oc more to 4.59G
4.6G
I don't want to kill the chip under air cooling
so just stop test at 4.7G
voltage below 1.5V
that is one hot CPU
are you sure that is the REAL vcore
have you measured it with a DMM as your idle temps are scary high for the vcore used
what were the ambient temps???
with that sort of vcore i'm sure you could probably get the chip to do 4.8 or even 4.9 1M runs
max FSB?
air cooling condition - my desktop

Good job, congrats on the excellent clocks!
4.7ghz!
heres my 4.5ghz running prime @ 78C with 1.42Vcore [Ultra 120]
[had to clockgen up cuz my ST ram suxored.]
Some time ago I tested one E8400, about 4GHz, 1.3v and 102'C :D . That was hot one ;)
i have a couple E8400's that idle close to 50c at al stock settings according to coretemp. i've checked it with a temp probe and laser and they both show approx 32c. i think coretemp is wrong and everyone that posted in that thread said i was an idiot for thinking coretemp was wrong...
most software reading temp data off the dts @ idle speeds would be wrong with current penryns. Accuracy @ load is more important, its either 60C in Coretemp or 50C in Realtemp. Only important data is delta to Tjmax which is given by the DTS anyway. Good to know that you were correct though!
9 times out of 10, High Vcore should be the main concern with the 45nm chips. (unless you're just a noob about cooling it) heheh
batch?
I received a Q750A151 E8400 ,no vcore needed .
On air with OCZ vendicator .Temp = 36° idle.

But ,it's more hot than my Xeon E3110 with less Vcore.
My Xeon E3110 do 5GHz with 1.58V under water. And 3D bench @4.6GHz with 1.55V
I continue some tests and bench with this cpu.
I think it's pretty common for E8400's to hit 4.5Ghz benchable. Unless we're saying it's stable at 4.5Ghz then it's something special. As for the temps, most of these CPU's often comes with a faulty digital thermal sensor so it is not accurate.
Nice chip erickwok , please tell us the FPO :).
how about this :
4g sp2004 test
and a short test at 4.05g sp2004
I am amazed erickwok, my E8400 needs 1.36 V for 3.8 GHz and I can't get it stable at 4 GHz with below 1.4 V. Right now I'm not willing to go above, unless somebody can convince me that it's ok to do so. :p: Been having so many problems lately that I crave stability.
hmm isnt these cpus read wrong temp with coretemp you tried realtemp? i needed to change bios to get the right temp, when i did got a E8400 ^^

Vcore : 1.58V Asus :)
I must to find the good settings .
I do 5085MHz and 570MHz of FSB on P35-DS4 and DFI P965-S.
I try on this week on a Blood Iron.
On the future ,i hope pass it on DI or Cascade or LN2.
I do all bench now :D
I am just getting started with new parts for testing... So many people afraid of 1.4v and not sure why?
Temps seem very fine to me! Under normal day-to-day use and gaming;
Idle @ 40c
Load @ 60c
As you see, 72c is max with prime95, and test did run for 24 hours no problems.
I suppose I will go back into bios and drop more volts, see how low I can on volts and keep stable...
Did I mention this is on stock intel box cooler?
Hi eric
I too own P5K premium bios 504 actually , did you test max fsb yet ?
I just success 540 max fsb with 504 bios ( my xeon did same with P5KC bios 903 RMA ) air cooling TRUE 120
I'd like to know max fsb with bios 404 and if bios settings same as 504 .
Could you please give me yours to compare ?
Regards
mykou
Hi dinos
Maybe I'm wrong , but I noticed most of chips with lower vid than others are getting pretty hot as my xeon E3110
Q807 which vid is 1.07 ( eric 's lower too 1.06 ) and temps on core were around 72° ( core temp 0.97 ) priming 4ghz small ffts ( +4h) with TRUE 120 and only needed 1.20v load .
my xeon Q746 with vid 1.125 has max temp 10° lower with same conditions and cooling .
Maybe my brain's working too hard  :yepp:
cheers
mykou
Hi Mykou
When using bios 0504, voltage requires 0.01V more to run prime95 (see attached photos)
the max FSB of my E8400 is about 530 using P5K Premium
Q745A576 - some results, but I don't think this is extreme overclocking, just simple air. I do think that this will be an excellent chip for extreme overclocking when I finally get the pots.

PLL 1.58
VTT 1.23
thanks for reply
Maybe I will give a try so , do you confirm when using 404 there is no more 0.5 multi ?
yes it seems to have lot of potential like my former Q807A091 vid 1.07 :D

Sorry for double post...
Very nice voltage/clock there Nordling!
Hi Nordling
after updating another new bios 0612, here :
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socke...emium-0612.zip
it seems more stable under low voltage ........... 4G at 1.16V
passed 1m, 4m, 8m and 16m superpi
Nordling, what batch, that looks good.
4G at 1.20V prime95:clap:
e8400 1.26 Vcore 4308 Mhz Air cooler
Nordling what's the batch?
And here I am with my e8500 that needs 1.28v for 4ghz... omg...
my Q806
CPU Volt=Auto(1.496V in windows)

how about 600x6 ??
and have you tried OCQQ watercooling set ??

Not to be confused with my watercooled rig....
I run one of my E8400's in an air-cooled system powered up on my P5K-E Wifi.
I have been torturing it for months with volts never going under 1.52volts. It has held up just perfectly. I run daily at 500fsb x 9 = 4500 mhz. I run my G.Skill HZ on the 5:6 divider for a nice mem speed of 1200mhz with my timings set at 5-5-5-5. It gives it more punch than 1:1 with my timings set at 4-4-4-4. Although when you start getting up into the highest reaches of the fsb it is best to fall back to 1:1 at least for now. I also tighten my sub-timings in the bios it looks like this 5-5-5-5-6-30-6-4-4.
My mem is running at 2.15v . NB is 1.55, SB is 1.2 V-core is at 1.55 in bios I don't mind running as high as 1.618v at the highest clocks. My temps have never gone higher than 57C no matter what I am doing.
Here is my Daily clock:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...lla/yikers.jpg
I ran an Aquamark pass so you could see that it scoires a pretty sweet CPU score with the 5:6 mem timings. I ran a double instance of pi just cuz...:yepp:
Here is your proof that I am running this today:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...la/proof-1.jpg
Here is my best pi time so far with this board;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...illa/piguy.jpg
Here is my highest fsb with the 8.5 multi:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Zilla/85pi.jpg
This is a very satisfying system that just runs and runs.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_4215.jpg
What you do not see in this pic is the 4 inch dryer hose that is hooked to the 4inch squirrel cage fan that sits outside in the cool seasons and sits inside in front of the AC unit when it is hot outside.
This is why My machine runs so cool no matter what you stress it with.
That is 265 cu.ft. of air a minute running over mt memory ,northbridge and through the Scythe cooler.
WZ
You lucky low voltage guys! Damn!
My batch is Q746A500
How hard would it be to get a 8400 up to 4ghz with aircooling, 7 120mm fan, Noctua u9b cpu cooler, 4gb of Mushkin Redline pc-8000 and an Evga 750i ftw board.
My E8400 is sitting on IP35Pro, with 2GB of RAM Mushkin EC-PC 6400, cooled by ThermalRhigt Ultra 120 Extreem with standard 1x120cm Fan, can reach 4Ghz easy.
I use 446x9 for daily use, but my best in air is this : http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=331771

Today I have done some tuning in P5K Premium Bios :
*************cpu ratio setting :
1. set AUTO first
2. when appear INTEL SPEEDSTEP option ---> set disabled
3. and then coming back to re-set cpu ratio to '9' again
CIE support : Disabled
Max CPUID Value Limit : Disabled
Vaderpool Technology : Disabled
CPU TM Function : Disabled
Execute Disable Bit : Disabled
DDR2 : 450x9 = 900 at 5-5-5-15-3-42-6-3-3
DRAM static read control : Disabled
Transaction Booster : Disabled
CPU PLL Voltage : Auto
FSB Voltage : Auto
N/B Voltage : Auto
S/B Voltage : Auto
DRAM Volage : 2V
Clock Overcharging Voltage : Auto
Low-Line Calibration : Enabled <------------- Very Important to keep stable CPU Voltage
GPU GTL Voltage Reference : 0.63x
NB GTL Voltage Reference : 0.67x
CPU Spread Spectrum : Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum : Disabled
Then new results of lowest 4G superpi 32M and 4.05G prime95 appear ..............
I would suggest that anything less than 8 hours on prime95, or orthos, to not be verified stable.
Eric, I got it!
Thx for your advice
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...anity/601a.jpg
I don't see what you guys are doing, Super PI does not test stability, it measures speed.
Sure I could clock my wolfdale up to 4.5-4.7 and run super PI, wow.
Prime dual thread blend at least, or orthos, or just playing damn crysis will let you know what's really stable.
if you think super pi means your system is stable, my money's on that it is not.
alright, here is a short test http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...sanity/6-1.jpg
I won't clock higher for daily usage, so 4GHz is enough for me.
Yes, 4ghz prime stable is nice, an easy hit too.
I found anything past 4ghz was a challenge to get prime stable, not impossible though.
4.4 and up on air is not really possible with prime. With my orchi, I got as high as 4.36ghz which is good enough until I go water :)
But this is the extreme overclocking section not the extremely stable section. I think the point of most of these posts was to show the potential of the new chips. Noones going to be testing stability with ln2.
I totally agree with you, mrcape
he may enter into wrong forum to find stable cpu ;)
here is my recent short test at 4G

Just arrived my new Toy....
I have Problems with Temps because i use a 5 Euro Cooler but soon i hope my watercooling will be ready for action again....:D
I set 1.18 Vcore from BIOS
Its not Stable but it will be.....

I think with water 5Ghz is Possible....
Q814A3?? i will check later
Very low voltage for this clock.. awesome... cant wait to see your water results. with better temps you can push it higher :)

My P5K Pro tops out about 545 FSB at dafeult BIOS options...
Still unmoded and i dont know about max CPU FSB..
Its a Good Chip but need to drop temps... :D
I stay here for 24/7 until watercooling be ready....
