Oh wow, no rediculous heatpipes. :D
EDIT: what is the 24pin doing there?!?
for goodness sake how many more variations from asus
btw, specs?
p35? x38?
only a 4 pin connector boo!
ATX Power is in the most ridiculous place ever... why do they keep doing that?
EDIT: what I guessed:
P5K = p35, ICH9R
2xPCI-E 16x } they work as 16x 4x when in Crossfire mode
2xPCI-E 1x }
12xUSB2.0
2xFireWire
6xSATA-2
Raid 0,1,5,10
Marvell 88SE6102 - 1x UDMA 133/100/66
Realtek ALC883 - 7.1 HD Audio
I could get over the 24-pin connection being in the center of the board but the memory slots being off-center would drive me nuts. Sure it isn't an X-38 hybrid with DDR2/DDR3? I like the lack of heatpipes, would be a nice board I imagine, hope it's cheap.
Nope, it's P35 and DDR2 only
seems like a nice board :)
most likely it has high oc options!
Only thing i like about this board is the lack of heatpipes...
Can anyone explain to me why nobody groups the back i/o doors? like... all 6 usb, then all the audio... that's all just a big mess :(
no fake copper heatpipe lollocoaster madness... woooot
but just why did they place the 24 pin in such an akward position?
maybe it's to make up for the p5k-e
caps guaranteed not to explode @ high voltage
I like the heatpipeless design. But wow what a horrible layout. look at the cmos battery location, not to mention the dumb location of 24 pin. the S/Pdif is in a nice spot though.
It's smaller the the p5k premium/deluxe.
LOL, another good-but-mediocre ASUS mobo. The 24 pin connector placement is stupid.
Well at least the mobo doesn't have a lollercoaster heatpipe system :S
That atx connector position is a joke.
How dumb can you be Asus?
The only positive thing about this board is the lack of those hyped-up heatpipes.
What's next P5K+, P5Kspecial, P5Ksuper, P5K1-2-many?
Just cut the price of the P5K premium and we have one board that makes us all happy.
LOL, is this some sick joke by Asus?
lol@24pin
best cable management. ever. :D
ASUS is kinda funny. they often use the same PCB for many different Boards and only put a sticker over the other name :D I really don't know why they think we need so much variety.
well, and the location of the 24 Pin really sucks balls. but this way the pcb should be cheaper. but I don't affiliate cheap with asus...
hmmm ok lame spot for atx connector, cool that its 8 phase (hopefully no blowing caps) but one only 4 pin power for the cpu? i wonder what affect can that have instead of it being 8pin......... i wonder if anyone ever tested 4 vs 8 pin and if there is a big difference or none.
An open letter to Asus:
Dear Asus,
Congratulations on your new board but if this board was the best thing since sliced bread I wouldn't buy it just because of the location of the 24 pin connector.
It could come packaged with Farrah Fawcett in her prime and I would still pass..Yes, that is how strongly I think you missed the mark with this one.
Sincerely,
xxxx xxxx
PS: Ok, I would take it if it had Farrah in her prime included but I'd return it after a long weekend!:D
Another Asus P5K?
:stick: how many variations of the p35 chip can you do?!
I smell an epox style layout too (atx)
Looks like a Biostar (they are notorious for putting 24 Pin in that spot) board with Asus stickers slapped on :D
I still dont understand whats the difference between Assus P5K deluxe and premium.
Thanks
Wht the  . a stupid layout
Only 1x 4pin cpu power . The IDE connector is also sticking out of the board.
Why the hell is the 24pin back by the IO?
EDIT: Seems I am not the only one who thought that was awkward :) Thats a horrid looking board, IDE is sitting off the board, and its got wayy to many USB connectors.
So....does anyone wanna make bets on whether this one is gonna have a sata problem also. I got 5 on it.
theres nothing 'Pro' about this motherboard :shakes:
I don't think the IDE is off the board, from the way it looks to me, the connector is lying sideways. Which is not too uncommon, though I've only seen it on boards that are set for raid.
I personally like all the usb connections.
The power connection though, ack...
The power must be a joke...is this designed to use video output?
The placement of the 24-pin connector is not as stupid as it may seem. It's right near the power section where it should be. Some of you may remember the NF7-S. The ATX connector was in the same location. That was one of the greatest boards ever. Granted, not a good spot as far as cabling is concerned. But it makes sense from an engineering standpoint.
i f**** hate the IDE connector location at the bottom of the board and now the 24 pin atx connector is located there? are you f**** kidding?
24 pin connector is just dumb
duh...
1. Maybe they forgot to put on a 24-pin and decided to put it where-ever there was an emtpty spot?
2. What's that red thing sticking off of the side?
3. Is this gonna' me another one of those boards where they charge us for the sticker that hides its being a P5K Deluxe with some feature taken out?
4. I think Asus is trying to challenge Mickey D's for their world record title of, "it's all exactly the same with a different name and it's a load of poo." (well actually, i like Asus mobo's but whatever.)
5. Isn't 12 USB ports a little over kill?
Final thoughts: I don't know...I think I'll wait for the "P5K Super Sayin addition." (anyone a DBZ fan? Nope? Alright, I'll get off the stage, just hold the rotten veggies.
It's a pretty ugly board and it seems like they are going with Gigabyte style heat sinks ha
i like it
looks good :)
and that power connector is in the right stop :D
shame about 4-pin connector :(
dinos is that you in your avatar?
mad overclocker!
saaya :D
I'm sorry. Asus looks like it's going backwards.
First I had problem with hissing capacitors/VRMs. Returned that board and got my replacement today. Still have yet to test it. Now I come onto the forums and see a mistake of a motherboard that's supposed to be called "Pro"?
It seems like Asus is making every mistake that was supposed to be folklore by now. Boards that had power connectors like that were made back in 2000 or so, and the hissing VRMs are almost unheard of today.
My DFI 975X/G has the power connectors located in that spot too - I hate it. 24pin, 8pin and a floppy 4pin all in that area. Cable management is awful because of that.
Typically asus. Releases numerous similar m/b's... :p:
speaking of the p5k line - does anyone know what the difference between the P5K and P5KR is?
sounds like a bunch of pissing about the form of the thing.
they could take out the IO panel and run funky cables to a seperate IO card, make it backwards and incompatible with any case known to man, and if that bad mother overclocked the HELL out of a processor, Id buy it.
Form over function guys, form over function. Someone review the damned thing.
Asus P5KR is also coming.
Thanks
