Criminal and 5 Wolfdales adventures :)

Started this new thread for pics and oc'ing results,my new toys.

Well I grabbed five new Wolfdale cpus from Prime Hiroshima
and i will start to stress these things and Im looking only for FSB ability and some good and stable clock .

Round One(i will start from the end)

CPU #5
Wolfdale E8400 9x333MHz (746A332)
CPU Cooler->Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme

MB->P5E3 WS Pro(0502

I also grabbed myself one. One thing, my Core 0 runs like 10 degrees hotter than Core 1. Not too please with it but the arrogant people at MC didn't think there is anything wrong it running that way, so I couldn't exchange it.

Looks like I got that problem too. I am using stock cooling right now, but will test under water to see if it is for real. I still find it amazing to get 400 million transistors right and screw up on the IHS :rolleyes:

Wow whats with the huge temp difference between the two E8400s?

same volts, and only a difference of 0.05 or so on the core speed.

its brutal I tell ya...

If I get core failures on the higher temp core I will be pretty upset.

Oh my god, you're doing it out of order!!! OCD KICKING IN! What's up with the temp differences? I'll take one #5 please.

If i was guaranteed a chip like #5 I would have no second thoughts about buying one. I'm still not sure however. :(

One thing that will change temps is are the ambient temps (from 19C to 23C).

There is a problem with the 45nm chips. My QX9650 is @ RMA because 2 of the temperature sensors read over 21C higher than the other 2, which in turn gave me stability problems when I used all 4 cores.

A few other people have had this problem to, it seems to be more frequent on 45nm chips than 65nm predeceosrs.

Of the 5 chips, what was the worst max OC? Any of them fail to break 500MHz fsb?

yep ,benching under 20c is alot better than 23c but #3 cpu is just not flat across the center and i think its the problem

hmmz so the E8500 seems to need less vcore then a E8400 for same speed. Same vcore : E8500 clocks 100-120 mhz higher, I wonder if it worth it for a premium price over the E8400

whats the general thoughts re e8400 vs e8500 because of the lower vid value need on e8500 and the extra .5 multiplier is it good generally for a 100-150 mhz boost over the e8400

Micro Center?!

Do the customer service guys have any idea what you're talking about? Take advantage of it if they don't. Just say the heatspreader doesn't make firm contact with the core, causing it to overheat. Or have you tried that?

i always clean the surface of the cpu with alcohol and then I apply the thermal paste (only a blob) and I use a flat surfaced card to spread the thermal paste.

so PcCI2iminal ,from your testing did your E8500 doing better then the E8400, I will receive 1 E8500, and I hope it worth it.

i haven't pushed it hard,so i think for 4ghz they will need the same vcore ->1.27v or so and above 4ghz E8500 seems to be a bit better
