What's the VID?
is it supposed to say on the box? i cant check it in cpuz yet because im waiting for the motherboard to come. gigabyte ds3r
but this german forum (i dont speak german) i think says that one guys L803 batch cpu has 1.325vid, thats really bad, right?
http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/show...470382&page=20
"Hab meinem Cousin heute einen L803 eingebaut.. VID war 1,325. Also beschissen
haben die neueren CPUs alle so ein ''loch'' an der seite wo sie eingebaut werden müssen?
"
do all cpus that have the same 4 letters starting have the same vid? mine is L803B116, while the one in the forum is (you can see in the picture) L803A484
That appears to be a tray version on the German site. General consensus is the boxed versions are binned a bit better (center of the wafer, rather than edge).
The poster is complaining about the vent hole on the IHS.
In any case I wouldn't worry about what the box says too much as mine (batch L738B024) said "1.35V max" on it but I have it running at 3.2ghz w/ 1.26V 24/7 100% load, temps 50-55C using the questionable Asus silent square air cooler.Quote:
Have my cousin today L803 added .. VID war 1,325. VID was 1.325. So [poopy] :D
Have all the newer CPUs as a''hole''on the side where they need to be built?
mine has this hole as well, i never noticed it before.. btw my box is not the typical light blue but more of the color you get an e8400 in.. which is strange
should i return this proc before i even open it?
tray means oem with no cooler right? mine comes with HS.. maybe i should try to post a pic of this box
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=267845
another guy with a hole.. his hits 3.6 at 1.48v.. this doesnt look good
FµCK... I bought a new box on Saturday... L804...
It has that hole too.
The box is open but packaging inside is still sealed... Fry's will still let me return it within 13 days...
If you want a pic of my box.. here it is...
My Camera isn't manual focus, so close up pictures are really blurry...
My QX9650 has that hole looking imprint on it also....
Mine is a L804, with no hole, but is very bad also. VID 1,325V and need the same 1,48V to be Prime stable at 3600.
I guess the newer Q66 aren't as good as the older G0 weeks.
[ ]s
Do you guys have the box or OEM version?
omfg
returning today for a different g0... if i cant get a different one should i just sit without a cpu for a week or something? god dam i cant imagine the heat high 1.4 v range quad would throw out
im only on a tr ultra 120 and i really want 3.6ghz
Chances are you'll get the same week even if you wait.
I got mine for 189.99, and the sale ends today...
He said he HIT 3.6... 1.48v isn't necessarily what he NEEDS for stability.
Plus, as mentioned earlier, box versions are better than OEM trays.
he said 1.48 for prime stable..
can you please fire up that cpu since the box is open.. or do you dont have a different cooler to do it with (cant return if the tim is used on the cooler)
i want to know if i should definitely return or not
I have no motherboard. This Proc is for my new PC in about 2 months, and I can still return it with the box open.
Thank Fry's :)
I'm going water for my new build, so if this processor can do 3.7/3.8 with 1.5ish, then I'm good.
I also have that hole you speak of with the Q6600 I just bought 4 hours ago from Fry's but with a L741A963 / VID = 1.2125
what the hell is the hole for anyways?!
It's not as bad as it may look like heheheh
Even at 1,48V the temps are under control, ~65°C on the hottest core under Prime, and I don't have the best cooling, it's a Scythe Ninja working in a 25°C room, so you guys that have TRUE setups will have better temps for sure.
Just for the record, my processor is boxed.
Reaching 3600 is not that hard, even with the "bad" ones, the problem is to get stable at 3800 and plus, this indeed will need a better silicon.

I just ordered an oem from newegg. Should be here possibly tomorrow but friday for sure so I'll post back what they give me. 3.6 with 1.48 isn't great but with really good air if I can keep temps like mid 50's 100% 24/7 crunching I'll live with it.
Aight, I guess I'm stuck with some über suckage. Hope the VID isn't too bad.
Loser777, i got my q6600 from frys as well... i returned it like 20x so just abuse their return policy until you get a good one. i opened every box, and tested every processor btw. frys has a stupid return policy (stupid in the sense that they are stupid for offering the ability to test for 15 days then return or exchange for no reason)
i got a l745 batch from frys not too long ago, and thats the one i kept :)
whats microcenters return policy.. im thinking of opening it.. but probably will just return it and buy one from frys up the road.. its like a 20 minute drive from frys to my house though, so its a pita to go back and forth..
can you use the stock heatsink if you buy from frys just to check VID? i cant imagine remounting my ultra 120 extreme so many times..
Uh, I don't have a motherboard for the Q6600 to test it yet, so I'm pretty stuck there... Plus, I already got a L804 batch, so I'm probably going to get an even NEWER one...
Are all the processors in a certain week ALL doomed with the same VID? If so then I'm pretty much screwed.
Is there some way I can check VID without a motherboard?
Yeap, I was at MicroCenter earlier and I also saw a really light blue Quad
Q6600 box over as well. Seems like Intel just recently changed to these light blue box. I also saw a few more faded/teal bluish box of the original color, so I'm sure MC has both in stock. I wasn't able to make out what the batch number was for the light blue Q6600. It was somewhat stuck in between a few other CPU boxes, so I couldn't read the batch info. It might be an '08 batch as well.
Anyone else who can confirm that this batch sucks?
i went to microcenter today and told them my concerns, they let me look at their procs and i found one last l737b q6600. they let me exchange right away
this batch can hit 3.6ghz with like 1.3v according do the quad OC database

i love microcenter customer service

my 737b668 had a high vid... 1.325
what are the last 3 numbers? it seems that the lower numbered ones were better. of course this is speculation through observation.
im probably going to get phase change and another processor... mabye a e8400 to run some superpi on then i will more than likely give it to my girlfriend
l737b046
anxious to check VID when my motherboard comes...
http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=5554808
quoting sno.lcn
"My L737B046 is pretty decent. Goes up to 4.2ghz on 1.4v, I've had it up to 4.6ghz on 1.55v (subzero cooling obviously)
Unfortunately I have no idea how it does as a daily driver I'll post back when I find out though "
will get my motherboard tommorow.. i will post back then

This is the oem I just got today from newegg. Unfortunately mobo won't be here 'til tomorrow. An off topic heads up too just in case anyone cares. A-Data vitesta extreme ddr2 800 c4 2x2gb kits are $80 at newegg.
killing you? i am waiting on a friggin cryo-z! negatemps w00t!
we will see what my q6600 can REALLY do by the end of next week :yepp:
(was going to get a q9550, but decided on phase change unit instead... saved me a few $$$ while i was at it too)
Wow, the last three digits on mine are 667... Can anyone verify more about the L803 and L804 batches instead of posting info about L737s?
/Bump...
@loonym
Where did your Q6600 get shipped from? The Newegg warehouse in the West or in the East? If in the East then I'm jumping on that right now... I'm not taking a chance with this one, since its a rumored crappy batch AND the last three digits are fairly high... (667)
Not at Fry's
Can I see procesor without opening (i mean to read batch)?
I just got a L746A265, and the damn thing clocks like crap.
my vid is 1.2125 i think, i stayed up till 2 am last night putting my rig together again.. and i think thats what i saw in coretemp...

will post OC results later.. need to get my programs installed and stuff....
btw is there any way to control the dam chasis fans on the ds3r.. my fans are going full atm and it sounds like a :banana::banana::banana:ing jet engine
yea its 1.2125... this is awesome... i wonder how high my fsb will go on air with an ultra 120 extreme...
1.2125 is jackpot!:rocker:
Mine is 1.3250 :(
god damit, i have to reinstall windows again because when i installed chipset drivers my internet connection wouldnt work... i just had to reset my router but noooooo... i uninstalled the chipset drivers , when i try to reinstall them it says they are installed allready...
another hour wasted...
also, this motherboard has crazy amounts of options, im going to be asking about them like all day :P
Aight, I'm getting an OEM off of newegg right away. Seems they still might have some older batches... THEY BETTER HAVE SOME.
im really glad i went and exchanged mine, i hope those l803/4 are not too bad you could always ebay the proc for $150(guessed price) and get a different batch
Ebay is a big nono for me, I got scammed when I was buying a motherboard for my PSP there...
I wonder if all OEM Q6600s ship from NJ, because if they do then I have a pretty good chance of stumbling on a good one...
I might also go to Fry's and ask if they have some of the lighter blue boxes left, which indicate a lower/better batch. This seems unlikely because last time the guy was like "I'll see if we have any in stock... we might have gotten a new shipment" -.-'
Anyone else quad has a lower vid than mine 1.20v? i am at 3.8ghz with 1.43v stable.
My L803 has a VID of 1.3V....
i have a L745B157 vid is 1.2125 iirc, does 4.0ghz 1.4v stable on water.
i couldn't break 3.8ghz with my Maximus Formula, so i threw it in a DFI LP LT P35-T2R and it'll hit 4.4ghz, but the temp get so high, 4.0ghz seems to be the best i can do with water and have a good margin of stability.
For now I am leaving mine at 3.2, too lazy to fiddle with it anymore.
i was lucky enough to be stuck 10 min between 2 frys so i picked the best one from 2 stores :D
nice
btw this board has HORRIBLE VDROP/VDROOP
in bios im at 1.35v.. in windows im 1.28v... then under load im 1.22v
edit: wow at 3.2ghz 2 of my cores are 59C and 2 are 53C... bad mount?
edit : lol im stable at 3.2ghz with only 1.23v
edit: the board im using is gigabyte p35-ds3l
edit: it seems increasing voltage in bios does *nearly* nothing to the windows voltage
EDIT: okay now i went and changed enhance performance bios option from normal to extreme.. now my load cpu temps are 2x54 and 2x48.. also the vdroop is not as bad now.. it only goes down to 1.23v
edit: nevermind about last edit it was a stupid mistake..
edit: 1.375 in bios, 1.248 in windows under load
did a remount, temps are still 5 degrees apart..
one of the cores is hitting 60C with only 1.25vcore under load... at 3.2ghz 8x400
thats really high for that >< i think i may have to lap it and the heatsink, and get some mx2
currently im using the cooling setup i have in my sig from my old rig. im using arctic cooling ceramic paste, maybe it will settle and ill have temps around 58C.. but still thats too high, i want to get 3.6ghz(4x900) 1.3vcore
hmm.. im in the process of trying 3.6ghz 9x400.. its stable so far but prime has only been running for just under half hour.. im going to leave it on for atleast 3 hours
anyways.. it hits 67C.. which is wayy to high if i want this proc to last me atleast 4 years. right? (its 1.28v under load)
i think i will be running it at 3.2ghz 8x400 like 1.2v for a year or so until i get a new gpu and will need to push this cpu
running 9x375 (3.375ghz) with ram ratio at 2.4 (900)
temps never go over 56C and the voltage under load is 1.26v
testing for stability.. if this is stable i will probably keep it at this for a long while
71c is what intel states as max temp.
in the post it says 1.28v under load :P
but in bios i think its like 1.41 or somefing like that
i feel sorry for your batch :( :(
1.5v seems like a lot to get to 3600. Are you sure it's the cpu that's causing the crashes and not your mobo settings?
Well my RAM is rated for DDR2 800 so I am running the FSB and RAM 1:1. I have +.1V on VFSB, +.1V on VMCH and .1V on VPCIE. What else do you think can cause the crashing because not being able to do 9x400 with 1.45V is ridiculous. Well the vdroop on this board is insane so when I say 1.45V, I am talking about the setting in BIOS.
Wow, these new batches suck monkey balls.
Lev, 67c is good enough for 24/7, because that's the highest temp you get with 100% load on all four cores, which is almost NEVER going to happen with everyday usage anyway.
When installing a cooler on a Quad-Core, make sure you're using the line method of applying TMI rather than the traditional dot in the center method.
i couldnt find any good tim so i had to use ceramic from arctic cooling
this stuff sux, and you cant really make a line with it.
ill remount when my mx2 comes from petras..
also what do you think of the northbridge cooler on this motherboard? worth replacing with something better?
OK, I installed that oem I got from newegg, batch L738A357 VID is 1.2375
The cpu was ordered Monday 4/7 so whether they have more of that same tray is anyone's guess. Kind of wish I'd got 2 now... good crunching chip :D
I'm going to Fry's today to see if I can swap one out... if not then OEM @ newegg is my best bet.
I've been testing a P5K Premium + Q6600 L803A887 system this week (using it now)
These new batch has a new type of heat spreader (like the 45nm parts), its very flat and has a small round indent in one corner
Had to lap my TRUE as it "rolled" on this heatspreader
This chip has a vid of 1.2625v and is an average overclocker
Results achieved so far:
Overclock:
400x9 @ 1.38v (as reported by cpu-z 1.4v in bios) unstable (reboot after 5-40min prime)
400x9 @ 1.424v stable (2hours 5min of prime)
Anything from 420-445x9 @ 1.45-1.58v unstable ( less that 1min of prime)
Temps:
When attempting to hit 4GHz temps shot beyond 70C before system rebooted
At 3.6Ghz and vcore between 1.38-1.42 temps stay about 27-33C idle and 57-63C undet load (room temp between 19-21C)
cores 0 and 1 run 3 degrees hotter than cores 2 and 3, dont know why, I use a ~3mm washer under the TRUE's mounting mechanism for increases preassure
Edit: Temps reported by RealTemp v 2.24
1.265? That's not average for the new L800+ batches... all of them I've seen so far have 1.325 and are absolute lemons for OCing.
I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a L7xx.
I understood that. You're pretty lucky though.
correction on vid.. its actually 1.2750
I just got rid of the L804 I had. I'm CLEAN IM CLEAN!!!!!
I have L804A428. VID is 1.325V. Currently stable at 3.2Ghz with 1.31V. I would say I got a bad batch. The box color is dark blue like the new 45nm Core 2s.
So best bet for a L745 batch (seems best), is neweeg OEM? not retail right?
Not necessarily, Trays could be shipping L804s now...
Hi everyone, i just got my q6600 today and its one of the new dark blue boxs its an L803 but without the weird hole thing, i just checked in core temp and its got a VID of 1.2375v, i dont no much about these q6600`s as its my first quad, is this any good?, its at 3ghz at stock volts and intel fan right now, im gonna fit a scythe infinity + 2x 120mm 92cfm fans and go for a higher oc.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...l/coretemp.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...eeezl/quad.jpg
That is a pretty good VID. My L803 has a 1.300 VID and needs 1.49V to get to 3600mhz.
My L746 sucks. Can't get past 3.6Ghz. I'm about ready to get a Xeon X3350.
I don't have a mobo to test with, so I already took back my L804 due to the flood of bad results.
Whats considered safe temps for the GO stepping quads?
The one I just got from Frys was a L743B300 in the new style box pack date 03/13/08 with a 1.2375 VID. I stuck in a Linux cruncher at 1.45 setting bios and is doing 3.6Ghz....
Sorry to bombard you with questions mate but I see in your sig you modded your scythe infinity, was this easy to do and how much better are your temps? only asking cause i hate these stupid plastic intel clips, ive just fitted the infinity and i had to use a lot of force to get the clips down and it doesnt feel too sturdy. The temp is at 33c idle . Cheers
