DFI-LP UT 790FX-M2R Picture

MB AM2+, 790FX, DFI-LP UT 790FX-M2R, DDR2-800, 2*PCIex16 (3way CrossFire), 2*GbLAN, SATA II, RAID5, 1394, 8CH Bernstein.

There will also be a DFI-LP UT 790FX-M2RV, which will include a VoIP card.
Both models can already be preordered at certain websites for about 200 euro, but there's still no info available on delivery dates.
Update: Board will be widely available 2 to 3 weeks after official launch.

Its probably covered- its been an issue before. Abit Wendy SLI (NF4) springs to mind.

The 2 by the PCI-E slots look more like 4-pin floppy headers, like the ones on DFI NF4 boards.

Hoping to see this board in the $150 range, and of course Phenom(or whatever its called now) to turn out good :up:

Plug by PCi-E slot are floppy power connectors to supply additional power to each slot. I hate seeing those, as it means this board won't work with Enermax Galaxy.

Because both pictures are from a completely vertical angle i can not tell the height of the SB heatsink but if it has any height at all it looks like it would completely obstruct install any high end graphics card in the second PCIe x16 slot.

If that is the case then :down:

Edit: Also when comparing this to the 790-DQ6 how is it that the NB heatsink for the DFI like a toy action figure compared to the one the DQ6.

Same for the SB, the DQ6 has a very small heatsink while M2R has a much bigger one?

Whats the deal?

Because the NB on Amd boards don't need that much cooling because the memory controller is on the CPU die? Which usually is the source of most of the heat. I'm sure DFI engineers aren't stupid enough like MSI to make their South Bridge Heatsink so tall you can't fit long cards.

no worries, the southbridge cooler isnt too high. i think that puts it above almost wank material.. but the floppy power connectors next to the cards push it back down to almost only.

Nah high end amd boards usually go for $200 and slightly above. 300 is Intel pricing ;)

Yep... for more stable pci-e power with CF running. but DFI has been ample in general with fan headers.. I love the layout of this board.. very nice.

RD790 is very OC friendly and on that board it might be overclocker wet dream! Now if only AMD will ship OCable Phenoms I will be happy! :)

Contrary to what the general consensus may be my opinion is this everything as of late since switching from AMD to Intel which equals 3 different platforms and 8 motherboards later have all been flawed or inadequate in some respect and the truth be told about my opinion is this 3 Platforms 8 motherboards all Intel in 7 months and.....(1)..D.F.I Lanparty UT Expert Opty 170 @ 2.85ghz 24/7 for over one year and still kicks the crap out of whats available Currently less Encoding Music and synthetic benchmarks:up:

Like you say, I'm sitting here on my old ULTRA-D which I gave to my girl and it's running my old 3500 winny at 2800mhz for over 2yrs now..(3106mhz MAX)...after I had water running down the mobo a year ago.....I put 1.90v into my 3500 winny (which it kinda didn't like) but it still runs fine....it never fails this mobo....ever....end of.

Now THAT's build quality.....and it cost me less than the junk INTEL boards do NOW....2yrs later :)

I can't wait to get my hands on this new DFi........it's gonna be awesome.

I too own an Intel system (having been with AMD for ages) - A DFI LP with a Q6600. I am very impressed with the stability, features and overclockability.

But this new mobo looks excellent. I see the ram slots aren't as close to the first PCI-E, as is the case with the P35 board. This is good news! With AMD's current price/performance ratio, it's looking mighty tempting. This will look great running side-by-side with my Intel rig. :yepp:

The Lan Party is a great board but once again Ram Performance is limited by Intel chipset constraints, other than that the dfi is a great board but once again its still incomplete due to Intel chipset limitations just like every other Intel motherboard as of late:rolleyes:

Well, we will find out soon what's AMD K10 and chipset constraints. It would be nice if AMD could make any better than Intel does right know, even if Intel have been making great hardware. We always hope for more..

It depends on what you want out of it. Personally the DFI P35 is a great board and I would recommend it to anyone, but its a B*tch to get Quad Core with high Ram Bandwidth stable and I mean its way hard. In my mind SuperPI and Benchmarks mean Jack All if you cant Prime Blend exact same settings for at least 8-10hrs and on the forum here I see a whole lot of stuff that all of us can do ....But can you make that UBER Fantastic Scoring Beast Stable? Thats the Million Dollar Question now aint it?

I have had my Quad core SuperPI benched at 4050mhz and got BSOD @ 4170MHZ so with Phase Change & LN2 and the Desire to Blow Sh*t Up and a endless wallet or sponsorship I can do what them guys at that event can do but I don't have it like that and neither do most of us!

I think that isnt platform specific.. I had 2/4 939 NF3 boards that refused to remain stable over 270 HTT (worst one did 220), one that did more than 330 and a 754 NF3 that did 370. Also have had a fair few intel boards that really sucked for FSB, even on a core 2 duo.

In other words, this is 790FX mobo. 790X is for "normal" crossFire, and 770 is for one x16 PEG 2.0 slot

Okay it's all cool, but was the damn whole heatpipe thingy really necessary? We're talking about RD790 and SB600 (700?), chips that suck just a few Watts, I doubt that the SB needs the uber screwmounted skyscraperlike heatpipe thing.

The digital PWM is the only thing that requires some serious cooling but I would still say no to that thing comin' out from the back of the case, kinda says "hit me by mistake and I'll crush your mobo".

Thing is FX has less to do with Crossfire but more with AMD FX CPU's so i really dont get why isnt this 790X and then the normal one being 790S or 780X.

Back on topic: Is that 6 phase digital PWM on the board?

im 99% sure thats a 6 phase and it has the one phase for the mch on the cpu.

i somewhat fear for that cooling system all the heat is going to the heat sink for the digital pwm, which gets hot as hell anyway so it will probably end transferring heat back to the chipset.

Wait a sec, when was Agena due out again? Is it during the launch in mid-November? i.e. will we see both the 7-series motherboards and Phenom at that point?

Well, most boards are currently in testing stage being finalized, haven't heard about any shipments yet, so I would suspect them to be release by around December.

It all depends though, AMD needs to have B2 chips out by December (B1s are pretty bad) which is when it will be a good time to buy these.

Frankly, I'm not even half the expert on these as Steven, Kyosen, tictac and a couple of others are...I just have more time on my hands :p:

Oskar certainly knows AMD based mother boards better I feel, the NF2 Ultra B, NF3 250GB and the NF4 series lanparty boards were the best for each chipset, giant Asus could not produce as competitive boards.

I don't think DFI did too badly with their Intel boards, the 975 board was good after a certain bios' release, the 965 infinity also seemed to do very well apart from coil noise, P35 lanparty seems to be having its praise sung at the moment.

RD600 and 680i seemed to be the real let downs for DFI on 775.

My concern over RD790 is that it won't be the best chipset for K10 if we go by past experiences. RD420 and RD580 were ok chipsets for 939 but I felt NF4 was better, at least when talking about DFI.

I think Nvidia's chipset for K10 will have the best performance, one of the nvidia guys in a conference was saying they would be concentrating on AMD before something else (that something else I now forget) as they seem to have more experience in that department than others.

I hope 790 is good though, more choice for us end users is only a good thing.

R680 Crossfire=Quadfire. 1xR680 plus 2 other cards...possibly you could have R680, 3850, 3870...Oh, if they got this driver-wise, that's one monumental task...

Yes the chipset supports Quadfire, but it's up to the manufacturers to decide the layout of their boards. And like the man said 2xR680 = Quadfire.

I agree with Brother Esau completely. I made the switch to Intel, and i'm not very happy. It isn't NEARLY as responsive as my old AMD, but it runs cool, and is wicked fast, but i can't find a processor i'm happy with. It's kind of spoiled me with overclocking, but I still miss my AMD.

I'm definitely making the move to Phenom, as soon as AMD releases a second revision of it...maybe a third.

It's more the other way around, the Saphire 790FX board is the same as this board and it has been designed by DFI.

A comment on the board and possible variants

Good looking board. The heat sinks are attached to the board using screws like the P-35 (good !!), so it should be fairly easy to remove the southbridge heatsink screws, lift it up slightly, and put in that middle motherboard screw. I usually replace the factory goop on all my heatsinks anyway.

I would like to see DFI release a 770 version (or 790x if you need cross-fire) with the black non-heatpipe design of the LT P-35 AND the traditional orange slots (NF4 Ultra) of the new "Dark" P-35. Price it in the $150-170 range of the new Dark P-35 LanParty's and they will go off the shelves as fast as "free women and free whiskey".

Maybe we should start a petition to DFI. :D
