I know it's a waste of money, but look at aqua computers new 4drive hardrive waterblock (copper, delrin, stainless steel and 4 aluminum front bays, and see through resevoir)

it does look very nice indeed..however im kinda curious about the performance..looks like the copper plates are on the sides:eek: then on the othe rhand HDD's dont need to be running low temps anyway...
does this work as noise dampener too?
i Like AC's Finish look, the modern metallic look is nice. goes well with the proper theme.
I was just wondering why nobody built a 4 HDD enclosure with watercooling yesterday and poof, AC came to the rescue :rofl:
This would probably cost a lot but in terms of performance, does it really do the job well?
I'd rather have the copper blocks along the top and/or bottom of the HDD, as those seem to be the spots that accumulate heat (plus more surface area).
It looks like it would be pretty restrictive too.
BUT it is awful pretty :)
Now I see something totally different.
No Hard drives, but mount some TEC's to those nice copper plates and turn up the voltage and start cooling the water......
then run it straight to the CPU Mahahahaha
Who sells them I can't seem to find them....

NICE. I wonder how well does it dampen sound. I think it would be really appealing for those looking into dampening HDD sound. That's the only reason I'd get one of these...
I never understand why do we need all these hard disk water blocks. I mean, if you're on a normal SATA, it ain't that hot unless you're talking about dual Raptors in RAID.
But hard drives like heat!
if you cool your hard drives too much it is more prone to failure :(

"Cool" hard drives tend to fail more than "hot" drives...you need to aim for warm :)
If they made this into a NAS where you could have RAID 0/1/5/10 setup then it would be a dream piece of kit. As it stands though its just more overpriced garbage that only dumbasses would buy.

But on a serious note, a fan is enough to keep hard drives cool. If your looking at this unit i hope its for silence and cooling. And not just for cooling. Because i heard somewhere that is better to have hard drives run @ 30-40C instead of keeping them super cold all the time.

Its good because it saves some space. If it wasn't with this block I wouldn't put 4 hd's close like this.
Meh, hard drive coolers always seemed to me like nothing more than a flow killer.
I don't see the point in cooling your HDDs.
Definitely cool looking.
Dont personally see the reason for HDD waterblocks though unless its in a sound dampening enclosure and the watercooling is to counteract the added heat from being enclosed.
You know, for all those people running 15,000rpm SCSI drives.

In the days of the original BF2 game, hardware was the severe limitation, much like Crysis now. Some people were loading maps in 90 seconds. I was in within 28 to 30 seconds. The first person gets the helicopter or the jet. Eight stripped drives with one swap worked quite well. I even went eight drives and four as a swap. That was just fabulous. Ever fresh installed windows in 6 minutes (and I'm not talking about win95) ?

HDD blocks do make good TEC chillers. These look like they are around 120 mm x 120 mm so could house four 50 mm or perhaps four 62 mm TECsQuote:

Hmmm, I wouldn't mind getting one of these if the acoustic specs were avaliable. I work swing shift and do alot of gaming after I get home (~1am) so my raptor's have killed me in CS:S more than a few times. I hate headphones so somthing like this might allow me to hear well enough with the volume almost muted.

I thought I have a pretty quiet machine and I really don't hear a thing from my HDDs. And they are mounted directly onto the aluminum carriers too, so they theoretically ought to buzz the aluminum case like tomorrow. No, I don't hear the vibration.
Hell, when I game at night even with the speakers off, the stuff that makes the most noise is my fat ass shifting in my chair and my clumsy hands moving the mouse all over the table lol
