w00t this could boost Folding big time :D
I love CELL technology. it's the one and only spec I like about the PS3.
hmmm.....now what can we gamers use this card for??
Isn't cell very suitable for physics calculations?
You can crunch while you game... for one... :p:
The cell is one of the strongest chips for ray-tracing...
Perhaps they need alle the PCB real estate to place a humongous cooler?:D
anyone else notice that ti's PCI-e 1x

they cant even get folding working on modern graphics cards lol
PS3 emulator, step one :D
so this means that toshiba will also be releasing their cell based TVs and Lappys soon....boo-ya
Now this I can definitely see a use for :D (soon we'll have teraflop PCs :D )
needs more SPE's and ability to put multiple cell cpu's on each card lol ;)
now nobody can say the 1x pci-e slot has no uses lol.
Interesting but needs a "killer app" to help sell the thing and build up support for it.
Hate to see it go the way of the PPU.
H.264 hardware encoding sounds sweet :)
But this is cripled version of CELL?
We need 4 of those in one card so crunching will be fun :D
Can QMC be Cruched with CELL?
very cool, but have a feeling this is just a ruff prototype. Great concept though, the next few years will be interesting to say the least.
1x pcie? 4x will need to be used at least imo, 2.5Gbps is too little headroom for any serious computations, but for hd encoding should just be right on the mark, still extra headroom from 4x or even 8x slot would be bestt
Cell is very nice, the FAH numbers on PS3 are just insane, they are over a Petaflop now. RSX is g7x garbage (man I hate that texture shimmering) and much weaker than Xenos, and 360 has the better controller. I hate Xbox Live so I couldn't care less about that, but BluRay is very nice and they PS3 has mandatory HD caching for every game and is damn quiet compared to my blender of a 360.
I'm confused...how can this card be utilized in a PC?
Cool.. would be great for a HTPC. For a general gaming rig probably not the best for, but then again it might work and reduce the load on the CPU/GPU alot. Not bad for a lower powered solution.
Maybe ATI or Nvidia will enable video encoding on their cards to compete. That would be nice. Either way, I can't wait to see it get hacked so we can fold on it or emulate a weak PS3. This kind of device is fodder for the hacker community.
Last August it was announced that both Side Effects and mental images are working with Sony in developing their new Cell Computing Board, supposedly due to be demonstrated in the second half of 2008. This seems like an altogether meatier offering. Though since that announcement, mental images was bought-out by nvidia, so who knows what the latest is there.
