Im assuming the mods will be slightly different, so will treat this card separately. Please can someone post up high-res pictures of the back of the card, and we can take things from there.
Cheers!

I think these should do the trick

Wizzard provided these for voltmodders on techpower-up. I am posting the pics and a link to the article.he also stated he was able to oc with a combination of atitool and CCC. so we just need more voltage:up:

now we only need which pin to the ground :D
So what AMD ban doing mods also ? Can anyone even tell me where can I get info about that regulator or regulators.
Ban? Huh? WHat are you talking about?
AMD is just stupid with all this limitations and all, first 860 Wall, then no tools to overclock, again, very limited Overdrive, no drivers for Xfire al all, they are like top secret or sth and so on, no mods what so ever, noone even says anything, so I ques this is their secret to or sth ?
I hear you zbo, they recruit a well known overclocker but don't appear interested in cashing in on that relationship or the enthusiast crowd.
Hey we can always run the green cards ;)
if anyone has info on vmodding these cards, id love to try it out ;)
Relax guys :) These have been out only few days now. I'll have mine tonight, so I can start to look Vmods.
Controllers are the same Volterra 1165MF like in 2900XT.
Maybe someone could measure resistance in this spot. (second pin from bottom)
Attachment 71608
*dreams* :D
Please can someone post up a picture of the whole of the back of the card? Was gonna suggest using PCI-E GND, but thats crap if 2 of the voltmod spots are half-way across the card :p:
Which volterra controller are they using? I cant make out all the numbers in the pic. VT1165MF? Apparently it offers software voltage control too :)
Cheers!
Here are the mods by Sham:

thx elmor, good old Sham, he never let's us down, thank both of you again :D
Now to find more convenient locations that wont be under insulation...
Thanks Jon! I got that e-mail too just a moment ago :)
I will watercool this card and try to achieve similar clocks as my 3870CF setup. 1080MHz on water is not so hard to do.
Thanks Shamino.
I don't know Shamino at all, but this just makes him, "the man".
On these forums he is known as Lardarse... he is a Legend in every sense of the word.
Thanks Shamino

With 1.42v , gpu's does 3D @ 1ghz stock cooling.
Pt1t, what were the "real" clocks as shown in AMD GPU Tool?
If anything above 985 real, then you have the fastest clocks so far.
Guys, for your memory please be sure to sink them on the backside. Since i did the vMEM mod, I'm getting occasional artifacting/massive screen corruption when running at my previously benchable mem clocks
can this be used as pencil vmod?
oh noes!!!!1111OneOneonewon
what happened dude, random death?
T_M
Have you seen the same limit than I do with this card? My card can do only 972-999MHz in 3D tests. No matter what voltage is used. My card is watercooled and core temperature is low (under 30 idle). It doesn't change this "limit". Maybe the bios is limiting these like in 3870.
Pt1t- Did you get any new bios from quess2098?
I seem to be limited to 985 as my max clock, same as you with whatever volts. But, i can run the system at 999 it just isnt stable for very long in 3D
What program is best,, to Oc this beast!
guys
as on first page is picture

If i run everest ultimate edition
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/364/gpuup1.jpg
GPU2 VRM is that is that thing in white box above PULSE chip to upper right? cause if i run ati tool furry cube, it skyhigh to 80+C in few seconds, im not sure where to cool that? GPU1 VRM dont raise at all, im kinda confused :)
Nevermind i found it, two biatches in blue box they are (can go over 100C if not cooled, not sure how to cool it effectively)

My cooling mods for LN2
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=176230
bleh got the 860 mhz limit in my X2 memory could do 1050.
Does anyone have the new AMD GPU Tool or are you also using the 0.7 version ? It aint working here with the 23 jan drivers.
You need the updated tool lib. file from nordic hardware. they used it in the guide for overclocking 2900 crossfire. It allows amd gpu tool to work. when you click on "set clocks" it will inform you the attempt failed, just ignore that it really does set the clocks, as you can confirm with gpu-z or by simply clicking on "get clocks".
tool lib. file from NH. http://www.nordichardware.com/skrive...16/ToolLib.zip
thanks i dont think i can get past that 860 Mhz i could not do that with ATi tool. Did you all do a bios mod ? or just lucky by getting a 860 lock free card ?
try putting it to 878, mine crashed at 864 but i could go above without a problem.
maybe will help , i dunno....
edited first heard some probs
at ocp mod,how to reduce the resistance?take out the R and replace like 3870?
Awesome thanks Peter.
Will give them a shot this weekend :)
R*r, i think you need to solder on a resistor across the existing one on that track. Correct me if im wrong please as i also need to know ;)
Guys, one of my teammates just pumped 2.4V into his PCIE/crosslinx chip by following the mods above, and now the card is flucked.
While im only a third party in this, i wanted to warn everyone.
LardArse removed it.
Can anyone offer any help as to whether or not it would be a good idea to add capacitors to this card if it will be vModded and if so, how to go about doing it? Thanks in advance!
My cap mods for vGPUs and vMem.
Awaiting the Masters comments on what ive done wrong heh :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../IMG_27921.jpg
T_M : omg, what is that mess on card? :D
Annoying remnants of sticky back insulation foam.
Unfortunately i used some horrible :banana::banana::banana: for once, and as soon as you try to peel it just shreds. I used actone soaking to remove around my mod points tonight
Other than the sticky crap on the card, those caps are soldered on VERY nicely. Do they increase stability? And what are they? Link or specs?
560uF 6.3V solid caps from dead mobos.
i've done the same pcie chip vmod and it worked, hipro has similar mod too, i dont understand, how 200ohms feedback with 5k to ground can raise pcie chip volts to 2.4v? it barely raised a bit over default for me.
Does it increase stability enough to be worth it?
Will LF 560 752 work?
Will PS735 330 16v work?
Is there any special order or places to solder them on the vGPU/vMEM resitors?
sorry peter i must have overlooked something or made some stupid mistake, its all i can see as the problem, the base resistance is just over 200ohms, perfect for 5k resistors, yet ive tried a few times and it gives me 2.4v every time...
Hey Shams, do you have any advice on other good locations to add capacitance?
SMDs right behind core would be good, but i think u'd better off looking to add mosfets and inductors curently
What capacitors should I use?
Where do I solder them?
How many should I use?
This card will only be under water and maybe the ocassionally "winter chilled" water.
Lardarse do you have some more mods for the 3870 gfx than them you posted at foxcons forums?
What kind of bios are you guy's using in your cards ? because when v-modding you certainly gonna get over 860 mhz. I'm stuck there and want to get past that speed :)
Just try to set it at 899mhz there is a bad spot at 860mhz on some cards
uhmm i can try but 870 and 880 both failed with a instant lock and i heard these cards also had the 860 mhz lock in the bios.
subscribed
Stock bios worked fine for me vmodded and 970 core.
stock bios n unmoded i can run 918/1100 :) lucky can pass the 860...
Someone pleeeease post up the OCP mods again for GPU. Desperately need to try them :)
3870X2
Regarding my cap mods, i did not see any obvious gains on either GPU or Mem, however i also dont know if im simply being limited by OCP...
link is ok!
Link is not OK, it is not even to X2 thread
It is a link to the ocp mod
Errr, the thread is titled "3870 @ 1200MHz Core w just Dry Ice" and contains 3870 mods man
You need to check what this thread is titled, 3870X2
ok but he asked for a ocp mod and this is it i dont think there is one out for the 3870x2 yet
I asked for the OCP mod pictures, which do exist, and have previously been posted by Shamino but then later removed.
T_M- I'll send those pics to you. E-mail me (xxx) and I reply to you with pictures. Do you need ram vref voltage mod?
did anybody else see this mod posted on vr forums? i just noticed it but didnt see it on xs. they say its the Vref mod.
http://sg.vr-zone.com/articles/Jugs_...X2/5563-7.html
What voltages are people putting through these please?
Core mainly.
1.6 seems ok on air with 100% fan or remove the cover and use a 120mm fan on the sinks. didn't really see any better clocks over 1.54 or so. my card seems great to 963 and sort of tops out. even 1.64 won't get me 991 stable.
so where are all the other mods, I have been hearing that Hipro has some of his mods, that help a lot.
They will not share like shamino he has other mods as well they think if they share other people might outdo them thats what i think..
Don't know of this is the right topic to ask it, but it isn 't worth it to open a new topic. But does someone has the datasheet of the VT1165MF for me? Can't find it on the internet. It's for the HD2900GT ref. design, the Vmods aren't known atm.
Thanks
okey guys, I just managed to rip one of my mods of.. the solderingpad for gpu 1 is now gone.. Is there an alternative spot for gpu 1 vmodding?
hmm...does verybody mean both cores when you write your result?? I have a 52mhz GPU speed difference on the 2 cores :( 932/1100 & 880/1100 on stock air, without mod...sucks:(
Gonna test with mods now.
It is because the last core gets the heated air from the first core and thats wy the first heatsink is made of alu and the last one is made of copper..
nope..thats not it for sure..i just did testing. And i also have waterblocks on now:) And please...if some people can confirm using a DMM too.
here goes.
When finnish booting to windows you, as you all know, will see idle voltage.
Then when opening a 3d app, the voltage will go to around 1.4v right?
Now try to connect your DMM, and messure what happens to voltage when setting BN:3 clocks AND running a 3d app (you will have to run a 3d app to see the difference in voltage) with AMD GPU tool.
INFO: Only BN:3 does this: BN: 4 is ok.
It actely falls back by 0.5v. meaning that its running at 1.4v ,as it should, on BN:4 but only running at 1.35v on BN: 3
I then set the VR to give 1.4v to BN: 3 also (wich is actely 1.45v after reboot, so be carefull) and both GPU“s now run about the same mhz with same voltage:)
Please..if somebody using AMD TOOL and have a DMM by hand. it would be nice to hear if you experience the same.
Its not a big problem. course you can just adjust voltage after reboot (when it idles) BEFORE opening a 3dapp.
But its ofcourse a problem for people without vmod on the card.
For those seeking a 3870x2 with power section out improved, the Asus EH3870x2 provide more power to Gpu about 20% more power Vs. the reference pcb.
This photo is the pcb reference AMD above and Asus below.
http://www.pctunerup.com/up/results/..._asusehpcb.jpg
To identify this model has two fans and four outputs dvi.......;)
http://www.pctunerup.com/up/results/...asusEH3870.jpg
It is the same look at the power section for the second gpu on the reference pcb!
20% claim is interesting, wheres your evidence?
EIther way, the Asus layout is much better for extreme cooling
are there any alternate points for both gpu1 and gpu2?
Who all is using this (Shams) volt mod? Does it really buy you any more of a clock (On Mem or GPU)? I understand that there is other protection involved and that this is just a small portion of the problem?
Is Shams mod still (essentially) the best/only X2 mod out at this point? Has anyone fried their card because of too much juice?? Pt1t??? Was it something you did - How much juice did you put to the cores/mem and did you have your fan @ max???
I'm going to water cool both of my X2s and I would like the Vmod them once that is done. Can anyone suggest Max volts for GPU1, GPU2 and Mem under water? I'm going to try and H20 the MEMs too. :)
Thanks!
Ive run way more vGPU than required and didnt suffer any problems, nor any OVP/OCP
Thanks for answering - I'd like to ask a couple of simple questions if you don't mind...
OVP/OCP = Overvolt Protection/Overcurrent Protection??
When you say "nor any OVP/OCP" - you mean you disabled it? If so, could you email me the info on that mod? I'm not looking to compete with anyone, I'd just like to make use of the dual water blocks I'm using and get my clock speeds up abit.
Also, what OS and what OC tools are you using to clock these up? I find that with 4 GPUs I have to keep setting the clock speeds every time I reboot. I don't trust RivaTuner 3.8 (Newest revision - I think it's 3.8) - It doesn't work properly w/ 4 GPUs in my opinion. It lists 8 devices to overclock (In XP). I haven't started with Vista yet. But anyway, what tools do you use to clock the cores and how do you save you clocks? I find the AMD/ATI Overclocking Utility works best but I can't save the clocks with that (At least I can't see how to...??)
Is there any other way to crank the fan speeds up other than using RivaTuner? Right now I just use Rivatuner (The newest revision) to crank up the fan speeds and I use the AMD/ATI OC Utility to generate the Core/Mem clocks.
Thanks so much in advance for helping out!
any info on that mod ? i have the datasheets for the samsung mem's i know all the voltages i can't find what to do tho :p
