not a serious run, quick test on air and DI(only 1kg left).
the whole running = 1hour only :D
just to show numbers and let u know that x38 can also reach 600fsb+

they hit 600fsb if iam not mistaken on a p35 based board. x38 will clock higher, but i doubt its going to be the miracle worker like so many hope for.

great results though, im sure 650fsb is on the horizon

hiya victor what the max cpu frequency the e6850 run on air cooling on this motherboard , looks a good board this i think it will be the most expensive of the x38 asus lineup, does it have a max vcore of 1.7 , sorry for so many questions , do you like ddr3 memory now you've had cjhance to play around with it

victor, love your tenacious overclocking!...you have some amazing results!....BUT...what about a Quad core like the Q6600...i really would like to see that processor used...i've seen to many with the E6850 getting well above 520+ FSB on the P35...a lot of posters here are transitioning to the quad core...can you show us!?

my feelings about x38:
1. chipset more hotter than p35, which means need better cooling on ur NB.
2. need more vNB to achieve 600fsb+ than P35, might be >1.85v
3. ddr3 overclking ability seems a little bit worse than my Asus Blitz Extreme, maybe it's bios issue 'coz it's not finished yet.
4. better inductor/mos than Blitz/Premium, that's a good sign.
5. overclking failure to restart need to be improved. now I need to shutdown my psu and wait until the 5v standby is gone to fire up the system ag.
6. much more ddr3 tweak option. will check if there's any performance gain today.

and I'll test with a 500fsb+ Quadcore and 2900xt Crossfire today to see if any improvments.

the same E6850 on my blitz = 562fsb max on air and 557fsb benchable.
might be the reason of only 2.0v vPLL on blitz.

just dont know why there's only 1slot space between the 2*16X PCIE on both dlx and max :(

or that's the plan Asus want us to buy both formula and maximus :(

Deam it is nice, but Victor can you compare super pi with that mb and blitz Extreme, and is mem bandwidth better than P35 blitz if so this will be my next LN2 mb. :)

530fsb stable ON AIR, Max at 538fsb ON AIR.
it's a QUADCORE.
ambient=25c, ultra120 air cooling.

same cpu, same cooling.
515fsb stable on my blitz, 520fsb max.

so...finally we found a HOT SPOT to buy a new mobo :D

if there is almost zero droop for the vcore then 1.7 should be sufficient for most users.

• IBM 14 GB IDE HDD
• Enermax 400 Watt NT <- maybe the problem?
• Windows XP SP2

9*400; MEM 1:2 runs without a problem prime stable.
But 430 or more the board won´t boot. Multi 6 and 7 tested.

i hope anyone can help me...

is the Enermax the same PSU that you used on your P35 board?

i have used an 8 year old Antec 400W PSU to run the QuadGT with my Quad core "B3"...it worked an allowed me to overclock...BUT...not all 400W PSU's are equal in performance!;)

I'm not 100% sure about this upgrade. It's a nice incremental step, but X48 will probably prove a more solid upgrade. Not sure if this one is worth the platform, switch to DDR3 yet considering that cost. Still, X48 is still several? months off, and impatience is my worst enemy. now that i have a little extra money to spend;)...i will probably buy the X38 with DDR3 and X48.:D...AND, AND...an QX9650!:up:...Intel is going to love me...hehehe:clap: ;)

Test at your own risk, not sure if this bios is posted yet.

I used "express gate" and played around on the web in the linux environment

I then booted with ALT-F2 menu, it saw the USB drive and file. Update went perfect.

I have not tested the skype yet but that is also a boot menu option.

This bios was to fix 4x memory slots filled and running high speeds.

This is a sweet board and a nice replacement for my P5K3-Deluxe.

Ill post some 3D on Yorkfield.

Fugger, how are the Penryn it terms of power-eating?
do they require less vcore at higher speeds?

i have pre-ordered a P5E3 Deluxe, but its limited to 1.70, and when i bench my 6850 it needs more for high mhz.. but perhaps Penryn requires less vcore and therefore they might have thought of this when they build the Bios for this?

And if i get this board, im stuck and cant push my cpu...even if its a super board... i need upto 1.80ish

I believe Victor hit 672 mhz on hte DFI P35 board. That makes this seem kind of anti-climactic. I would assume this is the same CPU correct?

Did you not like the P5K3? I got it a short while ago and with BIOS 604, it seems to run beautifully...Of course X38 will beat it...but I think the P5K3 is an excellent board and vdroop for me is .01 idle and load....I think I will wait for X48 before considering a new DDR3 board.
