Shall I break NOW the 2k6 WR with the Yorkfield or shall I wait?

As tittle says.....:D

Shall I break it now with a QX6850 CPU and 2 x POWERFULL XFX 8800 Ultras in SLI with the Striker Extreme mobo OR shall I wait till 20-21 of October that we, here in Hellas, are having an Overclocking Event with k|ngp|n and Shamino guest stars and break it ALL THREE of us together?.....That's a big delema...:D :p:

Shall I?.....Shall I not?.....Whatever will be, it will be with a QX6850 retail chip....;)

He took number # 2 3D 05 spot, with I would say not to much trouble, both
2900XT's on air & cpu on ln2 - 35K with DDR3....:)

any numbers put out with ES parts(cherry picked) should not count...`cause makes the effort of the others benchers that do not have access to this parts look like sh`t...and I imagine that you guys like it fair and square...

but one thing is for sure...you 3 are going to show the real potential of intel next proc.

Honestly, people in those kinds of leagues have every right to celebrate a little if you ask me ;). I'm not one of them, LOL, but I certainly can respect and understand how they are able to do the things they do.

Anyway, I'd say break it now, then top it by 1% in a few weeks :D... twice the fun ;)!

It really is battle of the wallets recently. It used to be about skill and how far you could push the hardware that was common and that made it more impressive. Now all you have to do is go run up your credit card bill and post in a forum asking people WITH skill to guide you through it. Its a shame.:shakes:

At the event break the damn thing you never published again by many points! Try to get a large enough lead, will ya. :D

Think "CPU".... GPU acts like it.....So each core on each VGA needs less or higher VGPU....Problem WAS that the user couldn't know how much to feed it due to OVP protection.....Now he will know exactly how much it needs....;)

Nope.....ATI's can handle way higher PCI-E frequency than NVIDIA's.....I have fed an 2900XT up to 170MHz PCI-E before it freezes....and benched it at 165MHz PCI-E.....;)

How much does overclocking the PCI-E slots help with 3D06 scores? And if it does, how far do you guys usually push them? I usually OC them about 10MHz.

I have seen 160MHz on PCI-E and it eaily completed 06 run!! I think it helps a lot but its more to do wid stability.. i guess. May be other knowing more will help clear it.

PCIe overclocking still matters with X38. With Radeon cards you can run it stable at at least 150 MHz on a good board and you will see a significant boost from it.

PCIe overclocking still matters with X38. With Radeon cards you can run it stable at at least 150 MHz on a good board and you will see a significant boost from it.

how did it scale in 3D???
have you compared results from 100 - 150 and what was the point difference

hicookie tested P5E3 from memory and there was absolutely NO points difference between 100 and 150MHz whereas on P35 based mobo there was 800 point different but i am not 100% sure what 3DMARK bench it was now and haven't got hicookie's thread handy here

Dont know if Hi-cookie was aiming for better OC on cards or not.. just bunmping da PCIe clock wid same speed on Card(s) wont make your score go up. But I guess wid PCIe bumped one can see cards wid 920+ on 2900XTs in CF. Tho that surely makes SATA ports unusable.. one has to switch to old PCI RAID/IDE card.

As I mentioned above also.. I am no expert and may be Hipro or others who have tested X38 with CF can clear this. :)

ASUS P5E3 WS Pro (x38) and setfsb: When setfsb starts, shows 150MHz PCI-E whether in bios IS set at 120MHz PCI-E.....(A different PLL chip by a letter only on this mobo).
When I put it at 170MHz PCI-E, it will propably be ~ 140MHz actual (I will measure it when I'll put this mobo on again)....I didn't see any gain out of it to be honnest....
I have seen a small gain on the ASUS Blitz Exteme from 120PCI-E to 165PCI-E....2k5 ~ 150 marks more or so.....So I think that it's NOT like the good old days with the AGP..... :D
Another thing I have noticed is that the NVIDIAs on the Blitz, can handle up to 145MHz PCI-E, were the ATIs can handle 165MHz PCI-E.....

Overclockability of the CF?......Let's say that IF I leave the bios setting at 120MHz PCI-E, I can run the bench with the VGAs at their "edge" on air BUT when I put it via setfsb at 135 - 140 -145 - 150 - 155 - 160 - 165, some times VGAs are rebooting the system....No more MHz out of them by raising the PCI-E....
