That's one big service pack.
Thats not really the SP1, thats is for IT admins that need to update their systems to SP1.
I am going to wait for the official one because i fear that some of my drivers will not work with SP1 hopefully by the time SP1 is out the updated drivers will be released.
"4. Insert DVD into the machine."
"5. Insert DVD into the machine."
Nice work MS, thanks for making it absolutely clear that we are to insert the DVD into our computer. But it is the automated installer, so maybe some people thought the disc was supposed to jump into the machine?
I installed it, CRYSIS got a huge boost, much smoother now.
Well they did say they improved a lot of performance "issues" with the OS. It wouldn't surprise me to see DX10 performance boosts from a SP. Windows XP has been improving from SP1/2/3.
man, i hope sp1 is as good as people claim it to be:shocked:
edit: by the look of it, this build is .17028.. i'm gonna have to wait for official :(
edit 2: nvm. found out how to turn it .18 :D
If you’ve got Refresh 2, You’ve got RTM
http://www.geeksanatomy.com/2008/02/...youve-got-rtm/
For those that don't know, you can get SP1 refresh 2 through windows update... read here http://www.ghacks.net/2008/01/25/win...resh-2-is-out/
You don't end up with a watermark on your desktop.
You don't need to re-activate windows.
There is no time limit.
It appears to me it's RTM, see picture

Anyone who gets their windows service pack update off pirate bay is a moron.
No major issues here with Vista, gonna wait for the official final SP1.
an issue i just ran into, seems like CRYSIS and NFS PS freeze after about 10 mins of gaming, never did before SP1, can anyone else confirm this is from SP1????
I had that problem for a week or so - turned out to be the Nvidia drivers - I updated to the latest betas and the freezing went away.
Huh, seems I grabbed this same service pack by mistake. I thought something was up when I didn't see the watermark or anything on the desktop. Granted its not Crysis, but Warcraft, Eve and Supreme Commander all seem to run a bit smoother than they did on the November Sp release.
And I just noticed an oddity. I never hit F8 to disable driver signature enforcement when I just restarted a few moments ago. So either one of two things. It is now able to be disabled again and no more F8 afterwards or RivaTuner acquired signed drivers which I don't think they did. When I installed Riva it asked if I wanted to disable enforcement.
I can't think of any other x64 apps that need signed drivers at the moment though to further try it.
I thought longhorn was the codename for Windows7?
if SP1 is done... why havnt microsoft released it officially...?
No, Windows 7 is codenamed Vienna.
anyways, I've known about the Service Pack 1 "RTM" its still unconfirmed that its the Very final RTM build. Microsoft hasn't confirmed it themself either.
See?

ok so SP 1 is causing freezing in crysis and NFS PS, have tried all the newest drivers from 169.25/28/32/38 to 171.16, can someone run crysis for 30 mins to an hour without freezing, this might be an SLI issue with SP1???? someone test when you get a chance.
getyting it through update but vista hates my wireless so it SLOW got to 11% died then 12% then 1.... now again at 0% not doing so well lol
yep , i also have installed the Vista SP1 RC refresh 2 WU (windows update) and i confirm the same Build Number & Kernel as SP1 RTM (6001.1800)

DX10.1

thats not SP1 , thats a tool designed to help corporate IT professionals customize and deploy the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 family of operation systems.

How are you guys getting it though windows update?
RTM for 32bit

Pffffffffff, hopefully there is soon a NL SP1 :D
When is available in italian language ?
anyone notuced any major differences between the preview builds and the final? I have v668 from windows update. I had a wierd black screen issue exiting games, with dual monitors I think it was more of an nvidia issue. There was a evr ffdshow issue too.
So what is this SP I have installed?

Right build # but not RTM
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/306/sp1ml7.jpg
I have the same version that you do. I looked in the registry and it says RTM.
So I presume it's the real deal.

Tossing up wether i download now or just wait. Is there any real performance gains?
The thing i most look forward to is to see file copy performance fixed. Some files (2mb and even 348kb (!)) take forever to finish calculating time.

Microsoft released this statement today..:
“RC Refresh 2 code is the same as RTM. In final stages of a product Microsoft likes to get as much validation as possible before releasing. The release candidate ended up being a high enough quality to be approved to release to manufacturing.”

guess i'll just wait it out and do one clean sp1 install when it comes outQuote:

Vista X64 SP1 is officially the best OS i have ever used!!!!
Would be nice if they would put this out already, so The iso's will come out and we can then use vlite to slip.
I Think ill wait till late feb to get it on real launch..I just put refresh 1 on less then 2 weeks ago...to much hassle for little diffrence. Everything is fine with .744
already iso of sp1 just illegal to download since they are on torrent sites, and i already vlite a sp1 and i like the full install much better really didnt see a difference in speed. and i usually use vlite for vista but sp1 seems smoother on a full install of it
ahh ill have to on over to vlite site then, thanks for the info.
just read somewhere the real RTM is
6001.18000.080126-2040
not 1800 at end
Ack, I had this exact same issue. I run 3 Monitors, a release candidate of SP1 that MS released in January (Think about Jan12) and when entering games sometimes it would cause ALL 3 monitors to go blank and only the mouse pointer was displayed.
At which point i was required to Hard Reset my PC as i couldnt' do (or see anything apart from a mouse pointer.
That was running 8800GTX on 169.25 WHQL Drivers. I have since uninstalled SP1 RC, and no longer have the problem.
The only problem I had so far is it disabled my Diagnostic Policy service and I could not run a diagnose and repair for my wireless problem, Otherwise it seems more snappy.
Well, I just downloaded the update for Vista Ultimate x64 and tried a few things that bugged me quite a bit, to see if those things were gone.
First was the performance of crysis in DX10 (nVidia 8800GT @ 171.16 BETA drivers) and tried both with exact same settings. DX10 Veryhigh with same drivers and same clocks on everything. Run without SP1 gave me 18.01 as highest FPS and with the SP1 it gave me 17.92FPS, so i woudln't exactly call that an improvement.
Next thing was the extremely annoying stuttering of audio sound whenever you were using your network (aka downloading :)) and that has not dissappeared, it just became slightly less...
Just wanted to let you guys know!
Edit: just noticed the memory usage went down with about 300Mb, from 1.8GB idle, to about 1.5GB idle, which i don't really care about, since i'm using 4Gigs
More info confirming refresh 2 IS RTM.
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1165&tag=nl.e622
well I got the final installed it took longer then I expected and hung in the process but at least it finished. Hopefully after a few days I may notice a difference from the rc preview.
Looks like the SP1 for Vista 64 bit is 20mb in total or something?
Um... but I did the windows update thingie and it was only like 20 mbs in total...
SP1 is snappier and smoother. network issues i had got solved.. but the only reason i removed it is the longggggg bootup issue....
It really pissed me off having to wait for my PC to start... With SP1 installed my pc takes an additional 35 seconds to boot up.. 1!!?!?!?! WTF?
I love it. Haven't even defragged/ run system maintenence yet :yepp:

For me it was only ~140MB. That's Ultimate 64-bit.
Well I installed it, hearing all the good news about DX10 improvements and whatnot. Unfortunately the truth is far less promising:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...pvistaperf.jpg
WIC still takes a **** in Vista. Used to get literally twice that in XP.
Oh well, it'll be a long time before Vista really suits my fancy.
Strange. After i installed SP1 i have 18GB ram. :ROTF: (but actually i have only 2)
oops
lols all mine did was show my exp rating as 8 :S then done the thingy again and back down to a poopie score=]
network stack seems fixed.
yay.
Pleople who want a clean running system and full right to blame MS for some issue in Vista SP1, should format first and do a fresh install+SP1. Thats the only way to be sure all the acumulated garbage isn't reacting with the new SP1 install.
As I'm sure it does!
All I can say is that SP1 from WU runs smooth on my Vista Enterprise x64. Significantly faster file copy/move performance and feels a bit more responsive overall. No problems to report.
You can't really compare DX 9 (XP) vs DX 10 (vista). Or were you running both on dx 9? DX 10 seriously hurts performance for little gain in WIC.
SP1 has made vista feel a tad more responsive, file transfer is perfect now. the ONLY thing i don't like is the longer boot time.
I installed SP1 from a fresh install, everything appears to have gpne fine...i didn't install any drivers or anything else...one thing i noticed when i applied SP1 was that in Device Manager under USB devices, the hardware ID strings for the Intel ICH9 were listed, but no hardware ID strings for the X38 chipset....so i had to install the Intel Chipset Software Installation utility as per normal.
I didn't see any other major differences, the only thing that got downloaded through Windows Update was the latest definition for Windows Defender.
question. if I install service pack. will it overwrite all the hotfixes and just display SP1? or should I uninstall all the hotfixes, then apply SP1? I dont feel like blowing my system clean and starting over since I already did that earlier this month :|
Service Packs are always cumulative, they incorporate all previously released hotfixes and the functionality of previous service packs. So it should contain all the critical hotfixes you are thinking about uninstalling, but you don't need to do that - the old hotfixes are just part of the new EXEs and DLLs provided in the SP, and the existing equivalent fixes will be ignored. All they are are backup files for the unfixed EXE or DLL and registry entries so that you can easily uninstall them, which you'd likely never want to do with security fixes... :p:
Once you know it's all working fine, the only thing you might want to do for good housekeeping is afterwards manually remove those unnecessary backup/uninstall folders from your Windows system folder (named as $NtUninstallKBnnnnnn$ for the relevant Knowledge Base article about the fix) as well as the redundant registry entries allowing uninstallation of the fixes, which appear in the add/remove software listing. For XP, RegCleaner 4.3 (freeware version) does this, I guess it might also work on Vista if you don't want to shell out for the commercial upgrade.
I am still using build 668 of SP1 which was released back before Christmas. Besides a few oddities it runs pretty well, I can only imagine this RTM is going to be just as good. I think I will format and put in SP1 RTM in the next few weeks so I can see how everything runs from scratch, and not after months of dirtying the OS from regular use/driver updates.
I noticed that there was no "SEARCH" option in the start menu along with "Recent items"
There is also no option to turn it on in Start menu-customise.
It is not that I miss it Vista search is way more crap to be anything useful.
