Asus P5K-E bios 0806

Hi,
yesterday I flashed new bios for my asus - 0806. I entered same settings as I had with bios 0603 beta and bang - BSOD while booting windows. I upped vcore from 1.3125 (which worked at 3.2ghz q6600) to 1.35 - it booted but while 4 core orthos it again BSOD after a few seconds. Strange thing is it showed in cpuz vcore is 1.26. As I remember correctly with earlier bios when vcore was at 1.31 it showed in windows 1.28 or so and now with 1.35 it shows 1.26 - wtf? I upped again vcore to 1.36, bsod after minute or so. Then I turned auto on vcore (showing 1.272 in windows) and after 5 minutes of 2x orthos one of them gave me an error.
So what's going on? 0806 bios is ****ty? Or I should simply up the vcore until I get stable? And which vcore (bios or windows) I should look at?

I saw this on station-drivers last night and was gonna post. My P5K-E is about 3 days old and so far I love it. What is the deal with the BIOSes and the P5K-E Wifi? Last bios for wifi is 0601 but up to 0806 for P5K-E. I've seen people running these fine on the wifi, but whats the difference?

Sounds like that bios isnt very stable. Maybe the sub timings were changed in the latest one causing the BSODs.

Just checked the Asus web site and there is a 0806 bios for the P5k-E Wifi as well.

If I was you, I would just flash back to your prior BIOS as it seems to have been fine for you. I've learned through all the BIOS updates for the P5K-DLX that I will not flash anymore until there is an absolute need for me to do it. I tried all the latest BIOSes for my MOBO, but I've always found the "OLD" 311 bios the absolute best, and I can achive my best OC using it as well:)

I'm confused now.

Are you guys telling me there are two versions of the P5K-E?

P5K-E wifi and P5K-E nonwifi? :confused:

I didn't know that.

I have the P5K-E wifi and i love it, it came with bios 0401 and i flashed it to 0503 as 0401 didn't have the ''strap to northbridge" option which i thought was the same sort of strap as on 965 boards then.

I know better now. :D

I'm wondering what happens if one puts in a 45nm like the E8800 which has a half multiplier (9,5x), should that automatically release the half multi's (like they're hidden with 65nm cpu's) in bios or will we need a new bios that has half multi's to select already?

And if so, which bios do we (P5K-E users) need?

If my Q6600 G0 VID is 1.285 what vcore will be "safe"? Assuming it's 15% above it which is 1.47 then I could up vcore till this value in bios settings or up vcore in bios until the windows readings gives 1.47?

It is minimal if you enable voltage damper in BIOS

However there is a pencil mod for those crazy folks :) just look in the Mobo Mods section

MY P5K-E WiFi/AP came with the 0503 bios.

All is OK (2,5H prime 25.5 stable :D) using a Q6600 G0 @ 3600 ( 8*450MHz ) with 1,4vCore in bios.

I did the pencil mod and got 0.0v bios -> windows iddle droop and 0.008v windows iddle to full droop :D

With the 0602 beta bios all is OK too.

With the 0802 beta bios and now with the 0806 oficial bios I get a bios -> windows iddle vdroop of 0,092v !!! So I get 1,408v in windows with 1,5v in bios !!

Are you guys with this issue ?

But now my iddle -> full vdroop is 0 ! :D

i have exact the same problem

i set 1.4 and I get 1.29v, even when idle

*edit: 0602 pwns!
voltage damper + very much more stable vcore :D

0503 and 0602 (beta) seens to be the best bios for P5K-E Wifi.

But I dont now if those bios will suport the new Yorkfield CPU's family !!

It's still boring to know that newer BIOS have newer bugs and not less.
Eventually you may have to upgrade if you need to have support for newer CPUs.

Bios 0806 is good, only thing is the VCore...

1.10 - 1.60v Bios = 1.00v - 1.50v real
1.61xv - 1.70v Bios = 1.60 - 1.70v real

No VCore Droop with E8500

0602 was best Bios, but dont work with E8500 :(

Someone (or all of us) should email Asus to tell about the Vcore issue.

Looks like the bios is ok apart from the Vcore issue, up till 1.5V you just have to select .1V higher in bios?

Vcore in bios 0401 and 0503 (the ones i tried) were spot on so i don't think it will be hard for Asus to fix that.

I have the P5K-E WiFi and a Q6600.

Just upgraded the bios to 0806.
Now speed step wont disable. When i disable it in bios the cpu still idles at 1600mhz when in windows.

Anyone else have this problem?
Anyone know how to fix it?

I`ve tried setting everything like cpu ratio, fsb, etc. to manual, but no dice.

it is there, just scroll down the menu, it is the last one. I had a lot of trouble looking for it.
I'm using the 806 and having those issues with voltage. Right now I'm running my Q6600 at 1.5225 vcoreat the bios to have 1.42 at speedfan idle and 1.4 under load. 3.6GHz were 3 hours prime stable with this configuration, I'll try to raise a little tonight.

What is PLL you guys are talking about? I'm checking every option in the voltage section of the bios to see if something make a difference. I'm using the load line calibration but it didn't affect the ..02 vdroop.

The vdrop seems smaller with 0602, at least it is not a 1V difference between bios setting and real life.
I set vcore at 1.475 and gamimg and benchmarking is stable. Sometimes prime+rtbli takes 6 hours to crash, but when prime is set to stress RAM and CPU the system crash with 10 minutes. I know my RAM is pretty stable, teste with memtest.
Could I need more airflow over mosfets, FSB voltage, or something different? What do you guys try first? I really don't think raising vcore will get it more stable, the system was near solid with 1.42vcore.

I don't think your mem settings are all that stable if your system crashes after blend test. try up the DRAM Vcore a bit and see. Post your specs as well..

Try orthos small ftts for CPU stability, and the blend test to ensure RAM is stable.

Well, my system specs:
Q6600 watercooled with Dtek fuzion and PA120.3. Also in the loop there is a 8800GTS with an MCW60.
Vcore right now is 1.4865, top temperature with OCCT + rthdribl after almost 5 hours is 56-56-54-52 and 54 for the GPU. I raised the vcore to 1.4865 and got this time of stress, before was 1.475 and I got just 18 minutes. I'm sure 602 bios helped.
My RAM is TRanscend Axeram 800 4CAS 1.8V, micron chips, I'm running it at 1080 with 2.1V and tested it with memtest+ without errors.

I can't seem to do it. Afudos, asus update, EZ Flash, all tell me that the bios is too old and cannot be flashed. Tryin to donwgrade from 0901 to 0602.

..i saw this on another thread...if it wont let you 'downgrade' from the floppy...then rename the bios file to another name.

create bootable floppy/cd
AFUDOS+ biosfile on floppy or cd
execute afudos from dos....

i went back and forth thru bios's with asus striker.. (using dos flash) maybe newer asus boards are different. :shrug:

anyway of changing date on the older bios version to fool the ezflash thing?..er um renaming it should change the date of the file...

It doesnt matter which name u gave to the file.. it just reads the bios date, and if it's earlier than the one u have, it just does not flash, either by floppy/USB (AFUDOS), BIOS (EZ FLASH) or windows (ASUS UPDATE), it always gave that error.

UPDATE:
Well, i did it the hard way.. I've simulated a bios update failure and used the bios recovery that ASUS implemented on this board.. I may say it works very well..LOL.. You just have to have some balls, if you know what i mean. :up: ;)

If someone has the same problem, just say it and i'll guide you step by step.

The easiest and simplest way of changing the bios on this board is to burn the "unzipped" file to a cd ( I use RW to not waste a cd).

Then just go into bios and look under the heading " TOOLS ". Click on the "ASUS EZ Flash 2" then select the correct drive of your cd.

I haver upgraded, and downgraded the bios this way. Doesn`t matter if its older file or not.

flash from floppy didnt work going back
"error reading rom file"

...but ezflash did. :shrug:

I have tried to downgrade it isnt happening. Maybe it has to do with this 0901 bios. I never had a problem flashing fromt he 0802 to 0503 before I updated to this dang bios. Asus has got me pretty ticked right now. I cant flash dos since my sata dvdrw isnt allowing me to boot with my dos cd or any other cd. I guess I am stuck with inaccurate temps and vcore till they release another junk bios I can try.

Wont allow it. I get same msg Ezflash or update. I am sure it has something to do with this newest bios locking out older ones in most programs. I will just have to try and get my dos boot cd to boot for me some how.
Would be nice if someone could take the 0602 bios and change the date on it so anyone can flash back without these problems. I would do it but I am unsure how to.

Try changing you sata boot setting if not try this:

Dig up a IDE CD drive and try it that way

I have 2 sata dvd and 1 IDE dvd, mine boots frome the IDE drive everytime.

I found an old dvd ide burner in my closet but I havent flashed back yet. I gonna try this file 1st. Thx for sharing it. Sounds like it works great. I need to order a new dvd burner but I am not sure how well the newer sata burners are doing compared to ide ones. I will have to look it up.

Well I made the mistake of putting 0901 on here, what a mess - wouldnt even boot with my 24/7 OC.

So I could not remove the POS either in EZ flash or Asus update. But someone suggested an older version of Asus Update - worked perfect just goto options and check bios downgradable. The link provided didn't work so here is another link for anyone stuck with 0806 or 0901 and wants to go back to 0602.

Finally no Vdrop in bios 1002 but now it's impossible to disable EIST!! :mad: :mad: :mad:

At least, with this E6600, i hope i can disable it with my coming E8500 or 8400.

Man, Asus sure know how to pi$$ their customers off!

On a brighter note, Vdrop is the same as in my previous 0503 bios, 1.4375V in bios results in 1.408V in windows. :)

Finally no Vdrop in bios 1002 but now it's impossible to disable EIST!! :mad: :mad: :mad:

At least, with this E6600, i hope i can disable it with my coming E8500 or 8400.

Man, Asus sure know how to pi$$ their customers off!

On a brighter note, Vdrop is the same as in my previous 0503 bios, 1.4375V in bios results in 1.408V in windows. :)

Same thing happens with bios 1002 and Q6600.
cant disable eist.

Why does asus keep making bios`s that cant be downgraded without a big screw around?
