Radeon HD 3850 CrossFire & 3DMark06

Hi everyone,

Me and Kinc played a little bit with Phenom 9700 system in Poland, Warsow. System was based on Gigabyte 790FX motherboard and there were two Radeon HD 3850 graphics cards installed in CrossFire mode. Corsair's DDR2 memories worked at CAS 5 setting and OS was Vista 32-bit. System was definitely not tweaked at all or optimized for decent 3DMark runs:

Phenom 9700 @ 2912 MHz (1,45 V) and Radeon HD 3850 CF @ 750/999 MHz.

Wow Phenom clocked at almost 3GHZ on air. Thats very good for AMD on there 65nm process.

Nice score on new HD gfx :) Overclocking in CF mode still with problem's ?

Four cores at 2.9GHz and 1.45V with this Akasa cooler - not heat :rolleyes:

And ... what about Poland ? When We see some oc competition with World Legends in Poland :D

Overclocking now works like a charm in CF. Hopefully ATITool and Rivatuner will add support soon because Catalyst Overdrive is not my favorite oc tool. You can also plug in Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon HD 3870 in CrossFire X and even overclock them separately. Also Overdrive for 790FX chipset seems to be quite neat tool with voltage, frequency, multiplier and memory setting adjustments.

Thanks Sampsa, it's good to know ATI finally supports CF overclocking. Man it's been awhile since I've seen an all ATI rig in the Team forum...now ATI, let's see working tri-fire.

nice.. so even 2900XT CF oc'ing is supported ?? or just for 38xx series CF ?

what board supports QUADfire?

Bit lower than legit reviews got with a 3ghz yorkfield and stock 3850 CF :( Any chance of running again some day with a 3ghz phenom?

All boards featuring 4 PCIe x16 slots and based on AMD 790FX chipset.

Considering the fact Cod4 only supports dual card option would you even notice the increase with quad vs crossfire ingame? Curious question..

Quadfire is yet to be released technology so no numbers atm

Nice video clock Sampsa,but cpu score is not very good...can u put on intel platform?

Hello Sampsa just wondering like eva2000 is wondering is the 2900xt in CF oc'ing supported also? or just the 3800 series in CF?

I ran it in Warzaw with a 2.4GHz phenom and the result in 3dmark 06 @ 25x16 4xAA/16xAF was pretty impressive @ ~14k. It was the same as defualt settings actually wich proves scaling works.

That is impressive.

How are you finding Phenom? Much leeway in clocking?

Thats impressive! I can do that much only when cards are clocked 850+/1200+ and in standard res...
I will try to do 1680x1050 with 4xAA 16xAnisto to compare it somehow ....

I've just tried a CrossFire with HD3850 + HD 3870, here goes some 06 numbers:

HD3870 Stock: 12305 Marks
HD3850 Stock: 10720 Marks

HD3850 Stock + HD3870 Stock : 16002 Marks
HD3850 Stock + HD3870 @ 825/2600 : 16176 Marks
HD3850 @ 760/2078 + HD3870 Stock : 17023 Marks
HD3850 @ 760/2078 + HD3870 @ 830/2600 : 16995 Marks :confused:

That was using stock cooling + QX6850@3.4Ghz and Catalyst 7.11.

Games are running horrible with CrossFire, at least Crysis and HL2 Lost Coast... FEAR seems to like so much the CrossFire config, but others like HL2 EP1 and STALKER doesn't seem to gain more than 10-15% over a single HD3870.

i dunno that CF can use overdrive. nice

From that Quadfire pic it doesn't even look like those card will be sufficiently cooled! They look like they're too damn close. I hate poser pics like that.
