Well I came across the same problem as many DFI P35, X38 and X48 users.
The DHL shipping from Germany to USA is too expensive for such a little product.
So how about we all unite here in US and make a group buy and divide the shipping costs?
Not many but a max of 5 users per order so it will be easier to keep track. Inputs are welcome.

The full price is $75 per MCH1149/MCH149 (Mosfet Freezer) so we will try to get a deal on that and split the shipping. We decided to get the Watercool HeatKiller SW-16 (fully compatible with X38, X48 and P35) because it costs around $46 + shipping and it's proven to be more effective then the Mips because it doesn't touch the CPL's.

MOST VOTED IS WATERCOOL HEATKILLER SW-16 Please see if you guys are still interested in getting that one instead of MIPS. I'm still in!

I will edit 1st post and create a list of the interested forumembers so far.

I'd be in, what about the shipping from what I assume would be you. Is that $6 with 5 people, with or without the shipping from the person in the US who orders?

I managed to get MIPS MCH 149 for my DFI X38 and after over a month of usage I can share my opinion about it:
- it is hard to use it with QuadCore CPU and high Vcore voltages because this waterblock also covers 2 CPLs (next to PWM) and CPLs almost burn while under load. Then PWMs become not cooled but heated by waterblock :shrug: Using my previous Q6700@3,6GHz/1,45Vcore after 15 minutes of 4xStressPrime load session (priority=10), PWM temps easily reached almost 70stC... waterheated :rolleyes:
- after changing Q67600@3,6GHz to E8500@4GHz it is muuuuch better with temps - 47stC under Orthos load

Aha, I didn't use any AS5 or A.Ceramique on PWMs - just what left of PWM heatsink, maybe thats the clue...

You can always cut off this part of waterblock that covers CPLs as they can easily work with high temperatures with no danger - but they should not hinder cooling PWM :up:

So its around $30-40? I think $67 is too much or the mips one.
I am shocked shipping is so much money. I just shipped 2 7800 waterblocks packaged together (2-3lbs) from chicago to australia for $24

I am running 3 loops and my 2 loops copper and the 3rd loop is all aluminum and at the moment it's just using 2 aluminum ramblocks, so I picked this up and will make a little aluminum or copper sink to mount this on over the mosfets.
$10, but not recommended for anyone who is using a copper radiator.

I would take it instead of MIPS MCH 149 - I don't know how it looks inside, but it has no "CPL-part", thank God :)
Unfortunately I had only one choice when I was up to buy PWM waterbloc... MIPS was the only choice :shrug:

First off I think thats the wrong attitude. I'm not doing this for any personal gain, on the contrary this only gives me work to do.

I will indeed take every precaution to make this a legal bond. We will use Paypal and I will create an ORDER # so the 5 guys on the list will send the money as a payment "for goods" with the description of "Group Purchase of Watercool HK SW16 Mosfet Block" and add this thread link on foot notes.

I'm a US Paypal Verified member (with real address and contact name) and eBay member with all 280+ positive feedback (100%).

I will report every email sent to Watercool, Invoice and tracking number here in this thread.

And just for you to know what you are saying is a CRIME that I would be doing! Taking money for something without the correspondent return is same as walking in a store and reach out for money on the register. Absurd thought as I have a wife, a job and a house to look after.

How many of you guys are really interested in this and be honest?

Maybe if enough of us together do a prepay and a front preorder, a vendor might be willing to do the transaction with us. I have some connections with a few vendors on a personal level that might be willing to help us. This is all dependant on head count and really serious participants.

Well I'm a 280+ all positive 100% feedback history on eBay and member since 2003... I think that count for something.

I opened this thread because I saw many others on the same situation as I.

And please read the thread carefully we won't get MIPS equipment again. It's too expensive and less effective then Watercool HK SW-16.

So if you wanna get help for us try to find someone in UK that can order this directly from Watercool in Germany and then send it to US because they (Watercool) won't sell them to US nor accept Paypal.

EDIT: Regarding you help offer I'm up for it but that's only if they can buy the Watercool stuff for DFI, I know they sell the complete kit for our board just like MIPS (NB, SB, CPU and Mosfet blocks), like this:

Okey wait you want me to ask him about the watercool products? I was more thinkn along the line of MIPS.

Reason why i think the vendor will help us is this:

1. First order he's not dumping too much money on stock since most of it is a preorder. Means less cost for him. We basically both win in this situation.

2. Having mips items, i can also ask john to stock up on the StrikerII Mips stuff. I know people on the forum have been whinning since its release on it.

3. We need a MIPS dealer in the US. Sorry NCIX, you guys only have 1 block from them so that doesnt count. :[

If he says he'll offer i'll introduce you to him and you guys can work out the contact information though email.

Ok thank you, I prefer to leave the dealing thing with the store owner I don't want nor have any interest in gaining anything from this.

If he decides to buy the kits and sell them individually in their store I'll buy them from his website like everyone else.

So far I have Watercool owner contact and 2 on line stores that sell those Watercool kits in Austria and France and also accept Paypal, but the funny thing is they don't have the newest additions to their stock (DFI stuff).

But I hardly doubt any US store owner will be interested in doing this for the same reason as NCIX:

Given Jor3's eBay feedback and his willingness to provide information about the specifics of handling the money/shipping in a public forum give him enough credibility for me to place enough trust in the venture. The handling of the payments and shipping is where our trust will be tested but with a vendor connection we may only need to pay the vendor directly and then coordinate a central shipping address to save on international freight.

The MOSFET area is the only part of these DFI boards that can't be watercooled with blocks available in the U.S....and this is Xtreme Systems. Let's make it happen!

I'm with Gogeta, everybody has blocks on SB, NB, CPU etc etc etc but non can easily get the Mosfet Blocks for DFI here in US.

The problem is MIPS is not the way to go anymore. Everybody is leaning towards Watercool.

The MIPS Mosfet Freezer (MSH149 or MCH1149) has a lid that touches both CPL's and that causes unnecessary heat into loop. There is no need to cool the CPL's.

So most of us agreed to go ahead with the Watercool SW-16 (Mosfet Block for DFI) and MIPS is not the vendor of this product.

As i said, if you guys have enough people to meet the minimum order for him, im sure john will get it for us.

When you say group buy i am thinkn at least 10+.

If we only have 4 or 5 people to jump on this, then i really think you should just contact a store who already has them and try to work out a discount on the bulk shipping.

Also i perfer the mips. Why because Mips is rare and its nice. Also i dont mind the extra heat because if your putting your time and effort cooling these guys, the mosfet, NB, and SB should be on its own loop anyhow. OR you can put them with the gpu's.

Lastly, i really would like a store in the US to be a MIPs vendor. Maybe if john see's enough sales, he might import more of there stuff. And i am hoping to solve the mystery of getting the illusive MIPs StrikerII southbridge cooler. This would help a lot of US customers who is desperately crying for this block.

Anyhow as i said i would love to help you guys out. But you need to meet the end on the vendor side and think of his possition. If anyone wants to try the group buy on the MIPs or other block, im still down.

However i really would prefer the MIPs.

A little over a year ago, a number of us here on XS did a bulk buy of the Iwaki RD-30 and that went fine, with one person getting all the pumps then shipping to each of us.
The pumps were far more expensive then these blocks.

Don't see why it couldn't happen again for another item.

I'm sorry Naeku but there is a little conflict of interest here. You are talking about MIPS for your Asus and this thread is about DFI and now Watercool. So really I don't think this should be discussed here. To buy MIPS in EU and get them here is easy most of the EU online stores sell them to US. But Watercool is different.

So as it stands right now is what I said in the post #18.

Mips is expensive and not good for DFI X38, X48 and P35 series.

So I will wait to see if some store in EU that already sell Watercool equipment will make an order for SW-16's I already contacted them. After that I will come back here and tell this group and see if they are still interested:

I think I'm out on the vreg waterblock. Since I'm running a little low on watercooling funds, I ended up getting an aluminum innovatek waterblock to partially cover the top of the heatsink with a thermal pad in between.
As you can see, it's held downtight by washers, eventually something a little nicer later on.

I think it should be fine, won't be as good a waterblock directly over it, but for $10 hey no biggie. I need to make some better brackets.
I also threw on the swiftech 30, dd, aqua ram blocks, and this one.
It's smothered in watercooling ;) I forgot my dd aqua-hardrive block and dd full cover gpu block... yes overkill extreme heh

But in that picture the PWM area that needs to be cooled is underneath the black stock heatsink so you will be cooling the CPL's more then the PWM.

No they don't, that's why DFI avoid 'pulling' the mosfets heatsink over that area too.

Praz know more then me about this, but the CPL's are made to "take heat pressure" from other chips/mosfets.

So they pretty much can get hot without interfering in the Overclock.

Praz can correct me if I'm wrong.

About the Mips block.
You should not wonder that your temps are high when you dont use the INCLUDED thermal compound. It dont conduct electricity.
Every mosfet needs a big drop because the block has no or few contact to avoid damage from the high sensitive mosfets.
The block has two feets to get the correct distance to the mosfets.

I did sth like this to make good (maybe to good acording to CPLs) thermal transfer to waterblock.

BUT the most important is that high temps IMHO refer just to highly clocked Quads, DualCore CPUs make less stress for PWM/CPLs - I had quite high temps using Q6700@3,6GHz/1,45Vcore and about 20oC temperature drop after installing E8500@4GHz/1,37Vcore

MIPS MCH 149 is good waterblock and I definitely try your suggestion if I only force myself to rebuild my WC :p:

Dimek, the washers has to come under the mainboard.
You increase the distance to the mosfets !!!
Also the pad´s on the CPL´s are to big.
I realy suggest that you do the correct configuration
with the included thermal compound on the CPL´s and mosfets and
the washers below the mainboard.

Hi,

Yes we have MIPS also, but it is very expensive compared to Watercool Heatkiller, and finish and cooling performance is quite similar I think.
In many ways Watercool is the top watercooling brand in the world, with very good quality and performance at a fair price, and a huge selection of specialty blocks for mosfet, chipset etc. Don't know why it isn't available in the US - quite strange really...
Only thing is, Watercool is often slow in shipping new products. It can take a long time after they announce a new block, untill it is actually available.

But I will put in an order for 5 pcs to start with, and let you know as soon as we have them in stock, or have a confirmed delivery date.
The price is 191,20 DKK which is around 40 USD, with the very weak USD rate at the moment.
I will have to check on shipping, to see what is the cheapest and best. We don't normally use DHL or similar, but regular insured airmail parcel post.

All Watercool blocks are G1/4 IIRC

EDIT: Except for the MICRO-SYSTEM blocks which are threaded for M5 or something. The MOSFET block however, is not.

aqua computers, some innovatek, and other european brands are G1/8" barbs ;(

Guys I think this is obvious: the more you add blocks (gpu, sb, nb, cpu, pwm etc) = more restriction! Thats why you should use a good pump, to deal with more blocks.

So if you don't want restrictions in your loop you would have to buy 1 pump for each block and also 1 rad for each block, that doesn't make sense money and space wise. So what you have to do is keep track of your temps before and after adding a new block to the loop to see if your rads+fans+pump is cooping with it...

If you have a good pump and rad the heat/restriction factor won't be an issue for you.

The SW-16 has universal 1/4 threads compatible with any DD or Dtek barbs in different sizes...

No payments in advance. I will only receive payments when Vcore.dk email me saying that they have it in stock and are ready to ship to us.

So when the items arrive there I will ask for 1st payments (block + split shipping for group included in that order) limited to the quantity they have in stock, if someone delays the payment or lose interest, next person in line will be offered his place.

I got here on XS forum suggestion to use backplate for mosfet waterblock... Although I didn't do it (yet) - using without backplate, hoping for "thermal pads" to compensate potential height differences.

It's always cool to have a backplate. I plan to buy a Koolance Heat Plate, drill two holes to the extremity so the screws can fit, isolate the metal that will touch the mobo backside and voilá you got yourself a backplate for the mosfet waterblock:

This block is new and not yet available on their website. It took us a long time to get to this point that Vcore could order them especially for us and then send it to USA.

Watercool.de is one the best waterblock company's in the market and their blocks are very well made (Germany).

I plan to make it from aluminium piece, which left from my mobo tray after a mod :D
And use mouse pad as isolation.

Also mosfets might be in different height, so do I need to use more 'thick' thermal compound, to compensate this difference? Will MX-2 be good for it?

And MIPS block covers 2 long details PCL0007 near mosfets, does Watercool block cover it too?

No problem. I posted a Koolance plate on my post on the top. 76mm is to much because the sink (excluding the holes has 67mm).

Don't worry guys I will do the measuring this weekend and will post here the best option we will have for backplate.


EDIT: Updated batch list as we going to receive more then expected and probably enough to fulfill the entire list.

I was just thinking - I have some 1/8" thick aluminum out in the garage. It's a 1" wide bar about 34.5" long. How long would a backplate need to be? I could cut them to length and drill & tap the holes if I had a block to go off of. :D

OK, I just got done putting a new cooler on my DFI, so while it was out I took measurements. The mounting holes appear to be 77mm apart (center to center), and entire backplate looks like it should be around 87mm long. The top end has only about 5-7mm of clearance before it hits the motherboard mounting hole right above that.

Yes you are right. Just measured mine as well.

The backplate has to be at least 80 to 85mm but I could not find any already made with that size so a good plate would be this 107mm from Koolance:

And then each would trim and punch holes if needed.

I would guess the Ek Mosfet Backplate would do also (but I don't have their exact measurement) and they are sold out everywhere.

1) Mosfet have the same height (at least is what I can see by naked eye);

2) MX-2 will work just fine;

3) Sadly MIPS mosfet block has a flaw in the project. The extra long cover to touch the CPL's chips are useless and they bring a) unnecessary and unbearable heat to the loop (if you use quadcore), b) uneven surfaces to try to manage (the CPL's are higher then the mosfets so that will be very hard to adjust).

That's another reason we decided to go with Watercool.de instead, they only cover what needs to be cooled: Mosfets.

Does the watercool block get in the way of the SMD's? I noticed that they are higher than the mosfets.
