Midway and Epic Games announce that the beta demo for Unreal Tournament 3, the highly anticipated first-person-shooter, will be available for download today via http://www.fileplanet.com at 3 PM ET. The beta demo consists of three different action-packed Deathmatch and Vehicle Capture the Flag maps: HeatRay, ShangriLa and Suspense. All maps in the demo can be played locally against bots, or online against human opponents. Unreal Tournament 3 is currently slated to ship in November for PC. Get ready to get your frag on!

HeatRay (Deathmatch):
This battle takes place in a night-time urban setting. Players battle over who gets to use a Dark Walker super weapon after it is spawned by a passing drop-ship. If you manage to get it, be sure to rack up the kills quickly since everyone will be gunning for you. The Dark Walker is like a giant piñata -- when it dies it drops a U-Damage and a Berzerk power-up. If you want to stay hidden from the Dark Walker keep an eye out for the Invisibility power-up.

ShangriLa (Deathmatch):
A stark contrast to HeatRay's moody setting, ShangriLa is a sunny, tranquil map set high in the Izanagi Mountains. This map is designed in the traditional style of big Team Deathmatch maps, so it should please the most hardcore UT Deathmatch players. Fight over the U-damage in the central courtyard, or try to control the Shield-belt alley. You can find jumpboots in a vulnerable spot at the end of a dock, but the risk is worth the reward as they will go a long way toward helping you control the map.

Suspense (Vehicle Capture the Flag):
Set on a massive suspension bridge deep in Axon territory, this map is a playground of gameplay possibilities. It's a favorite in Epic office playtests because you can find almost all the Axon vehicles, as well as the Redeemer super-weapon. Whether you are sniping from the bridge towers, camping with the tank, towing hover-boarding flag-runners from your Raptor, controlling the redeemer from underneath the bridge, bombarding from afar with Hellfire SPMA artillery, or doing fast attacks with Manta's and Scorpions, everyone will find something they love doing in Suspense.

Unreal Tournament 3 marks the return of the world's premiere first-person shooter to the PC, and its debut on the PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system. So it seems it's a version that doesn't have to be activated with a key and probably therefore it was forced to be taken down from the site that person managed to grab it from. :D

Dling at ~120KB/s my max speed with 1Mbit dl now.

EDIT: Seems like TPB servers are even getting overloaded due to this demo lol, I keep getting "User tracker already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections" when browsing the site now. :D

Played it for 10minutes,it is good optimised,I am getting around 45FPS on average on my E2160@3.2Ghz 2GB A-data Vitessa and a X1950PRO @ 600-1600.
I can't say much about the gameplay,it's smth like Gears of War scale but with 100mph speed I think that it's a bit clunky but i will get used to it in time,I still like Quake3/4 Fear Combat hell even Crysis better than this :)

Well if you ask me that's BS. The only funny thing I thought with current Crysis beta was to mess with the values in the config files and especially physics file. That resulted in killed birds jumping around on the watersurface, that was pretty funny to watch. :D Has recorded it with FRAPS but won't post due to NDA. I've never even had interest in doing the tasks in it, I've only been exploring and trying different configs basicly.

I hope you guys are wrong. Crysis is the worst MP game I've ever played. 50% DL'd from FP... Where do I get a key?

1680x1050 totally maxed never dips below the locked 62fps.

This just knocked the COD4 demo down badly, not sure why epic wouldn't release the demo same day.

I'm not having any luck finding/connecting to a server that pings well :( The graphics are nothing short of jaw dropping though. ~60 fps on my 8800GTS 1680*1050 maxed out on vista.

it´s different type of games , i prefer the type of game´s like COD so in my opinion COD4 won the Demos "battle" [ Crysis (just a Beta) , UT3, SP & COD4 ]!!

COD4 was pretty nice, I won't lie. I, however, am preferring the fast pace & MP of UT3. When you're dealing with multiple top notch titles, everything will come down to opinion as to what's "the best". ;)

Performance wise though, no one can deny UT3 wins there. COD4 runs great, but UT3 never leaves it's 62 frame cap on my rig... Considering I'm still rockin my X2 3800+, that's pretty impressive to me.

Can you remove the FPS cap? I'm too used to use up to 100 FPS in UT2k4, I mean it's actually limited at 85 FPS until you write a simple "netspeed 15000" in the console and the FPS goes up to 100 FPS also in MP. I just hope I won't have the same feeling in this game as I immediatly notice if it runs at the 85 FPS cap or 100 FPS in UT2k4. Of course I don't expect to get that high fps on this rig anyways unless I turn down quality settings a bit but I'm gonna upgrade gfx card soon so then it will start matter for real.

Finally torrent finished, it sure sux being used to 8Mbit dl for 3 years+ and then going to 1Mbit dl. :/

Extremely pleased to hear that UT3 is well optimized and running real good on a GTX :), finally my heavy spendings on a new rig fully paid up. 70% done.

BTW: The video customization options in the demo are basic.
I mostly play Fear Combat and Quake 4 and none of them are diffrent from the basic style of the FPS genre,I like Crysis MP because it offers smth new to the genre and that is the suit,sniping with the invisibility etc.. is very fun + there are a lot of weapons and vehicles you can buy besides from that it is pretty booring.

Anyone having problem starting the game? I get a UT3 banner that came up but nothing else after ...

Must only effect XP x64... I just reformatted with Vista x64 last night and I'm running the game flawlessly.

I can't believe this runs so good on my system. x2 at 2.6 with a x1950xt. It runs really good. Game is fun as hell++

Yes.. It won't run. Something about running modified executable code. Must only be on Xp64.

Bahh and i have 6200 TC (TM) till half of November, so i cant play anything atm... It's cruel.

Not for me... with 1152x864 res and all settings on "1" framerate stays between 35-45 on a 24 man multiplayer map (measured with Fraps). My 7900GT is overclocked to 650/820, and my X2 3600+ is at 3GHz.

Yea I immediatly noticed it looked like I would be using some 15 year old CRT with faded out colors or something hehe.

As far as performance goes, I'm very happy, min FPS 31~32 or so and avg fps is ~50 FPS @ 1280x960 with everything set to high with this 7900GTO. So will be nice playing with a 8800GT or 2950 Pro/XT later on with maxed AA and AF. :)

Being both a UT1 and UT2k4 player I immediatly see it's true what they've been saying, UT3 is like a balance between the original UT and UT2k4 so ppl liking either of those games will surely like this one too. It really has the UT feeling in it still, that's for sure.

About weapons, I feel Link Gun primary fire is a lot more powerful now than it was in UT2k4, where you got mostly angry when the opponents kept avoiding the quite easily dodgable slow cell ammo. Now that weapons looks more like UT1 and that's fine for me but perhaps a bit too fast ammo rate, difficult to tell that yet after initial testing. Enforcers are a lot more powerful now and easier to hit the enemies and I felt they were actually very usable. Altho I do miss the grenade secondary fire a bit as I used to get many kills with this in UT2k4 especially in those crowded DM1-on-1 10+ player sessions. Shock rifle I quickly started liking with it's combo usage, primary fire had quite a lot delay between the shots but I see it why. In 2k4 and UT1 minigun with the slower but more accurate fire mode was very usable for long range battling. Now the minigun's fire spreads out a bit more and primary fire is a no go at long range and the more accurate rate isn't as effective as it was in UT2k4/UT1 but it sure works ok but this is where shock rifle and the rather slow paced primary fire firing rate would make shock rifle too good if it had faster fire rating and sniper rifle still as usual is a good weapon in long range, it's basicly shock rifle, minigun 2ndare fire mode and sniper rifle which works for long range. I'm happy about Flak Cannon, 2ndary fire mode needs a bit more skills now to get a good hit while primary fire has become a little more useful. Bio rifle feels very balanced and still works very nicely as a tactical weapon. Haven't got anything special to say about Rocket Launcher, it's not too good and not too bad, works in most places, in UT2k4 it was quite bad for close battles but now it works quite a bit better for that too. All in all first hands impression about the weapons felt very good. :up:

An update on the Xp64 issues. Its seems those who downloaded the torrent or keyless versions of the game are the ones having issues. If you get it to install on Xp64 and come up with the unsigned error, try downloading it from FP instead. Im waiting in queue right now to see if it works.

The unsigned error is the modified error. If you run the .exe file with the -log command it says that the .exe file is unsigned, thus giving you the modified error.

damn this sucker runs like a champ. solid62 fps. only dips to 58 on really heavy frag action, very optmized. Nothing really new here, but its fun. Can see lots of league play with this one.

for people on xp64 ive read you need to make sure u have the new C++ dedrist, and .net framework. should work ok then

Shangrila has really good flow, tunnels w/ windows on the outside w/ a focus on the center. There's a top level that works really well for getting away from the craziness, while still supplying some action.

The animations seem pretty random and ragdoll's through the roof. People EXPLODE in this game, they do not blow up. After receiving my first "Head Shot!!" announcement I was greeted w/ a popped head and then he raised his hands up all shaky!

It doesn't look like I'll even be needing AA as the action's just too quick. Speaking of, it feels like UT99...that's it I'm done...must play.

I ran windows update and changed drivers now my fps sucks :( Went back to old drivers and my fps still sucks. 15-25 MAX when I had 62 constant before... I really wanted to play again to.

so wtf... i dled straight from fileplanet. why do i still get the error then?

Alright, seems that something else is afoot. If you did download it from FP and gave it a key and it still won't work along with myself having both .net and C redists installed and its still not working, it has to be something on Epic's end.

But then why the hell are some people saying that it does work in Xp64? Maybe its not Epic's fault after all..

yea i treid it with 2 differnt servers. one west coast and one east.. and it also never asked me for a key on either one of those installations.. :confused: :confused: :confused:

Apparrently epic left the debug version running, thats why I could run it on my main pc with debug kernel installed.

I did a clean x64 install and got the same error that everyone else did.
the fix is to go to the ms site at:

Install it.
run windbg you just installed.
open file, open executeable

Anything before the 163.71 is said to have issues with this title.

I'm running it on Vista x64 with the Vista supplied 97.46 forceware and it runs just fine. 2 1/2 hours of mayhem and no lockups. I'm running it on a 16 crt for the time being. I should have a 22" LCD by November, Just in time for all the new games :)

UT3 better be worth it.
I just uninstalled SP3 due to it.

It's pretty good.
Fast paced.
I did take a chance to look at the surroundings, very detailed.
Also, my dead carcass looked nice.

7/10, simply because game play would probably takes me a good year to be good at, and I would need alot of coffee and speed.
Good game none the less.

I'm gonna stick to Crysis.

I need an ss of the advanced graphics options menu page.

well fixed the issue, i was playing with stuff in the uengine confiq, i set it to stock and no crash for over an hour.

and yes im using 163.71. some of best vista drivers in a while

No idea man, I am running it at 1280x1024 details at highest and v-sync on with itunes playing, bit torrent running four fire foxes open and I am still getting above 45fps during big fights 60ish run just running around.

Your missing a DX10 dll mate....either grab yourself the latest redistributable from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...ibutable.shtml or use a DX SETUP which came with a recent game you've bought.

If you have genuine windows then go here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

do u want more than 62fps? oh yeah baby, tahts an easy fix just as it looks like; my sys is 2 bad so i cant test it but from the looks of it its like taht:

go into your
X:\Unreal Tournamt 3\Engine\Config
folder and open the
BaseEngine.ini

and edit these lines:

[Engine.GameEngine]
bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE
MinSmoothedFrameRate=22
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=62 <-- this seems to be the max fps; change it to whatever you want, i would say test 200 just for fun, so instead of the 62 write a 200 in there.

Yep it worked, thanks (remember to modify profile cfg files in my documents folder niot the ones in the game folder), this isn't too important right now (can only get up to 100 FPS if standing against a wall with high detail settings) but when I will get my 8800GT or 2950 Pro/XT it sure will be useful. Runs so much smoother at 100 FPS and since I'm used to 100Hz/constant 100 FPS gaming from UT2k4 it just doesn't feel nearly that smooth at even 62 FPS.

BTW, I think min fps means the same thing as before - it will change detail level on the fly to keep your min FPS

I feels very smooth now when I had turned my face against the ground and walked around when FPS is around 100. Can't wait until the nice midrange cards arrives so I can get 100 FPS also when not staring at the ground or the game doesn't look like piss on a bit lower quality settings. :p:

But for now I prefer 100 FPS and low quality, the feeling is more important than graphics quality to me. :) Became a completely new game now almost, feels smoother than UT2k4 somehow, perhaps it's the fast paced action which makes it look like that.

Job well done Epic. They have managed to capture that UT nostalgia from 99 and 03/04 but add a ton of new artwork and as usual, the level design is top notch. I love that oriental level, its just beautiful. Too bad you don't have much time to stop and enjoy the scenery or you're dead ;)

I love the fact that they brought back the UT Menu theme. What we really need though is the return of Assault...like the Frigate and castle from the original UT.

Can you create an online profile? Mine always says that password doesn't match although I never created one

i set mine to 72, no need for 200...8800 goes all over the place past 130fps in most games..up and down...cant keep a steady frame rate. 62-72 is all you need, feels more smooth with this title.

turn off extra highbloom though and depth of field.

Well I for sure get the smoothest gameplay with 100Hz / 100 FPS. :p: Don't agree about all you need is 72 fps. It's certainly very enjoyable at 72 FPS too but it gets A LOT more enjoyable at 100 FPS. :)
