Wolfdale, 965 chipset and FSB...

I have tried E8400 and E8500 on me good old Commando. Board is unmodded only changed AS5 under the sinks. Using Tuniq Tower in a ~20 deg C room. Was surprised by the results :D

After that the E8500 Q745A554. Before i started i thought id be very happy if it does 590 again but i was wrong... Wonder if i can do this again on another board, max FSB on air validated = 620FSB:

this is making me want to get that commando that I was looking at on newegg.

Looks like, that E8x00 runs better on P965 then on P35.... is that right?

Thanks Zucker2k. 6x620mhz was with 1.35v set in bios. I thought maybe it was setfsb (for 620 i boot at 500) but tried again and it boots fine with 6x600 from bios...

Intense FSB, if worried about a bug, just run some SPi as that'll quickly clear up any confusion. My P35 Neo2 will report sub-3GHz clockspeeds in Windows if I boot with half multipliers or FSB above 450MHz. I should have snapped a screenshot of my sub-10s SPi 1M run at "2700Mhz". Could be a similar problem with your board. CPU-Z always gave me the correct speed though.

yeah now that you have the same results i must say there seems to be something in design or whatever it is that they did with this 965 B2 chipset that really works well

i REALLY hope manufacturers will now sit down and figure out WTF is going on

i have C1 965 board and my results are no different
i will try and buy a C2 965 board and hopefully be able to push the limits :up:

Another observation is that these wolfdales seem to need more Vcore on P35 based boards than on x38 based boards.

Can anyone confirm this?

Last night i put the E8400 in Maximus. That board did 590mhz FSB with E6600 on dice but now im having a hard time booting over 500. Wil let you know how it goes, rather sure im missing a setting :D

loco, what are you bios settings for the 590+ FSB on commando ? i.e. Asus CGI and Static read set to ?? sub timings ?

Volts in pic with Probe. CGI & Static read disabled (almost sure wil check later at home). Subtimings default (5-5-5-15-42-10-10). Wil try if it wil do the same with a little less volt and/or tighter timings. Slooooow 32M but no tweaks and the apps open. Volts:

interresting actually, i got the same problem ala x38, 500 is the limit to get into windows, 550 i can post without problem, really seems like a chip flaw...

amazing cpu then loco, i flashed to 1605 bios still no better fsb on my E8500 .. weird is only high fsb >540FSB on first bios save/exit, subsequent save/exit of bios on high fsb results in hang with LCD display at DET DDRAM heh

I am not surprised that the Maximus can't keep pace with the Commando :)

After my experience in this thread, I think your Commando is even more of a freak motherboard thatn my P5B-D.

Wow, I thought my 600FSB under stock cooling is impressive. But what you are doing here :up:

A rather fast look at another E8500. Q746A363. Seems to do a bit better then me other one. Only single channel and no tweaks.
