The boards are basically the same, save for one being DDR3...we always update the bios links to ensure folks download the right file for the right board. Besides...it's always a must that folks *check* beforehand they have the right bios file.
It's just easier to have one thread with the various X48 models available.
EDIT:...i see the thread was moved from intel over to "intel info and support"...a good solution:D

well...i have the board, waiting on the memory later today or tomorrow...the processors will be a Q6600 'G0' and QX9650.
i will start with the Q6600 since many have that processor now...i would try an E8400 but there are none to be had at least from the major retail sites.

you have to love the looks of the board, and gigabyte packs/protects it sooo well!..they put it in a heavy duty clear plastic shell with a heavy duty clear plastic lid on top...in this picture, the lid is removed.
Pink and Green? Maybe they watch too much Fairly Odd Parents on Nickelodeon over at Gigabyte :D
i kind of feel like i am on the feminine side:D
ok...here is this "Crazy Cool" back plate on the backside of the mobo...it covers the cpu socket plys the NB but it does not touch the backside of the NB area...notice the gray TIM, which helps extract heat from the backside of the CPU socket...i laid it up against the TRUE heatsink so you can get a feel for the size.
this item has to be removed in order to mount a heatsink that has its own back plate...for those heatsinks that have the push-n-turn anchors like on Intels's stock heatsink, it will be able to utilize this cooling feature...NOW...how effective it is at its job is a question that i won't be able to answer right now.
PS...getting close to getting the TRUE mounted and then the board up an running!:up:

it just took a little learning curve to get familiar with the bios settings...i have to say this board is FAR BETTER than DFI's X38 DDR2 board when it comes to memory settings...memory is in auto for the timings and it did set the "SPD" settings (close to) specs for GSkill sticks.

DDR3 :( Its sooo expensive
you know; it is expensive!...BUT...just a year ago, i paid the same price for 2 x 1gb DDR2-1143 sticks (Corsair Dominators) as i paid for these GSkill 2 x 2gb DDR3-1600 sticks...prices will eventually come down further...i understand the hardship for people like yourself.
several benches at 3.8 Ghz for my Q6600.
i would be lying to you if i were to say this board is real easy to overclock..it takes some patience and reboots...the Easy Tune 5 Pro has its limitations with setting Vcore...very hard to fine tune small vcore adjustments...it wants to make 0.03 to 0.04 adjustments in the 1.5x range even though i click only 0.01v change.
this board has a stepper learning curve for the bios settings in "MB Intelligent Tweaker", which is the heart of overclocking this mobo.
This board is very tempting, but the cost of DDR3 just doesn't outweigh the benefits at all to me.

Maybe your tests will convince me to jump to this from the X38.
anyone have any knowledge on the "Clock Driving & Skew Control" bios settings under M.I.T. (overclocking section)?

To boot at high FSBs ( higher than 450MHz ) you'll need to relax your timings, and then re-set them to what you want through MemSet within Windows.
The memory dividers ( FSB/DRAM Ratios ) play a big role in overclocking in every X38/X48 motherboard, and the GA-X48T-DQ6 is no exception.
You need to choose the best divider for the desired FSB.
Also note, that the FSB Strap control is "integrated" with the DRAM/FSB Ratios.
Also make sure you're running BIOS version F4H ( I've posted a download link for it ).

i noticed "Easy Tune 5 Pro" is very close to actual vcore when you read the set or indicated vcore that is set...i read out on the DMM of about 0.005v difference (lower) than what Easy Tune 5 Pro says is set!
EDIT:...easy tune 5 pro acts squirrely when setting or changing the vcore...if i want a target vcore of around 1.55, i need to set something around 1.52-1.53...this is really weird; after clicking on, say, 1.525v setting, it shows the mouse hour glass as if the new vcore voltage is being set...a few seconds later, right after the mouse hour glass disappearing, the indication jumps up about 0.025 - 0.030v....i go to measure it on the board and the newly indicated vcore, that just jumped/increased by 0.025 to 0.030v, is now very close to being accurate, when readout out on the DMM.

Hey Ace I was wondering was there any particular reason for picking the Gigabyte over any other manufacturer? I guess Asus is the only other choice for DDR3 x48 boards at the moment but I was wondering if there was a specific motivation.
mine was partly due to price (no surprise there:D) and then availability...the giga cost $330 (DDR3) while asus' version was going to cost $400....asus is now available....i know; DDR3 memory is up there...but, a year ago or little longer i paid the same price for 2gig's of corasir dominators as i paid for my 4 gig's of GSkill DDR3.Quote:

NB is running pretty hot 55C idle per Everest with much of the heat being shifted to the SB via the heatpipes. May be getting my waterblock out soon:)

i tried the F4H but i had some problems...it could be that the memory was being set to command rate of 1...i have been setting that manually....the only reason i say "one" is the settings to the left of actual settings says that.

hey Bill, did you encounter the bios ignoring RAS to CAS delay, RAS Precharge and Precharge Delay below 9?...i found the board will boot at 9 even though i have 7, 6 or 5 set in the bios...after getting into windows, i have to use memset to adjust those three to below "9"...CAS adjustment works correctly from the bios.

i found out my problem...it was MemSet!...it was in "Auto" and it had those previous settings saved....i haven't worked with MemSet for a while since it does not work on the most recent Abit mobo's.

here are a few benches with the 'G0' Q6600, GSkill DDR3-1600 memory and a 8800GTS video card...the board works very well!
BUMMER...board died on me!...i was measuring the vcore and it just shutdown...didn't see any spark or didn't here any short noise...DARN!!:(

uhh . . about the asus . . well I jumped to the P5E3 Premium and so far I'm not convinced. As usual buyers remorse is telling me I should have left well enough alone, but I don't listen to my own advise. Anyway, there is just something not quite right about the asus board. It seems overly sensitive to bios settings and not posting just because and also I suspect drive corruption could be rearing it's ugly head. Nothing concrete, just a gut feeling at this point and some erratic behavior. I wish the IX48-MAX Tiger Force was out. I'd try that one instead at this pont. Asus has added so many controls to their most recent bioses that it's getting harder to just set stable yet permformance mided settings without major trial and error status. Like I said I'm not convinced. I even thought about maybe trying a 790i, but they are reporting some sata issues again like the old 680i ones maybe? and also some performance governors on certain fsb settings........................... Actually it's uglier than that it seems for the 790i (link below). . . . It's all giving me a headache.

i found performance to be very close to the X38...the X48 might be tad easier to overclock the NB/memory.
I'm curremtly fighting to get 3.6k stable , something which is usually a dial it in & forget occurence. Occt stable but Prime failing on smalll ffts.
i tried P95 and it would not do it at 3.8 ghz on this board...i used the same CPU on the IP35 Pro at 3.8 ghz and it ran Prime 95 fine....there is a lot more on this board to discover...i bet the CPU and NB Skew settings has something to do with that.
i am not a fan of P95...i run wPrime 1024M bench...if it hacks that, i am happy.
were on the x38 version, which sailed prime & i didn't need to use them there. Only real difference i can see is we're in earlier in the game than i was with the x38 so bios is that much less mature. Though as there are so many similarities you perhaps might be forgiven for thinking that the x48 bios would be further advanced on launch with the experience of the x38 :lol:Quote:

No worries :) I usually do a 3.6k prime stable settings post 1st thing, but as I say got a bit carried away when the E8200 arrived :) Whilst every rig is different, it does give at least a starting point.
I added what i think are the base voltages to the voltage section so that we can see what the absolute voltages are by adding the base to the overclock settings. I know from the Gigabyte GA X38 DQ6 Blog thread that a lot of pps asked that. It does make more sense.
If anyone has any better ideas or upgrades on the base voltages please let me know & we'll get them upgraded if needed.

Oh well thaat's abit better :), I'd try upping your memory voltage a notch, Your running on 2v (1.5v+0.05) I'm not sure what the maximum is for your ram.
Is this youram ?? TW3X2G1600C9DHX G The rated volts are 1.80v for 1600 so your running 0.20v over spec.
Try dropping your ram speed to say 3.20(1280) pr 3.33(1333) & running prime small ffts to check if your CPU is statble. If it fails try upping vcore , maybe try upping FSB to 0.35v and/or increasing (G)MCH OverVoltage a notch. Repeat if needed until CPU is stable.
If CPU is ok then it's memory tuning again voltage uis already over spec., so shouldn't be needed. Ther biggest lever I've found is Static tREAD Value (tRD) your at 7 which is the normal setting for 400 fsb.You might try 8 but that will probably be quite a performance hit.
See how it goes , if your still having issues you might try Corsair Product Support

holy cow, SS, nice job at taking it up to 1666 mhz on the memory speed at 4.0 ghz.
those write and copy speeds are awesome at a PL of 9!!!

it must be the cellshock memory...AND...then the CAS setting is the other major factor...also, it is nice to do it with 2 x 1gb instead of 2 x 2gb.;)
Yep I just didn't expect the performance to be that good. I'd expect better latency as the timings tightened , but the bandwidth seems to have remained quiet high , i've had more sub 10k everest results on higher dividers but with slacker timings.Quote:

i noticed your previous run at 3.8 ghz you were able to get over the 10K hump for copy speed but lowering the total mhz dropped you below 10K on the copy speed even though your memory speed is 800 mhz while the other was at 616 mhz.
Good point ace though i have gone from 3.8 ghz to 3.6k will try the 1600 at higher cpu again later , assuming it runs :lol:

quick report on the new board: noticed that the replacement board LED lights are working normally...the first board it was intermittent.
i am able to adjust the memory timings a little easier but the processor is different from the first time around...1st time was Q6600; this time it is a QX9650.
i will post more tomorrow evening since i need to do some house cleaning for a house that we are selling in a few days.
