Why does the QX9775 have a 14W higher TDP than the 9770? I realize the 9775 is an LGA771 part for Skulltrail, but I thought server CPUs usually had the same, if not lower, TDPs as the desktop part?
It is nice. Except the 6700 seems to be the only significant
price cut on the agenda. But at least there's that.

Long live Kentsfield. Unless the Q9550 drops in price and hits 550FSB then I'll be stuck with Kentsfield for cascade benching. People paid through the nose for a 9x multiplier in the past, looks like it'll be the same for this generation.
It could be a lot nicer if this should happen right now...LOL.. Quads are getting cheaper... Q9450 duh!...
E8600 w00t :D
But E8600 will be interesting to benchers like dinos22, that 10x multi is needed for the really high speeds. But you're right, E8400 is the sweetspot for price/performance though.
Yeah, the E8400 is in a good position in terms of price, for oc'ers who wants 3Ghz as a decent starting point..
tough choice, e8400 or q6600.
eh? qx9775/qx9770, same specs, higher tdp and price? that must be an error.
I want q9650 for $200 in q4 08 or q1 09.
AMD will respond, perhaps sooner than later. I think we may be
seeing some incredible cost-of-entry for AMD quads very soon.
I've said it several times recently. The Intel vs. AMD fanboism is tiring,
you really can't lose either way you go. And what makes it a really
interesting time for enthusiasts is that in the face of historically high
global commodity prices, we're enjoying historically low PC commodity
pricing in virtually every area. Diversify! Straddle both markets! Hell I'm
putting together a new AMD AND a new Intel rig this year,
and lovin' it! :D

Anyone know what quarter the E8600 are due ? Q3, Q4 ?
Yes when is the E8600 and it's lovely 10 multi out? If its Q2 I might wait especially as I wish to use it with 780i chipset with its FSB "features"
Regards
Andy
no Q9650 no E8600 (the most interesting cpus due to the higher multi) @ 1st half, who knows when @ 2nd half
wow this is definitely gonna be an exiting year
more like boring.. thank you intel & amd
e8600? 3.3ghz reference? nice!!! might have to check one of those puppies out over my quad, since I rarely use even 2 of my cores.
E4700 and E8600 appeal to me :)
Cherry E4700s will be 6GHz+ capable!
3rd line down :p:
nice another pricedrop. i must say though after reading bench sessions & reviews of these cpu's for weeks (8400 etc) its almost disappointing to know i cant get one till q3 this year at the earliest. by the time i can buy one, i'll want the new ones. this prerelease tesing must be fun for those involved, but it makes the cpu's seem like already dated hardware by the time they hit retail.
my system just got nicked, i want an e8400 now dammit :p:
the e8600 will be a bombass chip. Any word on price?
I spy a yorkie with 9x multi.........
E8400 now -> Q9650 later this year
will get the E8400 or Q9450 most probably for a spare machine :) Does seem the best price/performance imo :)
How the hell did that happen.... :eek:Quote:

High-end TDP scares me at 45nm with all the nFET perf/leakage benefits especially when you compare Q9650 3.2Hz to QX9650 3.2GHz to QX9770 3.2GHz to QX9775 3.2GHz. Big variance.
^March would still be on the Q1 timeframe... And let's hope Intel will release these procs. soon, not those sad news about erratums like the ones they're telling on the press... Early Q1 to late Q1 would still be good but no such solid dates are confirmed...
Not just for the desktop, Xeons got price cuts too... I dont need these chips right now though..

Another upcoming incoming...:D
Intel is in a time where they greatly overestimate TDP.

Just like my E5405/E5410 is specced to 65W TDP, yet they use less than my 50W TDP L5320 and L5335
Another example is the dualcores that stays at 65W all the way from 1.6Ghz to 3.33Ghz.
Why you might ask? Well look at AMD and their greenline show not long ago. Thats kicking themselves in the rear end now. I must say tho I adore their approach that helped change the industry focus. Anyway, the point is now that AMD sits with preshot class CPUs and even had to invent ACP due to it. If AMD had been quiet back then and kept TDP numbers up. Nobody would really notice.
Now lets look at the future. The table could turn again. And raising TDP values to stay competetive just dont look good if you already lowered them. Also looking abit more ahead its nice to have some headroom for the onboard GPU/IMC/PCIe that are coming.
In short, its easier to give than to take.
That graph should be completed with the voltage used in each frequency. Of course they haven't used default for 4,40Ghz, so that power consumption in real life should be even lower. And that's another point for Intels 45nm process ;)
*chants* Price Cut; Price Cut; Price Cut :D
Woot, Q6600 for $224. I might just have to build a new rig after Apr.
where the heck did that E7200 come from?? What a random chip to throw in that lineup...to the unaware consumer, a 1,000 difference between that and the E8xxx's looks like a lot of performance ;)
any to the aware consumer...well, we would never buy that chip, so it doesn't really matter, now does it?
nice price cut
those cuts need to take affect asap
Yeah, just like how everyone is avoiding the E4x00 series because it's a '2000 point' difference from the E6x00 series.
Why would we never buy that chip? Since when did they appoint you spokesman for enthusiasts? :ROTF:
For one, the 800FSB is perfect for overclocking on the cheap. It means less stress on the chipset and is budget RAM friendly. It'll only be a few % slower than the 6MB chips clock for clock, and the $133 pricetag doesn't hurt either.
E4700s are allendales.
As for the e7200 being a 2.53ghz chip. The stated 800fsb mean that the multiplier is between 2530/200 = 12.65 and 2533.33/200 = 12.666. That makes no sense.
With a 1066fsb the multiplier becomes somewhere between 2533.33/266.66 = 9.5 which makes much more sense.
