Team Australia (Team.AU) launch at Atomic Live 2007

20th October 2007, Atomic Live at Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney; Today some of the best talent of Australian overclocking come together to officially launch Team Australia (Team.AU).

An overclocking team prepared to launch onto the world stage and take the Australian scene to the next level, all the while maintaining interaction with their roots and the Australian overclocking scene. This is a team of dedicated individuals coming together to push the barriers of today’s enthusiast computing technology.

Who is Team.AU?

Members were selected from the finest of the Australian overclocking community who have proven to take it to the next level. These individuals push the boundary and have been brought together to redefine the local and international scenes. So who are the people pushing the limits in Team Australia?

Choosing selectively where and when to have the official launch, it was obvious that the sexiest and most enthusiast based magazine, AtomicMPC, were the guys to host the team’s launch.

Gifted with the support of Australia’s premier enthusiast magazine, the team hosted a booth at Atomic’s annual exhibition, Atomic Live.

The event was very full on and, as with any benching session, there was the ups and downs of hardware miraculously doing amazing results whilst other pieces of hardware only brought their B-game and choked for the big show.

One of the standout performers was Dinos22's cold lovin' Intel Core 2 Duo E6700.

We had managed a 9.016s and kept pushing for sub 8s but unfortunately ran out of speed juice (LN2) :(

We had a hectic schedule and lots going on, but we were sure to pull aside the ladies from the NVIDIA booth adjacent to us for a hot photo op!

Also at Atomic Live was one of Australia's most popular smart dudes, Dr Karl. It was great to catch up with someone such as himself and we're looking forward to get in contact with his physics and engineering buddies at the University of Sydney :up:

hey Vince yeah man thanks for the compliments. We ran into some problems (as you do when you do these shows) and realised we were out of LN2 as it was delivered the day before but dewar should have held it better :confused: >>> so i only had like 3 litres to do a quick 32M and quick few 1M runs to get something on the board

i started one 32M and it crashed but the temps dropped to -112C or so i thought that was the cause and got Josh to balance the temps between -123 to -125C for the second run at 5.5GHz and used no tweaks 'cept 600MB maxmem and just ran the run so it was very slow :( but hey that's all we could managed with so little LN2

second bunch was with 1M runs and we were trying a few runs to get that illusive sub 9s run but fell short and on the last squirt of LN2 grabbed whatever shot we could

One thing i think you'll appreciate is T_M's ultra card doing 945/1200 with 1.55v on core and -58C DICE load on '06 runs

i haven't seen these go that hard on dice before and we were very lucky to have this pot called F1 :D on the quad which allowed us to bench it on DICE at 4860MHz (QX6850) with full cores :shocked: :D for some 20K single card runs

with LN2 this would be a 1K+on core and 5GHz+ 3D quad run easy :(

i am EXTREMELY happy with my Dragon Evo pot that we used for SuperPi runs on LN2 :up: (how's that for a second ln2 run :D)

Yeah I would have loved to see Eva2000 as he's such an awesome overclocker. Anyways good to see the rest of you in these pics, although as I said it's a shame I couldn't be there.

You wouldn't all be interested in perhaps lets say taking me on as your new junior overclocking apprentice would you? :D

i think what was even more impressive is seeing that 3D setup really kick arse

T_M's Ultra was doing 945MHz core and 1200MHz memory with 1.55v on core ON DICE stable '06 runs :eek: :D

and Kingpin F1 pot was able to cool the QX6850 up to 4860Mhz quad stable for '06 on DICE :shocked: :D

you don't see 20K single card runs on dice every day with that combo ;)

Yep all went incredibly well. The F1 pot worked phenominally, on dice no less :eek:, as did Kayl's GPU pot.

T_M and Pro really pulled out all stops with a single card 20k 3DMark06 on dice :up: :)

actually here is the post from another forum as there is some interesting info.....gotta say we really beat the :banana::banana::banana::banana: out of gigabyte boards at the event and they really did well....actually Kayl was hammering an Asus P5E3 DLX which did well :up: shame about no vcore mods on that one but Gigabyte with one day's notice got their engineers to mod the boards to completely remove OVP and then flown in down to Sydney with some super express freight :D:D heheh :up: :up: :up: :up: these guys are giving us the most amazing support and i know that the fellas really appreciate that :up: ...i certainly do :)

The hardware used throughout the day did very well to hold up for such lengths of time on huge volts, high overclocks and freezing temperatures. Of particular note in this respect was the performance and stability of the GIGABYTE X38T-DQ6. After having average P965 boards and seeing an improvement in P35, the new X38 boards are starting to leap ahead. It also helps that GIGABYTE is actively communicating with the best overclockers throughout Australasia, Europe and north America.

When the X38-DQ6 and X38T-DQ6 first launched they were fairly average (like most X38 boards) but after a huge amount of BIOS updating and feedback from sub-zero 'clockers, the boards BIOS now features many features to assure we can all stretch it that much more - very impressed.

Here you can see that even whilst running sub 100 degrees Celsius in a humid air space, the board got some ice and even water but kept performing like a champ.

Here are perhaps the sexiest modules in the country, proudly owned by pro, they sit comfortably in the X38T-DQ6 where they did DDR3-1652 6-5-5-20 :smash:

Now, it ain't all about the GIGABYTE, as ASUS jumped in also with the P5E3 Deluxe and oh my god - go Kayl you good thing. He was smashing out some crazy speeds and benching just shy of 4.8GHz on a QX6700 with an 8800GTS 320MB running under dry ice with 800MHz core with no volt mods! But more on that when we get the screenies together :p

Yeah .Logic, GIGABYTE have been very responsive.

I get a lot of exposure to hardware manufacturers and on multiple levels. From the pr managers, to the product managers, hardware engineers and through to events coordinators. What impresses me with GIGABYTE is not only their excitement and willingness to be involved in overclocking in general but the fact they're prepared to admit when they quite simply screw up and miss the point completely in regards to what the enthusiast wants, needs and damn well demands.

We've been communicating with GIGABYTE over the past couple of months now and we're happy to be seeing an increase in the all round quality of the boards. Stability, overclocking capability and quality of the components have been steadily going up.

After having the team and particularly the likes of dinos22 and T_M turn around and tell them the X38-DQ6 was :banana::banana::banana::banana: and well behind the eight-ball, instead of shutting their doors and being arrogant to the truth, they asked how they could be improved and made moves to implement these changes.

With all that said though, I've been loving playing with the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe (Kayl's new fav I'm sure :p) and Blitz Formula (too bad the Maximus Formula is a dog) but fav board at the moment is the OVP modded X38T-DQ6 with some tasty Micron DDR3

we had a hell of alot of fun on the weekend, benching at the atomic live event on the saturday and moving to Josh (molokos) house on the sunday for an extended bench session,

yeah that 3d setup was a hell of alot of fun, would be a definate 21K setup on ln2, kayl also had a 8800GTS and quad cascade setup going nuts next to us and was entertaining the crowd with his famous dry ice in the mouth trick,

thanks for all the support, hopefully alot more events and great results for us the future =)

damn vince those f1s handle the load well, i wasnt expecting 06 benching at nearly 4.9ghz on dice...

I missed my flight home damit, but apart from that the weekend was great.

It was good to see so many ppl interested in our benching, best event so far.
By the end of the day we got to 77k 3dmark01 the cascade system with a 8800GTS no vmods.
And 15k in 3dmark06. The Cascade ran for 9hrs straight on the QX6700 and dice tube on the 8800GTS ;)

The 77k in 2k1 singlecard 8800GTS on a 4.8GHz Kent and GPU/VRAM clocks so high the result is very very weak even if no LOD was used at all. Can you provide the screenshot with the results table so we can examine the FPS of partial tests.

did moonman run any single card ultra runs you can compare.....as per that 20K score >>> NOW That's wasn't fully tweaked either but it's a killer run ;)

we'll do our best to keep up with some of the teams here who are exceptionally strong. We are still trying to "make friends" with the right people regarding LN2 supply and pricing....this is our biggest hurdle and it seems that a couple of things have happened since we announced the team which look good already :)

tiborrr its only the 320Mb card, the above score might have been a 640mb card. THe score i entered was number 6 on hwbot, so no bad for no vmods. Vmods and some more tweaks and it would have done alot better.

Is your GPU A2 or A3 batch? With cooling abilities you guys have there you should mod that video card, tune the LOD appropriatelly and try to hit 85k+. I just wish i had variety of cooling you guys have there... :/

Had so much fun at the event, and like most of us i've had little chance to jump online let alone post any results. Spending this week back in Adelaide with the family so not much time for computers.

Following the Atomic Live event on Saturday, the team made our way in a van up to Moloko's garage for a Sunday of beers and Yorkfield fun and games :hehe:

After much buggering around with the buggy chip and various configurations of cooling, for 3DMark06 testing we settled on DICE for both CPU and GPU.
We didnt tweak very much at all, as we were running out of time and people were getting restless.

a few might want to see this,

we accidently pushed this cap off the board trying to remove the ultra, thinking it was pci-e retention mechanism,

we needed the board then and there, so we quickly attached the cap with what we had handy, seemed to work well ;)

Was going to attempt at catching Hipro's 21K score last night, but suffered another motherboard failure on the mosfets yet again :(

Totally stock board aside from stupid mosfet cooler (the small one with pins) removed and Crazycool also removed.
vCore read was soldered onto the rear side at the choke leg.
Failure occured while idling/posting, so load wasnt the issue.
