Help Conquer Cancer... I noticed the new project in my list over at the device profiles. There isn't any official page with system recommendations yet as far as I know, but they're close to firing up the new project me thinks :up:

Project Participation
Help Conquer Cancer is the ninth research project to be launched on World Community Grid and one of five projects currently active. The other four active research projects are: AfricanClimate@Home, (launched August, 2007), Discover Dengue Drugs – Together (launched August, 2007), Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 (launched July, 2006) and FightAIDS@Home, (launched November, 2005). For more detailed information and FAQs about each of these projects, please click on the Research button in the upper navigation bar or click here. We thank all of our members for all of their valuable contributions to the projects to date and hope you will continue to help us process those, as well as this latest project.
Because there are five research projects running on World Community Grid, your grid agent could receive work units from any of the projects. You may elect to focus your computer's time on only particular projects, if you have a preference. To do so, press the My Grid button in the upper navigation bar and select My Projects or click here. Please note, that members were not automatically opted in to the AfricanClimate@Home project due to the computationally intensive code. To read more specifics on the system requirements for Help Conquer Cancer and the other projects, click here.
If you are already a member of World Community Grid, running the BOINC version of our software, there's nothing that you have to do to prepare for the Help Cure Cancer project. The next time your grid agent communicates with the servers, it will send you a work unit from one of the projects at random for which your machine meets the minimum requirements and according to your project participation election preference. To know which project you are running, please double-click on World Community Grid icon in the system tray, and you will see the title of the project in the display. To contribute to the Help Conquer Cancer project, you will need to be using the BOINC software rather than the United Devices software. If you are running the United Devices version of our software, you should use this occasion to migrate to the BOINC software so that you may participate in all current and future research projects. You may migrate to BOINC by following the instructions here. Migrating is easy and takes less than 5 minutes. The install process even uninstalls the UD software for you automatically.

Analyzing the results from this experiment will also lead to better understanding the underlying principles of protein crystallography. For the first time, a comprehensive crystallography image analysis will be done, which was impossible before due to computational complexity. In turn, CrystalVision will be improved to provide faster and more accurate image classification. This will lead to more protein structures being determined. In addition, determining more 3D structures of proteins will also lead to improved in silico structure prediction.

LMK how it does. I don't really know whether I should run this on the less powerful systems here. I'm particularly interested in memory usage :)
I have it checked on all of my rigs. I will see when I get home from work if I have any cancer wu's and how much memory they use.

My two "prize" quads will also be on it when they return from Ohio......Unless Sparky wants to make a profile for it...:) (Although, lets wait a couple of days before we switch them. New projects usually have start-up pains. I want you to get the max points we can from the two...:up: )

Just got home and see that I have some cancer units queued up on all of my rigs :) Looks like in a few hours they will be running. Estimates 7 hrs on my quad, but only 6 hrs on the e6600. They are near the same clock too. 3.5 on the e6600, and 3.42 on the q6600. :shrug:

I couldn't run the first cancer project because of ram issues.
Long? Hah, IMO any of the WCG units are short - F@H units are the long buggers, 24 hours + for some of them ;)Quote:

Got to WCG page and click on my projects. Uncheck all but the Cancer one and leave "if nothing is available run other projects" so your pc's will not sit idle when there is no work.
Looks like boinc has overestimated these a little, I'm over 68% finished in just under 2 hours.
EDIT: Just finished in 2 hrs 48 min.
I had a few the took about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 hours on my Q6600 on XP64.
Hmm, might have to switch my main computer over to just crunch the cancer work units. Just lost my grandmother to cancer in the spring and the research institutions listed are the clinics that tried to treat her.

We are still allowing work to go out on Linux because 92% of the runtime is completing correctly. We are running a debug version of the app in development attempting to catch additional information about the issue so that we can address it. If we don't get the information that we need in development, then we will be putting it into beta to run on more computers.
To the general members using Linux. If you are completing work for the project correctly, then please continue to run it. If you are getting errors on Linux, then you consider temporarily disabling the project. We are aggressively looking at this problem now and hope to have it resolved soon.
