Coolit Freezone elite photos+elite holds 3.5ghz qx6800 to 40c (even load!)

A pal of mine (stan miranda) got a freezone elite to mess test, and so he gave me some pics of it and soon he's going to do a review too, so stay tuned!

as you can see, coolit did change the layout a bit and give it a bigger pump, I can't wait to see how it performs!:D


I recieved some more pictures and a few screenshots of it running today, and it looks like the elite will be a beast!

So far I know a g0 3.5ghz qx6800 was used in a stacker 830 with sli ultras running in it (which means quite a lot of heat already there), I'll get to you guys as soon as I recieve the actual review

I've been informed that the price is $355 per unit, and the ambient temperature at the time of the test was 78f (so fairly warm). As far as I know, he's the only one that will be selling them for a while, so if anyone's interested, hit me with a pm and I give you his contact information (I don't think he'd like his info on the public forum for privacy reasons)

update: I just learned that the load was helf for 8 hours, and that it's idling now (for 36 hours, so we know a quad won't burn the unit out) at a mere 21c. Pretty nice if you ask me, I agree with others that this will be an interesting show down between the elite and the ocz cryo-z once it's finally filling the channel (word is that it's finally ready, the channels just being filled up)

That vaguely reminds me of a V8 engine for some reason...

lol yeah, hopefully the new position of the tecs along with the stronger fan should mean more subambient cooling and being able to hold a higher load. But I can't say for sure yet, I'm waiting on his testing to be done (he has a qx6800 so load shouldn't be a problem to achieve)

that's great, I'm expecting a lot out of this one, as it's actually designed to hold a big load unlike the original freezone which was made back when athlon single cores were da :banana::banana::banana::banana:. But as I said, we'll just have to wait for my pal's review to be set and we'll know how it performs.

Not very Eco-friendly if it uses 72watts + 8 for the fan + 8 for the pump? How much would a standard WC setup use?

Yah these CoolIt products are amazing. The reviews are all spot on and indeed they are great coolers. Everyone that has one says they are great. Lots of bad comments from water cooling enthusiasts but that is expected for obvious reasons.

Anyone have any performance numbers?

I just finished setting up the Freezone in my Lian-Li V1200 (specs in sig)...it works very well IMO...I got it from a friend who had two but didn't need one of them anymore so I bought it from him for $100...it works very good TBH...maybe not as good as high end water cooling set-ups but when my CPU idles temps are in the single digit numbers...my E6850 overclocked to 3.6ghz loaded sees temps in the upper 40s with 1.4 vcore.

Like I said...it's not the best, but it's very good...and EASY to set-up...the Elite will be much better and designed to cool Intel quads...I for one will be getting one when it's available for my X38 board purchase soon....also I can only guess at this point, but it will probably do very well on the new 45nm CPUs as they will probably be even cooler running than current Conroe/Kentsfield chips.

Why not just get a normal WCing setup?

because the freezone's tecs allow you to reach subambient temperatures and thus higher clockspeeds as long as you don't overstress the system (which is why I don't recommend it for 65nm quad users), I think for say a wolfdale chip this should definitely be a beast that will get you to at least 4.5ghz without a sweat, perhaps 5ghz

I'm glad CoolIT is taking on the whole "pre-packaged WC setups are crap" notion that most people have. I for one would love to have one. While I do love tubes and things going everywhere in a normal WC setup, this seems like a really nifty thing to have if you cant dedicate your time to building and maintaining your PC. Damn... looks like I'll have to clean the dust out of my aircooled rig again...

I think this is the reason why the Shuttle 1337 is going for a new model revision.

Sweet. Too bad it costs $400 for that mini-air conditioner.

Might turn out a bit less, but I think that's a good estimate, but you get three really nice advantages you get is that it's an all-in-one that comes preassembled, so no screwing up your kit before installing, it allows you to get subambient temps, and also I believe coolit's warranty covers your hardware because they assemble it, but don't quote me on that one as coolit is a very small company compared to say evga whose warranty covers just about everything

No, the pump is exactly the same, in fact, everything is exactly the same with the exception of the "heat sink" and the water block. The "heat sink" is somewhat larger and the TECs are exposed more directly the the airflow as well as added 120mm fan support. The FreeZone is designed to be a low-flow system.

The FreeZone "Classic" was designed for Dual Cores.

No, the elite does have a new pump, the guy who supplied me with the pics confirmed it himself, he's a professional custom builder (speaking of which if anyone's interested, he will be selling them himself very soon, I think he said he got a deal with coolit, no idea on pricing though) and deals with tons of freezones, eliminators, and finally he got an elite to test out and review

It absolutely will handle that load. It is rated for 800W of heat and has been cooling two QX6700s at 1.67v each with load temps of 45C.

And I just got off the phone with CoolIT's marketing director who says he is wrong.

How difficult is this to setup inside a full-sized Lian-Li (or any full-sized case)? Does the block mount just like a waterblock would?

Its as easy as installing a fan and yes, just like a standard water block.

I just went to coolIT's *elite* page on this unit. It states a 250w dissipation.

maybe, but hey I was given evidence to show it was working with a 3.5ghz 65nm quad. Worst come worst if the guy tells me in the end it can't hold a load that much higher than 3.5ghz, 45nm's going to come out in just a matter of weeks and that should help out a lot

For $400 I'd rather just save up a little more and get a budget single-stage or stick with watercooling. Interesting concept but weak performance for the price.

as for the ocing, he says he doesn't want to push the chip higher, but not because of the freezone, but rather because he wants to keep it I believe at just 3.5ghz because he intends to sell the cpu later on (branded as used of course, but still, would you want to buy a cpu that's been pushed to 4.5+ghz on high voltage?)

Depends on the cooling, if it was always kept under 70C then yes, I would purchase it because it would be a proven OCer. He shouldn't need too much voltage to get to 4GHz on that processor though... I smell a n00b overclocker...:cool:

for that price, though, you are headed into the cheap SS phase range. A small nf9fx, captube, chilly evap and air condenser will cost about that much and yield better temps for sure. i guess its a cmaller package though, and way easier setup.

Ok so i'm a noob now huh, lol Ill have you know that i am 53yrs old and have been building computers since 95. I have nothimng to prove and OCed to what CoolIt asked me to. This is being tested they way they want it tested.And by the way,how do you buy something that has not been released yet? I am the only persom outside of Coolit to get one of these. And will also have the frist review. I was also one of the frist to OC the e6850 ES to 4GHz on air before they were released. right now the elite has been running for 36hrs and has not gone over 30c and its still OCed at 3.5. If they ask me to push it higher i will. I have a modified freezone on a e6850 thats in my X38 Maximus Formula ES build and i am getting sub-zero temps at idle and 9c on both cores underload. The other freezone is on my e6750 thats hitting 3.86GHz Gee thats alot of highend machines for a noob lmao

I call shenanigans on this post for the following reasons:

1) There are plenty of other people that have gotten FreeZone Elites.
2) I do not care what you did to the FreeZone, you are not getting sub-zero temps, especially when there is any heat being applied to it at all.
3) Any n00b can go buy a Striker Extreme and feel cool because he has the most expensive motherboard out there.

much harder to build though. Unless you have all the tools you need on hand, you'll actually run yourself far higher than just $350, I thought I could get away with building a cheapo phase, much harder than it sounds. I have all the parts right now (kayl rev 3 block and the rest I scavenged), but it's getting a hold of the necessary tools like a vacuum pump that's the hard part, especially since it's hard to justify spending $100 on something you'll only need once

I can see how it works.. probably 3 pelts on each side with WB's on the cold side and the hot side having that interesting heatsink/fan mount thing... The thing im wondering, is the quoted 72 watts peak power draw, how would that cool a quad? Unless its per peltier, which would be more like 432 watts :eek:

That $355 dollar price tag is getting awfully close to the price of an OCZ Cryo; when the Cryo becomes available. Just something to ponder. :D

To bump my question from before what sort of wattage is this thing using when at max load? and normal operation. I would consider getting one if it isnt too much, but from what I see its not beating Ultra-120Extreme by too much at all.

That is because people are using the TCM which will not let it go below ambients. Without the TCM it will run at full power and annihilate any air cooler.

what's the PSU requirement for this one? looks like it's gonna need a lot of juice

I'm willing to bet a simple 600w should be plenty for this as long as you aren't trying to run some serious graphics too

did they change from a 92mm fan to 120mm? it's about damn time

yes they did, that's one of the reasons why they could push the tecs further (on top of the new arrangement, that helped quite a bit too supposedly)

So your saying without the TEC it would beat air coolers?

he's saying the tcm (which controls the unit, allows you to control how strong the tecs will get, the pump, fan, the whole works, kinda like the gfroster or freezepack phase change controllers), but I don't think he's ever actually messed with one to know what he's talking about, half the thread he's just been trolling it

Actually, your overclocks lead me to believe that you really don't have any skill what so ever. 3500MHz on an E6850 and 3400MHz on a QX6850 G0? Regardless of what you plan to do with your chips you can push them much higher than that on near stock volts. This is Xtreme Systems and your signature takes up enough space that it should at least be worth while to read. Show me you know what you are talking about and prove me wrong. Frequency means everything with heat output actually, just voltage effects the P more.

FWIW, the CoolIT Freezone was known to get sub-ambients with the B3 stock QX6700. I didn't see it pushed to above 3.5GHz though, but the one I saw was running a watercooling 2 separate loops (NB/SB/MosFETs/VGA-CPU) triple 120 rad setup with chilled water (ambient was 18℃ in FL) and still could not go above 3.35GHz on the EVGA 680i (24/7 stable below 55C full 12hr load) and the CoolIT Freezone managed 3.46GHz fully stable with very low temps (too long ago to remember what they were but definitely ≤50C). At that time, it was the best air/water cooling for the quads and they weren't even supported past 200W-ish. They would definitely be better now, especially because using the control center the fan could be adjusted to very quiet before but temperatures would shootup near mid-end air cooling when you did that back then (that was the low power settings IIRC) and now the fan has been replaced with a 120CFM fan instead of the 65CFM.
Neat how they kept the overall weight consistent too.

Stan/Andreas: Would've been good to be able to compare it with the difference over the Freezone, but great review nevertheless. :)

Dude, he was told to only do 3.5ghz since his is still just an engineering sample in the first place.

Secondly, he did 3.5ghz on a qx6800, I don't know where you're getting the e6850 and qx6850 from.

Not to mention, who are you to call him a n00b? We haven't seen you produce anything worthwhile but flame people. He was given an engineering sample before anyone else because coolit has worked with him on multiple occasions and trusts him with their products. They don't just give it to anyone. If you manage to get an elite yourself, then go ahead, show us what you're made of. But until then, lay off

Lastly, he has a striker because you can't use sli on intel chipsets, what would be the point of buying a great p35 board when he already had the two ultras?

Freezone only supported 175W dissipation and that was presented at CEBIT 07, so this should do far better.

well, here's the thing, the main enhancements are just layout changes and a new pump in order to allow the unit to make more use of the tecs as a whole. So while performance does increase, I wouldn't say it's radical

yes, definitely. Kentsfield, I wouldn't try pushing the voltage, but conroe no doubt about it

my problem is "WHY" coolit says to not go beyond 3.5 mhz...i would think from a technical stand point you would want to confirm the limits of this pre-production unit....wouldn't anyone want to know the limit of the unit...so...if i am right, they don't want find out...OR...let it slip out that the elite unit has inadequacies...this might be perceived but never the less has to be considered as a negative.

i was about ready to buy one...but...i am not sure any more unless i see definitive data that it says it can handle more than 3.5 Ghz....my gosh, i can put my TRUE 120 (dual fan) on that cpu and get the same results...maybe higher temps but it can do the JOB!

Don't know, but his striker died anyways, so that's why we haven't pushed any further after that on our own

he has an asus maximus now, but I guess the tests wouldn't be consistent. I dunno, ask him yourself

i find your answer disturbing since you started this thread...i would think that you could provide the information or urge him to come forth about his intentions to test the elite on the maximus...my gosh, if he can not attain 3.5Ghz on the maximus board, there is no hope for him at all in doing any justice to the elite cooler.

I haven't spoken with him in a while, we've both been very busy, I'll send him an email, and if you like, he's doctor_death if you want to pm him about it.

I'm pretty sure the elite can do more than 3.5ghz, especially when he's modded regular freezones to go past that (I think he's done 4ghz on quad before on one of his modded freezones, using the stock tec system [ie not too serious mods])
