nice system u got there
gameplay is awesome... Crysis runs great, Lost Planet is running 120 FPS everything maxed
3DM06 scaling is terrible
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...Untitled-6.jpg
with this same overclock, I get 20100 with one card.
again, gameplay is amazing and thats what these are all about, but I have to admit I hope for better benchmarking performance with future driver updates
looks like 3d06 is only using one of your 9800gx2's off that score using 2 of the cards the hdr score would be much higher, good setup you have there its just a shame with all these new video cards they don't work as they should right out of the box and that you have to wait for new drivers to rectify it
thats what I thought too after my first 06 run... thats why I went into some games. In game my FPS are up in every game (by considerable margin in some) so I know its working
I think
try 3dmark 03 if its working you shoulg get a good score as it a really gpu bound benchmark , try it and let us know, should be well over 100k if its working
ps i have a mountain mods u2 ufo which i have had 5 years still like it now still
Can you please run 06 with 1920x1200 resolution (or 1680x1050) and 8AA and 16AF. Driver settings quality.
I need to know how much GPU power there is :)
quad @ 4.5 - don't think we're looking at a cpu bottleneck, huh?
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...Untitled-7.jpg
anyway, found the new GPU-Z which acurately reports SLi in Vista :)
that's more like it!Quote:

110k in 3D03...
quad sli is working :)

3DM06 - 1920x1200, 8xAA, 16xAF

Thanks! Those are great numbers
And last but not least, here's a quick Crysis bench:
it hiccupped a couple of time dropping to 5 FPS which ruined the AVG FPS... guess theres bound to be some driver bugs to iron out
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ntitled-10.jpg
done with benching for the day... time to go play some games :D
very nice sonofander especially 03  might as well try 3d05 and 01 now you've wetted our appetite
Really nice setup you have there, and that 1900x1200 06 run is awsome!!!
Trying different drivers for quad now, my 2k6 SM2 score is way off with .53 and trying .60 now but... my 03 score is the the same as yours at the same GPU clocks.
Nice!
Here is my CFX (2x 3870X2 @ 918/1100, CPU @ 4GHz) score, just for comparison. Quite similar I see.
Attachment 74622
Thanks guys :)
working on 05 and then 01 right now
Any other requests?
I bet it'd be amazing! Those ATI cards sure do shine in 3D mark... Too bad they're not so great in real life gameplay. My buddy's got a pair of 3870x2s and he is so dissapointed in their gameplay performance :(
As was I, it was like a stepping back to an X850 from the Ultra.Quote:
so dissapointed in their gameplay performance
I play games. Became obvious there was serious problems and that the drivers were heavily optimized for 3Dmark and nothing else.
......OR maybe NVIDIA "optimisies" their drivers for games (if you take a look into Registry in the NVIDIA VGA - it has 3DMarks AND A LOT of games... ) ;) :p:
For me Crysis is running just fine with one 3870X2, but when doing CFX it doesn't work at all.
I get ~30fps with 918/1000MHz clocks. (1920x1200, quality in drivers)
With two cards ~15fps :)
Other games are working ok.
then why have a gaming motherboard, gaming videocards etc...to bench only?kinda boring staring at numbers and nothing more. benching is cool for like a day tops with new hardware to find STABILTY,then set it and play on it and have a BLAST with friends.gaming and overclocking are like bread and butter going back MANY years..
god dude u never played quake even?
i agree with fugger, gaming pcs are meant for gaming to fully enjoy your hardware when its all put together and setup right(overclocked stable).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OR maybe NVIDIA "optimisies" their drivers for games (if you take a look into Registry in the NVIDIA VGA - it has 3DMarks AND A LOT of games... )
its no secret nvidia has more money in game developers pockets during the whole stage of most popular games giving them the edge almost every single game that comes out.hence its meant to be played on nvidia.and ati has more buggy driver issues every gen relased always playing catch up.
Railmeat, competition is a lot of fun for us. It is not just looking at numbers.
Getting a score and improving upon it when others are trying to beat you is a lot of motivation to stay at it. Trust me, we enjoy the competition.
As Pedro puts it, it is his favorite game and his scores show his dedication to fine tweaking and persistence to the best frame rates possible. For some 3Dmark is a game.
competition is competition
whether you're playing games or numbers ;)
LOL 100 points extra in '06
from the review guide it seems the numbers are the same (scaling wise) until you start to increase the resolution and level of detail >> that's where quad SLI shines
but drivers are all over the place it seems. '01 drivers are making CH look terrible and it seems bench quad sli in '06 is useless. Looks like a couple of GTX cards will be more powerful in '06 because of higher OCs they will reach on both Core and RAM
anyone have any info on the REAL 9800gtx release or specs.i remeber the old 7950gx2 days, they were so so.but nothing compared to the 7900gtx when i grabbed that.kinda the same boat here.i feel like the 9800gx2 is a stall.
sorry for off topic-just seems like the whole quad sli thing is still not straight in everything.thought since the 7950gx2 quad sli trials and tribualtions this time (9800gx2)around things would have been bugfree(wishful thinking?)
yup - quad sli is a joke for 05/06 benching
heres a quick 05 run:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ntitled-11.jpg
I'm running outta benching steam... the vdroop on this board is killing my CPU overclocks and I'm not willig to put the volts through my proc that it needs to keep its oc...
tht and its a warm day here in So CAL and with these cards on air, my room is getting pretty toasty :(
I'll try to get some more high res runs and do some 01 benching tomorrow morning when its a bit cooler.
any requests? I'd be happy to oblige :)
Would you mind doing a Crysis run again with DX10 and AA turned on?:)
im glad to see sonofander is running water and benching, really helps me out alot in the cpu buying decesion with a new gaming cpu 24\7,very nice work man.i always respected fugger for doing the same in his gaming rigs also.
Ln2\dice is way to hard to make cpu buying\overclocking decesions off of for long term stabilty while overclocking\gaming.
But doesn't it make sense or what ? VGAs are mostly for gamers ... The majority of people who are spending time on their PCs, buys VGAs for games, not for becnhes ... Try comparing the amount of people who o/c them and bench them in 3Ds, and the amount of people who slightly o/c them and enjoy high fraps ... and you' ll see - MASSIVE difference ;)
Poor performance in games is really like a punch to ATi ... In order for the CrossFireX to outburst IN GAMES you need Vista + Catalyst 8.3 (Vista is a "killing" OS ... :ROTF: :D :lol2:  :hehe: ... just kidding - Vista is awful ... :( :slap: :slapass:) ... And again due to the immature drivers, the maximum performance is not yet achieved ;) I' ll not even talk about XP + Catalyst 8.2, 'cause the gaming performance is really really poor ... :(
Well nvidia's first attempt at quad SLi had loads of problems so it is no wonder they are ahead of Ati now. I'm happy to give both teams time to improve matters with the driver support, this is not childsplay.
That score for 06 with AA and AF at 1920x1200 is really impressive. No wonder it slaughters games
Regards
Andy
wow, this thread definitely convinced me to get a 9800gx2.. and eventually 2.. that is the performance i wanted out of crysis!!!!
vista sux for 03 as always :(
Matched 4Ghz for compare, 1920x1080
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5875829
Yeah guys I have to agree that I currently have 2 3870 x2's and the game play is embarrassing and I find my self trying to make excuses for $900.00 in video cards... When I went over to sonofander's house his experience was absolutely amazing and I was sitting at half the frames per second in every game at 1680X1050 and he is running 1920X1200. Boo ATI I am currently RMAing my whole get up I can't wait to get these things out of my machine!!
heres a couple more quick benches...
1st 3DM05 @ 1920x1200 w/ 8xAA, 16xAF
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e82/sonofander/05.jpg
and here's a Crysis run w/ AA enabled
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ntitled-12.jpg
during the Crysis run, it stopped dead at one point, giving "0 fps". Other than that glitch, the benchmark ran a steady 60 FPS :yepp:
there are obviously still some driver problems to iron out, but considering that these are the first set of drivers, I'm not worried. Things can only get better from here :)
well I'm off to work on my OC. Had this mobo for a day and I have spent 0 time getting my oc optimized... If you think about it, that says great things about this mobo! took me all of five minutes to get 450 fsb/ 1800 ram stable enough for a day of benchmarking. I'm looking forward to getting this thing dialed in - should look alot better when I do
Also, getting these cards on water will help my GPU clocking for sure! anybody got the ins w/ EK or Danger Den??? tell em' to HURRY UP!!! :D
Wow, very impressive results. How did you manage to get GPU-Z 0.1.7 to recognize the 9800GX2 properly in Vista? Does Quad-SLi have to be enabled or something? Also, how did you manage to get such rounded off overclocking frequencies? (750/1100/1900). In RivaTuner, I can never seem to be able to do this. I have a single 9800GX2 and I'm almost positive it could get up to those speeds as well. Thanks in advance.
Shows how strong the cards is...
Looking forward to further updates and tri sli 98gtx competition...
I willed it to happen!
Just set it and go! LOL
Man, I'm starting to become worried now that both of my 9800GX2 GPUs aren't enabled.
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/5282/scaredik8.png
Is this normal? And also, howdid you manage to get such rounded off overclocking frequencies? (750/1100/1900). In RivaTuner, I can never seem to be able to do this.
use "Vista/SLi friendly version" of GPU-Z
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=55464
i can play Crysis @ 1680x1050 @ Very High with 30/40 fps with only one 9800Gx2 :D
>>> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=181248
btw: for crysis (game not the bench) @ windows Vista 64bit its better 174.53 or new 174.70 (174.60 Buggy)
regards
Finally a real comparison beetwen quad sli and crossfireX...
At the actual level of parallelism 1280*1024 and 1024*768 are not resolution that can give us a real challange.
3dmark hall of fame is so similar to super pi. U don't need even dice for the gpu's.
Finally someone tested quadsli and crossfirex with a decent resolution.
Can u make a test with sli disabled? I wanna compare 3d06 and 3d05 at 1920*1200 single and sli. At this resolution the gain should be good.
A similar test with ati will be appreciated.
Like hipro said before crossfirex scales better on 4 gpu's. Even with greater resolutions and a chip with lesser power the driver support makes the difference.
Bye
I would still like to see some 01 numbers
nvidia and intel in 08-09 for the win, hands down...and only getting better...tri 9800gtx with intel 32nm nethalm should be mind blowing
@sonofander
could you give us a link where u got your drivers maybe?
i can't enable quad-sli no matter what
tried 174.53,174.60,174.70 already
XP32
thnx in advance
as i said i'm still using XP32
when i have one VGA installed i get the multi-GPU option in the NV control panel
with both cards+SLI bridge installed, the multi-GPU menu is not available at all
Quad-SLI is/will be only for Vista?cause i'd rather wait a bit than installing Vista
quad sli does need Vista OS to work.......
wow great Crysis results! Thanks for the test, can't wait to get my paws on my cards!
Happy Easter everyone!!!
doing some overclocking this morning and I got the FSB on my quad up to 500!!!
anyway, here's a 3DM01 run for you
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ntitled-14.jpg
I've never run 01 before, so I have no idea whether or not this is a decent score
I'll run some high res 06 tests (sli/non-sli) in a bit
One GX2 does 100k at 3dm01 ...
No doubt! Did you use bêta drivers?
@sonofander : Just to an idea as far as 3D 01 is concerned ... I score 18780 marks with a X1650 AGP and a Pentium 4 3GHz @ 3355 MHz ... :p: Hehehehehe
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/5...18780ppcm5.jpg
ouch... I just got pwned by agp! Shame on nvidia for releasing these pieces of trash LOL
Try with only one cg you will be surprised ^^

Has somebody had troubles with GTR Ic's and that board? (TeamGroup Xtrem-U3-1800). I use elpida modul
well guys, I guess there's no more quad sli benches from me... seems like I blew a core!
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ntitled-15.jpg
time to tear her down and see which card I blew
ok, I wasn't ready for this...
I just installed each card one by one and both cards are fine!!!
WTF??? lol
Ok guys, now I need some help.
Installed each card one at a time and each card was fine! Each card installed individually registered having two cores.
Put them both back in and violla, I'm only showing 3 gpus. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers with each hardware change.
I blew my board didn't I...
Guess its just the universe telling me to get back to my homework... I do have 2 chapters worth of dissertation due next week afterall! (what a horrible time to release new hardware) :(
Maybe it's a Gpu-z's bug? Wait for a new release :(
I can't wait to get one. Should be fun.
simply run 3dmark and compare to similar systems.then u will easily know then if all 4 enabled.i mean after doing that u can easily tell if your like 2,000+ from a core disabled compared to similar systems.gpu-z,drivers is sometimes always not on the money even if the hardware is totally fine..bleh.
seems like were in the age were we can make thee best hardware(cards, cpus) to run anything butter smooth like games,3dmark etc.but the software does not always play nice with all proggies.need more software engineers to talk to each other from diff companys(video conference?).
shame that every 6 months or so there should be a mandatory meeting of a few engies from top brand diff card, orb, game developers\companys and they talk about issues etc.these ppl should make like a "congress" u can be elected into aand get the inside facts from one another in these meetings.guess im dreaming cause it really seems like engies sit back after hardware is developed as the end consumers(us) have to figure out these problems basically on our own.i know engies read this site ALOT and take it to the lab.now what they do with it...
hey sonofander, you mind doing a benchmark for me? i would like to see your results in crysis with the following settings:
1920x1200
Very High Settings / DX10
No AA
No vsync
Ouch sonofander :( Read about the 3 core monster :D ... what the heck ? ... Any news on that ?

a fourth GPU core! :D
it's kinda crippled and wont run past stock with any stability, but it'll do the job till it's replacement gets here...
heres a quick Crysis bench @ 1900x1200 very high for whoever asked for it
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e8...ntitled-16.jpg
sorry its at stock, so performance isn't as great as it coulda been, but I'm just glas to have gotten this thing working at all :)
Nice to hear, what did you do?
Wow 45FPS at stock clocks... Thats great.
Who knows... LOL
Played with the bid card bios a bit and tinkered with the drivers. Not sure what intervention did it, but its up and running. Its running like crap though :(
Can't wait to get a couple more of these next week! Gonna cherry pick the 2 best clockers from the bunch, figure out how to tighten down this 790i board and hopefully get some better numbers for you guys.
Eddy is working on some blocks, so once I get these under water, we'll really see what they can do.
I gotta say though, what I'm really looking forward to is Vince getting his under ln2!!!
Hurry up Vince!
Eddy's Asus 1 blocks will work on the 790i reference board. I sent a PM to Eddy and I am waiting on him to confirm this.
Should ViperJohn reproduce his mosfet heatsinks for the 790i soon we will be "good to go!"
Is your rig on air now?
link in sig my man :)
Would love some help guys. Im running 2 9800gx2's (XFX) and im not getting close to the numbers your getting. My rig is listed below and as you can see its no slouch.
What sli performance mode should i be using in control panel?
Im using drivers 174.53, and getting an average of 42 fps in crysis benchmarking tool ( Very high, 1900x1200).
Thanks in advance

1920x1200 looks like the sweet spot for quad-sli but needs loads of CPU horsepower
i'm currently using quad-sli and 8500@4+GHz,the results are still quite disappointing
2560x1600 is out of the question, the GX2's just don't have it
I'm at work now, but I believe my 2560x1600 score with CPU at 4.0 was 15,000 and only 1 GX2. I'm still waiting on the second one.
hi all

Can someone who is using quad please tell me in detail what global and game profile settings they have changed to get the best performance. Im getting some ridiculous performance in some games, where other are getting 3 times the performance.
So in summary, what global settings need to be changed in nvidia control panel to get the best out of these cards.
Thanks guys.
