button or something...

Ive done it now, i placed a push button on the top of the front of the case, a picture will come soon

After what i thought to be a rude reply from MNPCtech about their case feet, i went down to my local hombase store and picked up some single wheel castors, to lift the case off the floor to allow more airflow to my radiator fans.

My sunbeam rehobus came too, i realy dont like this product, it seems that the twist between 5 V and 12V is very small, and the fans turn off when the knob is lamost half way twisted in some cases :(
Ill cover it up with a lian li bezal, has anyone any links or pics to anyone who has done this before??

I love the stealth bay idea. That's awesome. you already know but the button for it, uhm yeah. Maybe you could switch the button out for something a little more low profile and instead of that huge thing sticking out. Just a thought.

I've steathed my Rheobus, dont have nay pics of the process however. :p:

it was really easy I just took the rheobus apart.
Covered the Lian Li cover in tape (to protect the surface)
layed the sunbeam cover over the lian li one, and transferred the hole alignment.

Got my hand drill and drilled holes in increasing increment so as to not warp the metal.
I also put a piece of wood under the bezel while drilling.
Then i put the sunbeam (sans stock cover) into the lian li cover

Note i didn't drill the LED holes, look better in my opinion without them.

Biftek, thats the exact advice i was after, was it hard to do? i dont want the led's showing either :)

What did you use to fasten the bezel to the controller??

Youve done a great job with it, can you remember the size of the hole that needs to be made??

Nope took me all of 45 minutes maybe. :D

The rheobuses are actually what is attaching the bezel to the controller, the same way they do on the stock cover.
Once you take the plastic knobs off of yours, and take it apart it'll make more since. ;)

As for the plastic knobs, they just pull off. you might have to pull pretty hard but you wont break it. :) then there are 4 large nuts that you remove hidden behind the plastic knobs you just removed. then take the two screws that hold the bezel to the pcb out.
Then the actual controller will come apart from the bezel.

Those 4 large nuts that I mentioned are all that supports the controller to the lian li bezel.
Again, it'll make more since when you take your sunbeam apart.

As for the holes, I don't exactly remember the size bit I used. i just went with the closest bit I had to the stock holes. in fact my holes were a tad smaller that the stock ones, but it didn't matter.
if you don't have a collection of bit's like i do, just take the bezel to your local hardware store and compare them there :up:
