March 18th is around the corner. Any news? I'm in the market.
I believe I already saw one, don't recall where but it was weird, and I expect so will the others since the gx2 has the cores facing each other with that weird fan hole
Im not too sure how the market will react to this one tbh as there was alot of money lost on 7950GX2 blocks :(
I dont think they will be made in large qty's if they are.
Yes, I am aware that the 7950GX2 was generally a failed strategy. Having said that, the next GTX is a mediocre step up from the current GTS 512, and the only measurable improvement comes in the GX2 product. Another question is how well four-way SLI really works because it really stinked the last time around. If four-way SLI ends up weaker than Tri-SLI, then the whole 9800GX2 product will fall on its face, esepcially when they are charging an exhorbitant amount for the GX2 product.
I think whichever company doesn't do something stupid like make it out of aluminum will sell a fair amount of them :P
The way the cores face each other I think is nice, the block will most likely just be a center insert and not take up more then the 2 slots that is needed for the card.
Nvidia is sending me a set of GX2s and a 790i board . . .I know Danger Den will have a block out tho not sure of the time frame. EK Eddy will surely have some news as well. I would stick with those two vendors . . .
From what I see, the cores is facing each other between 2 boards so the waterblock would have to be in the middle. Probably 2 copper sides with a acetal center sandwiched between the sides.
Fugly....
Somehow the look of aluminum gives me chill bumps
I just can't take a block seriously unless it is made of copper.. or silver ;)
I really wouldn't even consider an aluminum waterblock. Is there going to be a copper version?
just be ready for the price that much copper will cost and be heavy, maybe copper tubes or a jacket in a aluminum block
omg stupid ass EVGA still didnt learn there lesson on ALU?
WTF is eVGA thinking? didnt they get there asses into enough trouble with the black peral + BFG 8800GTX.
Dude, someone in EVGA needs to get fired. This is just stupid. I was hoping they learned some lessons when the corrosion RMA hit on there black peral series when people mixed it with the BFG videocard.
Seriously i hope they end up losing a :banana::banana::banana: load of money on this one so they can be smarter next time.
sorry im very pissed at this move again. We can see other suppliers moving to Copper only. WTF is EVGA thinkn.
Better post pics! Also 3dmark on both platforms would be very much apreciated!
I would save my money for a custom spacerkit and SLI bridge and use some regular GPU blocks like we could with the 7950gx2
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/sidew...spacerkit2.jpg
I always thought this was ugly.
Im sorry but im not a fan of stacking stuff like that. It looks incredibly bad when installed inside your computer. :yepp:
I'll wait for a DD IONE style solution. Very free flowing, and decient performer.
I'll wait for a slimmer full size version. but i also heard the Tri GTX also spanks Quad SLI.
Beavis will find out for us. :yepp:
I think I will design something in google sketchup tonight and send it off to Jerm at Dangerden... That alluminum block has the right idea, but its fugly and well, alluminum haha.
Will post pics here to get ideas from you guys.
Here some more pics with innovatek block :) LINK
Still waiting on mine but JaKup says his quad SLI beats TRI-SLI at least in Crysis:

Crysis
1920x1200 Very High Settings
4xAA/16xAF (forced in control panel)
8800 Ultra 3-Way SLI= 20.65FPS
i think i'll pass on the gx2 and wait for 2 gtx's, the water block on the gx2 is BUTT UGLY
DarthBeavis,
Err... so I guess a six-way is not a possibility? lol
Thanks for the pictures. I already knew that the 790i is a great platform.
Its still a huge pity that four GTXes will not work. That was my hope for the SkullTrail platform all along.
now have dual X2s . . .gotta rework the cpu loop, manifold idea did not work well

I hate the look of the 9800GX2 watercooled, those big holes in the boards dont look attracting. Plus, aluminum blocks???
No release from Danger Den, or etc yet?
LOL andy keep us updated on that rig.
I still have a 780i in box. Only was opened by to inspect it. Might do stepup if they allow.
But im definitely interested in what you can do with it.
quick question if you dont mind, the GX2 is a dual slot on air, yes? would it still be dual slot with a water cooling solution? i need single slot for my future plans
cheers
The 9800GX2 cannot possibly be made single slot. There are two PCBs with the GPUs and other components facing each other.
Making the GX2 single slot is like me fitting into size 30 pants . . .

cute
Just stepped up to 2 x 9800 GX2s - will wait for the adventurous to sort out water cooling blocks and survive on air for a while ... (altho it breaks my heart to give up my pretty nickel-plated EK 8800 GTX blocks :( )
You guys are really sure that four-way GX2 will be faster than three-way GTX huh? Maybe an EVGA can be stepped up, so its not so much of a risk..
No worries guys, we will make the block as soon as I get one gard in my hands.
Nvidia works very stupid... no chance to get a card before release...
grrrrrrrr....
Is there a Full Cover block from Copper for this monster ??
Danger Den and EK will make them. Just be patient (it got released just yesterday !! ;))
I also realized it's probably the only card which make using a full cover block mandatory. I cannot imagine fitting 2 MCW60 and Enzotech ramsinks due to the way they are built unless you use a extension kit to widen the gap.
Darthbevis, where can a guy get benching station like the one in your pictures?
DD Torture Rack ?
I'm looking for a nice benching station that can be left set up and not have my kids destroy something when I'm not looking. There was one in the watercooled case gallery, that had dual 120.3's running vertically on the sides that was nice, I'll see if I can locate the post number for reference.
Here it is: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=7473
Oops, I see it clearly states what he is using. I would assume that it has been modified.
Mine is a custom job by DD but they sell these which are better benching stations:

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/7...7d00d80pe5.jpg
they can special make a top and front for you as well if you call
I know, I just stepped up my 8800 Ultra for one, can't go wrong for $26 shippped... Now I have to sell my Ultra KO and my two EK nickel blocks so I can get my second GX2. With my extra parts I have I can almost make a second system, sad thing is everything is less than six months old. I upgrade way too much...
;)
Ok, well I just snapped and ordered 2 of these cards... Need to get water in their general direction ASAP!
Eddy, where for art thou???
I am sure they can do custom for a price
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/2...0321uo5.th.jpg
I'd say no dice on the spacer kit idea unless that ribbon cable connecting the two cards is not only removable but replaceable with a longer version. There seems to be zero slack in the one that comes with the card. Actually it does look removable. So maybe there's a chance. I think the spacer method would have to be the cheapest and maybe the best solution.Quote:

But for some reason, sliding the cooling into the middle of the sandwich doesn't inspire too much confidence.
Does anyone have pics of the GX2 naked yet?
9800 GX2 nekid + dissasembly vid

Also as you can see from the pics, you cannot widen the gap between the cards to fit two standard blocks unless you can find a longer version of the ribbon cable they use
hurry Eddie hurry... these cards are HOT!!! lol
how bout an update Eddie?
No worryes everything under contol.
ETA 10 days.
Eddy
perfect, ive really been looking forward to this! :D will there be any possibility for an acrylic version eddy?
looks good eddy! thanks for the update
If I had one of thoses, I would put 2 regular waterblocks facing each other (if that could fit :D), ramsinks on the mems, vrms etc and some silent fans cooling it.
Looks great,exactly as I imagined ;)
These thing would weight a ton with the cards itself...right.
I used to have a GTX with FC block installed on vertical MB, it blends to one side.
Almost as bad as someone driving by a crack alley and spraying a fine mist in the air with crack in it lol.
Eddy, that block is beautiful... Good job!!!
one question though - can I have it in 9 days??? :D
Is there a line to get it? Who is the last one, please -I will be after him!
nice work eddie
Put me down for two!!
