[First Look] DFI LT X38-T2R First Testing ( 56K warning~~~)
-
Any idea when one with DDR3 support will become available?
-
Nice board :D
Can you maybe test max FSB on a E6850 with high limits? ;)
-
Excellent photos and awesome board, just like all LP's. It's nice to see that "Thermalright style" NB heatsink, but may become a problem when installing huge CPU coolers.
-
What size fan does the northbridge hs use? It looks like a 60mm maybe? I have this on preorder from motherboardpro, so just trying to get everything ready for it's arrival!
Shawn
-
Thanks for this. The bios options are a mirror image to that of their P35-T2R board.
-
Neat, what the different between this and the UT? I heard somewhere it supported ddr3 but I beleive that is false can somebody help me out?

The UT version comes with a SB/NB/PWM cooler connected by a heatpipe, it also comes with the transpiper. Other than that the UT/LT boards are electrically identical. Personally, I believe the LT option is a better solution here, as I find the transpiper included with my P35-T2R to be of little use (not totally useless, but for the added costs it's not worth it).
I've heard DDR3 support will be on a model named X38-T3R.
-
Looks very nice. Never had a DFI board, but this one is tempting.
-
Thank you sir for posting!
The BIOS is very similar to the DFI P35-T2R, as one would expect, but the CPU VTT voltage can be set to 1.73v with X38 vs 1.6v with the P35, that should help with higher FSB's. that is if the board doesn't go up in flames above 1.6v vtt :hehe:

Same here. Bring the DDR3 version DFI. Better yet, make it DDR3 X48

Question: In all or you guys' esteemed opinion, is this gonna be a board that is hard to find/out of stock a lot around Christmas time or January?
I want to get one, but with my recent purchase of a 3870 and a new case I should hold off till the new year, unless of course, it is worth it to get this first opportunity.

Another vote for DDR3 :D
-
I would get it judging from the performance already established by the P35 it can only be better especially with the added PCI-E 2.0 and extra bandwidth:)

Neato as I am just going to be replacing the nb and sb with the thermalright hr-05 :yepp:

nice photos Andre! Thanks for sharing!

@Andre Yang ........Hey, Andre could you do me a favor and please give me the info off of the Bios Chip ? The Bios chip from P35 is ........................... SST- 49LF008A 33-4C-NHE 0618111-B ......I would think they are the same but I want to make sure before I order some bios chip!
-
Very interesting results, I was considering to get the Asus Maximus formula, however I just found out our neighbour Germany, will get some samples upcomming friday, for just 199 euro , cheaper then then the average cost of a Maximus formula of 220 euro here........ But I still dont know if I should get it based on this pre-results or wait, as I am not familiar to DFI and more with ASUS and the DFI BIOS is pretty advanced it seems....very hard these days choosing a motherboard.
-
what paste do DFI usually use, under their SB and NB heatsink, do u need to heat it up in order to get it off, or it is really easy to remove it right out of the box. ( looking for peeps who did this with the P35 T2R, would probbly more or less the same on this board)
man I saw @ the maximus thread it seems to be a pain in the ass to remove the junk they used there. And would a Thermalright Extreme fit with the Stock NB heatsink?

No. I think Andre has the only one in existence for the moment. :)
Which is ok. I'll start doing some 2x2GB stuff tonight on the P35.
-
I just got information that the DFI X38 UT is EOL before it has ever been announed???
So there will only a DFI LT X38? No heatpipe version?
-
Look like a nice board, personally I dont like the black coolers I like the transpiper but that is not on the LT.
I hope that this board will be available in my country. and also hope that EK can do his magic and watercool this board :D
-
the DFI is mine, got my order in today, Motherboard Pro OWNS!!!!
-
looks good. i like the voltage options in bios :D

I will test under LN2 soon.
Vcore is accurate when you enabled Vcore Vdroop Control.
But this mobo has a problem with memory 4:5 . Maybe it's X38 problem because ASUS Maximus also has this problem.

yes i recall reading about the divider issue with the maximus,
good to hear the board doesnt suffer from vdroop
well hope we can see some good fsb with that board andre, looking forward to what you can bring out from the board

@ Andre Yang.......you wouldn't happen to have any Cell Shock (PC2 8000) 4-4-4-12 to test in it would you?:)

What about vDrop? vDroop is 0,00v or more or less that? Thanks

Andre, I think you are probably dead on about that. Seems to be an X38/DDR2 issue in general.
-
Damn this board looks tight! I might have to buy another board..LOL!:D

Almost the same from BIOS option.
Bios 1.45V DFI Smart Guardian 1.44~1.45V, but I don't know correct vcore under digital multimeter.
-
Nice, much appreciated! Keep that results coming :yepp:
-
What kind of 4:5 ram problem? :s
-
If it´s the same, in the Maximus and P5E you can´t boot over certain FSB using 4:5, usually over 350Mhz or less.
-
please andre do some tests i'm dyin here
-
Let's hope the Thermalright IFX-14 will fit on this board.
There seems to be very little space to the SB heatsink left.

How does it perform with 4x1GB?
What temps are the mosfets under an intense load (i.e. 3800+, Prime255 small fft)?
-
It's probably too early to ask but are there any improvements besides the obvious over P35?
-
-
I think monday we'll have more numbers and pictures. Perhaps he has more time over the week end to test it :)

Better be sure of the warranty. My BloodIron has a sticky that says warranty void if removed, that is the heatsink on the NB chipset. Might be the same on the LT ... check to be sure ...

I have the IFX-14 Inferno on my E6850 with the DFI BloodIron ... I think that it will fit on the LT X38 board, at least I am hoping it will ... I am looking at gettng either the LT or the UT ... it should do well with the E6850, IMHO ...

UT is apparently EOL so you will have to stick with the LT or wait for the x48

EOL? Not sure what you mean ...
-
That means "End Of Life", DFI cancelled it.
There will be only X38 LT.
@AKHandyman:
I already have my IFX-14 here and preordered the X38LT. I will post pictures as soon as possible. The SB Heatsink will be replaced by an TR HR-05 IFX-SLI which is already on it's way :)

Soooooo, I guess it's either wait for the X48 to go all the way with DDR3 or get the LT and make the best of it ... BTW, have you looked at the Noctua chipset cooler? The NC-U6?
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/3...301f58bfc8.jpg
I have it on my DFI Infinity975X and my NB temps are much lower than when I had the HR-05 on it. Besides, the Noctua has a much better retainer system. A good 60mm fan can fit on it as well and the NB stays well below 34C ... just a thought ...:)

Manufacturers just can't win. Most complained that the P35 was not available without heat pipes when first introduced. Now that the X38 non-heatpipe version is being released it's the same but opposite complaint. Other then the onboard cooling solution both versions of the X38 are identical.

Sad but true. I will buy the no heatpipe version, because the cooling is enough and if I want I can put my own aftermarket cooling solutions without worring about stupid heatpipes.

I hope my pqi pc2-4300 ram works with this board
-
-
very eager to get this board.
Can you run 2x2GB sticks with this or do you need 4x1GB sticks? because on motherboardpro.com it says that the dfi x38 supports "up to 1gb ddr 2 devices"
-
The up to 1Gb DDRII devices is the actual chips on the PCB. The specification your question is addressing is 4 240-pin DDRII DIMM sockets max 8GB. The board will support 2x2GB modules.
-
Well, I ordered the LT from MotherboardPro.com and it should go out today, and be in my hands by the end of the week. Of course you guys who live in the Lower48 will probably get theirs sooner, cause of shipping. It takes a while longer for Big Brown to get to Alaska, but I don't mind. MBPro is the best!! Charged me only $7.99 for freight!!
Can't wait!! :D

wow only 7.99 incredible

I just chatted with motherboardpro.com and they cannot 100% confirm that the boards have been received yet. When they are, they will be shipped from CA and not GA, to aviod anymore further delays. So far, they said though, no bad news today as of yet.

I can confirm that as well; however, I must make a correction to my above post as far as shipping is concerned. I had to add an additional $12 because Alaska is soooooo far away ... (UPS and FED-EX !!!) for those who think we belong to a third world country, you're gay! I mean, we are the 49th state of 50! Get a clue, will ya?
-
they should just hurry up and ship this out, or make up their mind as to when they want to public to receive this board
-
MOBO pro is listing the board as IN STOCK! now so i guess that means that the boards shipped (woot!) mine should be here by Christmas after all
-
god i just realized why i love DFI so much, everytime they have a new LP board out...the amazing color combinations.lol
-
Is the UT/Heatpiped X38 100% cancelled from a DFI source?
CN :)
-
i also read a email by dfi itself in some german forum.
In the mail someone from dfi says that UT has been cancelled to keep pricing of the board attractive - also in regards to the fact that X48 is around the corner. It wouldnt make sense to release UT at premium price and it might put off people or just make them wait for X48 instead. Thats what i got from that email.
-
Thanks for sharring those picktures, looks real nice.
The CPU Mosfets cooler looks as if there could be attached some heat pipe cooler on there, was there not a additional cooler to mount on there?
PRJ

hi all, i am new here...
i would like to ask something..(correct me if i am wrong)
i planning to buy a motherboard..now dont know want to choose which one from P35 and X38 based motherboard..which one should i take for that,(p35 or X38)??
Is it the PCIE 2.0 on X38 board give more advantages than P35 ? (can show the reference if got)
And 1 more is about DFI motherboard, what different between LTX38 and UTX38 ??
thank you for replying...:)
-
Main reason you should pick the X38 over the P35 will be CROSSFIRE
If you dont have plans for this, P35 is good enough
Also far as rumors go, the UT will be EOL
-
291.99$. Ouch! Maybe I'll wait for X48 then.

ouch? you make it sound like the x48 will be cheaper
it will be a higher premium on that chipset w/out any
big performance increase to justify it over x38

So... There won't be any reason for manufactures to use the X48 then? Think I'll wait for more results to come in on the X48 before plunking down 300$.
-
im pretty sure that the x48 is electrically identical to the x38, at least i heard that at one point, anyone have any insight?
-
looking forward to more test.
-
get your boards quick! I want to see the results and I love the layout! :D

X48 is just a binned X38. For no extreme OC (and I mean extreme :p:) and no DDR3, I think X48 is totally pointless.
Some results please!!
-
it really sad that the one person who has had this board for nearly a week hasnt posted and further results
Guess when we out our boards, we will have to test it out ourselves
-

you dont need to wait x48 will be 350$ lol
you think thats expensive lol i paid 225$ for a crappy p35 board
and the p35-ut is 260$
x38 can be a monster board with right bios

Maybe the X38-T2R will be 200$ by then, hehe. I just can't believe the price of mobo's these days + it seems like there's a new chipset every couple of months now. My 965 has served me well but I'd like to get some newer tech for wolfdale and maybe the option of crossfire ta boot.

if i waited for my p35c i woulda paid 50$ less but i dont like waiting
but then i woulda bought a p5k if i woulda waited 1 more week
if i waited 2 more months i woulda got the p35-ut
i almost bought the p35-ut  now i wait for his big brother:D
i remember paying 300+ for a p4c-800-e-deluxe and that was years ago loved that board funny i used it for 2 years n sold it for 300 on ebay lol
dont wait too long time passes by fast prices drop but by the time prices drop something better comes along:rofl:
buy it enjoy life too short

nice job Andre and seems really good voltages on Core, mem and NB.
i'm tuned
